Obituary Preview: HAVERHILL - Phyllis (Scalese) Sargent, 89, of Haverhill, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2022.

She was born on October 10, 1932 in Haverhill. Phyllis was the daughter of the late Anthony and Angelina Scalese. Phyllis was first employed at Western Electric before joining the former Hale Hospital for 35 years until her retirement. She considered one of her greatest successes being voted Employee of the Year at the job she treasured so dearly. Phyllis spent many enjoyable years at the “Happy Hale” and wished every day that she could still be working there.

In her retirement Phyllis found her most enjoyment in watching the Red Sox, playing poker, spending summers at the beach, and playing Keno at Mr. Mike’s with Ron. She was an exceptional baker, making her famous Pizzelle cookies and Better Than Sex Cake, and always cooking delicious Italian cuisine. You couldn't walk into her home without her offering, “What can I get you to eat?” Most of all, Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her children and four granddaughters whom she truly cherished.

She is predeceased by her former husband Albert C. Sargent and her two brothers, Louie Scalese and Anthony (Jack) Scalese. Phyllis is survived by her lifelong partner and best friend Ron Hatfield, she will always be his “little brat”, her loving children, daughter Lisa (Sargent) Walukevich and son Glenn Sargent both of Haverhill, MA. She was an adoring grandmother to her four granddaughters Ashley, Breanna, Cayla and Denae Walukevich. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends. She will be sorely missed by everyone who loved and knew her. Celebration of Phyllis’s Life will be held on Tuesday, April 19, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Thomas Francis Taylor - November 02, 1948 - April 09, 2022

Obituary Preview: HAVERHILL - Thomas Francis Taylor of Bradford, MA and formally of North Adams, MA passed away peacefully at his home on April 9, 2022 at the age of 73. He was born on November 2, 1948 to Martin and Miriam Taylor of North Adams, MA.

He is survived by his partner of over 23 years Christine Eves, his daughter Julie Maida and son-in-law Nick Maida. He was the proud grandfather to Corinne-Marie Allen, Nicholas Maida Jr. and Jordan Maida. Mr. Taylor is also survived by his siblings Mark Taylor (Nancy) of Laconia, NH, Anne Racine (Ronald) of North Adams, MA, Martha Rockenstire (Robert) of Gambrills, MD, Samuel Taylor of Scotia, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Hugh Taylor.

Tom enjoyed sharing stories about growing up in North Adams, and reminiscing about “the good ol’ days” with family and friends. He treasured the relationships and memories that he built there; especially his friendship with John Howland (deceased). He looked forward to breakfast on Saturday mornings with his buddies, and his daughter and granddaughter looked forward to their regular phone calls about everything and nothing at all.

His wisdom and natural ability to put most anything into perspective served as an anchor for his partner Christine, his daughter Julie, and granddaughter Corinne. He was their rock. His words provided comfort in times of need, and his unconditional love and acceptance offered safe space for all who knew him. His collection of random facts, true and sometimes altered for his own enjoyment, made him a fantastical father and grandfather. His awkward, one-handed hugs will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to enjoy them.

Tom was a Naval veteran who served in the Vietnam war, and went on to graduate from Bentley College. He retired as a financial officer for Nutter McClennan & Fish. He spent many (very) early mornings at the gym, and he enjoyed hiking and long bike rides. He was an avid skier, and spent many vacations exploring the Alps and various European destinations. He and his life partner Christine enjoyed golfing together, going out to eat, fun on the beach, and spending quality time with their friends and loved ones. Tom was an incredible human being, a loyal friend, and devoted family man. His infectious laughter (saved only for genuine hilarity) provided a sense of pride to all who provoked it. He had the most amazing sense of humor, and time with him was never wasted.

He will be missed more than words will ever express.

Joseph John Cellucci - June 07, 1926 - April 02, 2022

Obituary Preview: ANDOVER - Joseph John Cellucci, 95, of Andover, and formerly of Scituate, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 2, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Carole (Coleman) (Wellborn) Cellucci and son of the late Loreto Cellucci and Donata (Salvucci) Cellucci.

Joseph grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and after he was gravely wounded in Europe in service as a soldier in the United States Army during World War II, he returned to Cambridge and worked in multiple positions for the city including as a police officer, building inspector, and as Building Commissioner. He was multi-talented and seemed capable of fixing anything and doing everything! He enrolled in night school at fifty years old and obtained an Associate’s Degree.  He owned and operated a donut shop, was a jeweler, and owned and worked at a construction company with his brother.  When he retired from the city of Cambridge, he built a retirement home in Scituate for himself and his wife.

In addition to his wife, Carole, Joseph is survived by daughter, Coreen Spencer and husband Tom of Franklin, son, Kenneth Wellborn and wife Catherine of Haverhill, and son in law Paul McGrath of Haverhill, as well as his cherished grandchildren -- granddaughters Ashley and Colette Spencer, and grandsons Christopher Wellborn and fiancé Amanda Vito, Paul Michael, Brian, and Kevin McGrath. He is additionally survived by his beloved sister Mary (Cellucci) Emerson of Eugene, Oregon, and daughter Patricia Walterman and family of Cincinnati, Ohio.  He was predeceased by his mother and father, daughters Donna McGrath and Deborah Wellborn, sons James Wellborn and Joseph Cellucci, Jr., and brothers Larry, Carmen, Tony, and Danny.

Hillard W. Welch - December 04, 1925 - March 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: Although he fought the ravages of old age like a trooper, Hillard Walmer Welch of Newburyport, MA passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the lofty age of 96. He was born in Cambridge on December 4th, 1925 to Robert H. W. and Marian (Probert) Welch, Jr., the younger brother of the late Robert H. W. Welch III, and he also lived in Belmont, Weston, Centerville, and Groveland. Known by friends and family as “Hid: H-I-D”, he was a lifelong learner with a passion for this great country and its Constitution. He enthusiastically discussed its merits with everyone he met, offering them a pocket Constitution of their own.

The only thing greater than his patriotism was Hid’s love for his family. He was a devoted husband and father, the consummate family man. On June 30th, 1956, he married the love of his life, Joyce K. Tyler, a mere three months after their first date. Their almost sixty-six years of marriage is a testament to his commitment, honor and love for Joycie and their family. Together they raised three daughters, Hollis (Holly) Sullivan of Natick, MA (children Daniel, James, Bridget and Nora), Sherrill (Sherry) Roach of Topsfield, MA (Roger Roach, sons Paul and Charles), and Wendell (Wendy) Orlando of Boulder, CO (John Orlando, children Marcus and Mary) and delighted in the activities and accomplishments of all.

Because he was interested in everything, Hid held many different positions through the years. A graduate of Belmont High, he spent a PG year at Belmont Hill School and then enrolled at Yale University. Due to WWII, he interrupted his studies to enlist in the Signal Corps and was stationed in Italy. Upon his return, he completed his B.A. in U.S. History, claiming he graduated “fully equipped to do absolutely nothing.” He first worked for The James O. Welch candy company and later joined the advertising firm of Chirurg & Cairns, where he rose to the position of Vice President. He also held senior positions at Provandie & Chirurg and Suburban Welders Supply Co. In 1977 he started his own company, International Ophthalmic Industries or IOI, importing and distributing ophthalmological instruments. While building up IOI Hid performed marketing services for the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the New England Society of same. In his later years, Mr. Welch continued to provide aid and advice to foreign companies wishing to market their surgical products in the USA through his company, Medical Device Consulting. There was almost nothing Hid couldn’t conquer once he set his mind to it. During his early work years, Hid competed as an amateur pair figure skater for the Skating Club of Boston, winning the 1953 New England Regional Championships. He also could play tennis, ice hockey, ping-pong, pitch a baseball, ski on snow or water, ballroom- or tap-dance, sing, tell a joke, play or teach the piano, cook, wire a house, design and construct a puppet theater, knit, build a deck, repair any appliance… His list of accomplishments was wide and endless. His daughters and grandchildren benefited greatly from his can-do approach and boundless energy and enthusiasm for both his interests and theirs. He took great delight in hearing about their pursuits and helping to brainstorm how to make them even better. He also enjoyed playing host to family and friends, and his trash-can clambakes were legendary!

Donald Paul Golan - August 17, 1934 - March 20, 2022

Obituary Preview: ANDOVER - Donald Paul Golan, age 87, of Andover, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 20, 2022 with his loving wife of 57 years by his side.  Donald was born on August 17, 1934 in Lawrence, MA, the son of the late Stanley and Mildred (Schirner) Golan.  He was raised and educated in Lawrence, graduating from Lawrence High and then from the Bentley School of Accounting and Finance.

Donald began his career at Pratt & Whitney before joining Polaroid as a Controller and moving to Andover in 1969.  After early retirement from Polaroid, Donald began a new chapter as a consultant at Ivy Biomedical, eventually becoming COO before fully retiring and completing his successful finance career.

Donald met Janice at the Lawrencian Ski Club in Bartlett, NH. Donald and Janice built their first home on the Saco River and spent many happy years in Bartlett, skiing with family and friends. After settling in Andover, Donald purchased a beach home in Wells, ME, enjoying summers in Maine and winters in Boynton Beach, FL.

Donald loved to be active and was constantly on the move – his hobbies included golf, tennis, skiing, walking, landscaping and shuffleboard. Donald also loved to share jokes at any social occasion.

Surviving Donald are his beloved wife, Janice (Pierog) Golan, his son David Golan & his wife Jean of Andover, MA, and their children, Alex, Carly and Jake, his son Daniel Golan and his fiancé, Dawn-Lee S. Black of Lawrence, MA and his brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews. His beloved siblings, Kenneth Golan, and Marilyn (Golan) Curley, predeceased Donald.

Lovingly known as “Hot Nana” to all those who loved her, she was born on September 7, 1933 in Worcester, MA to the late Daniel Shannon and Gertrude Mapplebeck. Connie was the wife of the late John W. Connors and is survived by her children Richard Connors, Patricia Roberts and husband Vincent (Tim), Debra Garvey and husband Mark, MaryLou Connors, John Connors and wife Jeannine, Robert Connors and wife Kelly, Joanne Connors and close friend (son) Barry Levy. Grandchildren Amy Roberts, Erin Gobbi and husband Corey, Colleen Garvey, Kelsey Garvey, Patrick Garvey and wife Andrea, Mikayla Connors, Kira Connors and Daniel Connors. Great-Grandchildren Cameran Gobbi, Connor Gobbi, Noa Garvey and Gianna Manriquez. She was the adoring “mama” to her beloved cavapoo Susie Q. She is also survived by her sisters Carolyn Semon of Rutland, MA, Ruth Kos of Grafton, MA, and Susan Bacon of FL  and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter Bunny Connors, her grandson Timothy Roberts, brothers Daniel Shannon and Donald Mapplebeck, and sister Nancy Shannon Perrot

Connie was the founder of the North Andover Parent Advisory Council (NAPAC) and past chairperson of the State advisory Council for Chapter 766. She was founder of the Religious Education CCD for Special needs children of St Michaels.  She strongly believed that her daughter and all special education students had a right to an education in the school system and had a right to receive their religious sacraments like everyone else. She was also co-founder of the CONN (clothe our needy newborns) for the Telephone Pioneers of America, Chaired the Statue of Liberty renovation project for the Pioneers of America, Recipient of the St. Augustine’s Award from Merrimack College, and volunteered with her husband for Merrimack Valley Hospice for seven years.

Despite raising eight children, Connie always found time to try new things such as macrame, heading up the Red Hot Mamas softball team, ceramic classes, golf, wig parties, and cake decorating to name just a few. She was cofounder of Girl Scout troop 90 and has aways had a special place in her heart for her Scouts. She was an avid gardener and was proud of her Gardener of the Month status for City of Haverhill.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 S. Main Street, Haverhill from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, in All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Avenue, Haverhill at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery, No. Andover.

Michael Dennis DiModica - January 04, 1935 - March 09, 2022

Obituary Preview: GROVELAND -  Michael Dennis DiModica of Groveland, MA, age 87, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2022. Born on January 4, 1935 in Winthrop, MA, Michael was the son of the late Florence V. DiModica (Lespasio) and Joseph DiModica. He was the husband of the late Lois M. DiModica (Wrightson), who passed away on October 10, 2021, and with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.

His early childhood was spent on Leverett Street in Boston’s West End and his teenage years on Orleans and Saratoga Streets in East Boston. He attended Don Bosco Trade School and Boston College High School, graduating in 1953. Michael was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving from 1955-1956 as a radio officer in Germany, and subsequently attended Northeastern University, graduating in 1960 with a B.A. in English. During this time he worked at Stop & Shop in East Boston where he met the love of his life, Lois Wrightson of Winthrop; he was a stock boy and she a cashier. They married in East Boston on June 10, 1961 and had four children to whom they were devoted parents.

Michael spent most of his life in public service. He had a 33-year career with the U.S. Social Security Administration. He also served the Town of Groveland, MA, where he helped establish the Council on Aging, served on the School Committee and Recreation Committee, started the Pentucket Youth Basketball League, and coached Little League Baseball. He was also an avid reader who loved history and music.

Michael and his wife Lois had an active social life. They had many friends with whom they would travel to Florida and on several Caribbean cruises. They were also members of Bass Rocks Golf Club in Gloucester for several years. He had a large extended family including many cousins with whom he shared a lifelong friendship.

Michael is survived by his four children, Marjorie Squire and her husband Jonathan, Michele DiModica, Michael DiModica and his wife Laurie, and Melissa Niziak and her husband James. He was a loving grandfather to Amanda Adams, Justin Niziak, Catherine Niziak, Victoria Squire, Michael J. DiModica and William DiModica. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 14, in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 S. Main Street, Haverhill at 10:00 AM. Gloria Vitale - December 11, 1949 - March 07, 2022

Obituary Preview: HAVERHILL - On March 7, 2022, our beloved Gloria passed on from this earth.

Gloria was a devoted mother and caring friend. Her laugh was infectious, and she could find humor in most anything. Gloria was a music lover, everything from Adele to Alice in Chains. She connected with the arts as a dancer in her youth, photographer, and created beautiful artwork using pen and marker.

Gloria dedicated much of her time to education, receiving a master’s degree in Special Needs and spending time as a substitute in the Haverhill area schools, a job she cherished. She also traveled, spending a summer in Europe and a year in S. Korea teaching English. Gloria’s mind was never at rest. She was always curious, asking questions, researching and sharing what she learned with her friends and family. She was enormously empathetic and had respect for all people and living things. She never judged another person and treated everyone equally.

She is survived by her two daughters, Nicole Hollis-Vitale and Chandra Cloutier, and their spouses, Chris Drane and Ben Cloutier; grandchildren Jax and Scarlett Cloutier; her former husband Bill Hollis; as well as many friends and family. Betty Ann Jenkins - December 21, 1932 - March 01, 2022

Obituary Preview: For those that know Betty, you can imagine she went on her own terms. Warm thoughts of the next beach and a cool refreshment in hand, Betty Jenkins, 89, passed peacefully in the early hours of March 1, 2022.

Raised in Newton, MA, Betty graduated from Newton High School and the Chamberlain School for Women. She married Donald Jenkins, and moved to Framingham in 1960 to raise her family on Prior Drive. She spent many happy years working at Filenes and Macy’s before her retirement. She moved to Haverhill Crossings in Haverhill in 2020 to be closer to family, and made countless friends while she was there.

Happy to rejoin her parents Arthur and Alice Fleming and her sister Claire. Betty is survived by her children Donna and husband Tom McCarron of Haverhill, Bryan Jenkins of Brewster and Kevin Jenkins of Needham; her five grandchildren Robbie, Tim, Elizabeth, Cole and Dylan. She also leaves five great-grandchildren who loved their Grammy.

Betty enjoyed every sip from life’s glass to the last and would be remiss to let any of us forget the fun and laughter shared amongst friends and family. In celebration of Betty, and the countless precious memories she has left us all,  family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Betty’s Life to be held on Sunday, March 6, in the Driscoll Funeral Home, 309 So. Obituary Preview: WEST NEWBURY, MA - Steven A. Beaumier, 67, of West Newbury, died February 28, 2022, surrounded by his family after a short but brave battle with cancer.

Steve was born on January 27, 1955, in Susanville, CA. He graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1972. He worked as a teacher with the Connecticut Department of Corrections where he spent his career teaching inmates carpentry. He also coached the swim and lacrosse teams for both his children and grandchildren and was the first to sign up for a school field trip.

Steve married his wife Vicky on November 7, 1981, and they made East Longmeadow home where they raised their 2 children before re-locating to the Newburyport, MA area to help raise their grandchildren and be closer to the ocean.

He was an avid outdoorsman but especially loved kayaking, being by the ocean on a cool day, and tasting craft beers, barefoot of course. Steve was known for his kind and gentle soul as well as his love of animals. Steve always needed a project and could be found tinkering around the house either fixing something or helping with the gardens.

Steve is survived by his wife Vicky; daughter Allison DeLena and her husband Nick of West Newbury and son Matthew Beaumier and his wife Christine of Sand Springs, OK. He leaves behind his four grandchildren Marissa, Julian, Zoe, and Tommy, whom he loved more than life itself. In addition, Steve leaves behind Sally Strniste, whom he considered another daughter; his best friend Sam the Golden Retriever, who never left his side through all the ups and downs of his illness. He was born in Fitchburg, MA, on May 10, 1945, and was the son of the late Joseph G. and Irene R. (LaRoche) LaCroix. Known to many as “Little Joe”, he was a used car dealer, owning Cormier Auto Sales, Inc. in Leominster, MA. Later moving to Winchendon, MA, where he owned and ran Lake Street Motors and also owned and ran “The Barn” on Route 12 in Winchendon, MA, with his life partner Maggie. They collected and sold antiques on the weekends for many years. He was a NASCAR fan, loved car shows, and built custom hotrods.

Joe spent most of his life on the track driving the #50, as a member of the NHSTRA (New Hampshire Short-Track Racing) at Monadnock, Hudson, Lee USA, and Claremont Speedways. He was a member of the Jaffrey Ice Racing Association, Lake Region Ice Racing Club and Lake Whalom Ice Racing Association. Also was a member of the Eastwood Club of Fitchburg, MA.

He leaves two sons Joe LaCroix of Jaffrey, NH and David LaCroix of Fitchburg, MA; daughter Julie Cormier and her husband Roger of Royalston, MA; four grandchildren Cody, Josh, Jeremy and Katelyne; and several great-grandchildren; sister Linda Martin of Kennesaw, GA; also an extended family of Timothy Robichaud, John Jalbert, Chris Ballas and the Day family. Joe was predeceased by his “Angel” and partner in life, Marguerite Stockwell, who passed away on November 25, 2019 and his brother Ronald LaCroix, who passed away in 2000.

Obituary Preview: GROVELAND - George J. Charest, 75, of Groveland, MA, died Friday, February 25, 2022, after a courageous battle with a long illness. Born April 9, 1946, he was the son of Ruth (Sutcliffe) (Charest) Norman and the late George L. Charest, of Lawrence, MA.  He was predeceased by his stepfather, Frank P. Norman. A U.S. Navy Veteran, he served proudly on board the aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Intrepid, during the Vietnam Conflict in the Gulf of Tonkin. Serving from 1963-1967, George attained the rank of Fireman 2nd Class and earned the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star.  He traveled the world with the Navy, yet returned home and married the love of his life, Paula (Wertz) Charest. They were married for 54 cherished years and together raised 5 children.  He owned George J. Charest Building and Remolding based in Groveland. He was a family man through and through, taking special delight in helping raise his grandchildren George and Lilah, who lived with him and fulfilled the latest chapter in his life.

He grew up in Lawrence and often told stories of his childhood that sounded like they came from the pages of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” with neighborhood friends and his brother David making up a trusty band of explorers who had many adventures along the banks and waters of the Merrimack River and the areas near their home in Lawrence.

George was always one for an adventure, whether it was bringing the family camping to the White Mountains, hiking Mt. Chocorua, road trips and Sunday drives or the infamous family baked bean fight on the streets of Lawrence. He found joy in everything that he did. He traveled several times to Hawaii, one of his favorite places, loved to swim with his grandchildren and longed to going fishing again at Johnsons Pond. He made friends everywhere he went, even during his many stays in hospitals. Whether it was the person in the bed next to him or the many doctors and nurses who cared for him as if he were their own family member, he always made new friends and had new adventures to tell about when he came home. His daughters were tireless advocates for him when he became sick and he was dubbed, "The Comeback Kid" by his family. He was so proud of all his children and extended family.    Family members include his wife of 54 years, Paula (Wertz) Charest of Groveland; his mother, Ruth Norman, 96, of Lowell; five children, Scott Charest of Exeter, NH; Nancy Nichols and husband Tom of Amesbury; Cheryl Charest of Worcester; Wendy Charest of Groveland; and Wesley Charest and wife Krisha of Groveland; brothers, David Charest and wife Nancy of Methuen; Robert Charest and wife Cindy of Epsom, NH; and John Charest of Pelham; grandchildren, Rebecca Charest and fiancé Mark LaSala of Manchester, NH; Nicholas Charest of Manchester, NH; Olivia Nichols of Amesbury; George Charest and Lilah Charest of Groveland; great-granddaughter, Adeline LaSala of Manchester, NH; sister in-law June and husband JC Latour of Georgia; cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends. He earned his undergraduate degree at University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, and received his Masters in Civil Engineering at University of Massachusetts, Lowell.  David worked for the last 15 years at Stantec Engineering in Burlington, MA , where he served as a Senior Civil Engineer. David not only gave everything to his family, but always gave 110% to his work and passion for engineering.

David had so much love for people, especially his wife Kacie and his two girls Olivia and Quinn. David was so full of life and touched more people in his short time with us than most do in a full lifetime. Anyone who met David loved him instantly. David lit up any room with his infectious smile and emitted so much warmth and kindness.

David was passionate about life whether it was golfing, playing cards with his Tewksbury crew, or attending all his girls’ activities, such as gymnastics, field hockey, lacrosse, and snowboarding. David loved to ride in his Jeep with the top off, was famous for his incredible bacon mac and cheese, and was frequently found hanging out on his back deck grilling.  All though he was a girl dad, David enjoyed playing basketball and fishing with the neighborhood kids, and his holiday decorations were over-the top and the highlight of the neighborhood.

David is survived by his wife Kacie (Berube), daughters Olivia and Quinn, mother Eunice Melo, sister Ana Melo, brother Eric Melo, mother in-law Judy Stanford, fathers in-law Paul Stanford and Donald Berube, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. David was pre-deceased by his father Eurico Melo, who passed away in 2012.

He was born in Lynn, MA on April 1, 1964 and was raised in Lynnfield, MA. After graduating from Lynnfield High in 1982, he went on to Bridgton Academy and Stonehill College, graduating with a degree in communications in 1986. In his academic years, Jack was an avid lacrosse, skier, volleyball and soccer athlete. Upon graduation Jack worked for CHB Enterprises as a Sporting Goods Buyer. He continued to work in retail in various positions from buyer to management. Jack finished out his career as a Direct Sales Service Representative for Comcast Communications.

Jack was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis when he was 4 and along with wonderful family support, he courageously refused to be defined by his disease. He loved life and was determined to live every day to the fullest. Jack was an active member of the CF Community and enjoyed speaking on CF podcasts and sharing his experiences with various support groups. Jack also was a member of the Garibaldi Club and the Bradford Swim Club.

Jack was a true Parrot Head and never missed a chance to see his favorite singer, Jimmy Buffett in concert. Although not an official Haverhill “Hillie,” Jack loved his adopted town and enjoyed  spending time with his friends and family on his ever changing thematic porch. Halloween and Christmas were his favorite times to decorate, and the lights from his house could be seen from afar.

Jack was a wonderful husband, father and friend.  He lived for watching his sons in their various sporting events and activities. For his friends and “The Village,” Jack was always available to lend a hand, an ear or a really good frozen margarita. Jack was an inspiration to all that knew him.

Surviving family members include his wife and best friend of 22 years, Christine, his sons Sean and Braeden, his mother Susan O’Leary, brother Mark O’Leary and his wife Melanie and many beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Jack also leaves behind his 2 furry buddies Finn and Dublin and the cat that thinks she is a dog, Zuzu. He was preceded in death by his father, John J. O’Leary Jr.

Jack’s family wishes to thank all the family, friends and the Haverhill Community for all the support during this time. Many thanks also to Boston Children’s Hospital for their extraordinary care with his Cystic Fibrosis battle. Special thanks to his doctors Dr. Ahmet Uluer, Dr. Manuela Cernadas and Dr. Craig Gerard. Jane (Donahue) Murphy - July 30, 1921 - February 10, 2022

Obituary Preview: HAVERHILL - Jane Loretta (Donahue) Murphy, lifelong resident of Haverhill, Jane passed away peacefully at the age of 100 on February 10, 2022, at Penacook Place, Haverhill where she was a resident for the last two years.

Jane was born July 30, 1921 to the late Charles and Mary (Heffernan) Donahue of Haverhill. She was a Haverhill High School graduate of the Class of 1939 and married her high school sweetheart J. William "Buddy" Murphy also of Haverhill, a local Pharmacist who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her sister Mary (Donahue) Brooks of Haverhill.

Jane spent many happy winters with her husband at their Florida condo and summers at their Hampton Beach home where friends and extended family regularly gathered. Her activities included being a lifelong member of her HHS class of 1939 Reunion Committee, member of a local bridge club and sewing club and operated a Millinery Shop out of her home for many years where her skills were admired by many during the Jacqueline Kennedy years when women's hats were in vogue.

Jane was one of the subjects of a film documentary, Finding Betty, the story of the filmmakers journey to discover the real identity of famed former Haverhill writer Bob Montana's popular comic strip hero Archie and his girlfriend Betty. Archie depicts typical high school trials and tribulations of teenagers in that era and is still in publication today around the globe. The film had a grand opening at Northern Essex Community College and Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art, features Mrs. Murphy, and other classmates, as possibly the muse behind the character Betty. Mrs. Murphy was friends with Montana and accompanied him to his HHS prom. She was invited as a special guest at both film openings and was the last surviving member of the Haverhill classmates who inspired the Archie characters.

Jane and her husband "Buddy" volunteered in hospitals and Nursing Homes in Florida and Haverhill, including Penacook Place, where she spent her last years as a resident, They received numerous awards and citations over the years for their caring volunteer efforts. They were also avid dancers and regularly stepped out to dance whenever they could. She was especially fond of the BeeGee's and spent her 100th birthday on July 30, 2021 dancing in her wheelchair to "Stayin Alive" to the amazement and joy of a packed house celebration at Penacook. A video of the event and her dancing has currently captured a record 2,700 views on the Penacook website and gone viral from reposting’s.

A great story teller, she loved to tell her grandchildren about their family heritage and life lessons learned. She possessed a keen sense of humor, for example, telling nursing home staff how nice they looked then adding, "you know I can't see well." She is a true force and left a positive mark on everyone she met.

Jane is survived by her two sons and daughters in-law, Robert and Christine Murphy of Atkinson, NH and William E. and Carol Murphy of Atkinson, NH. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Dillon Murphy of Derry, NH, Lindsey Gagnon of Exeter, NH, Erin Murphy, Washington, DC, and four great-grandchildren, Amanda and Brady Murphy of Derry, NH, and Shaelin and Quinten Gagnon Murphy of Exeter, NH. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to give their appreciation and love to all the staff at Penacook for their devoted care of Mom and the special 100th Birthday celebration they organized; a truly happy event. Special thanks also go to the wonderful staff at Beacon Hospice who provided care, attention and weekly visitation on her final journey. These last two years were made most difficult by Covid yet the dedicated staff at both Penacook and Beacon never wavered and for that our family is very grateful.

Sheila was born in Haverhill, MA on January 6, 1967. She attended Crowell and Nettle middle schools and was a 1985 graduate of Haverhill High School where she was awarded an Art Award.  Sheila received her B.A. in 1989 from Clark University where she majored in Studio Art. She knew she loved working with children and loved art. Sheila began giving afterschool art classes while also taking continuing education classes at the Franklin Pierce College. At one point she was teaching as many as 80 students per week. Upon graduating from Franklin Pierce College in 1994 from the Teacher Certificate Program she was hired by the Haverhill Public School Department as an Elementary Art Teacher where she happily worked for 25 years until illness caused her retirement in 2021. Sheila also attended Lesley University where she received her Master’s in Education in 1998.

In addition to teaching art in the Haverhill school system Sheila continued to teach art out of her home. Sheila also enjoyed taking art classes at the Kaleidoscope Camp at the Pike School in Andover. She enjoyed spending lots of time with her dogs Muffy, Mooshi, Rosie, Hurley and Timmy and loved antique shops and spending time working on her home and yard. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her wonderful friends whom she collected carefully through the years like treasures. They were her friends through good and bad and she loved them as if they were blood relatives.

Sheila is survived by her amazing, beautiful, energetic, kind and remarkable mother, Eileen B. Jameson of Haverhill. Sheila was also the daughter of later Louis Jameson who passed away in 1999. She is also survived by several cousins and aunts Madeline Kearney and Anne Heath. Sheila also wishes to thank her many friends for being on this journey of her life. Many thanks to the nurses on 4H at Lawrence General Hospital, Stacy Kiley of Hospice House the VNA Nurses and the many doctors and nurses at Dana Farber.
