Dotsie served her community in many ways. In 1973 she started the Hooversville Hayseeders 4-H club. She was the leader for many years and the club is still active today. She enjoyed helping with Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, Shade-Central City School sports boosters, Hooversville Food pantry, and Hooversville Historical Society. Babies, children, raising singing canaries, her miniature horse Daisy, and being a farm wife (with her love Fred) brought her great joy. She will be missed by a large extended family and many friends. Obituary Preview: Irene (nee Segedy) Kubas, 91, of Stoystown, passed away peacefully at home on May 16, 2023. Born in Wilbur, Pennsylvania, Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Helen Segedy, her husband Joseph Kubas, siblings Anne Segedy, James Segedy, Helen Tober, and Mary Gelsie.  She is survived by her children Cynthia Kubas of Yardley, Nancy Kubas of Clearwater, Florida, and Joseph Kubas of Camp Hill. She will be truly missed by her children, nieces and nephews, all friends and those who loved her. Irene was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Hooversville and enjoyed baking Hungarian pastries for their bake sales and her family.  Her Hungarian nut rolls were enjoyed by all.  In her youth she enjoyed bowling with her league as well.  She was a caring wife and mother and a member of the PTA and Band Parents at Shade School District.  She maintained her wonderful sense of humor throughout her life. In later years she cared for her husband during his illness until his death in 2012 and was cared for by her son Joseph during her final time with us.  She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and word-game shows on TV until the end.  She had a love of nature - plants animals, fresh air, and instilled a love of nature in her family.  She had a big, generous heart - always made sure we had plenty of food during our visits and lots to take back. She volunteered at Somerset Hospital and with Meals on Wheels, and helped those in need with rides to the doctor, grocery shopping, etc. and was encouraging and supportive to people, enjoyed the lottery, and going gambling on the bus with her friends. Her family was the focus of her life.  Irene and Joe fell in love at the dances they used to attend, and in her final days she said that she wanted to be with Joe again, dancing like they used to do.  Always quick with a smile and joke, very much enjoying the sound of laughter, and had dinner on the table when we got home from school. The family would like to thank her close friends Louise and Laurie and to caregivers Linda and Melissa.  She loved animals and wanted any donations to be send to the Humane Society of Somerset Co., P.O. Box 182, Somerset, PA 15501. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Deaner Cremation Center, 976 Barn St., Hooversville. Joseph was a devoted father and loving husband. He was a 1965 graduate of Forbes High School.  Joseph was a Vietnam War Army/U.S. Army National Guard Veteran, serving his country for 30 years, and retired at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3.  Lifetime member of the Hooversville V.F.W. He had a thirst for knowledge, and a passion for trains, U.S. Navy warships, model railroading, model shipbuilding, and World War II history. He enjoyed reading in his spare time, taking rides around the country side to chase a train or two, and vacations with his family to Virginia Beach.  Joseph will be deeply missed, gone but never forgotten. May he join those he served with and those who died before him. For the warrior that he was, a hero he will always be. Obituary Preview: Allan Edward Stanko, 86, of Reno, NV passed away peacefully August 28, 2022. Born January 15, 1936 in Rochester, NY, Allan was the son of Edward and Fay (Pepley) Stanko. He was a proud graduate of the Valley Forge Military Academy in 1955. In 1957 he enlisted in the Army and served as a sharpshooter. His service ended with a discharge to the Reserves. At the conclusion of his military career he achieved the rank of 2nd Lt, Artillery-Army. During his time in the Reserves he continued his education at Rutgers University where he obtained his Bachelors of Science in 1962. He dedicated 25 years of his professional career to Unisys (formerly Sperry Univac) and was integral in the early computer age. After retirement he found joy serving his community as a volunteer with the Washoe County Sheriff’s department for over ten years. He was a trusted search and rescue team member and certified shooting instructor. He loved his time with the Sheriff’s department and the friends he made there. Allan is survived by his wife of 39 years, the former Sandra K. Breid; children: Scott Stanko, Nancy (Gary) Findley and Cindy (Dennis) Lassiter; and grandchildren Abby, Owen, and Madison Findley and Blake Lassiter. Private interment P.O.S. of A. Obituary Preview: Thomas M. Babalonis, 73, of Hooversville died August 17, 2022 at Windber Hospice.  Born July 25, 1949 to Charles and Elizabeth (Gregor) Babalonis. Preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Theresa, brother Chuck, and brother-in-law Raymond McGreehan. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 47 years the former Gail McGreehan; children Michael, Johnstown and Shanna and husband George Oberlick, Kentucky; cherished grandchildren Jude and Lucille Oberlick; and sisters-in-law Joyce and husband Robert Mayercsik, Susan Babalonis, and Janice McGreehan. 1967 graduate of Forbes High School. Tom started his work career working with his Uncle Bill Babalonis installing heating and plumbing.  He was an industrial electrician for Coal Junction Coal Co., First Mississippi Steel, and North American Hoganas. He served with the PA National Guard Company C, Somerset for nine years. He was Treasurer for the Hooversville Fire Co for 21 years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and served on the building committee, as well as church council and was an usher. He was a member of Hooversville Lions Club for 50 years serving as president twice. He revived Little League in the community. Tom was Scoutmaster for Troop 115 for 25 years.  He created and conducted the Laurel Mountain Trek High Adventure and the SuperEnduro Trek for 10 years for scouts who were unable to attend High Adventure scouting trips, and earned the Order of the Arrow, Wood Badge, Silver Beaver, and St. George scouting awards. Tom was a member of the Hooversville Historical Society. He served on the Frosty Sons of Thunder reunion committee for 10 years. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He also was part of the building/construction mission team that travelled to a Honduras orphanage for nine years. Tom was an avid, very talented remodeler/electrician/plumber, and also enjoyed traveling. He cherished his family and adored his grandchildren. Tom courageously fought Parkinson’s disease for 14 1/2 years. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Hooversville.
