Obituary Preview: Delores Jean Kreider, 83, of Columbia City, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Peabody Memorial Retirement Home in North Manchester. Born May 20, 1938 in Allen County, she was the daughter of Garland Otto and Emogene Pauline (Lesley) Coolman.
She graduated from South Whitley High School with the Class of 1956. On July 15, 1956, she married Richard Kreider. A Whitley County native, Delores moved from South Whitley to Columbia City in 1991 and lived in Arkansas for a brief time. Delores worked at Scott's Restaurant in South Whitley, Whitko High School's cafeteria as a Food Service Manager and retired as a Secretary at Real Estate Equities.
She is survived by her daughters, Melonie Sroufe, Colleen (Greg) Swick, Janolyn Kreider and Lucinda (Tim) Martz; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren with one more on the way. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Howard Kreider in 2008; son, Richard Alan Kreider in 2011; son-in-law, Michael Sroufe; and granddaughter, Valerie Hull.   A private family service will be held and she will be laid to rest beside her husband at South Whitley Cemetery. Richard Treesh - March 25, 1933 - April 22, 2022

Obituary Preview: Richard D. Treesh, 89, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born March 25, 1933 in Orland, he was the son of Lawrence and Hilda (Fair) Treesh.
He graduated from Central High School in Fort Wayne with the Class of 1952 and went on to attend DeVry University in Chicago. In February of 1953, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army and was awarded a National Defense Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal in Germany before being honorably discharged in 1956. On April 12, 1958, he married Joyce Pliet and a life long love story began. After the Army, Richard worked for Magnavox doing TV repairs and for over 35 years worked at Executone Inc., retiring in 1995 as a Certified Electrician. After retiring, he and Joyce moved to Florida and then to Columbia City in 2015. He had been a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed woodworking. Richard could fix or build anything, including helping others build desks, sheds and swing sets. He loved to camp and even in retirement helped do maintenance around Indian Lakes Campground. Over the years he bowled and golfed and also found relaxation fishing,
Aside from being hardworking, Richard was a loving husband and very loving father to his two daughters; he was intelligent, giving, dependable, and there to help others. He raised his daughters to be strong independent women and encouraged others to do their best. He will be greatly missed. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joyce Treesh; daughters, Debrah (Peggy Rebman) Treesh and Judith Lynn Treesh; sisters, Carol Treesh and Bonnie DeWitt; and brother, Gary Treesh. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Hilda Treesh and brothers, Jim Treesh and LV Treesh; and brother-in-law, Lloyd DeWitt.   Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. John P. Bollinger - July 07, 1930 - April 15, 2022

Obituary Preview: John P. Bollinger, age 91, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 10:42 pm on Friday April 15, 2022, at Kingston Care Center, Fort Wayne. Born on a very hot day, July 7, 1930, in the northwest bedroom of a small farmhouse located in Washington Township of Whitley County, he was the son of Harry R. and W.  Joyce (Reed) Bollinger.
John was a lifetime Whitley County resident and graduated from Washington Center High School with the Class of 1949.  He then attended North Manchester College, North Manchester, for 2 years.  John worked for Testworth Laboratory, Columbia City and Whitley Manufacturing, South Whitley while farming.  He enrolled at Purdue University, West Lafayette, in the fall of 1957. On, January 26, 1958, he married Marian L. Harvey at South Whitley Church of the Brethren.  While attending Purdue John worked at the Purdue Dairy Farm and for other area dairy farmers. He graduated very distinguished with a degree in Agriculture Science.
John was a 9-year member of the Whitley County4-H Dairy Club and also spent two years working on the Knipe Springs Farm, Rome City.
After graduation, John worked for Borden’s Ice Cream as Head Mix Maker before going to the Indiana State Board of Health for 33 years, in the Dairy Production Division as a Registered Professional Sanitarian.  During those years he was affiliated with Indiana Association of Sanitarians, International Association of Sanitarians and the Church of the Brethren.  John was a lifelong part-time farmer, and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, making maple syrup, and collecting toy dairy trucks.  On April 7, 2015, he was awarded the Steve Atkinson Lifetime Achievement Award by the Indiana Milk Quality Professionals, Inc. for outstanding service to the Indiana dairy industry.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Marian L. Bollinger of Columbia City; children Kristine A. (Ron) Ferguson of Fort Wayne, Kevin E. (Diane) Bollinger, Kurtis L.  Bollinger, Klinton J. (KJ) Bollinger, partner, Addie Piatt, all of Columbia City; Klayton P. (Margie) Bollinger of Wabash; 9 grandchildren Alisha Treece, Samantha (Robert) Shively, Kenyon K. Bollinger, Jonathon Bollinger, Dr. Cory (Ariana) Ferguson, Cody Ferguson, Kaleb Bollinger, MaKayla Bollinger, and Keith Bollinger; 9 great-grandchildren Dillon, Karter, and Carlie Thompson, Charleigh Townsend, Savannah Autumn, and Ebony Shively, Brantlee Striggle, and Levi Shively; sisters Alice  Bohnstedt of Columbia City and Wanda Friesen of San Luis Obispo; sister-in-law Velva Bollinger of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Kenyon Bollinger, brother Harry Bollinger, Jr., sister Mary Thomas, and brothers-in-law Jack Thomas and Edward Bohnstedt.
Private funeral services for John will be held for his family with burial in South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley.

Obituary Preview: Dallas DeWayne "Bub" Manns, 60, of Rock Hill, South Carolina and formerly of Churubusco, Indiana passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at his home. He was the son of the late DeWayne and Jeanette Manns.
Dallas graduated from Churubusco High School with the Class of 1980. On April 10, 2002 he married Cheryl A. Kreis. He served eight years in the Air Force and drove truck for many years. He even drove many years with his wife.
Dallas is survived by his wife of 20 years, Cheryl Manns; siblings, Cheryl (Chris) Nicholson, Sherry King, Laura (Weston) Crawford, Marcy (Don) Heed and Micheal (Leigh) Manns; and many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. Obituary Preview: Sharon Kay White, 77, of Cromwell, Indiana, passed away Monday, April 4, 2022 at Miller's Merry Manor in Syracuse. Born November 5, 1944 in Ft. Wayne, she was the daughter of John Earl and Pauline Elizabeth (Cochren) Hatfield.
She graduated from Huntertown High School with the Class of 1963. She moved from Allen County to Whitley County in 1975 and on July 2, 1988, she married Thomas D. White in Columbia City. In 1996, she and Tom moved to Cromwell. Sharon had been an industrial sewer for most of her work career at various companies including Flex Steel, Jomac, Sroufe and retired from Veada Industries. She then went on to work part time at Everything Pontoon sewing seats before fully retiring.
Sharon was loving, fun and very giving. She was always there for her children and adored all her grandchildren. Sharon found true happiness and love when she married Tom. They enjoyed life together and camping at Forrest Ridge Campground near Larwill. She also was very passionate about playing bingo! Sharon was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Warsaw.
Sharon is survived by her husband of 33 years, Tom White; children, Charlene (Mike) Sheets, Stanley (Kim) Geese, David Geese; Jennifer (Andy "AJ") Fedock, Chris (Denise) Geese and Jeremy  White; brother, Bob  Hatfield; sisters, Vicki (Jim) Pryor, Janet (Mike) Kettlebourgh and Joan (Doc) Holbrook;  14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Pauline Hatfield; grandson, Ian Geese; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie; brother, Dennis Hatfield; sister-in-law, Bonita Hatfield.

Judith worked for Preferred Technical Group, Columbia City until her retirement in 2004.  She enjoyed gardening, caring for stray animals, drawing, reading Sue Grafton books, and watching the old TV shows.
Survivors include her daughter Annette (Lee) Aumsbaugh of Columbia City; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson; sisters Evelyn Lambdin of Jellico, TN and Tina (Walt) Carpenter of Fort Wayne; several nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John “Sonny” Kissick, sons Danny and Ricky Young,nieces Jennifer Carpenter and Teresa Lambdin, and a great-nephew Gage Lambdin.
Funeral services for Judith will be held at 12:00 pm on Tuesday April 5, 2022, at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with calling two hours prior to service.
Burial will follow in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell.

Ross attended Pensacola Christian High School and graduated with the Class of 2000.
He enjoyed woodworking, making home repairs, weightlifting, and riding motorcycles, especially if it was a Kawasaki Ninja.  Ross also loved watching the Simpsons and spending time with his dogs.
Survivors include his wife Amy Veldhof of Columbia City; parents Roger and Carol Veldhof of Holland, MI; siblings Gary (Michelle) Veldhof of Hudsonville, MI and Jill (Greg Anderson) Veldhof of Byron Center, MI; nephew Grahame Veldhof; niece Rylie Veldhof.
He was preceded in death by his sister Susan Veldhof.

Sotirios D. Toskos - July 11, 1933 - March 26, 2022

Obituary Preview: Sotirios "Steve" Damianos Toskos, 88, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 26, 2022, with his wife, May, by his side. Born July 11, 1933, in Vissinia, Greece, he was the son of Damianos and Vasiliki (Pantsios) Toskos.
As a child growing up in Greece during the Second World War, his grandfather would tell Steve and his siblings and cousins stories about a place called Fort Wayne, where they could work hard, earn lots of money, and always have plenty to eat. Although his education was often interrupted by the War and the Greek Civil War that followed, he was a proud graduate of the American Farm School in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he graduated at the top of his class in 1953.
After serving as a truck mechanic in the Greek Army, he immigrated to the United States in 1959 and immediately moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he married his childhood sweetheart, Thomai “May” Zikos, on May 1, 1960.
He was first employed in his uncle’s construction business in Fort Wayne, before going to work as a truck mechanic for International Harvester. In 1979, Steve and May bought Greenblatt’s Furs in Fort Wayne and operated it as a family business until their retirement in 1996. Steve and May moved to Columbia City in 1994 and he will always be remembered for visiting with everyone while working out at the local YMCA. He regularly told everyone how much he loved his adopted community.
Steve was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fort Wayne since it was first established in 1961.
Steve is survived by his wife, May Toskos; one son, Damianos (Thomai) S. Toskos of Kastoria, Greece; three daughters, Soultana (Jon) S. Myers of Columbia City, Vasiliki (Napoleon) S. Grantsaris of Crown Point and Athena (Scott) S. Metzger of Churubusco; sister, Elaine Vlahos of Garden City, New York; brother-in-law, Damianos Mantsios; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and godchildren who adored their Papou, Theo and Nouno. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marika Mantsios; and brother, Thomas Toscos.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm with a Orthodox Trisagion Prayer Service beginning at 7 pm on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be 11 am Friday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 110 E Wallen Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46825 with Fr. Cosmin Sicoe. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery in Columbia City. Jack D. Smith - March 17, 1935 - March 25, 2022

Obituary Preview: Jack D. Smith, 87, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022 from injuries sustained in a car accident. Born March 17, 1935 on the family farm in Whitley County, he was the son of Noel A. and C. Leona (Ferrell) Smith.
A lifelong resident of Whitley County, Jack graduated Jefferson Center High School with the Class of 1953 and attended Carpenter Apprentice School for 4 years. On September 25, 1954, he married M. Marie Hine. Along with being a lifelong farmer, Jack worked for C.A. Lehman Construction for 30 years doing carpenter work in Fort Wayne and R.E. Crosby for 15 years in Fort Wayne. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Huntington Moose Lodge No. 837; past member of the Columbia City Eagles, volunteer at Jefferson Township Fire Department, and 50 plus years in the Carpenter's Union.
Jack was a hard worker, always staying busy. If he was not working, you could find him tinkering in his barn. He enjoyed wood working and built many items including reindeers for Marie to paint, bird houses, benches, BBQ tables and flower pot holders. Jack was proud of his family's farm and was a recipient of the Hoosier Homestead Farm achievement of having the Ferrell-Smith Farm in the family for over 150 years.
He is survived by his children, Diane Dadisman, Jeff (Jen) Smith and Judy (Jim) Vanderford; brother, Doral (Helen) Smith; sister-in-laws, Shirley Smith, Bonnie Gillum and Wanda Hine; 8 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Aside from his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Smith; son, Bill Smith; sister, Beverly Ann Juillerat; brother, Ed Smith; and son-in-law, Marshall Dadisman.
Visitation will be 2-8 pm with a Rosary prayer to begin at 2 pm on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. The Family Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home at 8:30 am Thursday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am Thursday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, 9989 S. Growing up on the north side of Huntington, Joan attended  Huntington High School where she was a Majorette and involved with school athletics for all four years. She graduated with the Class of 1948 and went on to Ravenscroft Beauty College. On July 12, 1971, she married Dr. Edgar Murphy. Aside from being a hair dresser and phone operator during the 1960's, Joan worked as the office manager for her husband's Optometry practice in Columbia City. She was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, and the Shirts and Skirts Square Dance Group in Auburn. In her younger years, Joan enjoyed traveling and bowling. Joan found relaxation being outdoors, tending to her flowers and bird watching.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Dede (Tom) Altemus, Deb Stoppenhagen, and Sally (James) Baldridge; 6 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Aside from her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Regan Stoppenhagen; brother, Charles Morrett; and  sister, Claribel Hall.

Dorothy Mance - August 05, 1936 - March 21, 2022

Obituary Preview: Dorothy "Dottie" Mance, 85, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Monday, March 21, 2022 at her son's home. Born August 5, 1936 in Mariana, Arkansas, she was the daughter of John and Hazel (Christian) Henley.
At five months old, Dottie's family moved to Culver City, California for her dad's job. While growing up, she lived on Keystone Ave and the neighborhood children were known as the Keystone Kids. She enjoyed the typical life of children then, including hide and seek and playing kick the can. Living just two miles away from MGM Studios, she would go often to get an autograph from the Stars there and on several occasions, she watched as movies were made on her street, including "Three Guys Named Mike". She also would see other behind the scenes encounters as her dad was a carpenter for MGM.
Dottie attended Hamilton High School through the 11th grade. After high school Dottie had two children with her first husband. Unfortunately Dottie lost her daughter, Debra Paris. One evening after work in 1978, she and some co-workers were out relaxing when some gentleman approached her for a stick of gum, Melvin M. Mance. After a few evenings of seeing each other out and dancing, the two knew it was true love. Melvin was a great guy who served in the U.S. Air Force and worked for Boeing.  With a job move from California to Washington, Dottie followed Mel and on August 4, 1979, Dottie married the man of her dreams in Federal Way, WA.
She was the 1st employee of Magic Mountain Credit Union in California and when she left after 4 years, she was the manager. She had worked various jobs before retiring in 1994 from Federal Way Water & Sewer District. Dottie also had her own craft business, "Dottie's Knot". She enjoyed all sorts of craft activities including wood burning and painting. She was a member of United Methodist Church. In July 2010, she and Mel moved to Columbia City, Indiana. Dottie's life forever changed when Mel passed away at 10 p.m. Monday, September 1, 2014 after a lengthy illness. She had been a dedicated wife to him to the end, taking care of him at their home.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Jerry Paris and Barb Leonard; granddaughter, Jessica Paris; and sister-in-law, Dorothy "Dottie" Mae Henley. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hazel Henley; husband, Melvin Mance; daughter, Debra Paris; daughter-in-law, Barb Paris; sisters, Kay Couden and Lucille Johnson; and brothers, Doug Henley and Bryan Henley.   A memorial service will be 7 pm Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City with visitation beginning at 5 pm. Obituary Preview: Darwin E. Genth, age 90, of Columbia City, IN, passed away at 4:40 am on Friday March 18, 2022, at Coventry Meadows, Fort Wayne.  Born on August 21, 1931, in Fort Wayne, IN, he was the son of Howard and Elloise (Glick) Genth.
Darwin attended Washington Center High School and graduated with the Class of 1949.  He then proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy.  On July 23, 1955, he married Barbara Richardson at Washington Center United Methodist Church.
Darwin was a grain/hog farmer and worked for Essex Wire, Fort Wayne for 16 years.  He also worked for Whitley County Consolidated Schools for 32 years as a janitor and then as a bus driver until his retirement in 2002.
Darwin was a member of First Church of God, Columbia City.  He loved God and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Genth of Columbia City; children Philip (Karyle) Genth and Julie (Tom) Henney, both of Columbia City; grandchildren Shanna (Josh) English, T. Craig (Janna) Henney, Noah (Danielle) Genth, Luke (Tiffany) Genth, Lindsay (Daniel) Malicki, Jenna (Kyle) Thiele, Joel (Ashley) Genth; 2 honorary grandchildren Evelyn and Julia Valentine; 15 great-grandchildren; sister Arnola Emerick of Ossian; sister-in-law Edna Genth of Columbia City; brother-in-law Wayne VanNess of Wabash.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arnold Genth, sister Pat VanNess, and brother-in-law Robert Emerick.

Obituary Preview: Marvin Arnold Goble, age 78, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born October 24, 1943, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of Arnold and Grace (Palmer) Goble.
Marvin attended Columbia City Joint High School and graduated with the Class of 1962. On July 14, 1973, he married Jane Schmitt at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church where he served on the Financial Committee for many years.  Raising their seven children in South Whitley, he worked as the Branch Manager of the Farmer’s Loan and Trust Bank.  In looking for ways to benefit the community he initiated the Whitko Dollars for Scholars Program and loved being involved in planning events, especially the Fall Festival.
Marvin enjoyed life at the lake, watching I.U. basketball, and supporting his children and grandchildren in their many activities.
Marvin is survived by his daughters, Heidi (Brian) Krider of Columbia City, Ingrid (Mike) McClain of Larwill, Gretchen (Stan) Chalvire of North Easton, Massachusetts and Brigitte (Zach) Henson of Wichita, Kansas; sons, Adam (Kimberly) Goble of Churubusco, Brent Goble of Fort Wayne and Andrew Goble of Columbia City; 16 grandchildren; sister Marlene (Ed) Russell of Englewood, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jane, and his grandson Theo Alexander Michael Goble.

Richard attended Springfield Township High School and graduated with the Class of 1957.  He also attended DeVry Technical Institute, Chicago.  Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Airforce.  On November 26, 1970, he married Ema Lou Ellen Ness at Hope Lutheran Church, Coesse.
Richard worked for Weiss Trucking in Mongo then worked at General Electric, Fort Wayne for 30 years until his retirement in 1996.
Richard was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Coesse, Tri-State Mopar Car Club, and volunteered for IOPO, now Indiana Donor Network.  He also enjoyed tinkering on his 1969 Charger and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Ema Lou Rose of Fort Wayne; children Christine (Aaron) Bentley and Michael Rose, both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren Maggie Bentley and Joe Bentley, both of Fort Wayne; brother Ronald (Star) Rose of Wolcottville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Obituary Preview: Neva Rose Harris, 90, of Larwill, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2022 after an extended stay at Miller's at Oak Pointe. On March 22, 1931 Neva was born in Troy Township of Whitley County in an old log cabin near Troy Cedar Lake to Charles A. and Thelma (Monroe) Bills. She had four brothers and one sister.
In January of 1949, she married Phil Hull and he passed in August of 1954. In April of 1958, Neva married Kenneth "Buck" Harris. He preceded her in death in September of 1971. Neva began her work career at Blue Bell in Columbia City. For nearly 20 years, Neva worked at the Warsaw K-Mart and after retiring helped out with Passages in Columbia City.
Neva enjoyed gardening and had beautiful flower gardens everywhere. She loved spending the whole day weeding and digging. Many people stopped to admire her yard. She also loved to decorate her yard for the holidays throughout the year. Her yard would look like a wonderland at night. She was also an avid traveler. She traveled all over the United States and to many other countries. She loved to talk about her trips and getting her passport stamped.
Above all though, Neva's greatest love was her family. She is survived by her children, Steven (Laura) Hull, Arden Hull both of Larwill, Patricia Gamble of Bear Lake, Robert (Sue) Hull of Columbia City and Rhonda (Brad) Walker of Scottsburg; stepchildren, Jackie (Tim) Smith, Kenneth (Linda) Harris Jr. and Tom (Kathy) Harris; sisters-in-law Betty Bills and Pat Bills; brother-in-law, Ted Geiger; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and expecting four more on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents and both husbands, Neva was preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald Bills, Larry Bills, Paul Bills and Les Bills; sister, Margarie Geiger; daughter-in-law, Diana Hull; son-in-law, Steve Gamble; and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bills and Jeanette Bills.

She especially enjoyed visiting the ocean. She served in several ministries within the church and her favorite was in AWANA. She was a member of Merriam Christian Chapel and the Gideons Auxillary. Maudie loved her time in the Gideons Auxiliary. She enjoyed fellowship with the ladies and spreading God’s Word.

Carolyn was a past member of the Lutheran Church in Muncie.  She enjoyed gardening and spending time with all of her grandchildren.

Charlene attended Grace Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed reading, delivering books to the homebound and to the Senior Center.  Charlene also loved spending time with her family, attending her grandsons sporting events, cooking, and baking.  In addition, Charlene was a huge Indianapolis Colts and Penn State fan.
Survivors include her husband Nicholas McDevitt of Columbia City; son Scott (Brandy) McDevitt of Columbia City; grandsons Noah McDevitt and Gabriel McDevitt, both of Columbia City; mother-in-law Jean McDevitt of Columbia City; cousin Ed (Fatha) Clark of Breezewood, PA.

Virginia worked for Owens in Warsaw and Starcraft in Emma, IN.  She was a member of Collins United Methodist Church.  Virginia was an avid reader.  She also enjoyed travelling, playing euchre, and line-dancing.
Survivors include her children Vicki (Bud) Darr of Columbia City, Sharon (Robert) Brase of Fort Wayne, Carol (Richard) Long of Warsaw, and Kathy (Joe) Derheimer of Monticello, Stephen (Mary Dee) Stout of Austin, TX and Barbara (John) Campbell of Churubusco; daughter-in-law Sally Maggart of South Whitley; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Gerald Maggart, second husband Thomas Stout, brother Gerald Jones, sons Gary Maggart and Dean Maggart, and grandson Jacob Maggart.

Ross A. Binkley - August 02, 1942 - March 11, 2022

Obituary Preview: Ross A. Binkley, 79, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away Friday, March 11, 2022 at his home on Tri-Lakes with family by his side. Born August 2, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the son of Herman and Mary (O'Rear) Binkley.
After being adopted by Herman and Mary (O'Rear) Binkley, Ross was raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ross enjoyed spending time in the summer at Tri-Lakes where his parents had a lake cottage that they bought in 1945. Ross attended Plymouth Congregational Church and went to South Side High School until his senior year when he moved to Massachusetts to graduate from Great Barrington Prep School. After he returned to Indiana, he then attended I.U. School of Medicine for Mortuary Science.
As fate would have it, on June 27, 1964, Ross married Bethany I. Bond at Plymouth Congregational Church. The two had been classmates and knew each other from church when they were children. For 32 years, Ross worked at Slater Steel/ Fort Wayne Allied Division, retiring in 2001. Being an avid bicyclist, he was a member of Three Rivers Velo Sports Club. He also operated his own bike repair shop from his home, Bink’s Bikes and had taught bicycle repair classes at the Y in Fort Wayne. As much as he loved riding and going on bike tours, Ross loved the lake and everything it had to offer.
After being married and having children, he loved taking his family to his parents’ cottage on Tri-Lakes where he had many found memories. After his parents passed, he took over the family cottage. Ross was known to have the first jet ski on the lake and even against Beth’s better judgement, he taught is kids how to operate it. Motor or not, he loved any type of boating and when the weather got cold, he found excitement riding snowmobiles.
While living in Fort Wayne, they were members of Plymouth Congregational Church where Ross was a former Deacon, Usher and served on the Board of Deacons. In 2003, Ross and Beth moved from Fort Wayne to Columbia City after they built a permanent home on the lake cottage property overlooking Round Lake.
Ross is survived by his wife, Beth Binkley; son, Todd Binkley; daughters, Terri (Steve) Clampitt and Tricia (Ron) Smith; and grandchildren, Makayla Clampitt, Nicholas Clampitt, Madison Smith and Jackson Smith; step-granddaughter, Alexa (Jeremy) Johnson; and step-great -grandchildren, Josiah, Jayce, Ariya and Archer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mary Binkley and an infant granddaughter, Olivia Smith.   Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, March 17, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Obituary Preview: Marla R. Herbst, 60, of Columbia City, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, March 11, 2022 at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born November 18, 1961 in Columbia City, she was the daughter Donald W. and Betty C. (Myers) Bratt.
Growing up in rural Whitley County, Marla enjoyed time spent outdoors with her horse and family dog. She also enjoyed camping, dancing at the Eagles, going to the skating rink, and was involved with doing Pom-poms at school. Marla began her work career at a young age by working concessions at Happy Valley Skating Rink and a nurse's aid at Alfran Nursing Home when she was 16. Over the years she worked at various jobs including Dana Weatherhead, Precision Plastics, Warner Electric and currently at Kilgore Manufacturing. Marla also had worked at Big G's, Burger Chef, Hardee's, and had owned Myrt's Lunch Box.
In the spring of 1985, Marla's life forever changed one afternoon. Lance Herbst and a friend were out riding motorcycles together and stopped at The Hallway for a bite to eat.  As fate would have it, after Lance walked out, he turned back in and introduced himself to Marla.  A few years later on October 29, 1988, the two were married and created a great life together. Spending time with her family meant a lot to Marla as did being on the back of Lance's motorcycle. Marla had a great sense of humor and was known for her teasing, playing pranks, and goofing around. She just wanted everyone to have fun.  Another favorite for Marla was gambling for her entertainment either playing the weekly lottery with Lance or going to casinos with family to play the slots.
Marla is survived by her loving husband, Lance Herbst; the pride and enjoy of her life, daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Josh Kreft; grandchildren, Jaden and Jentzen; great-grandchildren, Fynn and Juniper; nieces and nephews Brandon (Melissa) Bishop, Lisa (Nick) Ostrowski, Kayla Bishop, Michael Bratt; several great-nieces and great-nephews; brother-in-law, Phil (Erika) Wolfe; and brother, Tony (Barb) Bratt. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved dog, Tuff Schmidt; mother-in-law, Rosie Wolfe; and brother-in-law, Jim Herbst.   Visitation will be 2 to 6:15 pm Friday, March 18, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Laurel attended Buchanan High School, Buchanan, MI, for two years, before moving to Whitley County in 1956.  She graduated from Columbia City Joint High School with the Class of 1958.  Laurel then attended University of St. Francis where she earned her master’s degree.  On August 10, 1968, Laurel married Nicholas Steill at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, Fort Wayne.
Laurel taught at Buchanan High School for one year before coming to Columbia City.  She worked for Whitley County Consolidated Schools as an English teacher for 38 years and was an adjunct teacher at University of St. Francis for many years.  After retirement, Laurel taught two full years at St. Francis.
Laurel was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City.
Laurel is survived by her husband Nicholas Steill of Columbia City and a cousin William (Martha) Kennedy of Niles, MI.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Obituary Preview: Margie Ann Coble, 80, of Columbia City, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Majestic Care West Allen. Born June 4, 1941 in Huntington, she was the daughter of Keith and Opal (Landrum) Wohlford.
Growing up in Bippus, Margie attended school in Huntington County. On July 12, 1958, she married Larry Lee Coble After marriage, they moved and purchased Larry's grandparents farm in rural South Whitley. She had been a nurse's aid at Timbercrest Senior Living before helping her husband operate, Coble Asphalt. After retiring in the early 2000's, they moved to Columbia City. She was a former member of the South Whitley Baptist Church.
Margie is survived by her children, Sally (Lloyd) Green, Roger Coble, Rex (Robyn) Coble, Kathy (Kevin) Ray; sister, Ester (Ron) Lancaster; brother, Dick (Carol) Wohlford; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 2016, Larry Coble; and sister, Shirley Dick.   Visitation will be 11 to 12:45 pm Thursday, March 3, 2022 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Jack Littlefield officiating. Burial will take place at South Whitley Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
