Mercedes Allen-Winbush - August 16, 1958 - December 02, 2023

Departed: 12/02/2023 (Rochester)
Obituary Preview: Click Below To Watch Service: https://youtube.com/live/08eTnMV8OvQ?feature=share
Mercedes Allen Winbush, cherished daughter of Mattie B. Allen and William H. Allen, was born on August 16, 1958, in Detroit Michigan. She was an exceptional student and graduated from Cass Technical High School. Her ambition and drive led her to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. Mercedes led an exemplary career as one of the first black female chemical engineers in her department at Xerox in Rochester, New York, earning a US patent for her contribution. She later completed her Master’s in Education at Nazareth College and pursued her love for teaching. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Webster Central School District.
Mercedes Winbush, a woman of love and commitment, met Darrel Winbush in college at Wayne State University. Their love blossomed and they were joined in holy matrimony on October 25, 1984. Their love multiplied with three well-loved children. Mercedes was a caring, selfless, and active mother. Whether it be soccer games, baseball games, recitals, or school events, Mercedes always made time to support and encourage her children. Eventually, she welcomed one grandchild in 2014. She embraced and cherished her role as a grandmother and had a substantial influence on her granddaughter Jordyn’s, early life. Pushing her and guiding her, she only wanted the best for Jordyn. Mercedes’ legacy of love will forever live on in the hearts of those she has touched.
Music was a significant aspect of Mercedes’ life. She was a talented, passionate, and classically-trained musician. She played countless instruments - flute, violin, and harp - to name a few; but her primary instrument of choice was the piano. She began piano lessons as a young girl and weaved her musical skills effortlessly into her adult life. Mercedes was a diligent music teacher at Webster Montessori School and an accompanist for many school choirs in the Webster Central School District. She taught piano lessons to aspiring young children and to excited adults seeking to learn the basics. Mercedes also led the youth choir at Central Church of Christ and frequently performed at various church and community events, weddings, and concerts. She loved classical music (if you knew her, you knew her favorite composer was Beethoven), but she was also a soulful musician and adored gospel music. Her go-to songs in her repertoire were beloved gospel songs and church hymns from her childhood.
Mercedes understood the value in education first hand. She pushed her children to excel academically and fully supported their academic endeavors. Mercedes also understood the value of faith. She was a devoted Christian woman with an unwavering faith and shared her faith with her family. She attended the Central Church of Christ regularly and would give singing and musical advice as needed. When her health limited her physical presence, she would tune in to the online services of Schraeder Lane Church of Christ at home with her family every Sunday.
Mercedes is survived by her loving sons Marcqus and Damon, adoring daughter Madison, beloved granddaughter Jordyn, and devoted husband Darrel. She is mourned by her loving sister Marquettas. In celebrating Mercedes’ life, let us remember her as a passionate musician, dedicated educator, loving family member and friend, and an overall beautiful human being. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her

Peter Bibby - June 28, 1942 - November 30, 2023

Departed: 11/30/2023 (Rochester)
Obituary Preview: Click Below To Watch Service: https://youtube.com/live/uhoF9lHu9p8?feature=share Peter Lowell Bibby was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey on June 28, 1942 to the late Elizabeth Henrietta Williams and James Lowell Woolford. His education began at the Temple University Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and continued at Trenton Jr. College in Trenton New Jersey where he earned an Associate in Arts degree. In 1966 after
completing a three year military tour (Army), he came to Rochester, NY to work for Eastman Kodak in their Governmental Optical Research Division.
Observations made while working with local community groups and programs drove him to return to education. He opted not to teach (Art) but to become a counselor for at risk students. He then went on to develop and administer (with/for the Center for Community Issues Research) the Youth Advocacy Project Direct service program as a successful demonstration project. That effort later became Monroe County Youth Advocacy. Peter continued his education through the University of Rochester’s Adolescent/Pre-Adolescent Clinic, an internship at the Convalescent Hospital, Adelphi University and the Adelphi Training Institute for graduate studies for program development to address curriculum needs of children who demonstrate disruptive behavior. He was a youth worker/ counselor and program coordinator for Action for a Better Community Youth Services, counselor and art director for the Mighty Liberators Drum Corp, program director for Eastside Community Center and Community Place of Greater Rochester’s youth and family services programs, a mentor, a big brother, and a program consultant.
Peter operated a commercial design studio in the heart of downtown Rochester for twelve years that housed an apprenticeship/mentoring program for young artists to develop their skills. As a free lance artist/illustrator Peter’s art and designs have been seen for many years on magazine covers, advertising, and promotional displays and as part of a number of exhibits at Rochester Institute of Technology, Keuka College, Nazareth and St. John Fisher colleges, Monroe Community College, Rochester City Hall, Chase Lincoln Bank, the Visual Studies Workshop and in galleries in Washington, DC, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and New York City. Peter was always, first and foremost, an artist. In thirty-five years with Center for Dispute Settlement he became dedicated to peacemaking. Involvement with CDS included: the development of Court alternative programs including Youth and family mediation programming, victim- offender mediation, housing and contractor arbitration programs, Special Education Mediation. In addition, his work included thirty-three years of Police/Community Relations programs that includes the Rochester Police Department Complaint Investigation Committees (2) and Civilian Review Board as a panelist, an administrator, and also as a trainer for community and law enforcement. Peter served as, a Center for Dispute Settlement board member for eleven years (an officer for five years), and a mediator called upon by the NYS Court Seventh Judicial administration’s Mediation Alternatives Program (MAP) to provide conflict resolution services and mediate disputes. He also served on the Seventh Judicial Advisory Board for the Administrative Judge for two years as well as provided anger management group training for inmates in Monroe County alternative to incarceration programs. In 1991 Bibby served as the mediator for an unprecedented meeting that took place in the Elmira State Corrections facility between the victim of a murder attempt and his assailant. The meeting was filmed and televised by HBO nationally. This was the beginning of what has become known as restorative justice. Acknowledgements have been numerous over the years of community service and include the Center for Dispute Settlement Janus Award in 1989, JC Penny Golden Rule Award, and the Urban League Volunteer Service Award,
appreciations from the Administrative Judges of the NYS Unified Court System and the Seventh Judicial District and he State Court Community Dispute Resolution Centers Program (CDRCP).
Peter loved tennis and was avidly involved in the African American tennis community, Ball Attack, and was grateful for the relationships fostered in this community.
Peter is survived by his children: Sherri Gaines (Atlanta, GA), Eboni (Jeremy) Lewis (Rochester, NY), Shawn Bibby (Rochester, NY), Wendi (Gerald) Henderson-Wyatt (Columbus, GA), Bobbi Campbell-Jeffries (Pittsburgh, PA), Peter L. Campbell (Rochester, NY), Nikki (Anthony) Bibby-Poe (Woodbridge, NJ), and Maya Bibby (Rochester, NY). He is also survived by a host of grand and great-grandchildren.
