Brenda Wilson Jones - March 01, 1955 - April 06, 2024

Departed: 04/06/2024 (Brundidge)
Obituary Preview: Mrs. Brenda Wilson Jones, age 69, of Ariton, Alabama, passed away on April 6, 2024. Brenda was born on March 1, 1955 to Joe and Joan Wilson of Brundidge, Alabama.
Brenda had the unique ability of being able to make others feel noticed and valued. She adored all of her family and showed them love through acts of service. She played a pivotal role in her husband Jack’s successful 30+ year veterinary career at Jones Animal Clinic. Her roles there extended from office manager to dog groomer. Her tender heart was most evident as she frequently comforted pets and their owners through difficult and sometimes tragic circumstances. She rejoiced with new pet owners and she cried with those losing a beloved creature.
Brenda loved her children, Jennifer, Daniel, and Amy. She was an ever present source of love and encouragement in their lives as she championed their passions and pursuits.
The role of “Nana“ came easily to Brenda because of her incredible fun, loving spirit! Trevor, Ellie Kate, Emmett, and Jack had the most amazing adventures with their Nana! She lavished them with love by way of trips, movie outings, their favorite treats. They shared 1 million laughs and smiles along the way. She absolutely doted on her grandchildren.
Brenda was not a “glass, half full“ lady. She was a “my glass is overflowing, and I want others to share in my blessings“ woman. Her generosity knew no bounds. She found great joy in serving others. She gave freely of her time to numerous worthy causes, such as Sav-a-Life and Salem-Troy Baptist Association.
Her heart was clearly reflected in the way she served her Lord and Savior through her beloved Springfield Baptist Church. Numerous children throughout the years learned Vacation Bible School through her exuberant instruction.
She was a constant and trustworthy presence in the lives of all who knew her. She was never comfortable in the spotlight. She was always working tirelessly behind-the-scenes to meet the needs of family, friends, and acquaintances. People were drawn to this precious lady as her very presence was one of compassion and goodness. Her vibrant personality was her trademark. She loved fiercely!
Our hearts are broken, but she is without a doubt healed and made whole in the Holy presence of our Savior Jesus Christ.
With praise and glory, we give thanks to God for the life of Brenda Jones.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 8, 2024 at 11:00 am from the Springfield Baptist Church with Rev.  Shayne Allen, Johnny Anderson and Rev. Kenneth Baggett officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Brundidge directing.  Visitation will be held Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm at Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge.
She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years Jack Jones; children, Jennifer Snellgrove (Josh), Daniel Jones, Amy Kilpatrick (Ross); grandchildren, Trevor Snellgrove (Gabi), Ellie Kate Kilpatrick, Emmett Kilpatrick, Jack Kilpatrick; parents, Joe and Joan Wilson; brother, Joey Wilson (Kim); sister, Nancy Hoge (Bruce); sister-in-law, Susan Wright; brother-in-law, Ed Jones (Lynn); numerous  aunts, uncles, niece, nephews and other family.

Merton Carroll Rhodes - December 29, 1933 - December 01, 2023

Departed: 12/01/2023 (Brundidge)
Obituary Preview: Merton Carroll Rhodes (M.C.), passed away at his home in Troy, AL, on December 1, 2023 at the age of 89. Born on December 29, 1933 in Banks, AL, he lived a life filled with love, service, hard work, and left a lasting mark on the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
M.C. served his country with honor and bravery during the Korean War as a proud member of the United States Navy. He served on the aircraft carriers, the USS Essex, and the Valley Forge, contributing to the defense of our nation and ensuring the safety and freedom we cherish today.
After his military service, M.C. returned home to Alabama, where he embarked on a lifelong career in road construction. His commitment to excellence and tireless work ethic meant that there is likely not a single road in the state that he did not have a hand in building or improving. His legacy is etched into the very infrastructure of Alabama; a testament to his dedication and craftsmanship.
Aside from being one of the hardest working men you would ever know, M.C., (also known more affectionately as Pa C and often just Uncle C) was a loving and devoted family man. Even though he preferred them brief, the visits and moments spent with his loved ones, created lasting memories that will be treasured for generations to come. He loved his children dearly, but there was nothing like those Grands, Great-Grands, and Great-Great Grands and that affection was certainly returned to him ten-fold.
M.C. was proceeded in death, by his loving wife of 54 years, Lorna Johnson Rhodes, Mother, Loney Rhodes, Father, Carroll Rhodes, Sister, Anita Stamey and Sister, Annette Wells.
M.C. is survived by four children, Kenny Rhodes, Marty Rhodes (Maxine), Leisa Scruggs (Larry) and Jeff Rhodes (Kelly), four siblings, Carolyn Singleton (Floyd), Ray Rhodes (Mary Alice), Carroll Rhodes, Jr. and Danny Rhodes, 12 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great-Great Grandchildren, and several very special nieces and nephews and his special caretaker Sheila Wambles. In celebrating his life, let us remember the man who served his country, built the roads we travel, and loved his family with all his heart.
Visitation will be held at Dillard funeral Home in Brundidge, AL on Monday, December 4, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm, and a memorial service to honor and remember M.C. will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Dillard Funeral Home, Brundidge, AL at 2:00 pm. Burial with military honors will follow at Antioch Baptist Church, 3306 Country Road 3310, Troy, AL 36079.
The family would like to extend a very special, heartfelt thanks to the staff at Compassus Hospice, of Troy for their incredible care and kindness during Mr. Rhodes’ illness.
Flowers are welcome, but the family also kindly requests donations be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
May our Pa C rest in peace, his legacy living on in the stories we share, the roads we travel, and the love that binds our family together.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
