Obituary Preview: Donald M. Kretzer of Coffeyville, Kansas peacefully passed away at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas on March 24, 2024 at the age of 62. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Don was born on June 10, 1961 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Emeral “Elaine” and Marion “Coot” Kretzer. He grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri and Denver, Colorado. He married Marjorie (Waller) on October 3, 1992 and they have two sons and a daughter-in-law, Joseph, Alec and Tori. His family lived in Houston, Texas for over 25 years where he worked and retired from United Airlines. Don and Margie recently retired to Coffeyville, Kansas where Don worked part-time at Hillcrest Golf Course.

Don never met a stranger. He had a servant's heart and a loving nature. Don enjoyed being outdoors, including hunting, fishing, playing golf and volunteering in the sports program at his previous church.

Don is preceded in death by maternal grandparents Donald and Flora Morlock, his paternal grandparents John Kretzer and Marjorie Kretzer Higdon and his father Marion (Coot) Kretzer. He is survived by his wife Marjorie (Waller), his sons Joseph and Alec (Tori), his mother Emeral (Elaine), his sister Vicki Hardesty (Jesse), his brothers Barry and Greg (Shannon) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of life service will take place on April 4, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. in Houston at Champion Forest Baptist Church - Champions Campus with a visitation hour beginning at 1:00 p.m.

There will also be a second Celebration of Life service in St. Joseph, Missouri. More details will be announced later on.

Martha Rubio Melgosa - March 08, 1931 - March 24, 2024

Obituary Preview: Martha Rubio Melgosa passed peacefully on March 24, 2024, at age 93 in her home surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born in Havana, Cuba on March 8, 1931, to Manuel and Maria del Carmen Rubio.

As a young child, Martha’s family moved to Santiago de Cuba and later to Punta Gorda, Cuba. She had very fond memories growing up at the beach with her family and friends. Martha was a champion competitive swimmer and diver at the Club de Pesca. She graduated from the Escuela del Hogar “Oriente” in Santiago de Cuba where she studied Home Economics. On November 3, 1957, she married Rafael Pablo Melgosa. He and his family loved her dearly. In 1961, Rafael, Martha and daughter Martha immigrated from Cuba to the United States fleeing Communism. They eventually moved to Amarillo, Texas where Rafael continued his employment with Texaco. Their daughters Diana Maria and Maria Elena were born in Amarillo. The family moved frequently with Texaco. In 1981, they moved to Houston into their final home. Martha was involved in her community and in her daughters’ and grandchildren’s lives, making lifetime friends throughout her life. She was known as Mama to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many that loved her.

Martha was beautiful, inside, and out, and never met a soul that she did not embrace with love and compassion. She radiated life with love, devotion, and empathy. Her vibrant love for people and enjoyment of life was contagious. Her grandchildren held a very special part of her heart. She enjoyed traveling, baking, gardening, painting, sewing, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rafael, her daughters Martha Romig (David), Diana Mika (Joe) and Maria Elena Smith (Russ), eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, her sister Lucy Rodriquez, nieces and nephews, her wonderful caregivers and many of their friends and her daughters’ friends that loved and knew her well.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a future date. Obituary Preview: Jason Randell Posten, 46, resident of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 15, 2024. He was born on November 11, 1977, to Chuck and Susan Posten, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Jason grew up in Sugar Land, Texas. This is where he would spend days in the backyard pool, riding bikes and his skateboard, and spending time with friends. While in high school, he started his own lawn mowing business with a lawn mower and his truck.

After graduating from Kempner High School, Jason attended Tomball College, where he completed his studies with a certificate in IT Technology. He also attended courses at A&M University to obtain his irrigation license.

Jason held a few positions in the IT field before he began working with his father and his landscaping company, Turf’s Up Landscape.

Jason had a kind, loving nature that allowed him to have a friend in everyone he would stop and talk to. He enjoyed speaking to anyone that would listen and exchange stories and life experiences. He had several hobbies, and was always interested in increasing his knowledge of computers, electronics, cars, woodworking, landscape design, just to name a few. He spent the last few years living with, and taking care of, his grandmother, Jean Pierce.

Jason is survived by his mother, Susan Posten-Forrest, sisters, Kimberly Kalas and Melissa Leick, grandmother Jean Pierce, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chuck Posten, grandfather John Pierce, and grandparents Don and Melba Thomas.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 3rd, at 10am. Services will be held at the First Baptist Tomball Church, Fellowship Hall, located at 401 Oxford St.,Tomball, Texas, 77375. The Hall is located at the corner of Oxford and North Oak.

Audrey was a devoted, religious woman who faithfully served the Lord throughout her life and taught in the children's ministry. Her unwavering kindness and care were evident in her dedicated support for family members during times of sickness, and she served as a devoted caretaker for her sister in her later years. She enjoyed watching basketball, baseball, and football games, as well as listening to gospel music and engaging in arts and crafts. She especially relished spending quality time and playing games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Audrey is survived by her brother, Tom Wisely, of Sun City, FL, and her children: Janet Rich Schulz of Houston, TX; Jim Rich of Katy, TX; Jerrall Rich of Charlotte, NC. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss her dearly!

He was born on November 20th, 1973, in Jacksonville, AR to Alton and Gwen Stokley. He is preceded in death by his father Alton Stokley and uncle F.A. Stokley. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Spencer, his mother, Gwen Stokley, and all those who loved and cared for him.

My father was my hero and didn’t even know it. I am the strong, independent woman I am today because of him. He was a single father who did his best to raise me. We didn’t always have the best relationship, but I couldn’t be prouder to call him my father.

He was a strong willed, loyal, dependable, and hardheaded man. Once you got to know him though, he was so funny and such a character it made many peoples’ day. I knew I could always call my father when I needed him, and he would always come no matter what. He loved baseball and even coached little league for a bit. He wanted to get back into that, it was something that really brought him joy. He wasn’t too happy with the astros this year.

May we meet again but until then, I hope you find peace in the afterlife.

Services for David Stokley will be held Friday, November 24th,2023 from 11 am - 2 pm at Cypress Creek Funeral Home and Crematory.

In loving memory, we announce the passing of Helene Gallagher. Helene was born in The Bronx, New York to Viola and Werner Tuskan. She is survived by her son, Christopher Gallagher (Gina), and grandchildren, Patrick and Matthew, of The Woodlands, TX whom she adored.

Helene loved art, the theater, animals, cooking, and collecting her treasures. She was a devoted daughter who was close to her parents her whole life.

She graduated from The Finch School, was a model, became a certified decorator and moved to Washington DC. She decorated several buildings in New York, Washington DC, and North Carolina in addition to private residences before marrying Raymond Jackson Gallagher and moving to California in 1967. In 1976 she went back to school and became a licensed realtor, had a successful career, and retired in 1992 to care for her father. In 2007 she moved to Texas with her mother to be near her family. Above all, Helene always said her family came first.

A viewing was held on November 4, 2023, for immediate family, and graveside services will be held on November 20th at 10:00 AM at the San Fernando Mission and Cemetery in Misson Hills, CA. Family and friends are invited to attend.

The family has requested that in lieu of sending flowers please have a mass said for Helene as her Catholic faith was important to her. William Stewart MacColl - August 11, 1928 - October 19, 2023

Obituary Preview: The Rev. William Stewart MacColl died at his home at the Conservatory at Champion Forest in Spring, Texas on October 19, 2023, after a life of service to faith, church, and causes he held dear. Born in New York, New York on August 11, 1928, to the Rev. Alexander Meridith and Edna Stewart MacColl, Stew graduated from Germantown Friends School (1946), Princeton University (1950), and Union Theological Seminary (1953). While attending Union, he met Jane Thomson. They married in 1952, forming a remarkable team supporting their family, communities, those in need, and the teachings of Jesus, whom Stew called “my guiding hero and redeeming lover.”

Stew and Jane served Presbyterian congregations in Highland, New York (from 1953 to 1956); Newark, New Jersey (1956-61); Wilton, Connecticut (1961-79, and 2011-12); and Spring, Texas (1979-1993). Stew’s charisma and his insightful, nuanced, yet accessible sermons and ministry helped each congregation flourish and serve its members, community, and the broader world. Early services in Wilton were in a rented school classroom, then the school auditorium, and ultimately at a beautiful, new, and revolutionary Christian campus that also housed the St. Mathews Episcopal Church. Northwoods Presbyterian Church in Spring similarly built a striking new worship sanctuary under Stew’s leadership. Stew, Jane, and each congregation provided exceptional care to members, community, and others across the globe, helping to found community action groups (including NAM in Houston) and forming missions to and close connections with congregations in Africa.

While serving on Wilton’s Board of Education, Stew’s persistently practical and humane voice also carried the day for Project Concern, a voluntary busing program that brought the blessings of diversity and students from Bridgeport’s poorest neighborhoods into Wilton’s schools.

He and his congregations were compassionate champions for reproductive rights. Before Roe, he counseled women with unwanted pregnancies and helped arrange illegal abortions. Later he served as President of Planned Parenthood of Houston and his congregations founded clinics, often in the face of outspoken opposition, but always respecting the sincerity of opposing views. In 2006, Planned Parenthood of America awarded him the Reverends Davis Award for Distinguished Service. In retirement, he tutored students and provided volunteer tax preparation services to retirees and other disadvantaged folks, paying the taxes from personal funds for those most in need.

Stew was blessed with remarkable senses of humor and competitiveness. An accomplished four-sport high school athlete (number 1 and captain of his tennis team, football wideout, basketball standout, and track star – 1946 Philadelphia prep school mile champion), Stew played touch football with the faithful each autumn Sunday in Wilton and competed at tennis well into his 60s.

Through the 1950s and 60s, the family spent five weeks each summer at Flying Moose Lodge, a Maine boys camp owned by close friend Harrie B. Price, III of Moorestown, New Jersey. Though Stew described his role (including aerial pancake deliveries, standup comedy, slapstick skits, and hijinks lampooning the more understated camp owner) as “camp clown,” he was for FML campers, young parishioners, and his own extended family a revered counselor, whose humor was gift and craft.

A letter from the Wilton Democratic Town Committee entered into the Congressional Record when Stew left that town for Texas concluded that he should “be assured you have fulfilled in Wilton the oath of ancient Athens: You have left your town ‘better and more beautiful than you found it.’” The same was true at Stew’s ultimate departure.

Stew was predeceased by his parents and wife Jane (of 64 years), his brother Alexander “Mac” MacColl, of Holyoke, Mass and Kennebunk, Maine, his sister-in-law, Joan Balkenberg, of Katy, Texas, his brother-in-law, Ed Thomson, of New York City. He is survived by his daughter Barbara Eymard (and husband Paul) of Katy, Texas, son Edward MacColl (and partner Elaine Charette) of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, daughter Janet MacColl Nicholson (and husband Dr. James) of Media, Pennsylvania, daughter Macdara MacColl (and partner Paul Bailin) of Madison, Connecticut, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Stew loved all his nieces and nephews but was especially close to Dr. Patricia Lyn Richards of Kenyon College.

A memorial service will be held Saturday October 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Northwoods Presbyterian Church, 3320 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, Texas. Another will be held at the Wilton Presbyterian Church in Connecticut at a time to be announced.

Obituary Preview: William Arthur “Will” Griggs passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 15th, 2023, at Vitas Hospice following a brief battle with brain cancer.

Born July 29th, 1977, to James and LuMar (Holmes) Griggs, William was a 1995 graduate of Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Indiana. He attended Purdue University where he earned a degree in Applied Physics and Atmospheric Science as part of the Class of 1999.

Will met the love of his life, Gloria “Aileen” Yeadon in 1997. The two quickly became inseparable and married on July 15, 2000. Together they built a beautiful life that included their nephews, James “Tony” and Kenneth “Drew” Patterson along with six children, Ariana, Benicio, Nicolas, Ethan, Genesis, and Mia. Will was a wonderful hands-on father and uncle, spending every spare minute with his children and nephews. He was a devoted husband who worked tirelessly to care for his wife and family. He was a family man through and through, putting his family’s needs above his own.

Will was a dedicated employee of over 23 years at SLB (formerly Schlumberger), beginning his career in Houston, Texas in early 2000. He transferred from the office to work offshore on seismic exploration vessels in 2005.

While working off shore, Will traveled the world extensively, making friends on nearly every continent with his positive attitude, strong work ethic and (sometimes inappropriate) sense of humor. He contributed to award winning projects and earned a reputation as a fair, efficient, and kind supervisor. In 2017, Will returned to Houston, where he was most recently employed as a Geosolutions Business Manager. Will was a valuable asset to SLB and many of his colleagues describe him as incredibly supportive, helpful, upbeat,

and kind all while getting the job done.

Will is survived by his wife, Aileen; his children Benicio, Nicolas, Ethan, Genesis, and Mia all of Hockley, TX and special nephews Tony Patterson of Monrovia, IN and Drew Patterson of Clayton, IN; his parents James and LuMar Griggs of Mooresville, IN; brothers Paul (Emily) Griggs of Noblesville, IN and Cameron (Lauren) Griggs of Wisconsin; several nieces and nephews, a grand nephew, and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ariana, along with his grandparents, Ralph and Norma Griggs and William and Mary Lou Holmes. Funeral calling hours will be Friday, October 20 from 4-7 PM CDT at Cypress Creek Funeral Home 2000 Cypress Landing Drive Houston TX 77090

A Celebration of Life will also be held in Indiana at a later date.

Johnny is survived by his son, Jonathan Gomez, his daughter, Heather Gomez, his grandson Jonathan, Jr, his granddaughter Jolissa Logan, his sister, Margaret Gomez, his brother, Tony Gomez and multiple nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Cypress Creek Funeral Home located at 2000 Cypress Creek Landing Dr., Houston TX 77090 on Tuesday, October 24th from 11am - 12:30 pm.

The burial will be at The Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 1:30 P.M. The Navy personal will be present to perform military honors for Johnny.

She was a loving grandmother to her six grandchildren. She loved spending time talking with her children and grandchildren and sharing with everyone about their accomplishments. In the last several years of her life, she spent Wednesdays with her “Single Ladies” lunch group that she founded in 2018. Anyone who ever shared a meal with Linda will remember the question she will be forever known for, “Is it spicy?”

She was welcomed into Heaven by her husband, father, and her loving mother-in-law.
