Maria Annunziata "Nancy" Kennedy - March 28, 1947 - March 08, 2024

Departed: 03/08/2024 (Ossining)
Obituary Preview: Maria Annunziata “Nancy” Kennedy passed away on March 8, 2024 at her home in Ossining, after a brief illness, surrounded by her children and some of her favorite music.
The third of eight siblings, Nancy was born on March 28, 1947 in Dobbs Ferry, New York to Teresa and Salvatore Rotiroti. She attended grade school at St. Joseph’s in Yonkers, New York, and was a graduate of Yonkers High School. Nancy graduated from Elizabeth Seton College, which was named after Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, who was known for her devoutness, compassion, and her desire to help others. The same could be said of Nancy.
Nancy spent most of her life helping and caring for others, and collecting lifelong friends along the way. Whether it was providing care, education, and joy through music to the kids at the Cardinal McCloskey Home for Children, the kids at the St. Augustine’s Youth Group and CCD program, or her own kids and their friends at home, Nancy made it seem almost effortless.
After a few years off to raise her children, Nancy continued her professional career in various administrative roles for several religious organizations, including the Briarcliff Congregational Church and Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers. After retiring, Nancy continued giving of herself as a teaching aide, nanny, and a CCD leader.
Anyone who knew Nancy knew how important music was to her. She would sing and play anything from Catholic hymns to classic folk and protest songs of the 60’s. Through music, Nancy brought people together. It didn’t matter if you didn’t know how to play an instrument, or whether you didn’t want to play an instrument, Nancy could convince even the most music-resistant people to pick up the maracas, the tambourine, or the “egg,” and share in the joy.
Nancy is survived by her two children, Sarah Kennedy (Amy Nash and their sons, Otis and Felix) of Waltham, Massachusetts and B. Kennedy of Hudson, New York; her siblings, Mary Rotiroti, Maggie Smith, Joanne Bell, Vincent Rotiroti, Anthony Rotiroti, and Teresa (Frank) Solano; and many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her older sister, Catherine Wright, and her older brother, Nick Rotiroti. Though she has left us in body, her spirit will be with us forever.
Visitation will be held at Dorsey Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 2PM to 4PM and 6PM to 8PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Augustine’s at 10:00 AM on March 15, 2024.

Alice Mary McKenna - September 09, 1940 - February 27, 2024

Departed: 02/27/2024 (Ossining)
Obituary Preview: Alice was born in 1940 to Joseph G. and Margaret T. O’Neill. She was raised in Greenpoint, N.Y. and attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School there; with her apartment being right next to the school. Alice had an older brother Joe and a younger sister Rose. If truth be told, she had “another sister”, Rose’s best friend Irene, who practically lived with them from age five. And how things sometimes work, Alice would end up marrying Irene’s older brother John “Vinny.”
The Catholic faith was central to Alice’s life. At 17 years of age, she became a Maryknoll nun. She served our Lord as a sister, helping the poor in the barrios of southern California. After 10 years of faithful service to our Lord she left, just before final vows. She eventually moved back to Greenpoint, met one of her childhood’s friends, Vinny, married in 1971 and raised a strong Catholic family of three children. The family moved to Staten Island in 1980 and Alice lived there through the 2000’s. Alice and Vinny loved to go to the Jersey Shore in the summer and walk the beach. After 2010, she started to spend more time in Peekskill, NY to see her grandchildren and moved to Peekskill permanently in 2019.
She loved her rosary and Sunday Mass. Later in life, she especially enjoyed being able to attend Latin Mass. Alice was always looking forward to the next family event and adored her grandchildren, especially baking with them. Alice would visit Maryknoll every year for their annual fair. She kept up correspondence with her fellow former sisters and Maryknoll itself. As she spent more time in Peekskill, she would spend more time visiting the sisters at Maryknoll. She also kept up mail correspondence with her family in Ireland, especially John O’Neill.
Alice was also a published poet and could string together poetry on the spot. One of her famous lines was, “You bold and brazen, bratty kid. You’re cruising for a bruising!” She was an active Columbiette with the Henry Stolzenthaler Council # 1675 in Staten Island, serving as a Council President and then a Chapter President. Later in life she obtained a B.A. of Arts in Theology , and worked at the Registrar’s Office of St. John’s University (Staten Island Campus).
Alice was predeceased by her husband, John “Vinny” McKenna. She is survived by her children Sean V. McKenna (spouse Maria Paola McKenna) Kevin H. McKenna, Sharon A. Cummings (spouse Michael Cummings), grandchildren Vincent & Hailey McKenna, Riley & Brayden Cummings, and her sister Rose Rumpler.
