Mable Iris Morrow - April 13, 1931 - April 09, 2022

Departed: 04/09/2022 (Evanston)
Obituary Preview: Mable Iris Sundberg Morrow, born April 13, 1931, in Ogden, Utah, to Ernest O. Sundberg and Lenora (Horsefield) Sundberg, passed away on April 9, 2022, at her home in Evanston. She was 90 years old.
Iris grew up living in railroad houses from Echo, Utah, to Cheyenne, living in Wamsutter, Wyoming, for the longest period of time. In Wamsutter, she learned to love the wide-open spaces, beautiful sunsets and the ever-present Wyoming wind. While living there as a young girl, her pet was a baby antelope named Jesse James.
She met Bill Morrow at The Blue Bucket Dance Hall in Evanston when she was a young teen, probably too young to be frequenting a dance hall known by local boys as “The Bloody Bucket.” She visited Evanston from Castle Rock, Utah - where her dad was working as a signal maintainer for the Union Pacific Railroad – accompanied by her older sisters Edna, Shirley and Betty. Iris was the baby of the large family, which also included older brothers Jay, Marvin and Reid. Her one younger sister Ida was stillborn.
She married Bill on Feb. 15, 1947, in Randolph, Utah. According to her telling, when asked, “Do you take this woman?” Bill said, “Yep.” Her reply to the same question was, “Yeah.” Because the newly-married couple had no money, they celebrated their marriage by sharing a sandwich at a café across the street from the courthouse.
They raised seven children in Evanston, Vickie (Paul Vozakis), Jim (Jolene Six), Colleen (Mark Kunz), Dan (Stephanie Day), Wayne (Kim Hutchings), Scott (Charlene Henriette), and Don (Brenda Cox). Iris had 22 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Bill worked on the B&B (bridge and building) department of the UPRR for 33 years. Iris worked at the Best Western Dunmar in Evanton for 33 years, where virtually all of the family worked with her over the years doing everything from cleaning rooms to mowing lawns to waiting tables to maintenance to management. Every possible job one could think of at the motel was done by either Iris or one of her kids or grandkids. A great many people who worked at the Dunmar during that time credit Iris with teaching them work ethic.
After she retired from the Dunmar in 1993, she worked some part-time jobs for the next seven years before Bill’s health failed and she spent the next 2-1/2 years caring for him. He passed away June 29, 2002. At that point her son Scott and Char moved in with her and were her caretakers. Their loving care allowed her to stay in the home she and Bill shared all their lives. All her children helped her a great deal and she often said she was blessed with such a loving family.
She was a voracious reader and loved movies and music and travel. More than anything, Iris loved parties and any occasion was an excuse to have one, including Easter, Christmas, birthdays and anything else. She hated COVID because of the interruptions it caused in the family traditions, including the Easter and Christmas parties held every year for as long as any of them can remember.
Iris believed in laughing and having fun. She wanted everybody to have fun – not just her family, but everyone. She made everything an adventure and even scrubbing walls in the Legal Tender could be fun with Iris in charge. Work hard and play hard was her motto.
She was preceded in death by Bill, her daughter Vickie, daughter-in-law Stephanie, son-in-law Paul Vozakis, and several siblings. She is survived by her children and the huge tribe she and Bill founded and her best buddy Spike – her loving and devoted Brussels Griffon.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 15, at the Evanston Roundhouse. All friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.

Departed: 03/31/2022 (Evanston)
Obituary Preview: Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marilyn Ruth Jensen Brown, passed away at her home in Peoa, Utah on March 31, 2022, at the age of 87.
Marilyn was born on September 4, 1934, in Logan, Utah to Preston Jay and Maxine Abbigail (Stewart) Jensen. The oldest of 5 children, she learned from an early age the value of hard work, perseverance, and faith. She also learned to love sports, playing games, cooking, sewing, gardening, and reading. She married the love of her life, Thomas Edward Brown, on June 1, 1954, in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Over the course of their almost 68 years of marriage, they lived in Germany, India, Texas, California, Georgia, Ogden, and Peoa. They welcomed seven children into their family, along with 37 grandchildren and 68 great-grandchildren (with four more on the way). She was a spot-less housekeeper, who personified the phrase, “A place for everything and everything in its place.” One of her most amazing traits was her ability to remember everyone’s names (along with spouses) and never missing a birthday!
Marilyn was also known for her deep faith in and love for the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a constant and consistent reader of the scriptures. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Marilyn served faithfully in many callings in the Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society organizations, changing many lives along the way. An early example of this was when she was called to be the Relief Society President in the Kaiserslautern Germany Serviceman’s branch, despite being a young wife and mother. With her typical hard work and organizational skills, she successfully led the branch’s first fundraising effort for the construction of the Kaiserslautern Germany stake center. She blessed the lives of many women and families across the years and across the world. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers where she enjoyed meeting with others and learning more about her pioneer heritage.
Throughout her life she continued to enjoy reading, sewing, and traveling.  She took special joy in the accomplishments of her husband, children, and grandchildren. Serving with her husband as he presided over the California San Diego mission and later serving in the India Bangalore mission were highlights of her life. She wore out her life in the service of her family and others and she will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband Thomas E. Brown; and children, Cathy (John) Ure, Susan (Frank) Siddoway, Mark (Michele) Brown, Jeff (Cheryl) Brown, David (Anna) Brown, Steven (Melanie) Brown, and Julie (David) Peterson; her brother Merv Jensen and sister Kristie Looslie.

Brent Eugene Williams - June 25, 1936 - March 20, 2022

Departed: 03/20/2022 (Evanston)
Obituary Preview: Brent Eugene Williams, 85, passed away on March 20, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Brent was born on June 25, 1936 in Malad City, Idaho to Leland and Zilpha (White) Williams.
He was raised on a ranch near 3rd Creek just outside of Malad with his six siblings.  They raised crops and tended milk cows (a chore he did not enjoy).  The family wintered in Malad proper during the school year so the kids could attend school.  Brent played sports throughout school and graduated high school in 1954.  He attended Ricks College for two years, where he lettered in track (1954-1956).  He then graduated from Idaho State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical Education and Social Studies in 1958, and earned his Master’s in Education Administration from Utah State in 1967.
On May 29, 1961 he married Ivie Joan Porter of Salmon, Idaho.  The couple began dating after Brent met his future mother-in-law at the JCPenney in Salmon, while she was working as a clerk.  They initially married in Gooding, Idaho and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City L.D.S. Temple in 1971.
Brent and Joan set up home in Leadore, Idaho where they welcomed three children: Michelle, Mark, and Brenda.  Brent taught several subjects in a combined classroom: US History, Government, General Science and Physical Education.  He coached varsity basketball, cross country, and track, and was also Senior Class Advisor and director of the annual school play at Leadore High School. Brent had teaching and coaching stints in McDermitt, Nevada (1958-1959) and Manila, Utah (1965-1967) before moving to Evanston, Wyoming in 1967.
Brent was a teacher and a coach in the Evanston School district for 37 years, teaching physical education, health and driver’s education, and finally retiring in 2005.  As a driver’s education instructor, he utilized the driving simulator trailer each summer – the only good air conditioning in town in the 1970s and early 80s, as many of his students will remember. While in Evanston, Brent and Joan welcomed four more children: Kari, Ryan, Marie and Jamie. In 1971, they bought their home on 6th Street, where they have lived for the last 50 years.
Brent is still known as “Coach Williams” to his students and athletes at Evanston High School (1967-1989) and Evanston Middle School (1989-2005).  He coached Varsity Basketball, Cross Country, and Track from 1967 to 1980, as well as girls basketball and boys and girls golf.  He served as the Athletic and Activities Director for EHS & DMS for twelve years. In retirement, Brent was an avid Red Devil Sports fan. He and Joan followed the teams as they played all over the state and always promptly reported the results to their children – all of whom have long since graduated!
Brent was inducted into the Wyoming Coaches Hall of Fame in 1988 and served on their board for over 15 years.
Brent was also inducted into the Evanston Red Devil Hall of Fame in 2014.
Brent loved sports and particularly enjoyed playing golf, hunting, and camping.  A member of the Purple Sage Golf Course for 50 years, he enjoyed competing in the club championship and men’s league team (School Boys) each week in the summer.  He shared his passion for sports – especially golf and basketball – with all his children.
Brent spent as much time as he could at the family ranch in the summers.  He especially liked driving the tractor in the fields and riding horses to deliver salt to the cattle grazing high on the range (having somewhat warmed to bovine husbandry in adulthood).  It was always a special place for him and his family to spend time camping, riding horses, four wheeling, and telling stories about the dangers and calamities of growing up on the ranch.
Brent loved taking rides in the mountains of Wyoming.  He spent many weeks elk hunting off the Greys River, and antelope and sage hen hunting in his Willy’s Jeep outside of Mountain View. While he did sneak in a little fishing here and there, he especially loved going out to look for “ams, rabs and four or five E” with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan, and his children: Mark Elden Williams, Brenda Jo Barnes, Kari Lee (Amy) Williams, Ryan Brent (Angela) Williams, Joan Marie Williams and Jamie Diane Williams.  He will also be missed by his ten grandchildren (Amber, Cassi, Alesha, Whitney, Greg, Rollie, Kori, Gracie, Greyson, and Jonah) and five great-grandchildren (Bella, Knox, Annabell, Lance, Emmet); his brothers Clyde (Louise) Williams and Carl (Jeanne) Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded by his daughter, Lisa Michelle Williams Townsend; his parents, Leland and Zilpha; his sisters Nadine Conrad, Neva Christensen, and Selma Yearsley; and a brother, Larry Williams.
Funeral service will be on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Crandall Funeral Home.   Viewing will be at the funeral home Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Obituary Preview: Our beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend Taycen Dee Birch at the age of 18 returned to his Heavenly Father on March 19, 2022.
He was born on October 6, 2003, to Allen Birch and Holly Pedersen.
Taycen was a senior at South Summit High School where he played football and competed in Wrestling. He was part of the team as a freshman where they won the State Championship in football. He also placed 6th at Junior High State. He participated in other sports such as soccer and baseball.
He loved to ride and race dirt bikes with his family in the desert and competed in many races.  He could ride endless wheelies and was always in competition with anyone willing to say they could do better or go further. Even though he was an amazing rider and loved to be on his dirt bike his passion was to follow his dad’s footsteps and become a Lineman.
Taycen loved hunting and being in the outdoors. His heart and soul were in the mountains. He was able to harvest some amazing bucks and build many memories with lifelong friends. There wasn’t a time he wasn’t hiking looking for sheds and waiting for the moment to grab a set or have the opportunity to do the first “pick up”.
He loved his Heavenly Father. He was able to attend trek. Taycen was a boy scout and earned many badges. It came easy to him. He learned so much being the right-hand man to many families and friends that taught him so much.  He had a heart of Gold in serving others from yardwork to escorting the elderly up the high school bleachers. He was always lending a hand to those in need. Taycen was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was recently able to receive the priesthood by his dad and turn around and help administer the priesthood to his brothers.
Taycen loved his family with his whole heart. He was so blessed to have two Moms who loved him beyond measure. Taycen was his dad’s right-hand man and was always willing to go the extra mile to be just like him. He was the best big brother and to say he was their idol is an understatement. He loved supporting his siblings and parents in all they were involved in. There were many wrestling matches, wedgies given and slug bugs with his siblings but most of all loves, hugs, and “I love you’s” with his whole family.
Taycen was such a good friend and making friends came easy. He has endless number of friends scattered all over. There wasn’t a town we didn’t go through that he wasn’t talking about someone he knew.  He believed in brotherhoods and many of his friends became more like brothers.  They had a bond that could not be broken.

Colette J Christopherson - October 20, 1962 - March 16, 2022

Departed: 03/16/2022 (Evanston)
Obituary Preview: Our most valuable player, Colette Jensen Christopherson, 59, passed away March 16, 2022, after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born October 20, 1962, to Gloria Rosebud Shurtleff and Sherman Arthur Jensen.
She was happy, fun, down-to-earth, had a great sense of humor, loved people, and loved to tease. She was a talented decorator and event planner. Colette loved the beauty of the outdoors, and sugar with a good chick flick, but nothing beat the allure of a good old sweaty ball game. She never missed a game if she could help it. She was proud that her brothers would let her play tackle football in the yard. As a young girl she would travel with her parents to the State Basketball Tournament every year and watch as many games as she could. This tradition carried on throughout her life. She was the Lyman High School Valedictorian, and excelled in volleyball, basketball, and track for Lyman all four years.
Colette cheered on the Vikings while attending Ricks College, then the Cowboys at University of Wyoming. On August 3, 1984, Colette married her favorite high school football star, Randy Christopherson, in the Salt Lake Temple, after which she was the best “Randy fan” in the world as he played for the Chadron State Nebraska Eagles. In 1987 Colette and Randy graduated from Chadron State on the same day. She was thrilled to become the mother of three active boys and loved being a part of their lives. Colette was the perfect boy mom. Her sons were active with scouts, school activities, and sports. Colette was the cool mom that was a part of every committee and was well stocked with treats. She knew both college and professional football and basketball players---and their statistics! Colette was part of many teams through the years, but her favorite was being a part of the Lord’s team. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she learned to dodge temptation, block discouragement, and tackle evil. Colette served several times as Primary President, three or four times as Young Women’s President and twice as Relief Society President. She taught Gospel Doctrine, Primary singing, was always camp director and even did Cub Scouts! Whatever the Lord ask of her she did with flair!
Colette and Randy lived in Chadron NE, Denver CO, Hearne TX, Green River WY, and Morgan UT. In 2007 her dream came true when Randy started his physical therapy practice at home in Lyman, Wyoming.
Those that know Colette know that although she loved sports, she shined at being everyone’s cheerleader. She traveled great distances to support, not only her own children, but her nieces and nephews, her young women, her son’s friends--or anyone she considered part of her team. Colette not only knew everybody in Bridger Valley, but she could tell you who they were related to! Colette saw the best in everybody. If you knew Colette, you were part of her team.
Those left behind are her team starters, husband, Randall Carter Christopherson, Lyman, Wyoming; children, Cody Scott and (Kasha) Christopherson, Provo, Utah, Shad Randall Christopherson, Provo, Utah, and Ryan Carter Christopherson, Lyman, Wyoming; grandchildren, Madilyn Xela, and Russell Thorvald Christopherson; also left behind are brothers and sisters, Bradley and (Karen) Jensen, Springville, Utah, Jeani and (Ernie) Field, Syracuse, Utah, Bruce Jensen, Salt Lake City, Utah, Jolane and (Jeff) Thornock, Fruit Heights, Utah, Brian and (Alysia) Jensen, Lyman, Wyoming and Eagle Mountain, Utah; parents-in-law, Bob and Sandi Christopherson, Farr West, Utah; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jill and (John) Miller, Saint George, Utah, Skip and (Cindy) Christopherson, Pleasant View, Utah, Mark and (Laura) Christopherson, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mike and (Deena) Christopherson, Rexburg, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sherman and Gloria Jensen; grandparents, Mary and Wallace Shurtleff, and Leah and Thorvald Jensen, and loved aunts and uncles on both sides.
Though we believe Colette has been traded to a better team, she will always be the best of ours. Our thanks to Colette’s “football family” and to her Ward family for the service, love and care they have given to Colette and her family, especially during the last year. “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” (1 John 4:16)
Funeral Services: Saturday, March 26, 2022, 11:00 a.m. Viewing 9:00-10:45 a.m. Bridger Valley Stake Center, Urie, Wyoming.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary website, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They help to notify others of the passing, share details about the funeral or memorial service, and offer a chance for loved ones to pay tribute and share memories.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or cremation service may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template to help guide the process.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, city of residence, and a brief biography highlighting their accomplishments, interests, and relationships. It may also include information about surviving family members, funeral or memorial service details, and any charitable donations or organizations in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or website. Generally, it's recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details, aiming for around 150-200 words. However, some online obituary platforms may allow for longer tributes or stories.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online obituary websites allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more engaging for readers.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and any specific requirements they may have. Some newspapers may accept submissions online, while others may require email or phone submissions.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, it's becoming increasingly common for people to write their own obituaries before they pass away. This can be a therapeutic exercise and ensure that your story is told in your own words. You can store it with your important documents or share it with your loved ones.

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, often including only basic information like name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a more detailed tribute that provides additional context and celebrates the person's life.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the newspaper or website. Some publications may charge by the word or line, while others may offer package deals or flat fees. Online obituary platforms may offer free or low-cost options.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's difficult to make changes to an obituary once it's been published in print. However, online obituaries may be easier to edit or update. Check with the publication or website for their policies on corrections or revisions.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeline for publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication's schedule and deadlines. Newspapers often have daily or weekly deadlines, while online obituaries may be published immediately or within a few hours.

Can I request corrections to an obituary?

If you notice errors or inaccuracies in an obituary, contact the publication or website directly to request corrections. They will typically work with you to resolve any issues promptly.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to publicly announce the passing of your loved one, you can opt for a private obituary or limit its distribution to specific groups or individuals. Discuss your options with the funeral home or cremation service.

Can I include humor in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber and serious. Including humorous anecdotes or personality traits can help celebrate the person's life and make the tribute more engaging.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or websites that specialize in historical records. Local libraries or genealogical societies may also have access to archived newspapers or resources to help you find what you're looking for.

Can I republish an old obituary?

If you find an old obituary that you'd like to republish, check with the original publication or copyright holder for permission. You may need to obtain permission or provide proper attribution when sharing it again.

What's the purpose of an online guestbook?

An online guestbook allows friends and family to leave condolences, share memories, and pay tribute to the deceased. It provides a virtual space for people to come together and support one another during a difficult time.

How long do online guestbooks stay active?

The duration of an online guestbook varies depending on the website or platform. Some may remain active indefinitely, while others may expire after a certain period (e.g., 30 days). Be sure to check with the provider for their policies.

Can I create a memorial website instead of an obituary?

Yes! Memorial websites offer a more comprehensive way to celebrate someone's life and provide a lasting tribute. They can include photos, stories, videos, and other multimedia elements that might not be possible in a traditional obituary.

What's the difference between a funeral notice and an obituary?

A funeral notice typically focuses on announcing the funeral service details (date, time, location), whereas an obituary provides more biographical information about the deceased person.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose something that resonates with the person's personality or spirit.

How do I handle errors in funeral service information?

If there are mistakes in the funeral service details (e.g., date, time, location), contact the funeral home or cremation service immediately so they can correct the information and notify attendees.

Can I write multiple obituaries for different publications?

Yes! You can tailor different versions of the obituary for various publications or audiences. Just be sure to keep track of any differences in formatting requirements or content guidelines.

What if I'm not comfortable writing an obituary myself?

DON'T WORRY! Many funeral homes, cremation services, and online platforms offer assistance with writing an obituary. They can guide you through the process and help you craft a meaningful tribute.
