Louis Leonard "Bubba" Minsky - October 28, 1938 - January 12, 2024

Departed: 01/12/2024 (Lake Providence)
Obituary Preview: LOUIS LEONARD "BUBBA" MINSKY, 85 LAKE PROVIDENCE, LOUISIANA Cox Funeral Home Lake Providence, Louisiana
LAKE PROVIDENCE, LA - Louis Leonard "Bubba" Minsky, 85, entered into eternal life on Friday, January 12, 2024 at his residence in Lake Providence, Louisiana.
Bubba was born in Lake Providence on October 28, 1938. He met Cecelia Quirk (CeCe), the love of his life, when she was 17 and he was 20. They married in the Church of the Little Flower in Evergreen, Louisiana on July 8, 1963. They were soon blessed with five children who became the greatest joys of his life.
He graduated from Lake Providence High School in 1956, attended LSU, joined the Army, then attended St. Louis University, USL in Lafayette, and finally graduated from NLU School of Pharmacy in 1962. After working in New Orleans, he returned to Lake Providence in 1963 to buy his father’s pharmacy, Minsky’s Drugstore, of which he recently celebrated 60 years of ownership. Bubba happily worked alongside his daughter, Catherine, until his death.
In December 1962, CeCe, having joined the convent, made the significant decision to leave. At that time, Bubba, fresh out of the Army, received the news from his mother about CeCe's return. Just a week later, Bubba paid a visit to CeCe's parents' house in Bunkie, LA. Upon arriving, there were two LSU football players there to visit CeCe. Bubba’s wingman, James Harold Crews, leaned over to him and said, “You take the little one, I’ll take the big one.” Needless to say, the rest is history! Their union flourished through the years, marking a beautiful journey that culminated in the joyous celebration of their 60th anniversary this past July, surrounded by their children and most of their grandchildren.
Bubba was a Renaissance Man of many hobbies and interests. He was an outstanding athlete who made up for his small stature with speed, grit and determination as a star running back for LPHS, as well as an outstanding basketball player. In his late 30s, Bubba ventured into tennis, a skill he self-taught, culminating in the building of a tennis court in his yard, overlooking his beloved Lake Providence. Having great affection for those in his community, he shared his love of tennis with local youth and extended his generosity by offering his tennis court to anyone that wanted to play. Bubba’s passion for the sport extended to the recruiting of siblings Mark & Valerie Harrison, whom he regarded as family, to come live in his home for three summers and impart the art of tennis to his children and other youth in the community. He remarkably continued to play well into his 70’s. Bubba’s enthusiasm extended to his support for all LSU sports and the Saints, as he enjoyed bonding with his sons over the games. Throughout his life, he found joy in his family: Traveling with his children, following their sports and teaching them to waterski on the family boat. Bubba later explored yet another creative pursuit, delving into woodworking and crafting several pieces of furniture.
Above all else, Bubba was a great husband and father who deeply loved Christ, his family, his employees and his customers. Born a Jew, he was miraculously converted to Christianity and baptized in the Catholic Church on Father’s Day in 1971. He was an imperfect man of great strength, high character and quiet humility, who acknowledged his sin and daily felt his dependence on Christ. Bubba loved everyone equally, regardless of their status, race, or background, and he taught his children to do the same. He wholeheartedly read and believed God’s Word, always asking His forgiveness, and sought to live a life of kindness and mercy to all that he came in contact with.
Bubba is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Cecelia Anne (Quirk) Minsky of Lake Providence, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Terry Elston of Shreveport, Louisiana; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Collins Coon of Monroe, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Caroline Minsky of Charlottesville, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jill Minsky of Frisco, Texas; son, Paul Minsky of Lake Providence, Louisiana; brother, Reynold Minsky of Lake Providence, Louisiana; 15 grandchildren (who called him Poppy): Christopher Randel (Haley); Brennan Randel (Elizabeth); Connor Randel (Morgan); Catherine Elston; Collin Elston; Nicholas Coon; Lennon Coon (Cate); Cecelia Coon; Barrett Coon; Clayton Coon; Marguerite Minsky; Sterling Minsky; Jack Minsky; Gabe Minsky; and Andrew Minsky; 3 step-grandchildren: Andrew Elston (Lora); David Elston (Jessica); and Griffin Henry; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur David Leon Minsky; mother, Ellaine Florence (Meyer) Minsky; brother, Leon Minsky and infant brother, Bert Minsky.
Funeral services for Louis Leonard "Bubba" Minsky, age 85 of Lake Providence, Louisiana will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lake Providence, Louisiana.

She was 99 years young. She leaves a legacy of love as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and cherished friend to all that knew her. Mary Kathryn was the quintessential, revered matriarch. She earned, deserved, and relished that title.
Mary Kathryn, or Meme to most of us, graduated from Kilbourne High School and attended Louisiana Tech. At Kilbourne, Mary Kathryn wanted to play basketball, but at 5’ tall was gently encouraged to be the team scorekeeper instead. She traveled with the team and loved every minute. Her love of Women’s Basketball paid off in 2023 as she was rewarded with a LSU National Championship! Meme was a dedicated homemaker, an accomplished seamstress, a grocery store owner, and a banker at First National Bank on Main Street. She was passionate about volunteering for AARP, organizing many trips to Branson, Missouri and publishing many, many birthdays in the annual community calendar. Meme and Papa were instrumental in organizing the concession stand at the Briarfield Academy Football Field and were proud recipients of the Mountain Movers Award for their work on that project. Meme deeply loved her church. She was a devout Baptist and served for many years on the church Finance Committee. She was also very proud of the church’s music offerings and her daughter, Kathy, for her many dedicated years playing the piano.
Meme had many interests. She loved to attend and watch sporting events (especially LSU). Crossword and jigsaw puzzles were a favorite way to pass time, and she was an avid, avid reader. Meme passed many a Sunday enjoying lunch after church at Possum Point or Nyanza Hunting Club. Meme was a good cook, and was particularly known for fried chicken, crawfish stew, cheese spaghetti, Christmas cookies, lemon icebox pie, and banana pudding. She was a professional shopper and never got over the closure of the downtown Goudchaux’s in Baton Rouge. She also loved McRae’s, Dillard’s, and Chico’s. Meme loved delicious food. She was always up for a good steak and made a point to leave room for something sweet.
Most of all, Meme loved her family. She created quite the legacy and her family delighted her to no end.
Mary Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Elmer Manning, Sr.; father, Otto Bassell Lee, Sr.; mother, Ora Elizabeth (Pullin) Lee; son Cecil Elmer Manning, Jr.; grandson, Matthew Tyler Manning; brother, Otto Bassell “Sonny” Lee; and sister, Valda Josephine “Buddye Jo” Lee Hodgkins.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Judge Toni (Manning) Higginbotham and Judge Leo Higginbotham of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; daughter, Kathy Manning of Lake Providence, Louisiana; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kathy Barnett-Manning of Columbia, Louisiana; stepson and his wife, Dr. Charles M. and Meagie Manning of Charlottesville, Virginia; stepdaughter, Cecile Richard of San Antonio, Texas; daughter-in-law, Sheila Manning of Monroe, Louisiana; 22 grandchildren who affectionately named her “Meme”: Whitney Higginbotham Greene, Prentist Higginbotham, Judge Beau Higginbotham, and Lee Higginbotham all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Cecil Elmer “Trey” Manning, III (Teri) of Springfield, Missouri; Cacey Manning Narez (Craig) of Coppell, Texas; Erin Fincher Weaver (Jeffrey) and Amy Fincher Starns of Monroe, Louisiana; Houston Hattaway (Chantel) of Denison, Texas; Lynn Kate Hattaway Johnson, of Fate, Texas; Patrick Hattaway (Leslie) of Central, Louisiana; Colt Manning of Monroe, Louisiana; Lee Randall Manning (Lara) of West Monroe, Louisiana; Drew Manning (Dani) of Monroe, Louisiana; Daniel Keeton of Dallas, Texas; Sam Keeton (Jennifer) of Alexandria, Louisiana; Carter Manning of Forest, Virginia; Bradley Manning of Charlottesville, Virginia; Marc Richard of Niceville, Florida; Michael Richard of San Antonio, Texas; Todd Richard of Birmingham, Alabama; 45 great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon (Lee) and Fred Donham of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are the grandsons.
Many of us prayed for our sweet Meme to peacefully ascend to heaven and our prayers were answered. We are thankful to Kim Wilder and appreciate her companionship, her gentle touch, and kindness to Meme when she needed it most.

Interment will be in the Providence Memorial Cemetery in Lake Providence. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Barbara Thomas was a caring wife, sister, mother, nanny, and friend. She left this world on May 22, 2023 at the age of 81 after a brief illness. She was fiercely devoted to her family, never missing a birthday, ball game, dance recital, graduation, or any opportunity where she could make her family feel special.
Barbara was born in Lake Providence, LA on September 9, 1941. She graduated from Lake Providence High School in 1959 where she played the clarinet and was a majorette. She made her career with Entergy where she worked in customer service until her retirement.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Gary Thomas of 35 years. Between them they had five children, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A long-time member of Highland Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA, Barbara served as a faithful member of her Sunday School class and church choir, as well as a multitude of ministries throughout her service to her church and community. She loved spending time in her garden and flower beds. She was a fantastic cook and loved sharing recipes with her friends and family. She was an expert seamstress and quilter and was a member of the Darbonne Ducks Quilters. She loved to gift her works to her friends and family.
Barbara also loved to travel. She and Gary visited all fifty U.S. States and many different countries. Of these trips, her favorite was visiting The Holy Land. She immersed herself there, retracing the steps of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
As Barbara reminded her family and friends in the last few weeks, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord for those who believe in and put their faith in Him. While our hearts are heavy with this loss, we rejoice in the fact that Barbara has arrived at her eternal home. Her faith has been made sight.
Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to all that she encountered and she will be missed dearly.
A special thank you to those who devoted their time and love to Barbara during her last 3 months. Your guidance, laughter and care will have an everlasting impact on us.

He passed into eternal life on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Legacy Nursing & Rehab in Tallulah, Louisiana.
Doug was born to Edna Mae Smith Webb and Bruce Wilson Webb. He was the oldest of 4 children born on August 28, 1939 in Hope, Arkansas. The Webb's moved to Tensas where they began their lives as sharecroppers. Soon after they went to Mounds and settled in Alsatia where Doug graduated from Lake Providence High School, he then began his life as a farmer and met the love of his life Audrey at Melbourne Baptist Church.
Doug and Audrey spent 58 precious years together. During those 58 years they remained active members of Melbourne Baptist Church. They shared 2 children whom he adored, Cheryl and Jamie who learned the love of Jesus through the reading of the Bible their parents shared with them every night. Even though farming took a turn for the worst and he tried to maintain his farm he knew he had to provide for his family so he took a position as the Manager of the Sunflower Grocery Store in Lake Providence then decided he would take a position with the East Carroll Police Jury Road and Drainage as Maintenance Supervisor and later retired. Doug then decided to try something a little different and began working for the East Carroll Parish Sheriff's Office as a Guard but was soon promoted to Mowing Crew Supervisor. As you can tell he loved the outdoors, if he wasn't in the pecan orchard checking on the trees he was in the garden making sure the vegetables were taken care of so he could provide for his family and others in the community. That's not where it ended though. Doug loved fishing and hunting, especially net fishing and it always did his heart good to get to see the grandsons kill a deer. He made it a point to be at any sporting event he could. Football was his favorite, he had to be at the top of the bleachers so he could watch the grandsons and brag on them after the game or tell them what they needed to work on. With Allison being the only granddaughter Doug had she was the apple of his eye. She always knew her PawPaw had a special shirt pocket that only she could go into and find her favorite piece of candy.
Doug was proceeded in death by his parents, a brother Tommy Webb and sister Ollie Webb Wiltcher. He is survived by his beautiful wife Audrey Johnston Webb, a daughter Cheryl Webb Winstead and husband Richard Tim Winstead of Tallulah, James D. Webb Jr. and wife Rebecca Lopez Webb of Alsatia. Grandchildren; Brent Douglas Webb (wife Victoria), Richard Curtis Winstead (wife Brittany), James Tyler Webb (wife Zoè) Logan Scott Webb (significant other Sydney Denny), William Connor Winstead, Landon Walker Webb and Allison Faith Webb. Great grandchildren; Ellie and Bella Webb and Blake, Karter and Ryleigh Winstead. Brother Doyle Webb (wife Angelle) of Bay St. Louis Mississippi Special friends include Matulos Lopez, the staff of Legacy Nursing and Rehabilitation of Tallulah. Elissa Cupit shared with the family that Mr. Doug was one of the sweet and most kind hearted men she knew. Gabby Wilkins shared that she loved being his "telephone operator" because she loved seeing him light up when he got to FaceTime his loved ones. In the last days Doug wanted to make sure his family knew he loved them.
Pallbearers include his grandsons, Curt Winstead, Tyler Webb, Logan Webb, Connor Winstead, Landon Webb and a nephew Brian Webb with Brent Webb serving as an honorary pallbearer.

Then 3 years, 3 months and 1 day later a second daughter, Donna was added to make this family of four. Early in their marriage, Shelby worked as a road grader operator for East Carroll Parish. It was here he learned to make roads. This skill was used later when his last job in life was a road grader operator with the parish. In between, he farmed mostly over the years and saw to the needs of his family and was always ready to lend a hand to family and friends alike.
He enjoyed camping in style, he owned several motor homes over the years and loved to travel and see our exciting nation. The first family vacation was in traveling to Colorado with his family of four and his parents. There were other trips in later years and each one was enjoyed.
After his girls married and moved away from home, he still enjoyed traveling and going to Bluegrass music festivals. He always enjoyed a good joke and was just as app to pull a prank as anyone. As time moved along he took excellent care of his wife who became ill with dementia. He never wavered from taking care of her. Even after she had to be moved to a nursing facility to receive adequate full-time care he went to visit as often as he could until the pandemic hit and then he called over there to check on her regularly.
He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great grands. He loved them all equally and would do anything for them. He leaves two sisters and two sister-in-laws whom he loved greatly. There are numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces who will miss him too.
He did not have to spend his last years alone. His daughter, Donna and her husband Rickey lived with him and helped him with all sorts of things.
The family wants to express our deepest gratitude to the staff of Carroll Pointe Nursing Facility in Oak Grove, LA for taking care or our dad. Also, to Dr. Kovac and Amy Hale for the excellent care they provided him.
