After graduating from New York University, Dr. Schaff attended Medical School at the University of Bologna, Italy, attaining his Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery in 1977. There he met, fell in love with and married the love of his life, Adriana. He returned to New York to complete a residency through New York Medical College at Westchester Medical Center and Lenox Hill Hospital. William J Johnson - September 01, 1942 - July 18, 2023

Departed: 07/18/2023 (Peekskill)
Obituary Preview: William (Bill) Johnson, age 80, of Peekskill, NY passed away peacefully on July 18, 2023 at NY Presbyterian Hospital after a long illness.
Bill was born in Valdosta, Georgia and relocated to Peekskill at an early age. Bill was well known in Peekskill as a gifted athlete for basketball and track in the early 1960s. In fact, some of his track records are still unbroken today! Although, there was a lure of a professional basketball career on the horizon, for Bill, his real passion was photography.
After graduation from Peekskill High School (PHS), Bill enrolled and graduated from the New York Institute of Photography. He married the former Ruth Bowles and the two settled into life in Peekskill. He started his career at Flair Studios in Croton, NY honing his photography skills before opening his own business in 1971.
Specializing in wedding photography and portraits, his stellar reputation grew, and he expanded his business into a full-service camera shop. Bill was always looking for ways to improve Peekskill’s downtown, and with his passion for politics, he became an active member of the Chamber of Commerce. He went on to own two more businesses, Jon-Mac Hair Care with John McIver in the early 1980s, and then Ruby’s Infants to Teens.
Bill continued to pursue his interest in city politics, eventually being appointed to the Peekskill Common Council in the early 1990s. After completing his first term, he subsequently ran and was elected to a four-year term, where he also served as Deputy Mayor. His calm and reasonable voice at council meetings earned him a tremendous amount of respect amongst his colleagues and peers. If you ever dropped by his studio to buy a roll of film or to take a passport photo, it was not unusual to find him engaged in conversation with a local resident about Peekskill politics and helping them to resolve issues or concerns.
Even after his retirement, he fielded phone calls and remained informed about local developments.
Bill’s infectious laugh, insightful counsel, and friendship will be missed by all.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ruth; daughters Karen Johnson of Elmira, NY and Kelley Johnson Goshay of Atlanta, GA; and grandchildren, Kyle, Brandon and Kennedy. He is also survived by his mother, Juanita Jackson of Peekskill, as well as his sister Anita Jackson Long of Peekskill. William or Willie as he is affectionally called, also leaves behind a host of loving family and friends. He was pre-deceased by his stepfather, Artis Jackson and nephew, Gregory Long. Services will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023 at the United Methodist Church located at 1040 Main St

Eugene Taylor - July 07, 1962 - July 14, 2023

Departed: 07/14/2023 (Peekskill)
Obituary Preview: Eugene J. Taylor of Ocala, Florida, formerly of East Stroudsburg, PA and Cortlandt Manor, NY, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023 with family and friends by his side. Eugene, or Gene as he was well known as, was born on July 7, 1962 in Portchester, NY to Robert F. Taylor Jr. and Lilias (Matthews) Taylor.
Gene moved to Cortlandt Manor as an infant and enjoyed a wonderful childhood while making lifelong friends from both his neighborhood and school. He was a 1980 graduate of Walter Panas High School. Upon graduation, Eugene worked at several occupations until he found his first calling with Equitable Insurance. There, he was able to work alongside his father and garnered many fond and funny memories of their time together while gaining much knowledge from his father.
In 1991, Gene began what would later become his passion and driving force when he eagerly began his career with United Parcel Service. Gene began his career as a package car driver and was quickly promoted to a Feeder Department Supervisor. Here began the start of not only a job he truly loved, but more importantly many dear and lasting friendships.
During his time at UPS, Gene successfully completed Driver Training School (DTS), worked as a dispatcher, on road supervisor, trained many drivers and supervised and managed over-the-road sleeper teams before finally ending up as a scheduler for the New York area in the Logistics Department. Along the way, he was known to be firm with his drivers, but more importantly fair and respectful. This level of fairness and respectfulness across the board earned him the love and respect of all who knew and worked for him and many lasting friendships were born. Gene retired from UPS in July of 2020, but continued to work as a temporary scheduler until his illness forced him to finally pack up his computers in April of 2023.
Eugene was all about three things in life - family, friends and his Harley. Gene’s children were his pride and joy and when his grandchildren came along he could not have been more pleased. He was always sharing stories about their accomplishments and beamed whenever he spoke of them. With Gene as your friend, you always knew that he was only a phone call away. Phone calls with Gene were long and winded, but filled with laughter, love and friendship and the knowledge that he would drop whatever he was doing and come to your side if need be. Gene also loved to throw huge BBQ’s when he lived in PA, especially for his birthday which he always tied in with July 4th festivities. Many a year there were fireworks displays that rivaled the local community’s events! Sometimes, the family joked that Gene’s Harley was his true love. Gene rode that motorcycle anywhere he could and shared his stories of Laconia, Wisconsin, the Florida Keys, Niagara Falls, Daytona and his many other travels with anyone who would listen.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 27 years, Kirsten, his four children, Michelle Taylor of Painted Post, NY, James Taylor of East Stroudsburg, PA, Kelsey Taylor of Canadensis, PA, Robert J. Taylor of Canadensis, PA. and his three grandchildren Isabella, Nathaniel and Jessica. Gene is also survived by his siblings Robert F. Taylor III and his wife Glenda of Tucson, AZ, Marie Taylor and her fiancé, Arthur Pegnato of Punta Gorda, FL, Michael Taylor and his partner, Rhonda Columbo of Ocala, FL. and nieces and nephews, Lilias, Thomas, Stephanie, Ashley, Danah, Kayla, Michael Jr., Shannon and Collin.
