Three brothers William Sherrod (Jean)  Maryland, Cecil Sherrod, Baltimore, Maryland, Joe Sherrod, Maryland, three sisters, Cora Lee Sherrod, Gloria Jean Sherrod both of  District of Columbia and Lucille Johnson, Tarboro, North Carolina. Fourteen grandchildren, twenty five great - grandchildren, three great- great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. A Public Viewing will be held on Monday April 04, 2022 from 2:00PM til 5:00PM

Obituary Preview: Ms. Mattie Berna Johnson Knight, of Tarboro, North Carolina entered her eternal rest on January 7, 2022 at her home. Services for Ms. Mattie Knight will be held on Saturday January 15, 2022 at 12 Noon at Dickens Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Walter Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Princeville, North Carolina.
Mattie was educated in the Edgecombe County School System in Tarboro, North Carolina, and is a 1958 graduate of W.A. Pattillo High School. After High School she moved to Washington, D.C. and attended the Margaret Murray Washington Vocational school and became a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She went on to complete an associate in Nursing from Montgomery Junior College 1972 and then became a registered (RN).  In 1978, Mattie received a bachelor's in nursing from American University. She went on to receive her master's degree in Administrative Management from Bowie State University in 1984.  Mattie spent 35 years of her professional career at Georgetown University Hospital, where she worked in the renal transplant unit and managed the dialysis unit.
She leaves to cherish the fond memories of her life, her son Rodney A. Knight (Barbara) of Tarboro, North Carolina, her most cherished granddaughter , Andrea Knight of Greenville, North Carolina, four sisters, Margaret J. Ruffin, Irene Johnson, Mary J. Brevard (Freddie) all of Tarboro, North Carolina and Addie Mae Johnson, Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Two brothers, Milton Johnson (Unice) Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Melvin Johnson of Raleigh, North Carolina and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
There will not be a public viewing nor will there be a Livestreaming of the service.
