Audrey Myrtle Peterson Walton - September 24, 1936 - April 20, 2024

Departed: 04/20/2024 (Kingsville)
Obituary Preview: Audrey Myrtle (Orndorff) Peterson Walton, 87 of Perry Hall, Maryland, passed away peacefully in hospice care on April 20, 2024, after having a massive stroke four days prior.
Audrey was the daughter of the late Raymond Bernard Orndorff and Myrtle Anne (Kane) Orndorff. She was born in Bonneauville, Pennsylvania on September 24, 1936.
Audrey is survived by a loving family, who adored her, including her daughter, Pamela Elaine (Peterson) Deaver and husband Brian James Deaver, Sr., her son, Grant Goodwin Peterson, Jr. and wife Rachel Marie (Kerins) Peterson, and her daughter Christine Sandra (Peterson) Edwards. Audrey was so very proud of her seven grandchildren, who include Cherish Pamela (Deaver) Smith, Brian James Deaver II, Benjamin Grant Peterson Deaver and fiancé Amanda, Grant Gregory Peterson, Shannon Marie Peterson, John Samuel Edwards and wife Leanne, Luke Andrew Edwards and wife Faith. Audrey leaves behind her beloved great-granddaughter, Solari Ryze Smith. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Audrey was the last surviving member of a large family that included 11 siblings: Anna Mae (Orndorff) Zorbach, Vincent Joseph Orndorff, John Bernard Orndorff, James Allen Orndorff, Wilfred Francis Orndorff, Joyce Mary (Orndorff) Noel, Wallace Gerard Orndorff, Helena Virginia (Orndorff) Busick, Thomas Raymond Orndorff, and Veronica Agnes (Orndorff) Hagerman. She was also preceded in death by her ex-husband Grant Goodwin Peterson Sr. in 2022 and second husband Norris Walton in 2013.
After graduating from Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, Pennsylvania in 1954, Audrey secured employment as an assembly line professional at the Friez Instrument Division of Bendix Aviation Corporation in Towson, Maryland. In September of 1959 Audrey and a young Baltimore County Police Officer named Grant Peterson began dating. Their first date was bowling with Joseph & Patricia Piraino. After a courtship of 10 months, they were married at St. Ursula Catholic Church in Parkville Maryland on June 26, 1960. Audrey & Grant created an ideal American childhood in Joppatowne for their family in the house that they built on Falconer Road in 1963. Evenings in the family room were spent working on reading and spelling skills, practicing arithmetic and times tables, working on puzzle books, coloring, watching television, playing with dolls and Lincoln Logs. A major family event was when all three kids had to get their tonsils removed. After surgery, the three kids recovered in two separate rooms and Audrey and Grant spent the entire night going back and forth with ice chips and water to comfort them! Audrey had started her career in the Harford County school system as a school secretary for Cedar Drive Elementary, and volunteered as a leader of a Blue Bird little girls troop. Generations of kids growing up in Joppatowne remember “Mrs. Peterson” as being the school secretary at Riverside Elementary in Joppatowne. As the family grew, in 1973 Audrey and Grant moved to a larger home in Joppatowne on Doncaster Road. Family life during these years included boating on the Chesapeake Bay, vacations to Ocean City, Luray Caverns, and Walt Disney World, Church services, and countless visits with grandparents, aunts and uncles. Starting in 1985 Audrey supplemented her income by becoming a real estate agent for Grempler Realty through 1993. In 1988 Audrey and Grant sold their Doncaster Road home, and had a custom home built on Terry Way in Fallston, Maryland. Before retiring from Riverside Elementary in 1996, Audrey got the opportunity to have granddaughter Cherish and grandson Brian experience having “Mimi” as their elementary school secretary! After retirement she started an annual trek to spend the winters in Bradenton, Florida. There she met Norris Walton. In 1998 she married Norris and they purchased and remodeled the historic Rochelle Mansion in Fallston, Maryland, which was the AMC Decorator Showcase House for the year 2000. To kick off the showcase, they held a Civil War Ball on the property, with Audrey and Norris in character as Mary Todd and Abraham Lincoln. The grandchildren were all young at this time, and all got to enjoy spending lots of time with Mimi in the mansion, playing croquette on the lawn, and exploring the surrounding woods and property over the next dozen years!
Audrey was the person who always got everyone together for holidays, including cousins and extended family Christmas Parties. Audrey’s amazing Thanksgiving Feasts were legendary, particularly with her homemade stuffing and traditional German sauerkraut and pork. She would entertain family with her talent for playing the piano. She always enjoyed a good competitive game of cards, like Pinochle or Golf, or dominos with her sisters and children and grandchildren. An avid reader, she also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, and was an active member of the Red Hats. In her later years she continued to make the trek to Florida for the winters, and was very involved in her grandchildren’s lives, attending numerous sporting events, school plays, band performances, graduations, and eventually was blessed with a great-granddaughter to love and cherish. She was loved dearly and will be missed tremendously.
Dates and times for a Celebration of Life at the E.F. Lassahn Funeral Home, P.A. at 11750 Belair Road Kingsville, Maryland 21087, and a Funeral Mass at St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church at 8030 Bradshaw Road, Bradshaw, Maryland 21206, and burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 12 East Hanover Street, Bonneauville, Pennsylvania 17325 will be announced when finalized.

Pastor Bob Kretzschmar - July 30, 1943 - February 08, 2024

Departed: 02/08/2024 (Kingsville)
Obituary Preview: Rev. Robert J. Kretzschmar Obituary Friday, July 30th, 1943 - Thursday, February 8th, 2024
Reverend Robert James Kretzschmar passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024. Pastor Bob, known for his sweet demeanor, thoughtfulness, and unwavering dedication to our Lord, leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and service
that will forever be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know him. Bob was born July 30, 1943 in Monroe, Michigan to Carl and Bernice Kretzschmar, moments after his “womb-mate,” Donald. The spirited boys grew up in a Lutheran household. The twins were called to be pastors, like their father, grandfather, and great-grandfather before them. In their early twenties, the twins summered in Ocean City where they ministered through music and song on the
beach. For over forty years, Bob served as a beacon of hope and solace to countless souls through his ministry as a Lutheran pastor. Bob vicared at Emmanuel, Catonsville, MD, and was ordained on September 7, 1969. He served as a Navy Chaplain in Newport, RI, and led parishes in Roselle, IL, and throughout Baltimore, MD (First Lutheran, Towson; Bethany Lutheran, Violetville; and Calvary Lutheran, Baltimore). For 25 of those years, he found his home at Calvary Lutheran Church,
where his presence brought comfort and inspiration. Pastor Bob also served the Southeastern District as pastoral delegate to conventions, member of the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Mission Society of Maryland, member of LINC Baltimore for Lutheran Inner City Churches, member of the board for Professional Care Services of the SED, and delegate for the Baltimore Lutheran High School Association. Pastor Bob was Chaplain at Spring Grove State Hospital, Director of Pastoral Services at Union Memorial Hospital,
and President of the Lutheran Home and Hospital Foundation Board. Continual learning was a hallmark of Bob’s journey. He earned a Master in Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, followed by a Master in Counseling Psychology from Loyola College to supplement his parish ministry with pastoral counseling. He was recognized as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (L.C.P.C.) in Maryland and a National Certified Counselor, as well as a clinical member and fellow of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors. He served the community as a counselor with the Pastoral Counseling Services of MD, Inc., and served his fellow pastors as Pastoral Counseling Chaplain at professional church worker conferences and as Circuit Counselor. His quiet humility lent itself to the role of counselor, where he poured his heart into facilitating communication to heal relationships through therapeutic ministry. His genuine concern for the well-being of others touched lives in ways that rippled outward to suffering
families. Bob enjoyed music, often picking up a guitar or trombone to praise God in song and anthem. He led informal worship on the beach in his early ministry, and years later, relaunched that style of “church without walls” as he created an outdoor service and praise band at Calvary. His musical enjoyment stretched beyond professional settings into performing with his kids in a Christmas band for the
enjoyment of both church and family.
Among Bob’s greatest joys was time spent with his brother’s family on vacation. Together the two families created and performed songs. To hear the twins sing together was a beautiful high point. Song and laughter followed wherever the Kretzschmars explored on those vacations, offering a powerful message of joy and
praise to many roller coaster lines. Nature and water drew Bob’s attention and admiration. He was a competitive swimmer well into his middle years, and sought the pool for exercise for as long as he was able to do so. He ran in several local races through scenic landscapes, declaring that a strong finish is a victory of its own. He captained the USS Kretzschmar at Lake Linganore to the delight of his children. In later years, Bob was an avid Regatta-enthusiast, often found racing the “Glory Bee” against other model sailboats at Oak Crest Village. The greenest of thumbs, Bob nurtured the most wilted of plants back to vibrant health, and found serenity in the process of planting and tending to local horticulture, even beyond his own garden. Bob’s well-tended yard and pond were officially recognized as a wildlife refuge. Bob also ushered comfort for his family with his consistent, yearlong use of the fireplace
and his meticulously stacked cord of firewood. This period of mourning is compounded by the recent passing of his twin brother, a loss that weighs heavily upon the hearts of those who knew them both. From this life to the next, their bond remains unbreakable. We imagine “the Dads” back to swimming laps and strumming guitars in heaven. They live on in our hearts and traditions, and through Christ, they live on in heaven as well. Praise God from
whom all blessings flow. Bob was the cherished husband of Diane E. Kretzschmar (nee Hoopert) and the devoted father of Ian Kretzschmar and his wife Lisa, Tracey Clements and her husband Bryan, James Gentry III, Brendan Kretzschmar and his wife Wendi, and Matthew Kretzschmar. Bob’s love extended to his grandchildren: Morgan Clements, Jordan Clements, James Gentry IV, Julia Gove, Elin Gentry, Lincoln
Gove, Connor Gove, and Leah Kretzschmar, all of whom he adored. Visitation hours in memory of Rev. Kretzschmar will be held at the E.F. Lassahn Funeral Home, P.A., 11750 Belair Road (Kingsville), on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. A memorial service to celebrate his life will take place at
Calvary Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11 am.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary website, or funeral home's website to inform friends, family, and community of the deceased person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They help to notify friends and family of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and offer a chance for loved ones to pay tribute and celebrate the person's life.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary often falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or obituary writer may assist with writing the obituary. The writer should aim to capture the essence and personality of the deceased in a concise and respectful manner.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service, charitable donations, and any other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or website. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Longer obituaries may be more suitable for online publications or personal websites.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or multiple photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging for readers.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and deadlines. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for the publication fee.

Can I write an obituary for someone who has been deceased for a long time?

Absolutely! While traditional obituaries are typically published shortly after a person's passing, there's no rule against writing one for someone who has been deceased for a longer period. This can be a meaningful way to honor their memory and share their story with others.

What is a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as their name, age, and date of death. It's often used when a full obituary is not desired or possible.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Yes! While an obituary should be respectful, it's okay to inject some humor or personality into the writing. This can help celebrate the deceased person's life and make the tribute more relatable and engaging.

How do I handle sensitive information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive details about the deceased person's life or circumstances surrounding their death, it's essential to approach these topics with tact and respect. Consider consulting with family members or close friends before including such information in the obituary.

Can I write my own obituary?

Some people choose to write their own obituary as a way to have control over how they're remembered. This can be a unique opportunity for self-reflection and expression. However, it's essential to consider your audience and ensure that your writing is respectful and tasteful.

What is an online obituary?

An online obituary is a digital version of a traditional printed obituary. It's usually published on a website or social media platform, allowing friends and family to share condolences, memories, and tributes with ease.

How long do online obituaries remain available?

The duration that an online obituary remains available varies depending on the website or platform. Some may keep them archived indefinitely, while others may remove them after a certain period. Be sure to check with the publication or website for their specific policies.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's difficult or impossible to make changes to an already-published obituary in print. However, online obituaries may allow for edits or corrections within a certain timeframe.

What is a memorial page?

A memorial page is a dedicated online space where friends and family can share memories, photos, and condolences for the deceased person. It often accompanies an online obituary and serves as a virtual gathering place for those who want to pay tribute.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites that specialize in historical records. Local libraries or historical societies may also have access to archived newspapers or records that can help you find an old obituary.

Can I reuse an existing obituary?

If you need to republish an obituary in another publication or online platform, you can reuse the existing text with permission from the original author or publisher. Be sure to give credit where due and make any necessary updates or revisions.

What is the difference between an obituary and a eulogy?

An obituary is a written notice announcing a person's death and providing basic information about their life. A eulogy is a speech or written tribute delivered at a funeral or memorial service to celebrate the person's life and share personal anecdotes.

Can I include quotes or poems in an obituary?

Absolutely! Including meaningful quotes, poems, or lyrics can add depth and personality to an obituary. Choose pieces that resonate with the deceased person's values, interests, or spirit.

How do I handle conflicting opinions when writing an obituary?

If there are differing opinions among family members or friends about what should be included in an obituary, try to find common ground and focus on celebrating the deceased person's life rather than dwelling on conflicts.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Yes! Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn can be effective ways to share an obituary with a wider audience. You can also create a memorial page on these platforms to collect condolences and memories.

What is the average cost of publishing an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, word count, and additional features like photos or special layouts. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to several hundred dollars for print publications.

Can I write an anonymous obituary?
