J O Wrolstad at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, MN (now Granite Falls Lutheran Church). He was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart, MN in 1945 by Rev. TH Rossing.
He started first grade in District 94, Wang Township Country School and attended through 8th grade. Owen graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1949. He later attended the University of Minnesota Agricultural School where his focus was on welding and carpentry. That focus and inherent talent earned him the reputation of being able to create almost anything from raw materials. In 1953, his father passed away and Owen returned home to become a full-time farmer on the family farm. On November 12, 1955, he was married to Doris L. Schwitters at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, MN. He and Doris had three beautiful daughters, Dianne, Sandra, and Jean.
While farming was not his first choice of careers, his mother, Adella, told him that if he took care of the farm, it would take care of him and his family. That advice proved to be true. In fact, the farm was designated a Century Farm in 2013. As a young man. Owen participated in the Hi Lights 4-H Club for 12 years with projects focusing on hogs, beef cattle, gardening, and leadership. He also joined the Lions Club, a great service organization where he enjoyed the meetings and the great dinners at the Romberg Hotel.
Owen enjoyed serving on the Wang Township Board. He was elected treasurer and served in that capacity for 22 years. His wife, Doris, became ill, and he resigned from the board to care for her until her death. After Doris’ death he served on the board for six more years. In January 2015 he retired from the board and moved into Sacred Heart. From 1875 to 2017 three of the ten treasurers of the Wang Township Board have been from the Larson family. Owen also served on the church council and as an usher at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He also served as Wang Township’s representative on the Sacred Heart Fire Department.
Owen is survived by daughters Dianne (Allen) Poucher of Jacksonville, Florida, Sandra (Charles) Roelofs of Willmar, Minnesota, Jean (Craig) Detwiler of Loretto, Minnesota; his grandchildren: Megan and Brok Junkermeier, Hanna Detwiler (Jake Vasilj), and Dorothy Ruth Poucher.
