Gary Alan Smith - November 05, 1947 - April 20, 2022

Departed: 04/20/2022 (Lockhart)
Obituary Preview: Gary Smith Obituary
Gary was born on November 5, 1947 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Gloria Mills Smith of Tuscaloosa and Harry Laverne Smith of Santa Barbara California. He was preceeded in death by his parents, his Brother Kenneth Foster Smith, his Sister Cynthia Smith Hanson, Mother and Father-in-Law Gail and Lee Lehman, Brothers in Law Tory Lehman and Rodney Lehman, and Uncle Jerry Voigt.
He is survived by his Wife Roxane, Daughters Crystal Smith, Summer Oliver and husband James Oliver, Brianna Smith, Son Foster Smith and Wife Jennifer Smith, Grandsons Grant and Logan Oliver, Brothers Bruce Smith (Diane Smith), Jeff Smith (Mary Smith), Sister-in-Law Paula Smith, Brother-in-Law Roger Hanson, Nieces and Nephews Chris Werner, Kyle Werner, Misty Ward, Chad Smith, Eric Smith, Kara Hanson, Luke Hanson, Aly Damani and Vance Smith. Special Cousins Gretchen, Stephanie, and the late Diane Taylor.
Gary was born in Alabama and raised with his cousins, uncles, aunts, and family friends. His Grandfather was a Baptist minister and Grandmother was a home maker. His early years were spent with his little Brother Bruce and his Cousin Gretchen playing around his grandparents’ home and church. It was a wonderful way to spend his early years.
The family moved to Texas City, Texas after his dad came home from the war. Gary grew up in much simpler and happier times with playmates that became lifelong friends. His dad was an industrial arts teacher and his mom was a substitute teacher.  Summers were spent in Galveston at the beach and school time was all about athletics. Gary was a star basketball and football player. His football career was cut short when he had a knee injury his senior year. He opted for a coaching profession, attended Sam Houston State for one year and hen finished at University of Houston.  Ironically after only teaching for a few months he decided that he had made a big mistake and joined the Houston Police Department. He loved being a police man, working all shifts on patrol, but nights were his favorite. He went on to become a crime scene investigator for 6 years and then to work undercover Vice with his favorite partner Charlie.
He met Roxie at the Shamrock Hilton in 1977 while he was working undercover. They fell in love fast and were married with in a year. Gary said it was love at first sight but Roxie had to be convinced.
Two baby girls, Crystal and Summer were born by the Spring of 1980 and the family decided to escape the city and bought a small ranch in Red Rock, Texas. Two more children Brianna and Foster rounded up their busy family of six. Gary, Roxie, Crystal, Summer, Brianna, and Foster enjoyed country life full of Little League Baseball, Karate lessons, Dog shows, 4-H projects and stock shows, vacations, and school life.
Gary established an insurance agency and Roxie owned a florist.  Lockhart proved to be a town of wonderful friends and a safe place for the kids to grow up. Gary’s agency flourished and he had many clients who became close friends. He always felt fortunate to be able to work side by side with his daughter Brianna.
As the kids grew Gary was a hands-on Dad. He always cooked a big southern breakfast including eggs, sausage, biscuits and grits. He told his friends that his greatest accomplishments were getting all four kids potty trained and graduated from college. Welcoming Jennifer and Jim to our family made him so happy, - he loved them as his own. The next milestone for him was his twin Grandsons Grant and Logan being born. He said changing diapers was like riding a bike, it just came right back to you. He always created fun and dangers games to play with them.
He kept busy on weekends driving his tractor, gardening, carpentry, helping with the animals, and homing his skills as a plumber fixing pipes on the ranch.  Life has been good and he felt blessed and complete with a great family.
Special thanks to friends Beirne Eeds and Bob Bowles, Vance Rogers and his church family, Sisters in Beta Sigma Phi, the Wilkerson’s, Lehman family, his brothers, the Voigt families, and his longtime friends and loyal insureds.

Haide Karla Mulkey - February 25, 1943 - April 15, 2022

Departed: 04/15/2022 (Lockhart)
Obituary Preview: It is with deep sadness we mourn the passing of our Mom Haide Karla Mulkey on April 15th, 2022 in her home in Lockhart, TX. She was born February 25th, 1943 to Karl and Alma Kuhne.
She leaves us to cherish our memories of her. Mom enjoyed the simple pleasures of life like the birds singing in springtime, children playing and wildflowers blooming. Music playing, the night sky and one of her favorites: taking the long way to get somewhere just to enjoy the back roads.
She was a generously caring person who touched the lives of all who knew her, always being there for those in need. She gave cheerfully to her community, known for her generous spirit and her passion for her ministry as a Jehovah’s Witness.
Known as Nana to her grandchildren, she would light up when she just heard their voices and spent as much time as possible bringing them joy and laughter. We as her children never doubted her love for us and appreciate the moments she gave us to define us and mold us into who we are today. She taught by example that everyone deserved to live a life not of things, but of love and kindness to all.
She will forever be in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.
Now we must navigate through our lives without her presence and choose joy in all we do as a testament to her legacy of love.
She is preceded in passing by her parents and her grandchildren, Justin Montague and Karla Montague.
She is survived by her children Andrea Pilgrim-Brown and spouse Robert, Jerry Mulkey and spouse Diane, Darline Mulkey, Laura Ryland,  Suzanne Caton and spouse Jason. Her grandchildren David Mulkey and spouse Tiffany, Jonathan Pilgrim and spouse Debra, Jeremy Mulkey, Jessica Pilgrim, Jade Ryland, Hunter Ryland, Arya Reed, Emily Caton and Sarah Jo Meyers.
Her great grandchildren Karla, Alexis, David Jr, Caleb & Charity.
Her great-great grandchildren Kayston, Raiyah, & Tyler.
Her sister Elke Yordy and spouse Stan, niece Barbara and nephew Erick. Mom did not want to be the focus of a funeral, so we have planned a Zoom/live memorial service in her honor for family and those closest to her. She also wished to be cremated, and her “ashes to be spread to help other things grow.”

Manuela Recio Cisneros - January 22, 1931 - April 05, 2022

Departed: 04/05/2022 (Lockhart)
Obituary Preview: Manuela Recio Cisneros
Manuela “Meme” Recio Cisneros reunited with the love of her life in God's Eternal Kingdom the evening of April 5, 2022. She was 91 years old.
Meme was born on Jan. 22, 1931, outside Lockhart to Bonifacio and Catarina Recio. The youngest of four children, she was the only daughter, and doted on by her three older brothers.
She married her soulmate, Monico Luis Cisneros in 1952, and together they embarked on a life of faith, love and adventure. In her quiet, steadfast way, she supported her husband's ambitions through his military career and later, a meteoric rise in local politics. She entertained Heads of State, decorated generals and dignitaries from all over the world, and she did so with grace, class and skill. Few that met her would have guessed that her greatest regret was her lack of formal education. Few would have imagined she wasn't brought up in the best finishing schools her time had to offer.
During her life, she was committed to learning – learning everything. In the 1950's, she learned to sew from a lifelong friend, and was often known to make her own clothes for many events and engagements as her husband rose in both military rank and in public esteem. Her children enjoyed cutting-edge fashion choices, because of her talent. A native Spanish-speaker, she enrolled in classes to learn English when her family was stationed in California, to give her children the best chance they could have at success. She instilled that love of learning in her six children, as well as her grandchildren, and continued to be a teacher to her great-grandchildren, her nieces and nephews and their children, and to the community whose collective hearts she had claimed as Lockhart's first Hispanic First Lady.
“Tia Nellie” believed she had few accomplishments of her own. Her rise, she believed, was because her husband rose. He would have told a different story. He said, often, that he was the man he was only because she supported, loved, scolded and centered him. In fact, while he was on a deployment in Korea, she took the initiative to buy a home for their growing family, pay every payment except the last, leaving that payment for him to make, as it was HIS home. Theirs was a love story for the ages.
Her sudden, unexpected passing leaves to treasure her memory and legacy her six children: Louis A. Cisneros, Anna Marie Cisneros Schwertfeger, Elizabeth Recio Cisneros, Dolores Kay Cisneros O’Connor, Carl M. Cisneros and Lisa Anselma Cisneros Romero, and their spouses, sons- and daughters-in-law that she treasured; her grandchildren: Christian Lee Cisneros, Joseph Luis Edward Cisneros, Matthew Alan Cisneros, Alison Nicole Schwertfeger, Lindsay Michelle Melton, Travis William Schwertfeger, Victor Jonathan Yanez, David Aaron Yanez, Lauren Davida Yanez, Patrick Ryan O'Connor, Kaitlin Marie O'Connor, Pierce Alan O'Connor, Antonio Luis Cisneros, Laura Patricia Espinoza, , Erica Michelle Cisneros, Monica Manuela Runge Beaugez and Nicholas Michael Barnes, and each of their spouses who she loved dearly; her great-grandchildren: Declan Hugh O'Connor, Isaac Xaiver Yanez, Tyler Nicholas Runge, Jayden Wade Yanez, David Victor Yanez, Braden Victor Runge, Julius Avery Yanez, Aaliyah Justine Yanez, Alexandra Evelyn Yanez, Hollisten Kade Cisneros, Mattison Rene Cisneros, Lillian Manuela Cisneros, Michael Gonzales, Nathaniel Gonzales, Mila June Garcia, Maylin Rain Garcia,  Julian Alejandro Rodriguez, and Cooper Allan Melton, Maxleigh Tyler Beaugez, Caison Noel Beaugez, Monico Lincoln Cisneros, Yavanna Zelda Espinoza, Zachary Jason Barnes and Colin Michael Barnes and Aiden Luis Cisneros and Jason Avery Reed; dozens of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews; and a host of loving friends.
She meets in Paradise her parents, brothers, and her husband of 59 years.
The family extends their thanks to Lockhart EMS, Lockhart Fire Department, Lockhart Police Department and the staff at Seton Medical Center – Hays, for their heroic efforts.
The family will receive callers at Eeds Funeral Home, 408 S. Main, Lockhart, Texas, 78644, on  Sunday, April 10, 2022, from 2 – 7 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s of the Visitation Catholic Church on Monday, April 11, 2022, at 2 p.m.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Jesse Riojas, Bonifacio Recio, Richard Recio, Francisco Recio, Ross Alexander and Eric Alexander.

Marvin Sandler - May 09, 1930 - March 17, 2022

Departed: 03/17/2022 (Lockhart)
Obituary Preview: Our Dod
Marvin Sandler was born in Buffalo, New York on May 9, 1930 to Benjamin and Rose Sandler during Mother’s Day weekend.  He was such a wonderful gift to everyone who knew him.  He grew up with his parents and older sister, Gerry, in Buffalo and completed the Automobile Mechanics course of study at Burgard Vocational High School on June 29, 1948.
Marvin was a proud Veteran.  On January 8, 1951, he entered active duty in the Military and as he would say, “Uncle Sam” brought him to San Marcos, Texas where he worked as a Helicopter Mechanic in the Air Force.  One day, while driving around and hanging out at Henslee’s in Lockhart, he met his beautiful wife, Dorothy Sandler.  Marvin and Dorothy married on May 29, 1953 in Corpus Christi, Texas.  They have always resided in Lockhart, Texas and had been married for almost 69 years.  There is not a single thing that he would not do for his wife, Dorothy.  She meant the world to him.
Marvin and Dorothy have three daughters, Marla, Lori, and Rhonda.  In 1968, after Dorothy went back to work, Marvin quickly learned how to fix ponytails in their hair and got all three girls to school in his blue station wagon.  It was always very evident how much he loved his wife and his family.
In the 1950’s, Marvin worked at the service station, Henslee’s.  He also had a front-end loader and hauled gravel, dirt, and trash for people.  Marvin started his own business with his shop and full-service gas station, Phillips – Sandler 66 Service, on South Main Street in Lockhart, Texas.  In 1976, he was offered a position at Glosserman Chevrolet where he retired after 36 years as their Service Consultant.  Everyone respected Marvin and had only great things to say about him. As a mechanic, Marvin often worked with his abundance of tools, building and repairing things, as well as working on his vehicles with his grandson, Chris.  There was absolutely nothing he could not fix.  Though he didn’t know how to cook much, he made the best egg omelets, potato pancakes, and SpaghettiOs’s with weenies.  He loved his sardines and all of Dorothy’s cooking!
Marvin and Dorothy always enjoyed square dancing and traveling the United States attending national square dance conventions as presidents of their square dancing clubs.  Besides square dancing for over 50 years, they also loved going to all the country music shows, western swing festivals, going out to eat, and spending time with family and friends.  Marvin and Dorothy made so many wonderful friends and memories while doing what they loved.
Marvin, our wonderful husband, dad, grandfather, and great grandfather is also known as Dod.  He was the most amazing man to ever touch our lives.  He was always there when you needed someone and taught us what love really means.  We are very blessed to call him our Dod.
Marvin passed away peacefully on the morning of March 17, 2022 at the age of 91 years old.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Rose Sandler, and his sister, Geraldine Blum.  Marvin is survived and loved by his wife, Dorothy Sandler; daughters, Marla (Wayne) Stewart of Canyon Lake, Lori Morse of Houston, and Rhonda Wilhelm of Lockhart; grandchildren, Christopher Wilhelm, Sara Wilhelm, Allison Ellis, and Ashley Nohavitza; and great grandchildren, Madeline, Elizabeth, Paul, Aaron, Catherine, Jana, Noah, Abby, and Julianne.
We greatly appreciate and want to thank all his wonderful caregivers, including the great medical staff and the DaVita Kidney Care who had been there for him throughout the years.  On August 6, 2014, DaVita Lockhart Dialysis opened their doors with Marvin being their first and only patient.  For seven years, he sat in the same dialysis chair that they called “Marvin’s Chair”.  We would also like to thank his wonderful home health aide, Josephine Anderson, for spending time and being there for him while keeping an extra set of eyes on him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 2:00 at Eeds Funeral Home in Lockhart, Texas.

Danny Michael Fox - March 17, 1949 - February 27, 2022

Departed: 02/27/2022 (Lockhart)
Obituary Preview: Danny Michael Fox (well known as “Pappy” by his friends)
Danny’s struggle with numerous health issues ended on Sunday afternoon, February 27, 2022 at 4:34 when his heart stopped beating while he slept. He was only 19 days from being 73 years old. His parents, Hubert C. and Pauline (Burgess) Fox preceded him in death, as did his youngest son, Steven Daniel Fox, and daughter-in-law, Vanessa, his brother, Rick Fox, and sister-in-law, Jenny, and his sister, Debbie Clark, and brother-in-law, Glen. Also passed are his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Mary Henderson, and two brothers in law, Jim Henderson and Bill Henderson, III.
Danny was born in Gainesboro, Tennessee on March 17, 1949 – but grew up  in Cookerville, where he graduated in 1967 from Algood High School. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he completed several hundred hours of extensive technical training in the repair and maintenance of the military’s single and multiple engine jet aircraft . His leadership, extensive knowledge of the aircraft maintenance field, his outstanding initiative and devotion to duty earned Danny the Air Force’s Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service, while serving in the Vietnam War in which he did two tours of duty. He was stationed at numerous air bases, both stateside and abroad throughout the years, but finally ended up at Bergstrom AFB, in Austin, Texas for the last eight years of his career. Here, he was assigned to “Flight Safety” with his focus directed at investigating and reporting aircraft accidents. In December, 1990 – Tech Sergeant (TSGT) Danny M. Fox retired from the United States Air Force, after more than 20 years of service. Let it be noted while in the Air Force, he had two sons, Phillip C. (July , 1975) Steven D. (October, 1976). Both boys brought him such pride and joy that he had never experienced. Also, while in the Air Force Danny had become proactive in motorcycle safety – taking on the responsibility of teaching a “Motorcycle Safety Course” on the base. Danny had basically decided to stay and make Austin his home by the time he retired because he already developed friendships with so many people with whom he shared common interests, such as Harley Davidson motorcycles, Budweiser beer, Beverley’s Bar, and the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution … to name a few. Also, his love of our Country, for he was quite a patriotic soul. A great number of these people he maintained relationships with through the decades that came to pass. With some he stayed especially close. He treasured these friends. They called him “Pappy.”
Soon after leaving the Air Force, “Pappy” enrolled in a commercial truck driving school and got his CDL. He hauled various freight from coast to coast for about 5-6 years. Then he went to work locally working for Cook Mail Services, Inc. He got involved with company politics   here, becoming the local Postal Labor Union Representative, but only for a few years, due to health concerns. It was about this time he got involved in the security of Beverly’s Bar, staying in an RV  behind the bar.
It was several years later, in January 2003, “Pappy” and “Rabbit” (who had been friends since the 1980’s) got together. Then in 2006 they moved out of Austin into the country, between Lockhart and Luling, where “Rabbit” already had property next to her family. After a rather lengthy engagement , “Pappy” and “Rabbit” were married on November 22, 2016.  “Pappy” began to have some serious health problems back in the 1990’s, but had them somewhat under control until 2017 when he began a severe decline, with a few heart attacks and a couple of strokes. It ultimately changed completely with the amputation of his right leg which would not heal properly thus proving the need to stay in one rehabilitation facility after another. And, this put a drain on his strength, making him very tired and leading to his passing six weeks ago.
“Pappy” is survived by his wife “Rabbit” (Kathryn Fox); his son, Phillip Fox and wife, Chrissy; granddaughters, Patience, Harmony, Karisa and Angel; great-grandson, Elija; step-son, Noah Glasgow; and grandchildren, Reid Hanna, Caden Glasgow Tippett, Payton Glasgow and Kaylynn Cash. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and familyish friends.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at the Lockhart VFW hall (3 miles south of town) at 12 noon – with interment of his ashes at the Mineral Springs Cemetery at 1:45 p.m.

Always asking questions and pointing out the pitfalls, sometimes she said words that you did not want to hear or think about, but that was Linda. She believed that you must speak the truth, because it is not about us, it is about learning to love and using what you are given to impact others in positive ways.

Obituary Preview: My heart skipped a beat when I first met her, I could tell she didn’t notice me.  I knew, with patience, she might see me.
Twelve years was not long to wait for the love and friendship we afforded each other.  For the next twenty eight years of cloudy days and moonlit nights, through the honest respect we gave one another, no matter the weather, we could never count the sunshiny days spent together.
I thank God for allowing me to experience and learn from you. The Good Lord needs you now, but I don’t have to let you go.  You will always be in my heart
