John enlisted in the Army’s Officer’s Candidate School and was deployed to Vietnam in 1968 as a commissioned officer (1st Lieutenant) in the Army Corp of Engineers. After his tour of duty and an honorable discharge from the Army, John and Sara moved to Denver, CO where Sara gave birth to Warren. As an adult, Matthew had much appreciation for the arts. He enjoyed reading, listening to music, and building things from back yard fences and garden boxes to bird houses with Max. He loved being creative. Even when nobody could see his vision, Matthew could.  Matthew met Leslie in 2007 and it was an instant connection. They welcomed their son Maxfield Simcox in 2009. They enjoyed trips to the mountains (Glenwood Springs was a favorite family spot), holidays in Texas, going on vacation to the beach, and spending the summers at the pool. Matthew was very supportive and encouraging of Max’s interests. He coached his soccer and football teams, was cheering him on during swim meets, and never missed a school field trip. Matthew cared deeply about his family and friends and considered Max the greatest joy of his life.
Matthew is survived by Father Phil Simcox; Mother Kristen Dutton; Son Maxfield Simcox; Wife Leslie Hakze; Stepfather Howard Rosenberg; Step grandmother Betty Dutton; Stepbrother Paul Rosenberg; Stepbrother David Rosenberg; Stepsister Hyla Rosenberg; in-laws Mary and Jerry Hakze; Adam Hakze; Maggi Hakze; and niece Alice Hathorn. Matthew was preceded in death by his grandparents Kirk and Bette Dutton; Harold and Ruth Simcox.

Billie Faye Espinosa - August 19, 1951 - February 22, 2022

Departed: 02/22/2022 (Centennial)
Obituary Preview: Billie Faye Espinosa of Commerce City, CO (70) left us on 2/22/22 . She was a loving wife to Frank Richard Espinosa 53 years.  A strong, stubborn mother of 4, Frank (Carol,) Adam(Michelle,) Ben (Carrie) and Lisa Espinosa. A compassionate, creative and caring grandmother to a whole lot of grandkids; Audrey, Sara, Anthony, Allie, Alec, Angel, Brayden, Rain, Daniel, Violet and Gannon. Great grandmother to Decymus, Ava, Isaias, Aspen and Elora.
Each of us hold memories of “Grandma Billie,” some of the same stories with different perspective.  We learned so many life lessons.  Countless kitchen lessons, like making sure the mixer is off, it’s ok to eat raw cookie dough or cake batter every once in a while.  Christmas cookies are magical, and the importance of Holiday traditions.
We learned life lessons on how to be good people. To take care of each other, to share, to love, to cry, to laugh and to protect everyone’s kids like they are our own, “cause that’s what family does.”  She taught us when to keep our mouths shut and when to speak up.  These are lessons that will lead us the rest of our lives, keeping her memory in our hearts and with these memories she will never be forgotten. From racing cars and riding mini bikes, to French fry taste testing.  Field trips with the kids and mud pies.  There was never a dull moment. Every moment was cherished and lived to the fullest.
We obeyed her every wish until the very end as hard as it was, including no services or memorials be held.   We will cherish every memory and miss her like crazy.  Feel free to honor her memory by hugging your family tight and offering silent prayers.
Thank you.
Mom, watch us be fantastic.

Mary Ann Mallon - September 05, 1931 - February 18, 2022

Departed: 02/18/2022 (Centennial)
Obituary Preview: On Friday, February 18, 2022, Mary Ann (Wilson) Mallon went home to be with the Lord. She was 90 years old.
Mary Ann was born on September 5,1931 in St. Louis, MO. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1949 and married Robert (Bob) Mallon on November 22, 1950. She and Bob had 3 children, Linda, Carol, and David. From 1951-1970 Mary Ann was a homemaker until her youngest child went to school full-time. Then she began a career with Aurora Public Schools from which she retired in 1993. One of her first responsibilities of her clerk position with the schools was to collect the lunch room money. Years after she retired, students who would see her out and about would greet her, “Hi, Miss Lunch Room Lady. Do you remember me?” She always replied, “Yes, I do!” She never let a student go hungry and many times paid for a student’s lunch if they forgot their lunch money.
Mary Ann’s favorite past times included music, dance, sports and fashion. She earned a letter in high school for her participation in the Girls’ Athletic Association and was selected her senior year as the female athlete of the year. She met Bob, who was the male athlete of the year, when they had their pictures taken for the yearbook. They lived in St. Louis, MO and then Affton, MO until Bob was transferred to Denver, CO in the fall of 1969. Although she always thought of St. Louis as her home, she loved the 53 years she lived in Colorado. Mary Ann used to say about living in Colorado that she thought she had died and gone to heaven because Colorado had a dry climate. She did not miss the Missouri humidity or bugs! She loved designing and making her own clothes and although she didn’t have formal training in fashion design she was a talented seamstress and anything she made always received compliments.
Mary Ann loved her blue Jeep Cherokee, potato chips and Cherry Coke, and all things sweet especially ice cream, but she cherished her family. Nothing in this world made her happier than her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years who passed away on January 7, 2021. She is survived by her three children Linda Wiggs (Skip), Carol Michels (Tony), and David Mallon (Vickie); six grandchildren Christi Garofalo (Mike), Kyle Wiggs (Jenny), Jena Michels (Laura), Kelsie Caprioglio (Joe), Lindsay Mallon, and John Mallon (Nikki); and nine great-grandchildren Joey, Sam, and Nick Garofalo, Andrew, Julia, and Ally Wiggs, and Colt, Callen, and Kinslie Caprioglio.

Born August 1,1956, in Longmont Colorado, son of the late Francis and Susan (Wright) Pierpont. Kurt attended Longs Peak Junior High School where his pole vaulting record still stands. He graduated from Longmont High School, Class of 1974. He received his B.S. in psychology from Metropolitan State College in Denver in 1978.
He began his career in Criminal Justice in 1979. First for Lane County Jail in Eugene, Oregon where he met his future bride Ms. Helena Sawicki, also in Criminal Justice. The two often joked that they “met in jail.” Next, he was an Alcohol & Drug Evaluator in Jefferson County and a State Probation Officer in Arapahoe County. Kurt was a Federal Probation and Parole Officer for 20 years and ended his career in JeffCo Pre-Trial Services. Kurt was passionate about his career choice and served faithfully and successfully while he listened, counseled, and mentored many in need from dark scenarios, never losing his wry sense of humor and his shy smile. Later he joined Littleton Men’s Golf Club and South Suburban Senior Golf Club, where he played as often as weather allowed. In the off-season, in his younger days, the Rocky Mountains provided an exhilarating escape for Kurt’s love of skiing. When not at work or play Kurt could be found (and heard) pounding on his drums, which he played from childhood to the end. First at Longmont High School, drumming with the Rhythm Aires Stage Band and later with James Thornbury Band in Oregon; Shelvis and the Roustabouts, and for over 20 years with Indigo Atlas both in Denver. His five drum sets ensured the Pierpont home was always pulsating!
Kurt’s artistic touch had him crafting in leather, woodworking, and photography. Often producing professionally finished pieces, he took joy from creating with his hands, heart, and eyes. Kurtis Wright Pierpont is survived by his partner and wife of 40 years Helena Sawicki (Pierpont), their sons Dylan Edmund, Austin Kurtis, and Evan Francis, his sister Lucinda Pierpont and her son Tyson Yee, his late sister Melanie Pierpont and her sons Spencer and Taylor Bushnell, his brother Scott Pierpont, his wife Jill Rasmussen (Pierpont) and his sons Noah and Simon Pierpont, sisters & brothers-in-law Bari and Miles Johnson, Eva and Mark Wierzbinski, and niece Selena Peters, his American Field Service exchange student brother Wirachai Phrompechrut from Bangkok, Thailand. And Kurt’s beloved dog Kilo, who misses him dearly!
Kurt will be remembered as a kind, generous, gentle soul. But the “beat goes on”, his beat, in all the hearts and minds of those who knew, respected, and loved Kurtis Wright Pierpont.
Kurt was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 38 years old. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association: bit.ly/t1dkwp Kurt’s memorial will be held on Thursday April 28th at St Timothy’s Episcopal Church, at 1:00pm, 1401 E Dry Creek Rd, Centennial CO. David Ray Woelfel - March 07, 1952 - February 12, 2022

Departed: 02/12/2022 (Centennial)
Obituary Preview: “What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been” - The Grateful Dead David Woelfel, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on February 12th leaving behind a legacy of teaching and giving. His life was dedicated to sharing his knowledge
and passions with not only his loved ones, but the students he considered family. David was born to Stanley Ray and Barbara (Baker) Woelfel on March 7, 1952, in Mount Vernon, Illinois. He attended Bear Creek High School graduating in 1970. There he was active
in track and field, marching band and The Westernairres. After high school he attended Notre Dame and The Colorado State University, graduating in 1975 with a degree in Animal Science. While at CSU he pledged to Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) and
remained devoted to the fraternity and his Brothers. A critical life decision was made while skiing at Winter Park one weekend with friends, David
decided to flip a coin and decide his career path: Heads= Teaching, Tails= Cancer Research. Heads luckily won and he completed his teaching certificate at the University of Northern
Colorado. Central Catholic High School in Denver was David’s first stop and where he began his “real learning” about teaching. From 1976-1982 he taught kids one of his favorite subjects, science! There, he also coached basketball and track forming lifelong bonds with his students, and was
honored when he was invited by his former students to attend numerous class reunions. David’s next stop was in the Cherry Creek School District at Laredo Middle School as the science teacher and boys basketball coach. During his tenure at Laredo, he went on two trips to Europe with students and French teachers. While at Laredo David met someone very
special, his soon-to-be bride Cathy. New adventures led David to teach at Eaglecrest High School and then on to PREP before
retiring in 2008. “What do you teach?” A question often asked when someone finds out they are speaking to a teacher. “Kids, and on a good day, science”, was David’s answer. Mr. Woelfel was always serious and passionate about his work. It was always important to talk with his students, not at
them. Everyone would understand each other better if the conversation goes that way. David was also involved with the Colorado State Science Convention for many years as the
Chairman for Vendors. David’s love for teaching was strong, but his love for Cathy and their family was stronger. One payday, on June 20, 1990, David and Cathy married at The Candlelight Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas with Julie and Andy standing with them. Through the years they took a house and built it into their home. Whether a trip to North Redington Beach, Florida or to Saint Albans, Vermont, they did it together and enjoyed it all. As most of you know, David was a Disney fanatic. He went to Disneyland the year it opened, then took numerous trips with Cathy, and most recently enjoyed taking his grandkids to the Disney parks. Just a couple of years ago he went to Disney World, Disneyland and Disney Paris all in just four months! David always loved an adventure; he loved climbing a 14er, making tracks in fresh powder, going on a spirited ride in his beloved Porsche 911, building furniture or traveling. One of his recent trips was to France to visit the sites where his two uncles served in WWII. He always stayed close to his roots and things he learned from his parents; tinkering with tools, his love
for gardening, fishing and hunting as well as his mother’s love for reading.
Becoming a Grandpa was David’s most rewarding adventure, and his most beloved one. Alexander David Megill, Kenedie Amorie Malia, William Sebring Megill, Jonathan Trueman Bishop-Woelfel, Lilliana Jo Malia, and Jenna Marie Bishop-Woelfel were all lucky enough to call David by Grandpa. Whether sitting through hours of Princess’s on TV or teaching them how to
plant pumpkins in the garden, he loved every minute. David precedes his loving wife Cathy, his rock. Supporting him through a valiant battle, her
endless devotion and love is appreciated and will not be forgotten. Daughter: Julie Malia, husband Brent Son:Andy Bishop-Woelfel, wife Nia Sister: Debbie Faigh, husband Rik Nephews: Matthew Faigh, Patrick Cross Nieces: Heather Arkinson, Cassidy Bryer Sister and brother in laws: Charlotte and Jim Arkinson, Pam and Peter Cross, Steve Bryer Uncle: Tom Woelfel, wife Pam Aunt: Ann Baker Numerous Cousins Please join family and friends for a Celebration of Life in honor of David: Saturday, March 5, 2022 1PM - 5PM Heritage Eaglebend Clubhouse 23155 E.
