Reynolds and Bertha (Hoax) Reynolds. John was a member of Sacred Mission where he formerly taught Sunday School. He was a very good man who loved to read the Bible and focus on Living for God. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and loved his dog Nugget. Mamie Eileen Crawford - November 01, 1927 - October 04, 2020

Obituary Preview: Mamie Eileen Crawford, 92, of Wheelersburg, died peacefully at home, Sunday, October 4, 2020.  Eileen was born to the late Carl and Mamie (Hayward) Sommer November 1, 1927.  After graduating from South Webster High School, she worked as a secretary for the Standard Oil Company, she and her husband opened and operated the former Ray Bob store in Wheelersburg.  She also worked at William’s Shoe Factory before completing her career by retiring from the National Bank of Portsmouth.  She was an excellent seamstress, loved to garden, go camping, travel and ride motorcycles and had her pilot’s license.  She was a very active member of the Vernon Senior Club and had the distinct honor of being named one of WSAZ’s Hometown Hero’s.    Eileen was a lifelong member of Lily Chapel Church of Christ.
She was blessed with seventeen nieces and nephews to whom she was a mother, grandmother and an exceptional role model.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Crawford Jr.; four brothers, Charles, Homer Ray, Howard and Wells Sommer; and a sister, Betty Sapp.

Obituary Preview: George Owen Fitch, 87, of Wheelersburg, passed away, Monday Morning September 28, 2020 at SOMC Hospice.  George was born November 11, 1932 in New Boston, a son of the late Owen and Virgie (Mussetter) Fitch.  George’s life centered around serving God as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  He worked as a butcher, then later at the New Boston steel mill, finally, he worked 13 years as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.  George was a diligent caregiver for 15 years of his wife, Delma, then fought his own battle with cancer.
George is survived by three sisters, Joanne Sparks, Judy Tinsley and Nancy Rodgers and husband Larry; two sons, Jeff and wife Janet and Joe and wife Bessy Fitch; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Delma (Adkins) Fitch; a daughter, Donna; and a brother, William Fitch.

Roy Lee Stevens, 70, of Wheelersburg went to be with the Lord on September 22, 2020 after an extended illness. He was born August 15, 1950 in Portsmouth to Mabel and George Stevens and graduated in 1969 from Portsmouth High School. He was an ARMY Veteran and served his country as a Military Police officer during the Vietnam war. He was very proud to be a Veteran and to have served his country and wore his “Vietnam Veteran” hat everywhere he went. After being honorably discharged from the ARMY in 1971, he continued his service to his community and the government by first working as a Portsmouth Deputy Sheriff before being hired at the A-Plant in 1976 where he worked as a guard until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and collecting items such as arrowheads, coins, and baseball cards and was an avid Steelers fan. He gave his heart to God in 1980 and his faith was unwavering until his death. He was especially proud of the opportunities he had to preach and lead others to the Lord.
He married the love of his life, Diana, on January 23, 1970 and she was by his side until his death. Their love for one another was unbreakable and they enjoyed having coffee, bible study, and prayer together each morning. He was a dedicated and loving father to his four children and cherished his six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He was a kind and outgoing person who could talk to anyone, had many friends, and had an infectious laugh to accompany his quick wit.
He is survived by his wife, Diana, and their four children, Dr. Wendi (Jon) Dunham, Tim Stevens, Buffi Lambojon, and Kelli Lee. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Marcus) Branch, KayLee (Megan) Sharp, Spenser Dunham, Timmy Stevens, Danneth Stevens, and Diana Lee and one great grandchild, Adania Branch.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, three brothers and one sister. He was also preceded in death by his longtime childhood friend, Hughie Blair.

Obituary Preview: Bernard Gene Rowe, 87, of Wheelersburg, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020 at his home.  He was born January 29, 1933 to the late Robert and Lula (Smith) Rowe.  Bernard served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.  He was of the Baptist Faith planting multiple churches and in his spare time enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and antiques.
Bernard is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty (Cook) Rowe; two sons, Wesley Rowe and wife Ann of Cedarville and Danny Rowe and wife Rita of Ironton; two daughters, Tonya Carver and husband James of Wheelersburg and Rhonda Tomlinson and husband Jerry of Danville, KY; two brothers, Rocky Rowe of Florida and Allie Smith of Columbus; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harold and Donald Smith, and Rodney Rowe.  A special thank you to Heartland Hospice for their services.

Tony attended Sciotodale Freewill Baptist Church, was a member of American Legion James Dickey Post #23, New Boston Eagles, and  Southern Ohio Loggers Association where he was named Regional Logger of The Year in 1996.  He liked to play Poker, bet on the Ponies, and loved watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by a son, Mark (Jessica) Spriggs of Lecanto, FL; two daughters, Amy (John) Stamper and Betty (Rick) Green, all of Wheelersburg; grandchildren, JJ and Jarrett Stamper, Tre and Olivia Spriggs, and Eric Green; two brothers, John (Ann) Spriggs of McDermott and Pat (Alice) Spriggs of Portsmouth; three sisters, Linda (Kenny) Coleman of West Portsmouth, Mary (Hank) Cantrell, and Nancy (Scott) Rammel, all of Portsmouth. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Judy Marie Dunn Spriggs; a sister, Geraldine Logan; three brothers, Earl Michael Spriggs, David Spriggs, and Walter Spriggs.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, September 10, 2020 at D.W.SWICK-NELSON FUNERAL HOME in Wheelersburg with Pastor Aaron Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Burial Park. Age 83 of Wheelersburg, went to be with the Lord Monday August 17, 2020 at SOMC.  He was born October 3, 1936 in Deering, OH to Cecil and Lillian (Winters) Nance.  Jim was a 1954 graduate of Coal Grove High School and served in the U.S. Army Reserve for eight years.  He moved to Wheelersburg in in 1962 where he owned and operated Jim’s Dairy Land and Jim’s Pit Stop for many years.  He was a member of Union Freewill Baptist Church.  Jim had a passion for gardening and spent most of his free time tending to his flowers, vegetables, blackberries, and grapes.  He never met a stranger and will always be remembered by his infectious smile and quick wit.  He enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeyes.  Above all, his ultimate pride and joy were his two grandsons, Bradley and Jayden.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Sue (Holloway) Nance; daughter, Tammy (Randy) Oppy of Harrisburg, NC; two grandsons, Bradley and Jayden Oppy of Harrisburg, NC; two brothers, Raymond Nance and Kermit (Patricia) Nance of Deering; one sister, Carol Holbrook of Coal Grove; nieces and nephews, Aimee Adkins, Alisa Weigandt, Nellie Holbrook Adkins, and Donald Holbrook; several great nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Donald Holbrook Jr., sister-in-law Dorothy Nance, niece Tina Stahl, and a nephew, Nathan Holbrook.

Age 59, of Wheelersburg, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth.  He was born March 8, 1961 in Portsmouth to father, Mick (Donna) Humble and mother, Phyllis Sexton Bremermann.  Jeff was a 1979 graduate of Minford High School.  He also had an MBA and a Doctorate of Divinity.  He was a Plastics Engineer and founder of Synergy Manufacturing.  He loved to read, enjoyed playing golf, and was a member of the Rome Lodge #535 of Stout, OH where he was a Worshipful Master, member of the Blue Lodge, Royal Arch Masons, Royal and Select Masters, Knight Templar, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Red Cross of Constantine, Royal Order of Scotland, Order of St. Thomas of Acon, York Rite Sovereign College of America, Grand College of Rite of America, Knights of Pythias, Ohio Priority #18-Knights of the York Cross of Honor, Allied Masonic Degrees of the USA, Knights Masons of the USA, Order of the Eastern Star, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest.  He enjoyed watching his daughter play soccer and was a minister of the Blue Run Christian Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 37 years, Traci, who he married on April 30, 1983; his pride and joy, daughter Madison Humble; parents, Mick and donna Humble of Wheelersburg and Phyllis Sexton Bremermann of Thousand Oaks, CA; brothers, Greg (Crissy) Humble of Hunterville, NC, Jack (Elyse) Warren of Thousand Oaks, CA; sister, Thea (Cliff) Fory of Boulder, CO; mother-in-law, Sherral Grable; brother-in-law, Tim Grable; and several nieces and a nephew; special High School friends and golf companions, Chris Conley and Buck Whitely; special friend and business associate, Terry Natale.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Raymond and Elsie Humble, Lee and Dorothy Patton, Bob and Mildred Hosey; father-in-law, Charles Grable.

Age 78, of Wheelersburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth.  She was born July 21, 1941 in Columbus to Chester Rightmire and Mary Louise (Schwamberger) Wessel.  Mary was a 1959 graduate of Wheelersburg High School and Portsmouth Interstate Business College, graduating in 1961.  Professionally, Mary worked for the FBI in Washington D.C for 2 years in the J. Edgar Hoover Building, Mitchellace here in Portsmouth, Porter Township Rescue for 27 years, and as an EMS dispatcher for 13 years.  She made a difference in many children’s lives by serving as a Scioto County foster parent for 25 years.  Mary enjoyed quilting and donated her quilts to children at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Scott Gee of Portsmouth, Daniel Joseph Gee of Wheelersburg, Adam Todd Gee of Columbus, Randall Lee Gee of Wheelersburg; daughter, Sandra Kay (Randy) Phipps of Sciotoville; sisters, Phyllis Ann (Russell) Shanks of Baltimore, OH, Bernita Carol Wessel of Nelsonville; grandchildren, Nathan, Kelsey, Kim, Jason, Emily, Becky, Keith, Chris, Brandon, Ethan, Breanna, Bradley, Alexis; thirteen great-grandchildren; special friend, Clare Elliott of Nelsonville.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Carl Lee Gee; daughter, Mandy Jo Gee.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Sue) Schneider Williams of Wheelersburg; one son, Cecil (Clay) Williams III and wife, Amanda of Portsmouth; two daughters, Robyn Ann Bolton and husband, David of Smyrna, TN; Kimberly Dawn Shupert and husband, Paul of Wheelersburg; two sisters, Vickie Lynn Schneider and husband, Randy of Dry Ridge, KY; Kathy Ann Taylor of Mansfield; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  He was also preceded in death by a sister Brenda Dempsey.

She enjoyed being in a pool, being outdoors, and riding on a 4-wheeler.  She was a beautiful woman, inside and out, is now walking with God, has no more pain, and is at peace.

Alma Mae Sexton - May 17, 1921 - April 17, 2020

Obituary Preview: Alma Mae (Bazler) Sexton passed away on April 17th at Best Care Nursing and Rehabilitation in Wheelersburg. She was the widow of the late Marvin Sexton of Wheelersburg, having married him on August 14, 1945, the day WWII ended, with their marriage lasting 65 years.  Alma was born May 17, 1921 in Portsmouth to Wallace and Pearl (Spence) Bazler.
She is preceded in death by husband Marvin, daughter Barbara Evans, brothers Jack, Don, and James; sisters Mildred Parker, Ruth Snyder, and Mary Rogers.
Alma is survived by sons, Wayne (Larissa) Sexton of Greensboro NC, and Stephen Sexton of Wheelersburg.  In addition, she is survived by 10 grandchildren: Damon Sexton of Arlington, VA, Evan Sexton of Ft. Wayne, IN, Alec Sexton of Boston, MA, Aaron Sexton of Jacksonville, FL, Matthew Sexton of Ironton, OH, Rebecca Gentile of Ashland, KY, Jessica Leesburg of Stateville, MS, Katherine Miller of Wheelersburg, Brent Evans of Pilot Mountain, NC, and Mindy Evans of Ashland, KY; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Alma was of the Christian faith, accepting the Lord at Carey's Run Church of Christ, later a member of Valley Methodist Church of Rosemount.  She graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1939, worked in defense plants in Columbus during WWII, and was a member of the Rosemount Garden Club in the 1950s and 60s.  She was a homemaker, focusing on raising her family, collecting antiques and taking pictures.  Later in life she and Marvin enjoyed traveling and camping.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the caring staffs of Riverbend Assisted Living, Best Care, and SOMC Hospice.  A private burial took place for immediate family only at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.  It is the family's wish that any memorial contributions be made to SOMC Hospice.

Age 90, of Wheelersburg, passed into the loving hands of her precious Lord and Savior on April 13, 2020.  Surviving are her five children, Gary (Brenda) Clinger of Belle, WV, Sheila (Ronald) Jackson of Minford, Anita (Clinton) Fouch of Piketon, Cathy (Adam) Forshey of Wheelersburg, and Jeffory (Patsy) Clinger of Piketon; 14 grandchildren, Traci Brantley, Gary Clinger, II, Lisa Lowder, Eric and Kirk Jackson, Clinton, Gregory, and Jonathan Fouch, Marilyn (Josie) Collier, Aimee Ward, Adam Forshey, Jr., Megan Noble, Annie and Zachory Clinger; 32 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are her sisters, Delphia Maggard of Wheelersburg, Wanda Hurst of Hamilton, Emily (Harold) Elkins of Bellefontaine, and Sharon (Louis) Rawlins of Wheelersburg; brother, Howard “Joe” (Anna) Adkins of Wheelersburg.  She was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Archie Clinger; her parents, Alvin and Anna Adkins; brothers, William “Jackie”, Earl, Raymond, Ronald, and Marvin Adkins; and one sister, Wilma Rawlins.
Ruia was born in Elliott County, KY on January 20, 1930 and was the eldest of 12 children.  She was often heard saying that she was taking care of babies when she was just a baby.  Her family meant all the world to her and her passing leaves an ache in all their hearts.  Though she traveled, she was never as happy as she was when she was with family.  She was a homemaker and never too busy to take time to play games with the children and grandchildren, cook up special meals, shop, and enjoy parties.
A special thank you to SOMC Hospice nurses and caregivers for the time and attention given to Ruia during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be private for the family due to the national health advisories.  They will be held at D.W. Betty Ann Lewis - November 14, 1920 - March 27, 2020

Obituary Preview: Betty Ann Lewis is remembered by all as a gracious, loving, and amazing mother and friend.  At age 99, she went to be with the Lord at SOMC Hospice in Portsmouth on March 27, 2020.
Betty was born November 14, 1920 in Moline, Illinois to Lysle and Marie (McFarland) Lavender.  She married Wilbur Charles Lewis in 1941 and was married to him until his death in 1997.
Betty was employed at Royal Neighbors, Rock Island, and eventually joined the John Deere and Company staff in 1958 where she worked in a number of secretarial positions. She retired from Deere as a Legal Secretary in the Law Department, having been with the company for 25 years.  Betty was a long-time member of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church and later attended First Christian Church in Moline.  She was a renowned organizer for  her high school reunions, which most recently included her 70th reunion. Betty enjoyed playing the organ, visiting her family and friends and traveling all over the world. She had many friends at Hillview Retirement Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, where she resided.
Betty is survived by her son, David Lewis of Wheelersburg; grandchildren, Cheryl (Chuck) Giles, Michelle (Bradley) Teeters; seven great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and special niece, Debbie Holt. In addition to immediate family, Betty and her husband enjoyed spending time with their “adopted” granddaughter, Sharon Furlong and her family. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur Charles Lewis; brother, Robert Lavender; sisters, Jan Holt, and Charlene “Chuckie” Holloway.

Age 81, of Wheelersburg, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Best Care in Wheelersburg.  She was born October 26, 1938 in Salt Rock, WV to Roy and Sarah (Osborne) Hale.  Ida was a 1956 graduate of Wheelersburg High School and married her husband, John, on March 27, 1961.  She retired after 25 years as a Unit Clerk with Mercy Hospital and Southern Ohio Medical Center.  Ida was of the Baptist faith and in her free time enjoyed cooking, crocheting, and shopping.
She is survived by her son, Tony (Kelli) Dyer of Wheelersburg; daughters, Vicki (Jeff) Ison of Franklin Furnace, Kristi (Gene) Smith of Wheelersburg; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Newsome of Maysville, KY.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 2019; one brother in infancy.

Age 93, of Franklin Furnace, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Concord Health and Rehabilitation in Wheelersburg.  He was born December 23, 1926 in Ohio Furnace to Elza and Maudie (Porter) Johnson.  Elza honorably served his country during WWII as a member of the U.S. Army, 33rd Division Infantry and married Mary Stapleton on February 4, 1949 in Wheelersburg. Upon his return to civilian life he worked in the construction industry.  Elza was a member of Local 83 and a big Ohio State Buckeye fan.  He enjoyed going to church, woodworking, and spending time with his beloved dogs, Blackie, Buddy, and Lady.  He was a member of Jeanette’s Creek Christian Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sons, Richard (Terri Sue) Johnson of Tulsa, OK, Bobby (Marietta) Johnson of Franklin Furnace; daughters, Diana Hineman of Franklin Furnace, Pamela (Steve) Lute of McDermott; brother, Columbus Johnson of Dayton; sister, Stella Green of Wheelersburg; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 2018; son, Paul Michael; six brothers; three sisters.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at D.W. Doug is survived by his wife, Sue (Swick) Farmer of Wheelersburg; son, Doug Farmer of Hickory, NC; stepson, Jeff (Nicole) Shonkwiler of Gatesville, TX; stepdaughters, Cindy (Tony) Lindamood of Sciotoville and Jaime (Ben) Peffley of Wheelersburg; grandchildren, Brittany (Tyler) Grimmett of Milton, WV, Alex Lindamood of Sciotoville, Meagan Peffley of Wheelersburg, Maddy Lindamood of Sciotoville, Trey, Brock, and Jeffrey Shonkwiler of Gatesville, TX, Erica, Christine, and Karyn Shonkwiler of Germany; and two spoiled fur babies, Oliver and Jack.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Priscilla Sturm and a beloved grandson, Andrew Farmer.
