Obituary Preview: Donald P. Kutzera, Sr., a life-long resident of Laurel, passed away at his home on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Mr. Kutzera was born in Syracuse, NY, on November 4, 1934, to the late Peter and Joanna Kutzera. Don owned and operated his own flower shop prior to becoming the White House florist during the Johnson and Nixon administrations. After his time at the White House, he went on to become a sales representative for the John Henry Company, a floral supplier. Don then went to work at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Prior to assuming duties as the facility manager and later as project manager, Donald donated countless hours creating floral arrangements for the various services at St. Mary’s. Mr. Kutzera is survived by his children Michelle (Bill) Bailey, Peter Kutzera and Will (Michele) Kutzera and his sister Dolores Deutsch. He is also survived by his grandchildren Hunter, Emma, Owen, Maddie and Paige. He was predeceased by his wife Marian Kutzera. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 114 St. Mary’s Place, Laurel, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, beginning at 10:30 am. If desired, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Parish Center, 114 St. Mary’s Place, Laurel, MD 20707.
