Sigrid V. Lenert - October 21, 1928 - May 22, 2020

Departed: 05/22/2020 (Sacramento)
Obituary Preview: Sigrid V. Lenert MD quietly passed away in her San Diego home on May 22, 2020. She was 91 years old. Those who knew her, saw her as one of those larger-than-life figures, developing many deep and loyal friendships, and impressing all with her energy, kindness and generosity. Throughout her long and eventful life, she was known, for her love of her children and grandchildren, but also her love of travel, fashion, the sun, flashy white cars, dining out, and intelligent conversation. But probably her greatest pleasure was a good party with her friends. Dr. Sigrid lived life on her own terms and in a variety of roles, as a physician, businesswoman, mother, grandmother, cousin, and a great friend. She was a pioneer women doctor, and a constant advocate for her patients, an entrepreneur, and a worldwide traveler. But, more than anything, she directed her own life and lived it as she saw fit. As a mother, she taught this to her children, saying “Freedom is the responsibility to discipline yourself.”
Dr. Sigrid was born in 1928, the second of two children to Arnold and Ida Karklis. She grew up in Riga, Latvia. During World War II, her family fled the oppression of Soviet communism, coming first to Austria, and then emigrating in the United States. Her father was a successful carpenter and instilled the need for education into his only daughter, once taking his little girl to a basement laundry to see the tired, toiling women. “This will be your life if you don’t go to school,” he said. And so, she did, supported by the sacrifices of her mother and father, acquiring a medical doctorate at the University of Munich and completing a residency in Internal Medicine at Grant Hospital in Chicago.
In 1957, she met her future husband, Dr. Charles Lenert, while she was undergoing additional training in San Francisco. They fell in love and eventually, he persuaded her to move to Sacramento, where they worked together in an office on El Camino Avenue. Sigrid and Charles were married in 1958, and their “Fred and Ginger” combination of charm and good looks soon put them at the center of Sacramento society. Unfortunately, this ended all too soon, with Dr. Charles passing in 1966, leaving Dr. Sigrid, a young working widow, with two children to raise.
She continued to run the couple’s primary care practice and built her world. Dr. Sigrid always thought of herself as a physician and maintained an active medical license until the day she died. She worked with the same two trusted nurses, Joyce Carlson and Agnes Gehres for more than 40 years. She traded medical visits for vegetables and treated nuns in her clinic for free. Her patients felt how much she cared for them, and loved her for that.
She believed the United States was the land of opportunity--the best county in the world. She found success in real estate and used her wealth to devote much of her practice to those who could not afford to pay for medical care. In her late 50’s, she found the second love of her life, Mel Lyons, and danced her way to happiness and then around the world in many travels. Sigrid and Mel were together nearly every day for the past 35 years.
Her father’s lesson on the importance of education never left Dr. Sigrid and she instilled this in her children. One son, Leslie, followed her to become a physician; the other, Michael Edward, became a lawyer. Both later acquired additional advanced degrees and became professors at major universities. She also gave generously to the education of her grandchildren Matthew and James, and also to the education of her cousin, Laura Eks.

Pastor Isaac Holloman - August 01, 1931 - May 21, 2020

Departed: 05/21/2020 (Sacramento)
Obituary Preview: Home Going Celebration for Pastor Isaac Holloman
Isaac Holloman was born on August 1, 1931, in Hertford County in the small farmland town of Ahoskie, North Carolina (NC) to the late Margaret (Darden) Holloman and Whallon Holloman, Sr. He was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 21, 2020. He is preceded in death by his mother Margaret, his father Whallon, Sr., his sisters Glennie Turner and Reva Bowser and his brothers Ernest “Buddy” and Whallon, Jr. “WJ” Holloman.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, his wife Lucinda (Pierce) Holloman of Fair Oaks, California (CA), his two sons Isaac Hollomon, Jr. (Mercedes) of Fresno, CA and Benito Holloman (Cathy) of Citrus Heights, CA, three granddaughters Tara Naisbitt, Ashley Holloman and Kourtney Holloman, one great-grandson Marcus Naisbitt, one great-granddaughter Renee Campbell and two great-great-granddaughters Aliyah and London Naisbitt and a much beloved extended family and friends.
Upon graduating from Robert L. Vann High School in Ahoskie, NC in 1951, Isaac moved to New York where he graduated from the Mergenthaler Linotype School on February 28, 1952. Yet, Isaac sought to carve out a life of opportunity for both himself and his wife Lucinda with whom he married on March 28, 1952. In building on his future, he could see no greater purpose than to serve his country and on December 29, 1952, he proudly joined the United States Air Force.
In his service to our country, Isaac’s career would take him on a journey throughout the world to many places such as, Springfield, Massachusetts, Taiwan, England and even Vietnam. Finally, he and his family settled in California in 1968; often telling people that it was God’s Country. After over twenty years of service to his country, he was honorably discharged as a Technical Sergeant from Beale Air Force Base (AFB) on July 31, 1973. Yet, Isaac was not one to set limits for himself; instead he sought to pursue a higher education. On June 1, 1979, he graduated from Sacramento State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts. He continued his career aspirations and went on to work for the Army Depot at McClellan AFB in Sacramento, CA as an electronic mechanic and retired in the early 2000s to enjoy his next chapter of life. At an early age, he joined St. John 2 nd Missionary Baptist Church in Ahoskie, NC. In his adult life he joined St. John Missionary Baptist in Sacramento, CA where he was called serve and received his Bachelor in Theology from Pacific Coast Bible College on May 24, 1985. He later served as Reverend to several Baptist churches in Sacramento, CA. While, Isaac served at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church he was ordained as the Pastor of the Church. In his call to ministry, Isaac continued to act in service to his community through his television program God’s Family United and visiting nursing homes and hospitals to help comfort and spread the gospel. His hope was to aid anyone that may have been in need of prayer or was willingly to listen to him speak of his faith and love for God. He often would start a prayer or sermon with is favorite hymn “Amazing Grace” and sought out both truth and solace in one of his favorite scriptures Psalms 30:5, often reciting to others as a reminder and a constant comfort that “joy cometh in the morning.”
He was nothing if not a family man and whether you were near or far he held you close to his heart. For over thirty years, he made it his mission to maintain his relationships with family and friends by traveling across country by car from California to North Carolina to visit them. He often found a sense of peace in his travels; believing that there was nothing like the open road. He was known to always dress his best and despite blistering heat, you would find him wearing a three piece suit; the look of absolute contentment from a man with gratitude for a life well lived.
For those who knew him well, if asked to describe his life in one word, it would simply be “blessed.” Now, as we say goodbye to this beloved man of God, his story begins anew as Heaven’s gates open to lead him into eternity with our heavenly father.

Doris Ann Pyles - October 31, 1946 - May 01, 2020

Departed: 05/01/2020 (Sacramento)
Obituary Preview: Doris Ann Lloyd was born to Emma Matilda Gadsden and Rev. Eugene Augustus Lloyd, Sr. on October 31, 1946 in Pineville, South Carolina. Doris accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at age 11 at the Redeemer Reformed Episcopal Church in Pineville. An exceptional student, Doris graduated the Salutatorian of Russellville High School in Russellville, South Carolina in 1964. She went on to study Business Education at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1968.
Upon graduating from South Carolina State, Doris moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming to live with her sister, Mary, brother-in-law, Frank, and their family, stationed at F. E. Warren Air Force Base (AFB). There, she met Ronald Nelson Pyles, who was likewise stationed at F. E. Warren. On January 10, 1970, Ronald and Doris would marry in a small ceremony in the Base chapel. Ronald and Doris were then stationed at McDill AFB in Tampa, Florida. During their time in Tampa, Ronald and Doris would add to their union a daughter, Janella Yvette, on November 14, 1971. Ronald was later stationed in Shemya, Alaska for a year, while Doris and Janella stayed in Tampa close to members of his family. He then received orders in 1973 to McClellan AFB in North Highlands, California, where the family would ultimately settle upon his honorable discharge.
Doris began her career in banking with Marine Bank of Tampa. She credits her time at that bank as pivotal in making the decision to enter and pursue trusts and estate planning as a focus. Doris had a distinguished career as a Vice President, Senior Trust Officer at several major banks. Her trust and estate planning career in Sacramento began with Bank of America’s Trust Department in 1974, until their Trust Department was acquired by Wells Fargo in the late 80s. She remained with Wells Fargo until the mid-90s. Thereafter, she joined and retired from US Bank in 2012.
Along the way, Doris took time to elevate her skills by earning the Certified Trust Financial Planner (CTFP) designation through the Cannon Financial Institute at Pepperdine University, and she would likewise rise to serve as President of the Sacramento Estate Planning Council and become an active member of the Rotary Club of Sacramento. She was also initiated into the Sigma Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority in 1996. Doris served on several boards of local charities but took a particular interest in the work of Stanford Children’s Settlement, continuing with them even after retirement. Her colleagues admired Doris for her wisdom, inner strength, and great sense of humor. She had a strong sense of fairness in all her endeavors, and was especially kind to everyone she met.
Doris had an epiphany at age 35 and dedicated herself to a daily fitness regimen – a workout she faithfully maintained five to six days a week for more than 35 years. Up until her health no longer allowed in 2016, she could be seen walking about three miles a day in Antelope near her home; and even after that time, she continued using her in-home treadmill. A highly disciplined student of the Word, she enjoyed her radio Bible and personal study times after her daily workouts.
Ronald and Doris joined New Testament Baptist Church of North Highlands in 1974. She was a faithful member, becoming an active servant leader in Choir #2, the Young Adult Usher Board, and Young Women on Mission. She would go on to be part of the Finance team and then Finance lead. She would continue her finance work and love for music ministry at New Love Ministries, where she also enjoyed her group Bible studies with the Women of Excellence. Over the course of a few months at the end of 2016, Doris would notice changes in her physical health, and in December of that year, her symptoms led doctors to uncover a brain tumor. She would undergo brain surgery on December 22, only to be released on December 24 with her strength almost fully restored. It was miraculous! She would be diagnosed with a glioblastoma – a rare, aggressive brain tumor with the short life expectancy of only six to 14 months. The prayers of the righteous, combined with Doris’ faith, tenacity, and treatment would avail, allowing her to live more than three years! Every moment, she would give God the praise for each day. Again, it was miraculous!
In December 2019, Doris’ health would take a significant turn while visiting her daughter in Houston, Texas. Both she and Ronald would be hospitalized during that stay with Ronald passing on December 23, 2019. Doris would return with Janella to Sacramento to funeralize him. She would likewise receive news that her tumor was growing with no more treatment available. Four months after losing Ronald, Doris passed peacefully from labor to reward on May 1, 2020, with her daughter by her side.
Doris is preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Ronald Pyles; her parents, Eugene Augustus Lloyd, Sr. and Emma Matilda Lloyd; her sister, Mary Ghee; her brothers, Jesse Berkley “JB” Lloyd, Walter “Bummy” Lloyd, and Eugene “Gene” Lloyd, Jr.; stepmother, Rebecca Lloyd; sister-in-law, Nellie Lloyd; and father- and mother-in-law, Edward and Marietta Pyles.
