Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Hamer Creek Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead. Rev Rupert Medford and Rev. Mike Greene will officiate and burial will follow at Sharon Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Rev. Browning was born January 30, 1936 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late John and Mary Katherine Martin Browning. He was a retired Baptist Minister having served pastorates at Sea Level Baptist Church, Sea Level, NC, Huggins Memorial Baptist Church, Harkers Island, NC, Hamer Creek Baptist Church, Mt. Gilead, NC, Long Branch Baptist Church, Lumberton, NC, First Baptist Church, Star, NC, Midway Baptist Church , Lumberton, NC and Westside Baptist Church, Red Springs, NC. After retirement he served as interim pastor for several churches.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years Mildred Campbell Browning on October 24, 2023.He was also preceded in death by a sister Juanita McCoy.
He is survived by his son Jerry Browning and wife Teresa of Mt. Gilead and his daughter, Lisa Ricci and husband Harden of Holly Springs, NC. Two brothers, Richard Browning of Conway, SC and Michael Browning of Laurens, SC and a sister, Gail B. Williamson of Belton, SC. Four grandchildren Randy Browning (Shannon) of Mt Gilead, NC, Tori Williamson (David) of Mt Gilead, NC, Ethan Ricci (Kristine) of Fuquay Varina, NC, Josh Ricci (Casey) of Clayton, NC and eight great-grandchildren.

Julia was born January 3, 1938 in Anson County to the late Ernest Jerome and Glennie Hough Adams. She was a 1956 graduate of Morven High School where she was an exceptional basketball player having her jersey retired when she graduated. She retired as owner and operator of her cleaning business and following retirement was a substitute teacher for many years with Montgomery County Schools.She was a member of Forks of Little River Baptist Church.
Julia was a wonderful cook and made beautiful cakes for the public. She was never idle and enjoyed embroidery and made beautiful quilts but her favorite pastime was spending “Granny Love Time” with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Suzie Humphries Bradford (Doyle) of Franklin, TN, Gail Humphries Bruton (Danny) of Mt. Gilead and Jane Humphries Ponds of Southport. One sister, Juanita Adams of Dunwoody, GA. Step-Children, Neal Clark (Carolyn), Michael Clark (Julie) and Melissa Dunn (Bobby) all of Troy. 14 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years J. R. Clark Jr. and her brothers and sister, Ernest Jerome Adams Jr, Harvey Adams, Larry Adams and Jo Adams Rao. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Mrs Hearne will lie in state Tuesday Afternoon from 2:00 until 5:00 at Edwards Funeral Home of Mt. Gilead.
Becky was born July 7, 1938 in Richmond County to the late Jack and Doris Tedder Crump. She was a 1956 graduate of Mt. Gilead High School and attended Greensboro Women's College.She retired after 44 years as office manager of Jacob’s Creek Stone Company.She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Gilead where she served in numerous roles including Children's Sunday School Teacher.
Becky was an accomplished artist painting beautiful oil paintings. She enjoyed many years as a student at Montgomery County Community College Art Classes and later with her friends painting at the Montgomery County Senior Center.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years George Hearne, her daughter Laura Hearne Feldman and husband Howard and son Scott Hearne and wife Donna and grandson Daniel Feldman, Step Granddaughter Summer King Foerman and husband Ryan Foerman, and step great grandchildren Sawyer, Redding and Mason Foerman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Betty Crump Warner.

Sidney Lee Greene passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023. He was 95 years old. He is survived by his beautiful wife, Doris, with whom he shared 71 wonderful years of marriage.
They were blessed with four children. The eldest son, Jeffrey Greene, was killed in an accident at 18 years of age. Their other three children--Gary Greene (Lila), Darlene Crump (Ronnie), and Susan Hayes (Kevin)--have produced five wonderful grandchildren: Travis (Kristen), Hillary (Justin), April (Evan), Brian (Rylee), and Mallory (Brett), who have given them nine great-grandchildren.
Sidney was placed into the foster care system as a child along with his brothers and sisters. He shined shoes on the street corner to help feed his abandoned family. He fought for his country in Korea, married his young sweetheart, started a successful business, and provided well for his family. But the true measure of his life was who he was as a man. Sid was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He lived his life with respect and honor. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an honest businessman. He spoke his mind when he needed to and kept quiet when it was best.
His legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be forever missed.
In addition to his son, he was preceded in death by his parents Archie Rufus Greene and Nettie Elizabeth Sanders; brothers and sisters Rufus Leslie Benton, George Luther Greene, Pearline Seago, and Evelyn Jackson.
Sidney was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead and a proud participant in the local VFW.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at Sharon Cemetery with military honors. His grandson, Rev. Sidney Brian Hayes, will officiate and the family will receive friends after the services at First Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead.

Phillip Monroe Thompson - July 29, 1937 - February 18, 2023

Obituary Preview: Phillip (Phil) Monroe Thompson, age 85, of Pee Dee, NC passed away peacefully on February 18th, surrounded by his loving family.
The family will receive friends at Edwards Funeral Home in Mt. Gilead from 4 PM to 6 PM on Monday, February 20th, 2023. Funeral Services will take place at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead on Tuesday, February 21st at 11 AM.
He was born in Montgomery County, NC on July 29, 1937 the oldest son of ten children born to Lacy and Ruth Thompson.
Phil was a devoted, Christian, husband, and father. He was married to the late Betty Lou Thompson for 33 years before her passing. Together they raised Betty’s two sons Michael and Leonard Britt along with their daughter, Donna Ruth (Thompson) Cranford, in their beloved country home in Pee Dee.  He was a devoted husband, loving father and caring brother to his nine siblings.
No one can deny that Phil was a hard worker.  As a young man, he helped his father on the family farm and worked in a sawmill cutting logs. He later worked in the manufacture of furniture at the Norwood furniture plant, as a fixer at Pee Dee Hosiery, in the shipping department at Gilead Manufacturing, and then went on to retire from Fruit of the Loom in Star, NC.
As a father and grandfather, he always spent time with his family, whether it was taking them fishing with his wife Betty, playing cards, pitching baseball or attending their kid’s many activities.  He believed in putting God and his family first and gave freely of himself and his time. Phil was never one to miss a family event or gathering, especially around a delicious meal. He was a faithful member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, having served as a deacon for many years.
Two of Phil’s passions were the Atlanta Braves and hunting.  He loved following the Braves on radio, television and in person, which included attending the 1991 National League Championship and appearance in that year’s World Series. He also spent many, many days quail and rabbit hunting. Seeing hunting dogs work a field was one of his great passions and many who hunted with him would attest to his love of hunting in the woodlands and fields of Montgomery County.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents Lacy and Ruth Thompson, his beloved wife Betty Lou Thompson, stepson Leonard Britt, brother Brad Thompson and sister Argene (Bill) McKeithan.
Phil is survived by his stepson Michael (Debbie) Britt, daughter Donna (Lloyd) Cranford; daughter-in-law Lisa Britt; grandchildren, Christopher Cranford, Lauren Britt and Landis Britt; step-grandchildren David Hall, Sarah Saheim and Phillip Cranford; eight great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren and seven siblings; Lorena (Dempsey) Surratt, Sam Thompson, Marie (Jim) Bowles Rebecca (Scott) Dunn, Alice (Phillip) Richardson, Jason (Reba) Thompson, and Brenda (Larry) Marley; and long-time companion Brenda McIntyre.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharries for their gracious care of Phil in his final days.

She was a giving person with a heart of gold, always caring for and helping out others. She loved her cat Midnight.
She is survived her daughter Felicia Nicole Ridenhour (Brandon) of Albemarle. One sister, Tammy Lee Speakman (Curt) of Mt. Gilead. Two brothers, Steve Biggers(Kathy) of Troy and David Biggers (Teresa) of Wadesboro. Her former husband Kenneth Allen Ridenhour of Gold Hill.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Richardson and Debbie Dennis.

Gary will be loving remembered as a person who never met a stranger and always willing to help anyone in need. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who greatly enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing even though he didn’t get to go much because he was constantly working to provide for his family and help others.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife Becky Bowles Hamilton of the home. His four children, Jordyn Reynolds of Star, Brittney Sheffield (Casey) of Locust, Christopher Hamilton (Ashton) of the home and Samantha Morton (Garrett) of Mt. Gilead. Gilead and Mike Lefler (Vickie) of Troy. Her Mother-in;law, Mae Bell Thompson of Albemarle. Three grandchildren, Megan, Gage and Spencer Thompson and three great-grandchildren, Malachi, Mila and Kennedy Thompson.

Charles was born February 1, 1969 in Moore County to John and Joan McRae Tedder. He was a 1987 graduate of West Montgomery High School and received a degree in Math from UNCC. He was a talented musician and played with the Charlotte Symphony during college. He taught math at CPCC earlier in his career and later was involved in the trucking industry. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Mount Gilead. In addition to his parents Charles is survived by his sister Lynne Tedder of Mount Gilead. His Aunt Margaret Rose McRae Epps (Herby) of San Antonio, Texas. His Great-Aunt, Doris McRae Hunsucker of Southern Pines. His McRae cousins, Kevin McRae, Lisa McRae Hurley, Julianne McRae Ingram, Teresa Burdine (Duane), Jason Burdine (Andrea) and John Burdine (Gwen). His Tedder cousins, Stan (Belinda), Carol, Cathay, Mike, Karen, Becky (George), Iris, David, Steve, Russ and Jake (Marcelene)

Harold was born July 4, 1937 in Montgomery County to the late Jonah and Mary Wilson Lynthacum. He was a retired Painter and a member of First Baptist Church of Biscoe.
Harold was an accomplished musician who was able to play most all stringed instruments. He especially enjoyed playing bluegrass and gospel music. He was the #1 Banjo picker for years. Harold enjoyed sharing his gift of music in churches, nursing homes and with his friends.
He is survived by his friend and companion of  many years Ina Safrit of Mt. Gilead. His children, Kitty Hamilton and Stephen Lynthacum both of South Florida. Two sisters, Joann Hall (Keith) of Biscoe and Sara Smith of Albemarle. One brother, Roy Lynthacum of Tennessee and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ryan was born October 18, 1990 in Montgomery County to Jimmy and Kathleen Metzgar Crump of Mt. Gilead. He was a 2009 graduate of West Montgomery High School and a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Gilead and was self employed.
Ryan loved his family and was always smiling and goofing around, especially with his nieces and nephews. Ryan loved the mountains and hoped to live there one day. He loved being outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, camping or gold panning. Ryan loved his animals; Lola, Sophie, Otis, Albus and Athena. Over the years there were many more from dogs, cats, snakes and even an opossum.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his brothers Matt Crump (Brooke) and Adam Crump (Stacey) all of Mt. Gilead. His girlfriend Makayla Bacon and nieces and nephews, Mason, Bailey,, Jaxon, Caylee and Lincoln.
Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents Lindsey and Christine Crump and George and Cecelia Metzgar and his uncle George Metzgar Jr.

Mr. Hamilton was born April 30, 1941, to the late William Columbus and Nellie Grace Hidreth Hamilton.  He worked for 23 years as maintenance supervisor for Montgomery County.  He was a Jack of all trades and could fix anything.  He loved spending time with his family, working on antique cars, and being outdoors. He worked many years with tile and marble and helped build tunnels for roads in Virginia. Jeter Dockery "Doc" Byrd - October 21, 1939 - July 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: Doc Byrd of Mount Gilead, NC passed to the heavenly realm on July 2, 2024 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.  A celebration of life service with Masonic rites will be held at Hamer Creek Baptist Church on July 6, 2024 at 11 o’clock.  Interment will be held in the church cemetery.  The Reverend Rupert Medford will officiate.  The family will meet with family and friends from 10 to 11 o’clock in the church fellowship building.
Doc was born on October 21st 1939 in Montgomery County as the ninth child to Nathan Jeter Byrd and Beulah Elizabeth Little.  In 1966 he married the love of his life and soul mate Linda Gardner who passed in 2012.  He was ready to leave this life and requested to go to Hospice House where Linda had passed.
He retired from Jordan Lumber Company working at first as a truck driver and later worked in the scale house.  Over the years Doc enjoyed horseback riding, spending time at Holden Beach, gardening, watching Atlanta Braves baseball, Carolina Tarheels basketball and NASCAR racing.  After the passing of Linda, Doc spent time visiting with family and friends and especially enjoyed going and seeing friends at Hall’s Auction House in Marshville, NC.
He was preceded in death by brothers Lee, L.P., Bill and sisters Mae Harrison and Lois Sneed.
