Brian Hubert McQuade - April 25, 1960 - April 13, 2024

Departed: 04/13/2024 (Mars Hill)
Obituary Preview: Mars Hill - Brian Hubert McQuade referred to as “Duck” by his friends, a man who defied gravity in more ways than one, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family as well as his two favorite pups Sarge & Dozer after a hard-fought battle against both cancer and kidney failure. He was born on April 25th, 1960, in Bath, NB. He was the son of Alton E. McQuade & Ann M. (Long) McQuade, nestled comfortably as the third mischief-maker of the 4 McQuade boys (Blake, Dana, Ross).
The family moved to the United States (Mars Hill) when he was three to pursue the American Dream and what’s a journey without a little romance? After many trips to Bridgewater on his mini-bike to pick up the love of his life Allyson (Tweedie) McQuade the two settled in Mars Hill and raised three adventurous kids (Tory, Brian Jr. (BJ), and Travis) of their own. As they grew up Brian would always tell them “You’ll never know until you try” and instilled the County work ethic that they’ve taken with them around the World.
Brian was the master of maneuvering heavy machinery, a skill he honed in his teenage years alongside his father and brothers, shaping the Maine landscape with A.E. McQuade & Sons construction company. He played an integral part in other family ventures as Plant Manager of Clipper Snack Foods and in the pro-shop at Mars Hill Country Club where he loved wheeling & dealing golf equipment.
Wanting to take a swing at his own business he started B.H. McQuade Trucking but home with family was where his heart was, and he went back to his passion of operating heavy equipment at BKB and Boralex before landing at P.I. Airport snow blowing runways and occasionally running over runway lights. He also enjoyed being active in the community as a volunteer of the Mars Hill Fire Dept. and coached rec. basketball in Mars Hill as well as leading the CAHS golf team to a state-runner up finish in 1994.
In his spare time, he pursued his private pilot license, racing snowmobiles, bomber cars, mens softball, golf, hockey, tried his hand at horses, boating, tractors, tuning dirt bikes for his son Travis, and riding Harleys with his family, his wife, or was always tinkering on something in the barn. As grandkids started arriving into his life, Grampy & Mimi were always finding ways to create memories and spoil them and he cherished seeing them smile & laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Allyson (Tweedie) McQuade and three children Tory (McQuade) Bernard, her husband Scott and 3 kids (Gavin, Reagan, and Tanner) of Dover, NH, Brian H. McQuade Jr. (BJ) his wife Melissa and 3 kids (Lainey, Barrett, and Patton) of Adams, TN and Travis E. McQuade, his wife Cassie and their daughter Addison of Pompano Beach, FL. He also leaves behind his brothers Blake, Dana, and Ross McQuade, their wives (Tina, Alice, and Anne) as well as many cherished Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, and Nephews.
Donations in his memory can be made to Mars Hill Fire Department and the family would like to thank all compassionate caregivers and facilities that allowed Brian to extend his life so that he could spend more time with his family. Relatives and friends are invited to call 12:00 PM Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Old Fashion Revival Center in Blaine, where a service will be conducted at 1:00 PM, with the Rev. Mark Carter officiating. The family asks that you please join them at the Mars Hill Country Club for a time of reception and remembrance, immediately following the service. Steven Mark Whited - July 13, 1953 - August 02, 2023

Departed: 08/02/2023 (Mars Hill)
Obituary Preview: Bridgewater - On August 2nd, 2023, Steven M. Whited went to be with the Lord after his brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and had the privilege of leaving this world, sitting by the window at home, watching the sunrise on his farm one last time. His last days were spent listening to country music, hearing the sprayers buzz by the house, and looking into the eyes of those who loved him the most.
He was born in Houlton July 13, 1953, the son of Robert B. and Edwena (Sirois) Whited. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Joy A. (Cain) Whited and his mother Edwena. His son Frederick and his wife Rachel. His daughter Erin and her husband Dana Johnson, and his grandchildren Nicole Cadell, Anicia, Ava, and William Whited, and Denver and Libby Johnson. Also surviving him are brother Robert A. Whited and wife Pegi, his 3 sisters and their husbands, Nancy and Rick Duncan, Mary Whited and Tom McKeon, and Susan and Rusty Pillsbury. His two sister’s in-law and their husbands Anne and Wayne Prosser, and Kelly Cain and Darren Craswell, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Robert; in-laws Clarence and Kaye Cain, brother-in-law Lee Cain, and nephew Nate Brigham.
He was called Dad, Gramp, Uncle TT, Wonder Pup, and Wolf. He loved the people that called him so. He was grateful to be the 5th generation to successfully farm the land in Bridgewater, which he proudly called Whited Farms. He never stopped checking the fields and watching the final product go out the door. While managing his family farm, he was a member of the Maine Potato Board, Seed Board, and National Potato Council. He was most proud of becoming Farm Family of the Year in 2017.
Steven enjoyed many other things in life that were simple yet provided him with everything that he ever wanted. For years, his second home was a green school bus at #9 Lake. He then moved to a camp in Harvey Siding and eventually built the camp of his dreams back at #9 Lake where he enjoyed the solitude, the company of a beagle, and laughing with his closest friends. He lived for a snowmobile ride in Canada, bird hunting with his daughter, fishing and hunting with his grandchildren, and shooting big bucks at #9 stream. His love for the outdoors carried over into him being a whitewater rafting guide on the Penobscot River for New England Whitewater. Steven loved the game of basketball, playing the game in his younger years, watching local teams compete, but most of all, chasing the game up and down the court as a long-time high school referee.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Aroostook House of Comfort, as well as the in-home care provided by Northern Light Home Care and Hospice. Thanks to everyone at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. A special thanks to Shelby Stiles for coming to the house and helping us make sense of the process. Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased, preserving their memory and legacy.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or newspaper may assist with writing the obituary or provide guidance on what information to include.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. It may also include information about memorial services, donations in lieu of flowers, and other relevant details.
