Marsha, nicknamed Midge, passed away peacefully after a courageous struggle with Parkinson’s Disease and Dementia.

Midge was born in West Virginia then moved to Ohio and, as an adult, she moved to California. She met and married Jack Pope, deceased, and helped raise his three children.

She was an excellent quilter, an adept decorator of her homes in Walnut, Temecula, and Santa Maria, CA. She travelled to visit relatives, sometimes with her sister Dee, brother George, or nieces and nephews. One of her favorite trips was to Costa Rica. She also enjoyed walking and golfing.

She worked for Von’s Corporate Office in L.A. for many years.

Even though she fought a difficult battle with dementia there is joy knowing that Midge is free from the struggles of earth, she will be deeply grieved by her family. Enjoy your eternity, Midge; we will meet you in Heaven someday.

Dianne was born on April 1st 1959, in Torrance, CA to Kathryn (Joan) and Raymond Slick.

On April 23rd, Dianne entered into Glory and saw her Savior, Christ Jesus, face to face. Her husband John and daughter Stephanie, were able to be at her side.

Dianne was the most loving, kindest, caring person, that you would ever meet. Her smile and sweet spirit, would fill up a room.

Dianne worked for 35 years for Dr. Marshall Humes and then for Dr. Anthony Pitrowski. She worked very hard for many years. After working at the Doctors office during the day she would go to work at the Elks Lodge 1538 on Monday nights, special occasions, and the weekends as a waitress.

Dianne loved playing softball and was the pitcher on her teams. She also loved taking care of her plants. Her living room and patio room are full of plants that she started from cuttings. She definitely had a green thumb and it was her way of relaxing. Because she was always on the move doing something. She loved the outdoors, going on hikes and long walks, kayaking, going to the beach, and going on camping trips in her trailer.

Dianne was very active in the fellowship at Calvary Chapel, Santa Maria. She participated in the Coffee Shop Ministry where she prepared coffee and snacks for the congregation for 10 years. She was an active member of the Women’s Ministry. She also prayed for people as a member of the Courtside Ministry. Some of the people entering the courthouse were facing very dark and difficult times. She prayed for them and told them of the hope and promises that Jesus had to offer.

Dianne’s greatest ambition later in life was to become a Biblical Counselor. She completed the first half of the certification process, and was able to mentor a few women.

Her Spirit of worship was something to behold. When she worshipped the Lord, she was at total peace you could see the Holy Spirit consuming her. Dianne’s favorite bible verse is Psalm 139: 13-14 KJV (which was her favorite bible translation). 13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

She is loved, and will be missed by many. Until we meet again

A Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Chapel, Santa Maria on May 18th at 11am.

Dr. John Augustine Silva, DVM - June 30, 1949 - April 20, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dr. John Augustine Silva, DVM, esteemed large animal veterinarian, diehard cowboy, devoted friend, mentor, and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, died on Saturday, April 20, 2024, in Santa Maria, California, less than two weeks after receiving an unexpected cancer diagnosis. He was 74.

John was born and raised in Santa Maria. He attended Saint Mary’s Catholic School and Santa Maria High School where he was excellent student and very active in 4-H and FFA. During senior year, he was an offensive lineman for the Saints until he was injured.

In fall of 1967, he drove his Ford Mustang to UC Davis to begin his freshman year as a Pre-Veterinary Medicine major. He was a walk-on for the Aggies JV football team as a defensive lineman. The highlight of that season was playing against the San Quentin Striped Eagles—obviously a home game for the Eagles! He rushed Phi Delta Theta fraternity, but ultimately decided that fraternity life was not for him. During that first year at Davis, John met Roberta (Bobbie) Kidd. They married in June 1968 and welcomed their daughter, Raquel Marie in 1969.

After graduation, John obtained his teaching credential and the family moved to Sonora, California, where he taught high school Agricultural and was the FFA Advisor at Sonora High School. In 1973, John finally realized his dream and was accepted to UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. The family returned to Davis, but the following year, John and Roberta ended their marriage.

During vet school, John met Jacquelyn York. They married and welcomed two daughters, Megan Ann and Kylie Erin. In 1977, after John finished vet school, the family moved back to Santa Maria where he opened Los Padres Veterinary Hospital with fellow classmate, Dr. Donald Martinucci. He remained a partner with Dr. Martinucci for a few years until he realized that he wanted to focus solely on large animal veterinary medicine. While in Santa Maria, he and Jackie ended their marriage.

John met Martha Christner in Santa Maria and they eventually married and welcomed two daughters, Lindsay Raye and Kacie Lynn. Their family lived in Fresno and later Salinas/Monterey where John continued to practice large animal veterinary medicine and where he also worked for the Monterey ASPCA spay and neuter program. Martha and John eventually ended their marriage.

John moved again to Hanford and practiced large animal veterinary medicine in the central valley. While in Handford, he and Lucinda (Cindy) Caudill built their relationship and combined their families. They both shared a great love of rodeo and horses and had a true cowgirl/cowboy partnership. They married and purchased their ranch In Paso Robles in the 90s. In 2002, John and Cindy welcomed their son, Antonio Augustine.

John never retired from veterinary medicine. Up until his passing, he was running a thriving business providing custom vaccines to cattle ranches in California, Texas, and New Mexico. He also selflessly gave his time and expertise to mentor numerous ranchers, cattlemen/women, and vet students.

John loved all the best things in life—delicious food, beautiful wines and whiskies, fine meals eaten outside by the sea, top-notch service, traveling first class, and quality cowboy clothes, boots, and hats.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio A. Silva and Maria P. Silva, both originally from Pico, Azores, Portugal. John is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lucinda, his children, Raquel, Megan, Kylie, Lindsay, Kacie, and Antonio, and his step-children, Margie Rodriguez and Steven Rodriguez. He is also survived by his sisters, Maria Mead (Charles) and Louisa Cuthbert (Lorin), and his aunt, Maria Ema Pereira Menezes Machado (age 100) of Sintra, Portugal. John was blessed with many grandchildren, Kennedy, Eli, Rhett, Mia, Fox, Ruben, Penelope, Lyela, and Sofia, as well as numerous nephews, a niece, and multiple cousins both in the United States and Portugal.

The family will hold services for John in Santa Maria, California. On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, there will be family visitation at 5:00 PM, and a rosary at 6:00 PM at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary located at 1003 East Stowell Rd., Santa Maria, CA.

On Thursday, May 9, 2024, there will be a Funeral Mass and Service at 10:00 AM at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, located at 1190 E. Clark Ave., Santa Maria, CA. Following the Mass and Service, there will be a Reception and Wake at 12:30 PM at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge #1538 located at 1309 N. Bradley Rd., Santa Maria, CA.

Joseph Simon Ontiveros - July 08, 1969 - April 14, 2024

Obituary Preview: On Sunday, April 14, 2024, our Lord wrapped his loving arms around Joseph Simon Ontiveros, ended his many years of pain and suffering, and carried him to heaven where he was greeted by the beautiful smile of his precious baby boy and the warm embrace of his beloved mother.

Joseph was born on July 8, 1969, in Santa Maria, California. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Santa Maria High School. After high school, Joseph joined the Navy. He proudly and bravely risked his life serving as a Navy medic, rendering life-saving medical care to the brave men and women fighting on the front lines of the Gulf War in Operation Desert Storm, at times having to take up arms and fight on the front lines himself.

After Joseph’s honorable discharge from the Navy, he married his wife, Stephanie. Together they created a beautiful life and a loving home for their children Joseph, Matthew, and Vanessa. Joseph continued his medical career working as a nurse for 23 years, until the injuries he sustained during his military service took their toll on him both physically and mentally and he was ultimately forced to take a disability retirement.

Joseph loved life and lived it to the fullest. He loved spending time with family and friends. His favorite pastime was watching sports with a cold beer. He loved the Lakers, the Dodgers, and the LA Kings, but his greatest love, after his family, was the Raiders. He was a proud member of the Raider Nation. Joseph watched every game, every season, for all of his adult life. He attended games as often as he could with as many friends and family as he could get to attend with him. When he couldn’t watch the game in person, he made sure game-day barbecues each week were as enjoyable as a tailgate party at the stadium.

Joseph considered himself blessed to have such a large and loving family. Joseph’s love of his family and friends is truly what defined him and is what all who loved him will miss the most. He was a dutiful son who loved and adored his parents. He was a proud father who loved his children with all that he had inside. His heart belonged to them, whether they were near or far. Joseph was a loving brother who treasured his brothers and sisters and held a deep respect for them. He was an affectionate and caring uncle and godfather, and he was a loyal friend who cherished the many lifelong friendships he had.

Joseph was preceded in death by his baby boy, his mother Marcella Ontiveros, his sister Sofia Ontiveros, his cousin Steve Quinonez, and several other beloved family members.

Joseph is survived in life by his father, Fred Ontiveros, his sons Joseph Ontiveros and Matthew Ontiveros, his daughter Vanessa Ontiveros (Tiv), his granddaughters Marcella and Evelyn Ek, and his wife Stephanie Ontiveros; his sisters Isabel and Angelina Ontiveros, Theresa Estorga (Lawrence), and his brothers Mario, Freddie, and Thomas Ontiveros (Letty); his godchildren Thomas Ontiveros Jr., Brianna Ontiveros, Savannah Bautista, Jorge Fernandez, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Viewing will be on Monday, April 29, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 5:30 p.m., at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, 1003 E. Stowell Rd., Santa Maria. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 414 E. Church St., Santa Maria.

A celebration in honor of Joseph’s life will take place following the mass.

Leo “Cy” Bailey, a longtime Santa Maria resident passed away April 11, 2024. Leo was born November 1, 1925, in Iowa to Cyrus and Alice (Dunn) Bailey. He graduated from Leeds High School, in Leeds Iowa. Served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater during World War 2. After his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, he attended and received his bachelor’s degree at Morningside University in Souix City, Iowa.

In 1947, Leo married the love of his life Bonnie Holdcroft. He was selected as a FBI Special Agent 1951, and was assigned to duty stations in various parts of the U.S. In 1960, Leo was assigned to the FBI Santa Maria office. He and his family lived on the Central Coast ever since. He retired from the FBI in 1978 after 27 years of meritorious service.

Leo was a very dedicated family man who was very active in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted parishioner of the Catholic church, a member of the Santa Maria Elks, Retired FBI Association, and the Santa Maria Country Club where he enjoyed golfing.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie (2010) and two children: Becky J. Strawhun (2001) and William M. Bailey (2008). He is survived by three grandchildren, grandson Brian Bailey of Louisiana, grandson Corey Cy Strawhun, and granddaughter Ashley Hoober of Phoenix, AZ area. He has four, soon to be five great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held in the Chapel of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary Friday, April 26, 2024, 9:00 a.m. Rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m. with scripture readings at 10:30 a.m. A burial will immediately follow at Santa Maria Cemetery.

Sofia Cantú, 88 of Santa Maria passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024 peacefully in her home. She was born on December 22, 1935 in La Hacienda del Carrizo, Los Ramones, Nuevo León, México to Canuto Peña & Isidra de la Cerda Villarreal. She was the youngest of 14 children.

Sofia met the love of her life, Antonio, in 1951 whom she later married on April 26, 1953. In 1954, they moved to Oso Flaco, CA and as of 1968 permanently made Santa Maria, California, their home. She worked at several farms harvesting strawberries as well as local packing sheds including John Ingles Frozen Foods until 1973.

She was very caring, always finding ways to support her immediate and extended family wherever they resided. She enjoyed family gatherings, BBQ's, traveling and spending time with her family and friends. Amid her physical challenges, Sofia was an inspiration to all striving to serve Jehovah God by her immovable faith and unwavering conviction of his promises to reunite her with her loved ones.

Sofia was preceded in death by her parents: Canuto Peña & Isidra de la Cerda Villarreal, 12 siblings, her loving daughter, Anna Maria Piñon, and her husband Macario Antonio Cantú.

She is survived by her son, Marco Cantú and wife Vilma of Nipomo, Ca, daughter, Sandra Cantú (Gutiérrez) and son, Alberto Cantú both of Santa María, Ca, 3 Grandsons : Juan Cantú, Alfredo Cavazos and Jonathan Cantú, 8 Granddaughters :Anna María Del Rio, Andrea Lee, April Toledo, Myra Pérez, Monique Gutiérrez, Michelle Gutiérrez, Maricsa Cantú and Ezmeralda Cantú Smith, 13 Great GrandChildren as well as her brother Claudio Peña (101), numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends.

Sofia, a devoted wife, wonderful mother, loving grandmother and friend will be missed dearly. Her family awaits the day they will see her again in the resurrection.

Public viewing will be on Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 5:30-7 p.m., with a service beginning at 6:00 p.m.at Dudley Hoffman Mortuary on Stowell Road in Santa Maria, Ca., followed by graveside services on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the Santa Maria Cemetery.

Stanley M. Domingues - May 31, 1955 - April 03, 2024

Obituary Preview: Stanley Michael Domingues, 68, of Santa Maria, CA passed away on April 3rd, 2024. Stan was born in Santa Maria, CA on May 31st, 1955. Growing up, Stan attended St. Mary’s School and Santa Maria High School. Stan was a captain of the 1972 CIF runner-up Santa Maria Saints football team.

After high school, Stan attended Allan Hancock College where he continued to play football. He would get his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Stanley worked as an accountant for JB Dewar then later doing accounting for Santa Maria Public Airport District Office.

Stan loved barbecuing, playing golf and anything related to sports. He was a respected sports official, officiating baseball, basketball, and football at all levels from youth to junior college. Stan was on multiple CIF and California Junior College playoff officiating crews. He golfed every opportunity he could find and was always on the BBQ pit at family functions.

Stanley is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cynthia Domingues; children Carlie, Justin and Travis Domingues; granddaughter Sonora Victoria Domingues-Razo; mother Eleanor Domingues; two sisters Marie Domingues and Gina (and George) Luna; six brothers Kenny (and Dehlia), Steve (and Jeanette), Mark, Tim (and Kim), Dairen (and Vicki) and Clifford Domingues; mother-in-law Hilda Cardiel and dog Dodger.

Stanley was preceded in death by his father Stanley Domingues; Aunt Irene Rodrigues; sister Elaine Domingues; father-in-law Victor Cardiel; brother-in-law Mark Cardiel and sister-in-law Vivian Cardiel.

There will be a memorial mass at St. Louis De Montfort Church at 12pm on Thursday, April 11th. A celebration of life will follow at 1239 Highway 1, Santa Maria, CA 93455. The family asks that you wear your favorite sports jersey or gear to all events in Stanley’s honor. LA Dodger gear is highly encouraged.

Esther Harriet Pressey Moon - February 16, 1938 - April 03, 2024

Obituary Preview: Esther H. Moon, 86, of Santa Maria, CA passed away on April 3, 2024.

Esther was born in South Gate, California. At an early age she moved to a small nearby town of Cudahay. She attended Elizabeth Street School, though the sixth grade. She attended Bell High School in the City of Bell until her graduation in 1956. She also attended California State College in Dominquez Hills, California.

Esther went into banking a few months after graduation. It was during Esther's banking career that she met her husband in 1964. De Los passed away while on a trip to visit his sister in Utah in the year 1976.

She left banking some twenty-one years later and entered the wholesale jewelry industry. With the owner of the jewelry company, she traveled up and down the California Coast and even to Seattle, Houston, and Dallas. She then left the jewelry industry after another twenty years there. The next employment was working for two equine veterinarians in the San Fernando Valley and moving to Sylmar, CA. In the year 2000, Esther moved to Santa Maria on the Central Coast and was self-employed in Accounting and Business Management.

After getting established on the Central Coast, she joined the local Episcopal Church and began to sing in their choir. The choir began to slip in numbers and our Rector decided that we didn't have enough singers to support the organist. I had a new friend whom I met through Coastal Voices, a community choir. Kathy Sue said, “Why don't you come join our United Methodist Choir?” Since I was now working for the United Methodist as their bookkeeper, I joined their choir.

My new friend, Kathy Sue, was a strong individual, smart and guided me in a warm, loving and kind direction, especially in my faith. I have met many mentors in my life but none that brought love, joy, and perfect direction on my journey through life. Kathy Sue was such a sister in Christ with compassion and caring for many. The same can be said for Garry and Sherry Grant who mentored me in California after Kathy Sue moved back home to Arkansas.

In her spare time, Esther loved to write. She also was very active in singing in church choirs and local secular choirs. She also loved the various ministries of the Episcopal Church Women. She was active in the parish, the Deaneries nod at the Diocesan level.

Her greatest joy was when she was awarded the “Angel” award from the ECW Diocesan Board of the Episcopal Church. This was for her writing of the Episcopal Church Women Diocesan newsletter called “Angels on the Go”. The newsletter also received a fist place at one of our national conventions and second place at a subsequent national convention.

Esther continued to write and had many articles published.

Esther was preceded in death of her father John E. Pressey, Sr., her mother Marion M. Perkey, her husband, De Los Moon, sister Elizabeth L. Foster, and Niece, Elizabeth Marion “Beth” Pressey and brother John E. Pressey Jr.

Esther is survived by brother, the Rt. Rev. David E. Pressey (Elizabeth), sister-in-law Nancy Pressey, great niece, Elise Ann (Tommy) Ross, great-great niece Brianna E. Ross, Nephew, James D. Pressey (Shirley), Nephew James M. Pressey (Janice) Niece, Ruth Pressey, Nephew, Barry J. Foster and numerous great-nieces and nephews. And within my family, I will choose dear and close friends, Katherine Sue Phillips and Garry and Sherry Grant.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew United Methodist Church at 3925 S. Bradley Road, Santa Maria, CA 93455. The service will be done on Saturday May 4, 2024, at four P.M. in the afternoon. One of the family members, Elise Ross or the Rev. Edward D. Pressey will take the remains with them to Ventura CA. Interment will be at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura, CA 93003. This will be done at a later date by the Rev. Edward D. Pressey and family members.

Ernest "Ernie" V. Baldiviez - January 22, 1942 - April 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: Faith, family and friends were the foundation of the life of Ernest “Ernie” V. Baldiviez, born in Santa Maria on January 22, 1942, to Rosario and Reyes (Vega) Baldiviez. He attended Bonita and St. Mary of the Assumption elementary schools, Santa Maria High School with the Class of 1960 and graduated from Allan Hancock College with two associate degrees. Ernie met the love of his life, Josephine “Josie” Dominguez in 1959 and they were married September 4th, 1965. He proudly served in the United States Army for three years and continued to be involved with the local Mid-Coast Veterans Alliance.

Ernie and Josie started a family with Angelina in 1966, followed by Carolyn in 1969 and Ernest “Net” in 1970. During their young married life, Ernie worked for Knudsen Dairy and reveled in being a dad, coach and volunteer. Outside of work, Ernie loved to BBQ and could often be found behind the pit with his crew of family and friends as he shared his time and BBQ expertise. His famous BBQ chicken lives on through many he taught over the years. Ernie was an active dad coaching football, baseball, and softball. As a coach of St. Joseph High School, he led his team to back to back CIF softball championships in 1987 and 1988. He continued to be recognized by his players throughout his life, who often approached him and thanked him for his care and dedication as a mentor and leader for several generations of young people.

After 35 years with Knudsen, Ernie retired to be a “grandpa-nanny.” He doted on his grandchildren Sadie Rey (Miller) Veglia, Maddie Jo Miller, Caitlyn Martinez, Noah Martinez and Charlotte Baldiviez. Ernie was deeply loved by his grandchildren and was a second dad to all of them. He was their biggest fan and so proud of their accomplishments as they graduated from high school and college, pursued education in their chosen fields and became kind and loving people, which to him, was the most important gift of all. He was so proud and felt lucky enough to see Sadie get married and welcome her husband, Richie, his new grandson, into the family. The sudden losses of his son, Net in 2012, and son-in-law, Chuck in 2020, profoundly affected all of their lives, but the strong faith and family commitment upon which he built his family was the foundation that sustained them through these devastating losses. Ernie continues to be an inspiration to the family he leaves behind, including his wife; Josie, his children; Angelina Miller and Dr. Carolyn Baldiviez, son-in-law, Vincent Martinez and daughter-in-law, Lisa Horst Baldiviez, his grandchildren; Charlotte, Sadie, Richie, Caitlyn, Noah, and Maddie, his siblings; Hermie, Alice, and Ralph, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Net, his brother, Joe, and son-in-law, Chuck Miller.

Ernie was known to be the “rock” that his family relied upon for love and support. He was always willing to help others and lived a life of service and love. He was the benevolent patriarch of his large extended family, and people inside and outside of the family embraced his wisdom and empathy. So many have shared their personal stories of Ernie in which he was looked to as a great example of a husband and father as well as a confidant offering his insightful words and guidance and most importantly, his love.

Ernie passed peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, having been surrounded by his loving family and friends for several days. He was lovingly cared for in the last year of his life, by caregiver, Joel Anglo, who became a member of the Baldiviez family.

Obituary Preview: Frank Serrano Lopez, a lifelong resident of Santa Maria, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the age of seventy-four. He is survived by his brother Albert Lopez (Debbie) of San Jose, his sister Lisa Rossi (Steven) of Palm Springs, two daughters, Melissa Lopez of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Melanie Lopez, of Santa Maria, niece Rachel Hertz (Mark) of Bend, Oregon, nephew Brooks Lopez (Erica) of Morgan Hill, 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and five great nieces and nephews. He was previously married to his high school sweetheart, the late Alice Machado Kelly. He is also survived by his faithful canine companion Bojangles (Bogey), who was his constant support. He is preceded in passing by his father, Fabian Lopez, and his mother, Concha Lopez.

Frank attended Santa Maria High School and graduated with the class of 1968. The first of his family to attend college, Frank studied Physical Education at Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo. Frank dedicated his professional life to social services serving as vocational counselor specialist, a crisis consultant and case manager. The highlight of Franks career was the work he did with Santa Maria Valley Youth and Family, working as Outreach Consultant/Crisis Counselor at El Camino Junior High School serving at-risk teens and their families. He often partnered with Santa Maria Police Department, County Probation, and the school district. His work was often honored by local agencies and service groups, and he was often recognized while out in the community by former students who thanked him for guiding them to the right path. Frank retired due to health concerns but was able to put his energy into caring for his mother during her last years and maintaining the family home.

Frank’s legacy was his witty humor, his unwavering commitment to his family’s well-being and deep affection for his grandchildren, particularly his cherished “princess” Reyna. At one time his acoustic guitar performances were a highlight at family events, where he’d often serenade loved ones with a tune. A master of the traditional Santa Maria barbecue, Frank took great pleasure in teaching his culinary skills to family members and having impromptu barbecues in his backyard for family and friends.

A private celebration of Frank's life is being planned for family and close friends for early this summer. In memory of Frank’s life, donations can be made to the Santa Barbara Humane Society or Dignity Health Hospice Services.

Larry Harlow, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather joined the Lord and his beloved wife Lois on their 69th Wedding Anniversary on March 26, 2024.

Larry was born to Minnie and Ralph Harlow on January 28, 1933, in Denver, Colorado. He moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico as a young boy and met the love of his life, Lois, in high school.

Larry served in the Air Force from 1955-1963. His dream of being a pilot was not possible due to his eyesight. He did however become an Engineer instructor during his Air Force tenure. His Air Force career took him to Florida, Massachusetts, and Colorado.

Larry and Lois were married on March 26, 1955, and moved their young family to Santa Maria in 1961. Larry took a job in a civilian position as an Engineer at Vandenberg Air Force Base. He would later earn his bachelor’s degree from Chapman University.

Larry and Lois were members of Grace Lutheran Church since 1961. He loved Jesus and was led to the Lord by a pastor in Santa Fe as a young teen. He served as the Church President and was the Senior Head Elder for many years. Larry loved getting to church early to turn on the heater and get the coffee going. He looked forward to Sundays to visit with friends. Larry was described by his family as “kind, patient, supportive, gentle, family man, sports lover, very intelligent, amazing husband, father and Papa”. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid walker. Additionally, he was a die-hard Dodger fan and attended 100’s of sporting events supporting his family. He was proud of his family who loved seeing his children and grandchildren pursue their dreams! He enjoyed investing in the stock markets but took greater joy in his $2 football bets with his buddies!

He is survived by his children Larry Harlow Jr. and wife Cathy, Lori Kelly, Lee Harlow and fiancé Leticia Talley and Layne Harlow. Known as Papa, his grandchildren include Jason Kelly and wife Tracy, Breanna Burton and husband Justin, Dustin Kelly and wife Jessica, Kristen Johnson and husband Kris Hickey, Nick Harlow and wife Kayla and Lindsey Kelly. Survivors also include his Santa Fe family, brother-in-law and good friend Ormonde Earp, along with numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by great grandchildren Peyton and Cade Kelly, Gracin, Brooks and Hadley Burton, Cash, Vaughn and Ace Kelly, Evelynn and Cate Hickey and Jackson and Sadie Harlow.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lois in 2022, brother Don Harlow and sister Carol Murphy.

He was pre-deceased by his son Scott K. Gomes, and his sister Pamela Gomes-St. Aubin. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane, two grandsons, Cameron and Carson, daughter-in-law, Esther, his aunt, Mickey Freeman, his brother, Michael (Leslie), niece, Lauren and nephew, Adam (Ginny), niece, Kelley, (Buddy Allain) and their son Zackary.

He was a respected general contractor, a member of the Police Council, an active member of the local Friends of NRA, and a board member and a founding member of the Chimineas Ranch Foundation where he organized youth hunts and helped maintain the ranch facility.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a tremendous love of the outdoors.

A celebration mass will be held at St. Luis De Montfort on Wednesday, April 10 at 1:30 p.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow the service.

Our family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Rory Michael Drummond, 49, of Orcutt, Ca. The Lord has called him Home to be with his Mother, Grandmother and Grandfather.

Growing up in the small town of Old Orcutt Rory made many friends. He was known for dubbing everyone with quirky nicknames. No one went by their given name around "Roar".

He had a gift of making people laugh. Rory comes from a big family and built a large circle of friends in the motorcycle and surf community.

Rory was a plumber by trade. His hobbies were old cars, remote-controlled airplanes and drones. He enjoyed a good motorcycle ride with friends and skateboarding. His happiest times were taking trips down to Laguna Beach to visit his son Max. He also loved being around and part of Oliver "Ollie" McEachrons world. He called him "Little Guy".

Rory is preceded in death by his mother, Cathy L Drummond, his grandparents John A Green and Martha L Green. His Aunt Christy L. Rotell.

Rory is survived by his best friend and mother of his son Mikala "Shawnee" Brown. His son Max Zion Drummond and step-daughter Schuyler Katelynn Brown. He is also survived by his father Michael S Drummond. His Aunts Cindy Casebolt, Connie Green, Cheryl Kee and Uncles Jay Green and Andy Green along with 36 cousins.

Carmen Mendoza Farias was born on October 29, 1932 in Los Reyes, Michoacán, Mexico, to Jesus Mendoza and Ana Maria Mendoza Lua. She was the third oldest of her 12 siblings. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Alvaro Farias, who died January 5, 2019, a son that died in infancy, her mother, father, her eldest sister and 5 brothers.

Carmen married Ruben Farias on September 1, 1954. They had four children, Alicia (Ramiro) Jacinto, Ruben (Rose) Farias and Martha (Joe) Beltran and a son who died in infancy.

Carmen migrated from Mexico to California in 1962 with her husband and two young children, ages 1 and 5 years old. She initially found life very difficult due to their arrival occurring during the 1962-63 recession. This made it difficult for her husband, a cement mason, to find work. Her first residence in the United States was a tiny house in the rural Nipomo Mesa area. Carmen felt very home sick and isolated because she found it difficult to assimilate to a new culture and did not speak the language. Her friend and neighbor Anita Guizar, whom she knew from Mexico, offered her salvation during this difficult time. After a couple of years Carmen and her family moved to Guadalupe and then later to Santa Maria. After a few years her husband, Ruben, joined the Cement Mason Union, which allowed the family's financial situation to improve, later enabling them to purchase their first home in Santa Maria. With the support of Carmen, her husband later started his own company, R.F. Concrete, and Carmen worked for several years in the strawberry fields to help support her family, which enabled them to send their kids to college. At the time of her husband's death they owned three homes in Santa Maria.

Carmen loved to garden, knit, crochet, cook and enjoyed visits from her family, especially her grandchildren, Crystela (Aaron), Ninfa (Matt), Andrea (Luis), Diana (Daniel), Adrian, step-granddaughter Lexi and her great-grandchildren, Isaac, Jayce, Isla and Liam.

Carmen never got over the loss of her husband of more than 65 years and her mental and physical health declined. She died surrounded by her family at the age of 91 at Marian Hospital. She leaves behind 3 children, 5 grandchildren 1 step-granddaughter and 4 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Zoraida Huitron, her caregiver, for her loving care of our mother and Anita Guizar, who remained a loyal friend to the end.

Lois Poltl entered peacefully into the heavenly kingdom of her Lord on March 23, lifted up by the prayers of family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman, who shared 69 years of devotion and marriage with Lois. She is survived by her six children - Michael Poltl (Adele), Susan Poltl, James Poltl (Ann), Randy Poltl, Timothy Poltl (Johnna) and Therese Noe (Ken). Grandma “Lulu” is also lovingly remembered by 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

A resident of Santa Maria since 1987, Lois was an ever-present parishioner of St. Louis de Montfort Church. A member of the Legion of Mary and Magnificat, she is remembered for leading a rosary prayer group before morning Mass. Lois also was devoted to the Holy Eucharist, sharing countless hours in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at SLDM and St. Joseph High School. She received the St. Louis de Montfort Service Recognition Award in 2015 and was also honored with the Spirit of St. Joseph Award in 2019.

Born on a farm in Baker, Minnesota as one of eight children, Lois moved in 1942 to Southern California. Sharing a residence near the beach with two sisters she soon found work in a factory to support America during World War II. There she met Herman, the love of her life, and was married at 19. Family life began in Compton and then shifted to Van Nuys in the San Fernando Valley, where the Poltls lived until moving to northern Santa Barbara County and their retirement years in Santa Maria.

In recent summers, the extended family has gathered in Lois’ beautifully flowered backyard to celebrate her life. She will be lovingly remembered this June 5th on the anniversary of her 100th birthday.

A funeral Mass for Lois was celebrated March 27 at St. Louis de Montfort Church by Father Philip Sutherland, her grandson.

Marilyn Attebury - October 04, 1938 - March 22, 2024

Obituary Preview: Marilyn Attebury passed away peacefully from a very short battle with lung cancer.

She was handed off to our Lord Jesus with her last surviving son, Tim and his wife Maureen by her side holding her hand. Marilyn was 85.

Born in Ogden, Utah in 1938. Shortly after, Marilyn and her parents moved to southern California and eventually settling in Monterey, CA. Marilyn spent the next 77 years in the Monterey, Pacific Grove, and Salinas area. Marilyn became a wife and a Mother at a very young age of 16. She had 5 children (all boys) with her husband Warren. Two children were sadly full-term still births.

Marilyn is preceded by death by her husband, Warren of 58 years (2012), Her Son Ted, (2003), and her oldest son, Richard (2017). Marilyn is also preceded in death by all three of her siblings, Duane, Elane, and Dale. Marilyn was the oldest.

Marilyn is survived by her youngest son, Tim (Maureen), 9 grandchildren and 8 great­ grandchildren. Marilyn was a fabulous homemaker with a passion for interior design. Her homes were cleaner than a hospital room and looked like it should be in the Better Homes & Garden magazine. Us kids were always proud to bring our friends over after school!

At retirement age, Marilyn and her husband took on a new venture in Antique collecting. This was Marilyn's passion for the next 30 plus years until her death. Needless to say, her house was transformed into a home you would see in the mid-19th Century. It was amazingly beautiful and historical. She could have opened her house as a museum and sold tickets.

Though Marilyn was very talented and wise in many areas, there was one thing she did best over everything else, and that was being a Mother. Her sons were Marilyn's number one priority. Her sons were second to none, even to her husband. As a 16-year-old mother would depict a hard tough life, well, it was for Marilyn, very tough. But she never ever gave up and always provided the best she could and always did an amazing job no matter the circumstances.

Marilyn moved to Santa Maria in 2017 to be near her son Tim to live out the rest of her golden years.

Her infectious personality knew no bounds, as she embraced each person she met as a friend, never knowing a stranger. Throughout her life, Rafaela exemplified resilience and compassion. Her unwavering spirit and determination were evident in her courageous battle against cancer. Despite the challenges she faced, she remained a source of light and love to all who knew her. Rafaela's dedication to her family, faith, and community was unparalleled. For over 30 years, she devoted herself to serving others at Vandenberg Air Force Base with the 30th Medical Group, leaving an indelible mark on all those she cared for. Additionally, her years of service at the Local Elks Lodge exemplified her commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

As we mourn Rafaela's passing, we find solace in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved son, Gerardo, who preceded her in death in 2002. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength that will continue to inspire us all. Let us honor her legacy by embracing the values she embodied and spreading love and kindness wherever we go.

Rafaela's memory will be cherished by her son Daniel and his wife Griselda, her grandchildren Camilla, Ceide, and the arrival of baby Gerardo, who will carry her legacy forward. She is also survived by her sisters Guadalupe and Maria, and her brothers Alfonso, Heriberto, Margarito, and Gustavo. In this time of grief, may we find comfort in the cherished memories we shared with Rafaela and in the knowledge that she now rests in eternal peace, dancing among the angels.

Sammy T. Labastida - November 11, 1947 - March 19, 2024

Sammy T. Labastida, 76, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024, surrounded by his family members. He was born on November 11, 1947 to his father, Eustaquio Ted Labastida (a World War II Veteran), and his mother, Ramona Dagar Labastida, in Santa Maria, CA. His parents named him in honor of “Uncle Sam” because Sammy’s birthdate coincided with Armistice Day, now known as Veteran’s Day. Sammy was the eldest of six children which included five brothers and one sister.

Sammy attended St. Mary’s School and Mission Preparatory High School in San Luis Obispo. He continued his college studies at Allan Hancock College where he studied music. His college studies were interrupted by his service in the military. After his military service, Sammy resumed his education at Santa Monica College and Cal State Northridge where he majored in Music.

Sammy’s father had a family farm called Santa Maria Quality Farms. Sammy and his four brothers, worked on the farm from a young age, where they learned the business. When their father retired in 1975, it was only natural for Sammy and his brothers to take over the farm, changing the name to Labastida Bros. Farms. He continued to work as a farmer throughout his career. Later, Sammy and his brothers founded Three Brothers Harvest which provided harvesting resources throughout the valley and in other nearby counties.

In 1968, Sammy entered the United States Army where he received his Basic Training at Fort Ord, CA. He served in the US Army Company A 2d Battalion (Mechanized) 2d Infantry and was deployed to Vietnam during the war from November 1968 to December 1969. He was awarded three Purple Heart medals for injuries he suffered in the Vietnam War and a Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars. Sammy was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class. Later in life, Sammy was reunited with his battalion brothers, and with his family, would frequently travel to their annual reunions in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Sammy had the gift of playing music his entire life. He started playing the piano at the age of eight under the teaching of Patricia Boyd. At thirteen, Sammy was given his first guitar and took guitar lessons from Rex Gallion at Sousa’s Music Shop. He became so proficient playing the guitar that Sammy started a rock music garage band at his parents’ home on Benwiley Ave. in the early 1960’s. Sammy recruited the neighborhood boys who primarily lived on Benwiley Ave. and Alvin Ave. and the garage band was known as the Sharkai’s with Sammy as the lead guitarist, his brother Bobby as the bass player, Ron Cabrera as the rhythm guitarist, Jim Smith as the drummer, Frank Hernandez as the saxophonist and Frank Castillo as the lead singer. The Sharkai’s played at numerous dances throughout the Central Coast, including at the area high schools and the Veteran’s Memorial Hall, and the band also competed in the Battle of the Bands at the Rose Bowl in Pismo Beach. The Sharkai’s inspired other young musicians to create garage bands throughout the Santa Maria Valley.

Due to many of its members entering the military, the Sharkai’s disbanded in 1967. Sammy continued to play guitar and keyboards in various other bands throughout his life including the Just Four, Morning, Sunrize and the Sammy Labastida Jazz Band. When his two sons learned to play music, they joined their father’s band and it became known as the Sammy Labastida Jazz and Sons.

Sammy was a mentor to many musicians because of his musical knowledge and skill. He started teaching piano and guitar and eventually opened a music studio in his home. He taught hundreds of students of all ages throughout the Santa Maria Valley, Lompoc and Vandenberg Village. During the pandemic, Sammy continued to teach music remotely and taught students throughout California. When Sammy’s piano teacher Patricia Boyd retired from teaching music, Ms. Boyd referred her students to Sammy. The best part of learning music from Sammy is how his students’ performances would be influenced by Sammy’s musical style. Sammy’s musical style can still be heard through his many students today.

Sammy met the love of his life, Carol (Real) from Guadalupe, in 1975 and they were married in October 1979. They welcomed their first son, Jason, in 1980 and had their second son, Ryan, in 1982. Sammy and Carol raised their family in Santa Maria where they had a strong commitment to their family and instilled the importance of family values to their sons. They stayed very involved in their sons’ activities in school, sports and music. Sammy took his family on numerous camping and skiing trips, supported his sons’ activities in 4-H, and encouraged his sons to play music. Following in the tradition of his father, Sammy taught his sons the farming business and the family business was passed down to them.

Throughout his life, Sammy pursued various interests, such as, billiard pool playing, trap shooting, downhill skiing, fishing and collecting survivalist gear essentials. He had a passion to cook and he would always experiment with various foods and cooking techniques. Sammy loved to barbeque Santa Maria Style meats and chicken and would prepare meals for family and numerous events; no job was too small. He was a Dodger fan and loved going to Dodger games in Los Angeles with his wife Carol. He was also involved in the Loonanon Pioneers of America, and served as its President for several years.

Sammy is preceded in death by his father, Eustaquio Ted Labastida, and his mother, Ramona Dagar Labastida. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, and his sons, Jason Labastida (Maya) and Ryan Labastida (Maureen) of Santa Maria. He also is survived by his siblings, Bob Labastida, Ron Labastida (Denice) and Clifford Labastida, all of Santa Maria; his sister Teresita Inday Ponticello (Frank) of Las Vegas, Nevada and his brother James Labastida (Diane) of Nipomo, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on April 2 from 5-6 p.m. at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary, with a Rosary Service at 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on April 3, 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church with graveside burial following at Santa Maria Cemetery.

The family of Sammy Labastida extends their heartfelt gratitude to those who took special care and concern over Sammy’s health over the years especially to Dr. Mohammad Arain, the doctors and staff at Marian Regional Medical Center, Marian Extended Care Center, Valley Oaks Post Acute and Davita Central Coast Kidney Center.

He attended Cook Street School, El Camino Jr. High and Santa Maria High School, class of 1953. in high school, he excelled in many sports and was active in student government.

Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sargent in 1956.

Gerald married his high school sweetheart, Anita Nadine Evans, in February 1957. During this year he also started his 38-year career with General Telephone Company of California, from which he retired in 1995. Gerald was also a proud and active member of Communications Workers of America.

Gerald and Nadine settled in Santa Maria and began their family in 1959 with the birth of their son David, followed by the birth of their daughter Nita in 1962.

After the passing of Nadine in 2017, Gerald married his longtime friend Jeanette Pritchard in 2018.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arthur, Melvin and Leland, and sisters Lorraine Bettencourt and Shirley Gunther.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Jeanette Pritchard-Teixeira, of Santa Maria, his son David Teixeira and partner, Kent Davis, of Monterey, CA and daughter Nita Windsor and her husband Brent and granddaughter, Shawna Windsor of Santa Maria. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: Janie Francis (Rynders) Parrish, 90, of Nipomo, passed into heaven on March 8, 2024 peacefully in her home with family by her side, She was predeceased by her husbands, Ron Rynders and Richard Parrish, her sister Agnes (Schallberger) Smith, and daughter Melinda (Rynders) Phillips. She will be missed by sisters Rose (Schallberger) Walsh and Elsie (Schallberger) Elfering, daughter Amie (Rynders) Linscott (Steve), son in law William Phillips, grandchildren Will Phillips, Jeffrey Phillips, Gary Phillips, Becky (Linscott) Houseman (Mitch) and Ron Linscott (Desire), and great-grandchildren Kaylee and Ethan Phillips, as well as many members of extended family and loving friends.

Janie was born August 17,1933 in Sepulveda, CA to Agnes and Sebastian Schallberger. She grew up the proud daughter of Swiss immigrants and enjoyed many Swiss family picnics and reunions that continued into her 80s. Janie graduated from Van Nuys High School where she met a handsome guy with curly hair named Ron and following his Navy service, the two were married. They had two daughters, Melinda and Amie. Soon after the birth of their daughter Melinda, Ron was diagnosed with Polio and after spending nearly a year in the hospital he returned home with the challenge of being confined to a wheelchair. Janie was an amazing support to him and never skipped a beat. She showed us all what true love and devotion looks like. They had a great life together. Ron passed away in 1977.

For a woman in the 1950’s, becoming the breadwinner was no easy feat; but Janie rose to the task, working hard to become a successful realtor and then a broker owning her own office. It is a testament to her kindness, caring and ethics that her business was almost exclusively by referral from her past clients.

In the years that followed, Janie traveled and made friends wherever she went, visiting Alaska and Hawaii. Through mutual friends she met Rich Parrish, a gregarious businessman from Chicago, and the two were married in the fall of 1982. After retiring from her successful tenor in real estate, she and Rich moved to the Central Coast to Blacklake Golf Course. They spent their retirement years golfing and enjoying their grandchildren until Rich passed away in 2012.

Since then, Janie stayed active, taking many trips with Amie and Steve and enjoying family trips to Lake Tahoe. She loved any casino. She took chair yoga and computer classes, and for over 20 years took machine embroidery classes where she made many dear friends. She loved to spend time with her family, and her home was designated the “party house”, hosting countless happy holidays and meals.

Her family loved to joke that Janie could interview the life story out of anyone before they even noticed they shared it, and while it was true, it really just exemplified her kind heart and love of people. She had a sharp wit and a genuine smile - it was impossible to not love her.

Janie lived her 90 years to the fullest, and leaves behind a legacy of love. If you knew her, you were lucky. If you didn't, you missed out. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends and will be remembered by all who knew her as a beautiful, fun, loving person who dealt with life’s challenges with great strength, perseverance, and grace.

On March 7, 2024 at about 4:15 PM, we lost one of the world’s most beautiful souls in her fight with cancer. After an almost 30-year battle her body was just too tired to continue.

Mary was a friend to all she met, and she seemed to never meet a stranger. Her aura glowed so brightly that you couldn't help but be affected by it with every word, hug, cheer of encouragement or story of courage. She inspired many, many people in her 67 years on Earth with her story of determination, barely complaining along the way and always loving each of us. Never shy to tell her story, Mary began powerlifting in the name of breast cancer. She wanted to show the world that just because you are diagnosed with such a horrible condition, you can overcome it and still do anything you set your mind to. She also wanted to bring awareness to breast cancer, letting other people know they weren’t alone in their battle. Mary ended up becoming a seven-time world champion in her gender, age range and weight class; and she did it all naturally with no help from any drugs. She continued working a full-time job, getting her chemo and radiation treatments during her lunch break, then working out at the gym after work. When asked what her inspiration was to keep going, she always answered, “My family, especially my grandchildren. I want them to know there isn’t anything they can’t do in this world. I want to be here to watch them grow up and to make sure they know how much I believe in them, and how much I love them.” Mary is survived by: Her mother, Minerva Dana-Rubcic. Her father-in-law, Lanny Tawzer, Sr. Her husband and best friend of 47 years, Kenny Tawzer. Her daughter, Becky and son-in-law, Kenny Nealey, (grandchildren James (J.D.) and Danaca Stribling). Her son, Lanny and daughter-in-law, Megan Tawzer, (grandchildren Braxton and Sadie Tawzer). Her son, Clay Tawzer. Her sister, Anna Rubcic. Her brother, Mike and sister-in-law, Andra Rubcic, (niece Ariana Rubcic). Her brother, David and sister-in-law Kristi Rubcic, (nephew and niece Robert and Amy Mitchell, (Claire & Tiffany)). She is proceeded in death by her father, Michael Rubcic. Her mother-in-law, Bridgette Tawzer. Her nephew, Luke Rubcic. And many loved ones including grandparents, uncles, aunts and close friends; all who are sure to be excitedly anticipating her arrival with a huge hug at those pearly gates! Dean was the salt of the Earth, and he will be missed forever.

Dean was proceeded in death by his parents, Doyle Thomas Jr., and Nancy Lee Thomas. Frank attended SMHS and excelled in Track and Field. He met the love of his life Donna Lee Lucero in High School and they were married on 12-27-52. They had three sons Douglas (Debbie), Stephen (Alice) and Frankie.

Frank is survived by his sister Suzie Lucero, his three sons, his grandchildren Stevie, Katie (Nick Roy), Tyke (Heather), Taylor (Raymond Estes), Lindsey (Stephen Adams), Brooke, Aaron (Caitlyn) and Francisco. His greatgrandchildren Teely, Ace, Waylon, Jaylee, Knox, Asa, Evee, Juniper and Maddie.

Frank is proceeded in death by his loving wife Donna Lee, his parents John and Patrocinio Salazar, siblings Pete, Joe, Mary Pina and Patsy Reyes, family members Fred Lucero, Rita Salazar, Shirley Salazar, Pete Lucero, Angelica Lucero, Oscar Ferrari and Jacob Pacheco.

Frank worked for the Ford Dealership and hired on as a police officer in 1956. He served his community for just over 31 years retiring as a Lieutenant Detective in 1986 and continued as a chaperone for his many bus trips. He also became a licensed private investigator and practiced up until 2009.

Frank was very involved in the community accumulating many awards. He was a major player in the development and building of the Hagerman Softball Complex. He loved playing sports and watching his children and grandchildren play sports and rodeo. He coached the SMPOA “Heat” Softball Team and coordinated many law enforcement and city softball tournaments. Frank was well known as a generous man and a friend to all. To this day he is known as the “Music Man” putting together dances and concerts for the teenagers back in the 60’s at the Vet’s Hall.

Frank was very well liked in the community and will be missed. Funeral services will be held at the Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary on Tuesday, March 12th from 4:00-7:00 PM. On Wednesday the 13th, there will be a Mass at St. Louis de Montfort Church starting at 1:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at the Santa Maria Cemetery and reception at the Eagle’s Hall.

Theresa went by many names: Teres, Teeta, Grandma, Falana, and Gigi, but to my brother and me she held the most important name, she was Mom. She unexpectedly passed away on February 26, 2024. She lived with her two best friends who she also called sisters, Cynthia Wilson and Jill Frederick, along with her only son Ej. Her passing has left the largest void in our family. Theresa was one feisty redhead who was strong-willed, a fighter till the very end and she loved from the end of her hair to the tips of her toes. She also wouldn't hesitate to put you in your place if you got out of line, a quality I'm sure her sisters were ever so fond of. Theresa was full of life, she loved the local rodeo, hanging out at the lake with friends in the summer, and BBQing for the family, but she loved taking care of her grandbabies the most. She loved her perfume, she was a Chanel Girl, she loved shoes and sunglasses. She was often seen in her Grey and black housecoat, a pair of slippers, and her hair in the tightest bun imaginable. My brother was her baby boy always. He helped teach her patience, which she would need when I came along. Our mom always had our back no matter what, and she never let anyone mess with her children. Mama Bear doesn’t even describe how much she loved her kids, and she was even more protective of her grandbabies!

She might have been born in Santa Maria, CA but she was raised in Owosso Michigan where she met a handsome man (our dad) Ernest Brewer, and had two children together. Ej Brewer (Melissa Sinfuego) and after coming back to California they had (me) Jessica Brewer Sawyers (David Sawyers). She leaves behind 5 grandboys: Chandler Brewer, Austin Brewer, Christian Brewer, Noah Sawyers, and Jaxon Sawyers. She also leaves behind her niece, Mary Wilson (Johnny Aguilar) her nephew Josh Wilson (Elizabeth Wilson) along with great nieces and nephews. James Aguilar (Mariah Virden), Alexus Wilson-Fabre (Eve Wilson-Fabre) Johnny Aguilar jr, Hailey Wilson, Samantha Wilson, and her great great niece Everly James Aguilar all who will continue to carry her fiery spirit onwards through life. We don’t know how this happened Mom! You are gone way too soon! We will keep wollyboogie alive! We love you berry berry much like captain crunch berries!
