Mechtilde "Tillie" (Eisgruber) Moody - May 10, 1930 - June 15, 2023

Departed: 06/15/2023 (South Dayton)
Obituary Preview: Mechtilde “Tillie” (Eisgruber) Moody, 93, of Cattaraugus, NY, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 15, 2023. Tillie was born during the height of prohibition in Buffalo on May 16, 1930, to the late Josef and Mechtilde (Wimmer) Eisgruber in a small apartment located on Frederick Place, which was known locally as “Schnapps Alley” due to the abundance of speakeasies. A first-generation American, she took great pride in her German heritage. She grew up above her parents' thriving business, Eisgruber's Restaurant & Tavern (formerly one of those aforementioned speakeasies), on Genesee Street on Buffalo's East Side. At 14 years old, her family moved to Maple Drive, Bowmansville, NY, where she graduated from Lancaster High School in 1948. It was in Bowmansville that she met and married the love of her life, Bruce R. Moody, on October 10, 1949. Tillie’s parents moved back to Buffalo to be closer to their business, so Bruce and Tillie bought their house and began their loving life together. A skilled gardener, Tillie was an active member and past president of the Bowmansville Garden Club and enjoyed showing her floral creations in the Erie County Fair. Alongside Bruce, she raised their three children, Bruce Jr., Heide, and Bart, in Bowmansville until 1975 when they moved their family to Cattaraugus, NY. Embracing her new country home, Tillie became an active member of the Cattaraugus United Methodist Church, the Civic League, and later, the Let's Travel Club. Tillie shared her floral artistry and green thumb working at Colonial Florist in Gowanda and Burdick's Blueberries for several seasons. In addition to her love for gardening, she enjoyed making crafts and cherished spending time with her family and friends. Tillie's warm hospitality and delicious cooking made every gathering she hosted truly special. Tillie (Tomato) is survived by her devoted husband, Bruce R. Moody, Sr.; her beloved sons, Bruce Jr. (Leslie) Moody and Bart (Kate) Moody; her son-in-law Brian (Heide) Fischer; her six grandchildren, Roy (Katie), Katie, and Liza Fischer, and Lauren, Tyler, and Adam Moody; and her great-grandchild, Wyatt Fischer. She is also survived by her brother, Richard (Anni) Eisgruber, along with two nephews Mark (Kym) Eisgruber, Kurt (Sidney) Eisgruber and a niece Kerri (Keith) Watson. Tillie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Josef, and her cherished daughter, Heide (Brian) Fischer.
