Obituary Preview: Betty Gillenwater, 82, died peacefully in her home on April 23, 2024.
Daughter of Ivan and Dorothy Newby, Betty grew up one of eleven siblings on her family’s tobacco farm. She left Indiana to work for the Census Bureau in Washington DC, traveling from city to city collecting census data in her flashy red convertible. She was proud to report that she visited every state except Alaska. She married Donald Gillenwater and had four children, returning to Indiana in 1977 following his death.
Betty was a perpetual volunteer for Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the Jeffersonville High School Band. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Otisco. A proud grandmother, she was a constant presence at ballgames, ballet recitals and theater productions. Betty enjoyed solving all types of puzzles, cooking with the grandkids, and stirring up fun with her chainsaw. Betty is survived by her daughters, Susan Martinez and Ellen Everwine, son-in-law, Kevin Everwine, daughter-in-law, Beate Gillenwater and six amazing granddaughters: Elizabeth Nicholson, Meg Everwine, Ruby Martinez, Nina Martinez, Laura Gillenwater and Rachel Everwine. She has one grandson-in-law, Noah Nicholson. Her siblings and many nieces and nephews know her as “Sarge.”
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gillenwater and sons Lee and Donnie Gillenwater.
Visitation will be 10-2 on Saturday, April 27 at E.M. Coots Funeral Home, 120 W. Maple St., Jeffersonville, IN. Service is scheduled for 2 pm with burial to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Jeffersonville.

An ardent devotee of the wizarding world of Harry Potter, she found magic in both fiction and reality.
Brittany's heart overflowed with affection for dogs, her faithful companions, and she found tranquility in the ritual of getting her nails done. Her infectious laughter filled every room, and her talent for speaking in a brilliant British accent never failed to bring smiles to those around her.
She is survived by her loving parents, Duard Jr. & LuAnn Avery; her devoted brothers, Troy & Brett Avery; her dear sister, Brooke Avery; her uncle Stephen Byers and his wife Connie; her aunt Cassandra Montgomery; and her furry faithful companion, Honey. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Joseph & Mary Byers and Duard Sr. & Eloise Avery; along with her beloved Pit Bull Babi.

Melissa was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Jeffersonville, IN, where she found camaraderie and shared values.

Born on July 21, 1932, Mary Alice was the eldest sibling born to the late Ellison J. and Fannie E.
Hearn, Jeffersonville, IN. Mary Alice lived a life of service to God, her family, church, local and national civic organizations. She loved to read and excelled in math and science. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Taylor High School in 1952.
She retired from Greater Clark County Schools where she was an attendance clerk at Jeffersonville High School, a lifetime member of the Jeffersonville/ Clark County, IN N.A.A.C.P. where she held various positions and enjoyed working locally and traveling with the local branch to regional and national conventions. She was recognized as one of their Emeritus members for her service.
A longtime Jeffersonville Chapter member of AARP, she also worked on various community events and served on several community boards, as well as the 8th precinct Election Board.
Mary Alice loved her church, The Wesley United Methodist Church.
During her membership she served her younger years as a communion steward, Sunday school worker and a vacation bible schoolteacher, as well as a choir member. She later became a liturgist speaker and represented her church many times at its annual conference. She was a member of the Super Seniors, and the United Methodist Women where she held various positions until her health declined.
Mary Alice was a caregiver to many family members throughout time. She always put her family before herself. She displayed a special lifetime calling of service to others.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel L. Moody Sr., grandson Julian L. Wright, daughter, Wilma Hearn Johnson, brothers, Ellison J. Hearn, Sr., William B. Hearn Sr., Morgan D. Hearn, and sister, Sarah Hearn King.
She is survived by her loving children, Daniel L. Moody Jr., Richard L. Moody Jeffersonville, IN, W. Darin Moody (Alison Bates) of Indianapolis, IN; daughters Diana Lynn Anderson (Mac) and Kimberly Moody Ellery, both of Louisville, KY; Grandchildren Johnny L. Wright Jr. (Candy), Melissa Little, Crystal E. Banks (Lamont), Amber Burkley, Taevon Ellery, Rachel Bates, 10 great grandchildren, a great-great grandson, Sister-in-Law, Eva Hearn, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family would like to thank Hosparus Health, and Home Instead for their care, and special blessings of love, gratitude, and support to our brother, Richard Moody. Toni dedicated her life to spreading kindness and joy to all who knew her. She worked in Human Resources at Lockheed Martin, where her care for others left a lasting impact.
Toni attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, finding solace and community in her faith. She found expression in her love for painting, particularly watercolors, often capturing scenes of wildlife and indulging in her passion for abstract art.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Toni found peace and happiness at the beach in Ocean City, Maryland. She enjoyed going on walks and knew everyone in her neighborhood, always ready to strike up a conversation and spread warmth wherever she went.
Toni's love for cats was evident to all who knew her, finding comfort and companionship in their gentle presence.
She is survived by her sons Scott Turner and his wife Barbara of Charlestown, IN, and Brad Turner of Jeffersonville, IN; grandchildren Jacob, Riley, and Abigail.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert “Bob” Edward Turner; parents; brothers Ralph and Philip Cifizzari; sisters Angelina Martin and Mary Chiaravelotti.
At her request, Antoinette "Toni" Mary Turner will be cremated. In lieu of formal gatherings, her family invites those who wish to pay their respects to honor her memory in their own personal way.

Obituary Preview: Janice, C Lenfert, 69, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 22, 2024. Janice attended a one room school house in Scottsburg and later graduated from our lady of Providence High school, class of ‘72.
She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Indiana University Southeast and multiple awards for her dedication and compassion towards patients and her coworkers. She was also awarded by the governor of the state of Indiana, for her commitment to volunteering and serving her community.
She was a member of the Knights of Columbus auxiliary #1348 where she organized an annual lip sync show raising thousands of dollars for local charities. She loved music, dancing, and traveling, especially to their condo in Myrtle Beach. She loved her family fiercely, but lived for her grandkids. She touched so many lives and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years Nicholas “Nick” Charles Lenfert of Jeffersonville, IN; daughters Kelley Kinnaird (Sean) of Jeffersonville, IN, and Nicole Sharp (Jason) of Georgetown, IN; sons Craig Pangburn (Julie) of Jeffersonville, IN, and Nicholas Scott Lenfert of Clarksville, IN; brother Rodman Simms (Sue) of St. Louis, MO; along with 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents and several siblings. Janice Simms Lenfert’s life celebration is March 30th at 2pm for informal reminiscing and eulogy. Followed by music, dancing, and celebration of her life of fun, love, and service. There will be food available plus a cash bar. William "Pat" Patrick Raidy - August 04, 1927 - March 18, 2024

Obituary Preview: William “Pat” Patrick Raidy, 96, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 18, 2024. He was born on August 4, 1927, to the late Lewis Raidy and Mary Ehringer Raidy in Jeffersonville, IN.
Pat graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1947 where he was a standout basketball player and team captain. He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952 and was deployed aboard the U.S.S. Bataan aircraft carrier during the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. Pat was a retired liquor and wine wholesale salesman, and he enjoyed golfing and fishing, especially on the Ohio River. In September 2019, Pat took part in Honor Flight alongside his son, traveling to Washington, D.C. with other veterans to visit war memorials and reflect together on their time in service. Pat counted this among the highlights of his life and loved to tell stories about the trip. Pat also took great pride in his grandchildren (who affectionately called him “Big Pat”) and was an avid supporter of their athletic and academic achievements.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Marian Lang Raidy of Jeffersonville, IN; son Patrick Raidy (Sherry) of Cincinnati, OH; daughter Jane Elliott (Chick) of Jeffersonville, IN; grandchildren Susan Elliott Reach (Justin), Shannon Falo (Déo), Patrick Elliott (Katlyn), Shauna Duncan (Will), and Shelley Raidy; great-grandchildren Sloan, Amira, Zion, and Jack; nephews Danny, Tommy, and Bobby Raidy and Jim Lang; and niece Suzanne Lang Fodor.

Rodden, in Corydon and Lanesville; in addition, his six siblings: Kathy Phillips, in Ellenton, Florida; Patty Henderzahs (Greg), in New Albany, Indiana; Marianne Waldman (Dr. Randy), in Lexington, Kentucky; Kevin Rodden (Donna), in Greenville, Indiana; Betsy Sumner (Terry), in Jeffersonville, Indiana; and John Rodden (Mary Beth), in Jeffersonville, Indiana; and many close nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was an active member of the Indiana Democratic African American Caucus (IDAAC), Clark County Democratic Men’s Club, and the Clark County Democratic Party where he attended State Conventions as a Delegate; always representing the interests of unions and promoting union membership.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Billy Sue Smith of Jeffersonville, IN. Proud stepfather of three children: Michael A. Collins (Terri) of Jeffersonville, IN, Dustin T. White of Jeffersonville, IN; Tara S. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie, her mother and father, Mary and Jesse Gravett, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ora and Samuel Keith, her brother, Howard Gravett, her sister, Thelma Poole, her niece Linda, and her brother-in-law, Raymond Keith.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebekah, her sister-in-law, Eveline Gravett, her niece, Beth Gravett and her niece, Kathy (Rick) Decker.

Jim's professional and academic journey was marked by perseverance and dedication. Beginning as a student with perfect attendance from kindergarten to graduation and then rising from a humble machine operator to Vice President in the printing industry. His work ethic and leadership inspired all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
With a heart full of wanderlust, Jim found joy in exploring the world with his partner Kelly Huber, most recently embarking on adventures in Ireland. Together, they created cherished memories that will be treasured forever. The love they shared was big, beautiful and a highlight of Jim’s life.
Jim's magnetic personality and quick wit endeared him to all who crossed his path. From his love for a good pork chop to Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, Jim's zest for life was contagious. Jim found solace, camaraderie and lifelong friends on the softball field and bowling alley, relishing every moment spent playing the games he loved.
