Henry Dayton O’Quinn, age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at his home. He was born on October 15, 1943 in Washington County Virginia to the late Morgan and Frances Sanders O’Quinn. Dayton lived a life marked by quiet acts of kindness and a profound love for children and animals. He was a humble man with a selfless heart. He always loved long walks, and spending time outside. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by three brothers, George, Norman, and Marvin O’Quinn; and three sisters, Mary Douglas, Mammie Musick, and Gladys Mutter.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving sisters, Bertha Cardwell, Viola Thompson, Oma Spence, and Edna Powers; he is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.
Following Dayton’s wishes there will be no services.

Jeffrey Wayne Dinsmore, Sr., age 76, of Saltville, VA, a beloved husband, father, brother, and papa, passed away on April 29, 2024, at Johnston Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on November 30, 1947, in Smyth County to the late Roy and Effie Dinsmore. Throughout his life he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved watching old westerns, especially those with John Wayne in them. He was a retired mechanic from Emory and Henry College. In his free time, he enjoyed fixing and working on small engines.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his brothers, Gene, Dennis, Curtis, Charles, Mike, Frank, Sammy, Robert, Roy, and Johnny; his sisters, Gladys Robinson, Mary Taylor, Dot Nichols, Cheryl Pizzaro, Jean Dinsmore, and June Dinsmore; his daughter, Barbara Robbins; son, Michael Smith; and granddaughter, Brittany Williams.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 38 years, Freda Gates Dinsmore; his sons, Allen Dinsmore (Tammy), Steven Smith, and Jeff Dinsmore (Kay); daughters, Leslie Williams (Frankie), and Tina Olinger (Lewis); son-in-law, Russell Robbins; sisters, Lois Doane (Buster) and Terry Brown; and brother, Donnie Dinsmore; 12 grandchildren, Jadon and Kayla Dinsmore, Patricia Waddell, Stephanie Barker, Stacey Williams, Tristen and Paige Olinger, Madison Trivitt, Austin Robbins, Cody Smith, Colton and Landon Dinsmore; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Cathy Barrett (Neal) and Diane Allison; one brother-in-law, Con Gates; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved sidekick his dog, Gypsy.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 7 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Frye officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Wayne Tolbert, Lewis Olinger, Gary Waddell, Noah Trivitt, Russell Robbins, and George Norris will be serving as pallbearers.

Billy “Boo” Wayne Smith, beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20, 2024. He was born on March 26, 1941 in Smyth County, Virginia to the late Jack and Belle Smith. Throughout his life he was always a farmer, spending his days under the sun working the land. He was a skilled machinist at Titan Wheel until his well-deserved retirement. Billy's passion for farming extended beyond his own fields; he was always eager to lend a hand to neighbors and friends, offering his expertise to repair farming equipment and support anyone in need. He enjoyed tending to his garden and raising goats, but most importantly spending time with his family. His hard work ethic, kindness, and love for all of his friends and family will always be remembered by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by four brothers, Jack Smith, Jim Smith, Bud Smith, and Gail Smith; and also, two sisters, Polly Call, and Betty Hash.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 62 years, Ruth Ann Smith; his son Michael Smith and husband Randall Vaught; sister, Jane Call and husband Bill; brother, Paul Smith; also, several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to his sister-in-law, Carolyn Owens, Anita Hess who went above and beyond and was like a daughter to Billy to whom he referred to as “Lucy”, Steve Lindamood, Scott DeBord, Hal Campbell, and Jackie Gillespie for all of their love and care. They were excellent caregivers.
Flowers are appreciated, but donations may also be made to the Riverside Church.
Funeral services for Billy will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Riverside Church with Pastor Mack Blevins officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 1 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service, burial will follow at the Riverside Church Cemetery. Tom Buchanan, Hal Campbell, Wilbert Holmes, Joel “Koolaid” Perry, Steve Lindamood, and Scott DeBord will be serving as pallbearers. Camping at Rural Retreat Lake held a special place in his heart, and he enjoyed every minute spent there. Bobby's legacy of hard work, love for family, and passion for nature will be remembered by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Bobby is also preceded in death by his three brothers, Thomas Olinger, Donald Olinger, and James Olinger; four sisters, Linda Snavely, Ruth Farmer, Deanie Blevins, and Peggy Snavely.

He was a devoted Christian who was a member of Little Flock Holiness Church. He was known for being a hard worker and was always full of energy. Jackie’s free time was spent enjoying the outdoors, hunting and fishing, but with a particular passion for pursuing whitetail deer and turkey. Above all he loved his family, he cherished every moment he spent with those dear to him. Jackie will be deeply missed by his loving family and all who knew him. His memory will live on in the fields he tended, the woods he roamed, and the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to call him friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Della Maxwell Trent; his wife, Mazie Compton; two brothers, Earl and Lewis Trent; and four sisters, Nellie McCracken, Helen Carol, Marthie Owens, and Mary Milhorne.

Doris Rose, affectionately known as Patsy, was born on January 31, 1937, and went to be with her Heavenly Father on April 3, 2024, after a lengthy illness.
Preceding her in death was her husband of over 70 years, Everett Rose; mother, Flossie Stanley; and granddaughter, Madalyn Bock.
Patsy was a member of Mountain View First Church of God and later the Chilhowie First Church of God, actively serving for many years until her health declined. She was a loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her legacy is one of a life of love and commitment to the Lord, her family, friends, and community. Patsy let the Light of the Lord shine through her and was an inspiration to all.
Patsy’s passion was cooking and feeding everyone she could reach. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, known for its warmth and unforgettable sourdough bread, fudge, and country style steak among many other dishes which she graciously shared with everyone. Patsy’s memory will be a blessing to her family and live on in our hearts forever.
Her spirit is carried on by daughters Teresa Frye (Jeff), Laura Bock (Tim); son David Rose (Joanne); grandsons, Josh Frye, Zach Frye (Sarah), and Nathan Bock; great-granddaughters, Kennedy Frye and Mattie Rose Frye.
A visitation to honor and celebrate Patsy’s life will be held from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, VA. prior to the procession to the cemetery. The graveside services will begin at 3:00 PM at Mount Pleasant Church Cemetery, Valley Road, Saltville, VA 24370 with Rev. Bobby Dunn and Pastor Michael Rysko officiating.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Josh Frye and Nathan Bock, sons-in-law, Jeff Frye and Tim Bock, cousins, Rick and Stacy Poston. Honorary Pallbearers will be Zach Frye, Gerald Hall, and Robert Osborne. Special thanks to the most excellent Serenity House staff and volunteers, Smokey Mountain Hospice, and Morristown-Hamblen Hospital and all the compassionate people in Morristown who cared for “our Patsy.”

Donnie grew up in Glade Spring, VA and was a 1985 graduate of Patrick Henry High School. He had a 15-year career with Bristol Compressors where he was a skilled machinist. He enjoyed Sunday trail rides on his horse. But above all he loved his family. His son Derek was his pride and joy, he loved to spend time with him helping with cattle. He never met a stranger and had many special friends. His witty sense of humor and his kindness will be missed by all who knew him.
Including his parents, Donnie is also preceded in death by his two brothers, David Carson “Big Dave” Coleman, and Joe Owens Coleman; and baby sister, Pamela Sue Coleman.
Left to cherish his memory is his son Derek Coleman (Zeb Miller) of Meadowview, VA; sisters, Sandra Richardson (Charles) of Piney Flats, TN, Donna Broyles (Danny) of Glade Spring, VA, Bonnie Owens (Bo) of Meadowview, VA; his brother, Jerry Coleman (Michael) of Abingdon, VA; special friend, James Hamm; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

James Eric Worley, age 41, went to be with the Lord on March 29, 2024 on Good Friday. He is now singing and praising Jesus with the Angel band. Eric was known for his many talents. He loved singing and playing the guitar, but his number one love and light of his life was Colt; his son.
The last year of his life have been filled with ups and downs; a lot of health battles that he tried his best to overcome, with his son as his main motivation. Eric will be sorely missed by many.
He is preceded in death by his father, Michael Worley; grandparents, Garland and Ruth Worley, Sexton Coe, and Delaphine Colley.
Eric is survived by his mother, Susie Worley; his son, Colt Worley; brothers, Kevin Boyd (Wendy), Michael Burgess (Jennifer); special niece, Chelsey Burgess; special cousin, Sonni Neal; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins that he loved dearly; his best friends, Andy Surber, Thumper Salyer, David Woodward, and Jason Wasson.

Stanley Middle School.  In his 11 years, Jesse touched the lives of many, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever. While his time with us was brief, the impact he made will live in the hearts of all who knew him.
Jesse was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Jesse Wilson, Carl and Margie Stanley; grandfather, Dennis Stamper; and great-aunt, Wilma Lou Wilson.

Together, they navigated life's journey as inseparable partners. Jerry worked for 30 years at Kennametal until his retirement. He will be missed by all of his friends and family.

He loved to fish, loved to watch trains with Marcus, and most of all he liked trying different mountain restaurants and Chinese food was his favorite. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paskchal S. and Laura Puckett; sisters, Frances Parsons, and Geri Lovett; brothers, Ernest, Benny, and Bobby Puckett.
Paskchal is survived by his sisters, Mary Cardwell, Sharon Ferguson, Beverly Puckett, and Lavelle Puckett; his great nephew, Marcus D. Barnes that he raised as his son; and several nieces and nephews.

Zola was employed as an extension agent in District 3, she taught quilting at Bluefield College, and was also a substitute teacher in the Smyth County School system. Her many hobbies included the Busy Bee Quilters, basket weaving, painting, embroidery, knitting, sewing, crochet, needle pointing, and taking care of her chickens and peacocks, and she loved to help her neighbors and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, William E. Evans; her daughter, Mary Ann Harris; grandson, Ethan Coe; brothers, Eugene Davidson, Wayne Davidson; and sister, June Davidson.

Emory “Everett” Rose of Saltville Virginia went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 2, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born May 6, 1936, to Eugene and Maudie Debord Rose. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Henry Rose, Helen White, Malcolm Rose, Tommy Rose and Gerald Rose, and granddaughter Madalyn Bock.
Everett is survived by his wife and love of his life of over 70 years, Patsy Stanley Rose. Also surviving is his son, David Rose (Joanne); daughters, Teresa Frye (Jeff), and Laura Bock (Tim); grandsons, Josh Frye (Lori), Zach Frye (Sarah), and Nathan Bock; and great-grandchildren, Kennedy Frye and Mattie Frye.
Everett was a devout Christian and member of Chilhowie First Church of God. He was passionate about attending church every time the doors were open and loved attending gospel singing events all over the area. Everett is held in the highest regard by all of his family who are so proud and grateful to have been the recipients of his love and dedication to them. His family and friends will greatly miss his regular FaceTime calls and especially his jokes and truck driver stories.
From an early age, Everett loved driving trucks and did so until he was 85 years old. In the beginning of his career Everett worked for the Town of Saltville as a backhoe driver where he discovered salt kettles from the Confederate days which are on display at the County Courthouse in Marion. He then worked for Olin Chemical Company and later graduated from the North Carolina State Truck Driving School at the head of his class. After retiring from ABF Trucking Company, Everett enjoyed driving for Kegley Trucking hauling milk to Asheville, NC. He looked forward to his time with the guys at the shop and all the great eating events they invited him to. Everett has a wall of “Million Mile” awards for his safe driving for many years. “Rosebud” was loved and respected by fellow truckers all over the Southeast.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Chilhowie First Church of God from 11 until 1 p.m. Following the visitation there will be a funeral procession to Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Saltville, VA for graveside services.

She also loved her great-nephew, Eden and cousin Eva who she saw as her very own. Her friendly smile, caring heart, and loving kindness will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Everyone is thankful for the assurance that this separation is only temporary.

She started school in Buckeye and then moved to Glade Spring, where she graduated Glade Spring High School in 1957.
Katie was known by many as an avid quilter who worked with professional level craftsmanship. For several years she quilted with a group of ladies at the Church of the Nazarene, and then later joined up with the Busy Bee Quilters at Broadford as well as a smaller group in Glade Spring. With these ladies she spent many hours in friendship and enjoyment of their craft. They became like family to her.
Above all else, Katie cherished her family and devoted herself entirely to them. She was the consummate homemaker and as her children began preparing for college, she returned to work in several local sewing factories as a trainer and an inspector for Buster Brown, Harwood, and Natalie.
In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom Hyman Sr.; her son, Tommy Hyman; her brother, James “Bubby” Lester; her sisters-in-law, Anna Lester, Attie Talbert, Ruth Woodward, Bea Allison, and Wanda Lester; and brothers-in-law, Buddy Hyman, Cleveland Woodward, and Sam Talbert.
Katie is survived by her daughters Tina Surber and husband Randy, Eleanor Desai, grandchildren Katie and husband Bobby, Amy, Patrick, Samantha & Alex, great-grandchild Madelyn and beloved brother Bill Lester, and a host of relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Stuart Thompson Pratt, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, February 25, 2024. Stuart the only son of the late Marion Thompson Pratt and Nina Kate Buchanan Pratt of Rich Valley, was a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, Child of God, and friend to all. Simultaneously humble and bigger than life, he made all he knew feel like they were the most important person in the world.
Stuart graduated from Rich Valley High School and kept in touch with many of his classmates. He graduated from Hiwassee College and earned a BS and Masters Degrees from Virginia Tech in Animal Science. He served in the United States Army.
Stuart had a big heart, worked as hard as anybody you would ever meet, loved hard, and never met a stranger. Farming was his lifeline. Never was he happier than to be roaming the hills of the farm, taking a nap under a big oak tree, or leaning against a fence post talking shop with another farmer. He never needed a lot of equipment, due to the help of his faithful farmhands, his four sons. The land was his happy place.
Stuart is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dreama Spence Pratt. She was the love of his life, and he often called her his angel from Heaven. Dreama devoted her time to caring for Stuart as his Parkinson’s disease progressed. His four sons brought him great joy and pride; Todd Pratt (Monique), Tim Pratt (Carrie), James Pratt (Sherri) and Stephen Pratt (Angel). His grandchildren were his pride and joy; Brigette, Melissa, Spencer, Anna Kate, Ella Kate, Teagan, and Conner Pratt, and Emma and Eli Atwell. Completing the circle are his sisters, Marion Griffin, Eleanor Wassum, Linda DiYorio (John), and Jane Clark. Stuart never completed a phone call without telling his family he loved them.
