Virginia L. Drone - May 21, 1935 - February 19, 2022

Obituary Preview: Virginia L. Drone, age 86, of Harrisburg, but longtime Ridgway resident passed on this life in the Shawnee Rose Nursing Center on Saturday, February 19, 2022.  Virginia was born in Eldorado on May 21, 1935, to the late Leo and Violet (Rider) Ande.  She grew up in the Ponds Settlement and Eldorado area.  On November 23, 1955, she married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Drone who preceded her in death in 2013.
Virginia worked for more than 25 years at the Gallatin Co. State Bank now Banterra as a Teller.  She was a faithful member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church for over 65 years where she was also a member of the Altar Society.  She enjoyed talking on her phone, looking at her computer, cooking, and sewing.  Her real testimony in life though was taking care of daughter Becky who preceded her in 2015.
Virginia is survived by 2 daughters, Christine and Lewis Madden of Edgerton, MO and Brenda and Terry Wiles of Washington, IL  4 Grandchildren, Aaron (Dawn) Wiles, Kyle (Li) Wiles, Jason (Anna) Madden, and Rachel (Shawn) Kirkpatrick.  4 Great-grandchildren, Aurora, Lydia, Shawn and Avary.  2 brothers, Charles (Vicky) Ande and Don (Betty) Ande.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Becky and 2 Brothers, Robert and David Ande, and 2 sisters, Mary Rankins, and Betty Schmitt.
Visitation for Virginia will be on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway from 10:00 AM to 12 Noon.  Her funeral mass will immediately follow at 12 noon with Monsignor Joe Lawler celebrating.  She will then be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Ridgway. Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Kateri Altar Society in her memory.

Obituary Preview: Hubert L. Clifford, age 60, of Ridgway passed on this life, February 9, 2022 at his home.  Hubert was born in Carmi, IL on December31, 1961 to the late Hubert and Shirley (Brewer) Clifford.  He was raised in New Haven where he spent most of his life.
Hubert graduated from Ridgway High School, where he was a very good athlete. He then served his country in the United States Army.  He had been a carpenter most of his life.  Hubert loved to visit with his friends and his daughter, and always had a smile for you.  The last few years of poor health he was home a lot but he had his companion, a little dog named Cricket that went with him everywhere.   Hubert will be missed by many.
Hubert is survived by his daughter, Rachell Clifford of Arkansas, a brother, Carl (Angie) Clifford, 2 sisters, Evelyn Durbin and Threasa (Eric) Clifford, his little dog Cricket, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be held at a later date and will be announced.

Francis D. "Deon" Woods - Unknown - February 05, 2022

Obituary Preview: Francis D. “Deon” Woods, age 73, longtime Omaha, IL resident passed on this life, February 5, 2022 in Ferrell Hospital, Eldorado, IL.  Deon as most knew him was born on April 7, 1948 to the late Corbett and Opal (Sauls) Woods.  On November 25, 1967 he married the love of his life, Janet (Loderback) Woods.  They have enjoyed 54 years of love.
Deon graduated from Ridgway High School and in 1968 was drafted into the United States Army.  He served his country faithfully in Vietnam.  After returning from the service Janet and Deon came back home and started raising their family.  He worked for almost 34 years for Bi- Petro Oil before retiring. He was a true outdoorsman; he loved to fish and hunt.  Deon had a work ethic second to none always staying busy and providing for his family.  He loved his family dearly but his life became his grandchildren.  Deon will be remembered but never forgot as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his wife, Janet of Omaha, 2 daughters, Dee Dee (Brian) Downs of Fairfield, Debbie (Jason) Davis of Omaha, 2 grandchildren, Lindsey (Ryan) Owen, and Khloe Davis, 2 great grandchildren, Janelle and Camilla Owen and 1 sister, Darlene (Ed) Brown of Raleigh, IL.  He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ray and Dickie Woods
Visitation for Deon will be Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.  His funeral will be on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the funeral home starting at 11:00 AM.  Rev. Rick Strole will officiate and he will be laid to rest in the Hazel Ridge Cemetery near Omaha with Military rites.

Anthony J. "Tony" Sauls - August 11, 1971 - February 04, 2022

Obituary Preview: Anthony J. Sauls, age 50, longtime Ridgway resident, passed on this life, unexpectedly on Feb. 4, 2022, in Harrisburg Medical Center.  Tony as most knew him was born in Gary, IN to Charles (Mike) & Kathleen (Payton) Sauls.  He is married to Lora (Jackson) Sauls.
Tony was the glue to the family always keeping everyone together and always happy and funny.  He had an unbelievable work ethic from being a Coal Miner, a Farm Hand for many years and most recently starting his own Trucking company which he was so excited to begin.  He was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and Steelers football fan, he loved to play in the snow.   His most important part of life was his family, they were always first.  He would do anything for his kids, making sure they got anything they wanted, he loved watching them in sports and was always the loudest cheerleader in the gym. Tony was a good husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be missed by many in and around Gallatin County.
Tony is survived by his wife, Lora of Ridgway, children, Josh Jackson, Jared (Nicole) Pemberton, Alex Sauls, Alexa Sauls.  His mother Kathy Sauls. A brother Michael Sauls and a sister, Melissa Crissup. His grandchildren, are Jaicee Jackson, Kayson Jackson, and Mason Pemberton.  Tony was preceded in death by his father Mike Sauls, a niece Delaney Mayberry and a grand nephew, Benjamin Sauls.
Visitation for Tony will be on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  His funeral ceremony will be on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, at the funeral home starting at 1:00 PM.  Rev. Roger Hobbs will officiate.   Tony will be laid to rest in the Palestine #2 Cemetery near Omaha.

Linda F. McGuire - February 23, 1941 - January 31, 2022

Obituary Preview: Linda F. McGuire, age 80, of Ridgway, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2022, in Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro.
Linda was born on the family farm on February 23, 1941, to the late Martin and Louise (Wenzel) Abell.  She grew up in the Pond Settlement Community east of Ridgway, attending Keane school for 1 year, then graduating grade school from St. Joseph Catholic School in Ridgway and Ridgway High School.
The love of Linda’s life was her husband Charles, who she affectionately referred to as “Charlie”. They were married on July 15, 1959.  They were an inseparable couple, who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with their family.  Her loving and kind ways were not limited to her own family.  Through her home child care, Linda touched many lives in the surrounding area.
Her love of family extended to St Kateri Parish family.   She was a very faithful person, always living her life for the Lord.  Linda was a faithful member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church and Altar Society.   She loved to help in the kitchen for parish dinners and especially the Ham and Bean dinners.
Linda was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kindness, sweet disposition, and smile.
Linda is survived by her husband, Charles McGuire of Ridgway, her son and daughter-in-law, Tim (Lisa) McGuire of Newburgh, IN, Daughter in Law, Lori McGuire of Woodbury, MN. Grandchildren, Matthew (Abby) McGuire, Benjamin McGuire, Kaitlyn (Brayden) Cartwright, Kasey (David) Byrley, and Dr. Ryan (Jett) McGuire.  Great Grandchildren, Olivia and Liam McGuire, Mason Cartwright, McKenna, and Adalynn Byrley.  She is also survived by 4 Brothers, Bob (Barbara) Abell, Richard (Barb) Abell, Larry (Connie) Abell, and Pat Abell, 1 sister, Cathy (Jim) Smith.  2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob (Judy) McGuire and Fred (Peg) McGuire.  She is preceded in death by 2 sons, Mark and Charles Anthony McGuire, and a brother, Fr. Don Abell.
Visitation for Linda will be Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.  Her funeral mass will immediately follow with Fr. Vincent Mukasa and Msgr. Joe Lawler celebrating.  She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in Ridgway.
Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Kateri Church in her memory and envelopes will be available.  Masks are required while inside the church.

Wendell Eugene Lacefield - January 21, 1944 - January 09, 2022

Obituary Preview: Wendell Eugene Lacefield, age 77 of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and formerly of Carmi, IL passed on this life peacefully on January 9, 2022, in Florida. Wendell was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 21, 1944, to the late Eugene and Naomi (Swader) Lacefield.  After high school, Wendell became a United States Marine serving his country from 1961 – 1966
In September of 1963, he married the love of his life, the former Kathy (Koesterer) Lacefield who survives.  After serving his country Wendell managed a Nuclear Power Plant for Ameren before retiring.  His real love was working in the dirt as he said.  He had a farm in Illinois that he loved to take care of.  His work ethic was second to none.  Wendell and Kathy enjoyed camping and boating and when they started having grandchildren they went to Florida.  He was a good husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by many.
Survived by his wife, Kathy of New Smyrna Beach, Fl, a son, Todd Lacefield of Mexico, Missouri, and a daughter Wendy Woodard (fiancé’ Michael Knight), New Smyrna Florida, 2 grandchildren, Dagny and Landon.
Graveside services on January 14, 2022, at 11:00 AM will precede burial at the Odd Fellows Cemetery near Norris City where Military rites will be accorded at the grave by the Ridgway American Legion and the United States Marine Corp.  Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery. Obituary Preview: Tamara J. Sparks, age 61 of Eldorado, IL passed on this life January 1, 2022 in Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, IN.  Tammy as most knew her, was born in Eldorado, on July 1, 1959 to the late Leonard and Shirley (Riley) Davis.
Tammy was raised in Northwest Gallatin County in the community known as Oak Grove.  She had worked for 28 years with Golden Circle as an adult day care nurse.  She loved to fish, knit and especially music.  She always was happy when playing her guitar or piano.  She was a hard worker, always helping others, especially her family.  She will be missed.
Tammy is survived by 2 daughters, Christal Essary and Megan Cook, both of Eldorado.  8 Grandchildren and a brother Lenny Davis of Eldorado.  She was also preceded in death by a grandchild and her older sister Vivian Davis.

Obituary Preview: Angela Marlene Lynch (Padget), age 50, passed away on December 22, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born December 19, 1971 in Eldorado, IL to Roy and Marlene Lynch, who reside in Ridgway, IL.
Angela was an amazing mother to her three daughters- Jordan (Eric) Waddle of Harrisburg, Chloe Padget of Ridgway, and Jaclyn Padget (who proceeds her in death). Angela also was one of the worlds proudest Mimi’s to her beautiful granddaughters - Ava, Lennox, and Cora Waddle.  Family was everything to Angela, . Angela is survived also by her sister Sonya (Rick) Tabb of Mt. Vernon IN, sister Mandy (Frank) Pennington of Ridgway IL and many nieces and nephews whom she loved so much.
For many years she worked as a CNA & caretaker. She enjoyed nurturing and caring for those in need, and building relationships with those needing a listening ear.  Angela enjoyed a good road trip. Her favorite traveling times were going to MS to spend time with her family there.  She had a love for planning events and shopping, which explains why Christmas was her favorite holiday. Although it saddens us, she will not be around our tree celebrating this year, it gives her family great peace knowing she will be in Heaven watching over them on Christmas morning.
Visitation for Angela will be on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  Her funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home starting at 2:00 PM with Mike Rushing officiating.  She will then be laid to rest next to her daughter in Hogan Cemetery south of Shawneetown. Obituary Preview: Josephine South age 82, resident of Shawneetown Illinois passed on this life December 19, 2021 at Deaconess Midtown in Evansville, IN. Josephine was born on August 11, 1939 in Glasgow, Scotland to the late Joseph and Isabelle Gordon. She married the love of her life Kenny South.
Josephine loved music just as much as she loved dancing. Everyone knew her favorite music came from Merle Haggard. She couldn’t resist Chicken-n- Dumplings or a plate full of Biscuits & Gravy. She loved to spend time surrounded by family and friends. She will truly be missed by many.
Josephine is survived by daughters, Terri Cummings, Tammy Sullivan and Tracy Patton. Brother Frankie of Scotland and sister Ann of Scotland. 5 Grandchildren, Heather Hyatt, Cory Lamprich, Deanna Payne, Scott DeFever, and Ryan (Candace) Jordan. 4 Great Grandchildren, Krystal, Joseph, Onna, and Mason Lamprich. 4 Great Great Grandchildren Austin, Jacoblyn, Draven, and Brennan.
She is preceded in death by her husband Kenny South.  A memorial service will be held at a later date for Josephine South.

Bricem A Cox - May 28, 1923 - December 16, 2021

Obituary Preview: Bricem A. Cox, 98, lifelong resident North East of Ridgway passed peacefully on December 16, 2021 surrounded by by his family at Parkway Manor in Marion, IL.
Bricem was born on the family farm May 28, 1923 to the late Jonathan A. & Effie E. (Murphy) Cox.  On June 24, 1942 he married the love of his life, Florence K. (Gregg) Cox.  Bricem and Florence had lived North of Ridgway for over 70 years on the family farm where they raised their family until her death May 23, 2015.
Bricem was a lifelong farmer and livestock producer.  His greatest joy was watching the family farm continue into the next generations.  He and Florence loved to travel and toured many farming operations abroad.  He collected antique tractor seats, loved to garden and watch the spring planting and fall harvest of the crops.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Ridgway and served as elder for many years.  He was a 50 year member of the Ridgway Masonic Lodge and Gallatin County Farm Bureau.
Bricem is survived by, 3 sons, Mike & Jeanie Cox, Robert & Sharyon Cox, and Gerald & Tracy Cox. 4 grandchildren, Tammy (Bruce) Arnold, Michael (Angie) Cox, Leslie (Brad) Thompson, and Tracy Cox. 7 Great Great Grandchildren, Peyton and Noah Arnold, Jonathan and Gracie Cox, Ellen, Brice and Blake Thompson.  2 special nieces, Barbara (Cox) Schoolmeesters, and Kay (Cox) Smullen.  Niece, Bridgett Evers and Nephews, Pat & Tim Gregg.  He was preceded in death also by 4 brothers, and 4 sisters.
Per his request, there will be a private graveside service with burial in Old Cottonwood Cemetery where he will be laid to rest by his wife, Florence.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Southern Il. Hospice or Shriners Hospital for Children.

Tommy L. Sork - March 07, 1953 - December 15, 2021

Obituary Preview: Tommy L. Sork, age 68, lifelong Ridgway resident passed on this life, December 15, 2021 in Deaconess Hospital, Henderson, KY.  Tommy was born in Eldorado, IL on March 7, 1953 to the late Edgar and Norma (Tarrants) Sork.
He attended and graduated from Ridgway High School where he was in Band.  He worked for many years at the Ridgway Popcorn Plant where he retired from.  Tommy was a faithful member for many years of the Ridgway First Baptist Church before his health issues caused him to stay home.  He was a huge St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan and a fan of Tom Brady in football.  He also enjoyed board games.  Tom was always a polite and considerate person with a joyful soul.  He will be missed.
Tommy is survived by his sister, Donna (Charlie) Corbin, an aunt, Jo Boester and 2 uncles, Lyndal Sork and Lonnie Sauls.  Many cousins and friends.  He also preceded by his caretaker, Brenda Melton. Visitation for Tommy will be on Sunday, December 19, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway.  His funeral service will be on Monday, December 20, 2021 at the funeral home starting at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ellen L. Sork - July 18, 1951 - December 14, 2021

Obituary Preview: Ellen Louise Cox Sork passed away at her home in Ridgway, IL surrounded by her family. Ellen was born to Frank “Teetle” Cox and Dorothy Davis Cook on July 18, 1951. She was an exceptional wife, mother, and sister. On December 11, 1967, she married the love of her life, Lyndal R. Sork.
Ellen was highly involved with Lyndal in his ministry and served as the Ladies Ministry President for the various churches that he pastored. She was a member of the Ridgway IL Souls Harbor Church of God. Ellen was known for her cooking, gardening, taking care of her cats and dogs, which she called her “babies”, and housework, but mostly well-known for being a woman of faith. According to Ellen, the most important event in her life was her acceptance of Christ as her Savior and Lord, in which she would state, “That’s when I started living”. She enjoyed reading her bible, leading singing at her local church, testifying of her faith in God, serving as the Ladies Ministry President, and contacting laity and ministers and their spouses to encourage them and to assist in any way.
Surviving are her husband and two sons, Jason Wayne Sork and Gregory Wade Sork, of Ridgway, IL; a brother, Frank/Lynda Cox of Norris City, IL; a brother, Charles Wayne Cox of Ridgway, IL; a half-brother, Eddie Cunningham of Huntingburg, IN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a stepfather, Leon Cook; and a half-brother, Lawrence Cook.
Visitation will be Saturday December 18, 2021 from 11AM – 1 PM at Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway, IL. Funeral Service will immediately follow starting at 1PM with Rev. Randy Sork and Rev. Harol Whitlock. Ellen’s Interment will immediately follow at Jackson Cemetery in Ridgway, IL.

Harold B. Vaught - January 27, 1935 - November 26, 2021

Obituary Preview: Harold B. Vaught, age 86, lifelong Gallatin County resident, passed on this life, November 27, 2021 in Harrisburg Medical Center.  Harold was born in Eagle Creek Twp to the late John and Eula (Williams) Vaught.
Harold graduated from Equality High School in 1951.  He worked for over 40 years as the custodian of Gallatin County Courthouse before retiring.  Harold was very active his entire life in the Democrat party and was Precinct Committeeman for over 30 years in Bowlesville Twp. where had also served as Twp. Trustee.   Harold loved St. Louis Cardinal baseball and very seldom missed a game on TV or radio. The area he lived most of his life on Route 1 was called Gibsonia and he was referred to as the Mayor of Gibsonia, and when people said that to him, he would give you that big smile.  His real love was his faith, he was a lifelong member of the Pisgah General Baptist Church, where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent.  He was always a kind and caring person who will be missed.
Harold is survived by cousins, his church and courthouse family and his special friends whom have looked after him for many years.  Naomi and Ed Acord.
Visitation for Harold will be on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Pisgah General Baptist Church from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  His funeral service will immediately follow with Rev. Steve Hunt officiating.  He will then be laid to rest in Leamington Cemetery next to his parents.

Ryan K. Kilmer - September 17, 1975 - November 14, 2021

Obituary Preview: Ryan K. Kilmer, 46, of Shawneetown, IL, passed away on November 14, 2021. He is the son of Karen Bard (James) Keasler of Ridgway and Keith (Jo) Kilmer of Buncombe. He was born on September 17, 1975, and graduated from Gallatin County High School. He worked as an electrician and had certifications in radioactive safety, programmable logic controllers, nuclear monitoring, and an extensive list of offshore certifications.
Ryan was able to use his talent and handy skills to help friends. He loved telling stories, spending time with friends, and being with his family. He found joy in being able to make people laugh and spending time enjoying life with the people he loved.
He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Brad Kilmer of Evansville, IN and Bruce Kilmer of Oslo, Norway; three sisters, Abigail Keasler, Champaign, IL and Kallie Keasler of St. Louis, MO, and Sarah Kilmer;  three aunts, Denise (Al) White of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Diane (Jerry) Love of Longs, SC, and Cecilia (Mark) Wilson of Bussey, IA; three uncles, Bruce (Linda) Bard of Folsom, LA, Rick (Pam) Bard of Marion, IL and Rex (Jaz) Barnhart of Henderson, KY; and cousins, LaDawn Avis, Brian White, Julie Graves, David Graves, Katie Hepker, Drew Wilson, Michael McLachlan, and Michael Mrocka; and a special friend, Cheryle Dozier Gunter. He was preceded in death by his brother Kris Kilmer of Ridgway;  his grandparents Ike and Mary Bard of Shawneetown, George Kilmer of Shawneetown, and Clyde and Nigel Barnhart of Henderson, KY; an aunt Tawana Mrocka of Evansville, IN; an uncle Ron Barnhart of Ft. Lauderhills, FL; and a cousin James McLachlan of Covington, LA.
Visitation at St. Kateri in Ridgway, IL will be Saturday, November 20, 2021 beginning at 9 a.m. with the funeral mass at 11 a.m. with Father Vincent Mukasa Celebrating Mass, Burial will immediately follow in St. Joseph Cemetery where he rest next to his brother.

Obituary Preview: James B. Kopman, age 61 of Elizabethtown, IL (High Knob Area) passed on this life, October 29, 2021.  James was born in Hill Crest, IL on October 6, 1960 to the late Harold and Hazel (Colbert) Kopman.
James was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing and hunting.  He learned to paint cars at young age., but was known for his expert transmission repair.  He was retired from Jim Hayes in Jan. 2021 after 33 years of service.  While there he continued with updated training becoming a Star Chrysler mechanic.  James loved working on and building his 69 Roadrunner for car shows with friends.  He really enjoyed keeping everyone fed with his cooking, riding horses and hanging out with his friends on the back porch.  He was a good father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by many.
James is survived by, his son, Bryan (Brandy) Kopman, a daughter, Jamie (Rob) Harrington, grandchildren, Bella Kopman, Brennan Harrington, Riley Harrington and Sierra (Harrington) Aloffo.  One sister, Linda (Rich) Banis. Along with a host of friends.
A memorial gathering will be on Friday, November 5, 2021 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 12 PM at his home and everyone is welcome.

Dana A. Wargel - August 18, 1955 - September 09, 2021

Obituary Preview: Dana A. Wargel, age 66 lifelong Ridgway resident passed on this life at his home, surrounded by his family on September 9, 2021.  Dana was born in Springfield, IL on August 18, 1955 to the late Eunice Louise (Pitt) Bullock and James Albert Bullock. In 1958 he was adopted by Mary C. (Daily) Wargel and John M. Wargel who preceded him in death.   On October 5, 1985 he married the love of his life, Crystal (Paul) Wargel who survives.
Dana attended St. Joseph Grade School and Ridgway High School where he graduated in 1973.  He worked at GE in Mt. Vernon for 42 years before retiring.  He loved to play Golf, be outside and garden.  Dana was a good woodworker.  He had personality as large as life, some called him by his nickname, “Dawg” and when he laughed in a crowd you knew who it was.  He was always laughing and enjoying his time with others, but especially his children and now grandchildren.  Dana will be missed by many.
Dana is survived by his wife Crystal of Ridgway, a son, Dane (Phoenix) Wargel of Mt. Vernon, IN, a daughter, Emily (William) Ragan of Ridgway, IL Grandchildren, Penelope and Ryker.  4 sisters, Marsha (Rick) Zirkelbach, Jan (Mike) Grover, Paula Duggan, and Karen (Andy) Smith.  He was preceded in death by a brother Phillip Bullock.
Visitation for Dana will be on Monday, September 13, 2021 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  A graveside service will be on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Ridgway at 11:00 AM.  Fr. Vincent Mukasa will preside.

Obituary Preview: John M Tate, age 83 of Owensboro, KY (formerly of Mt Vernon, IN) went to his Heavenly home on August 25, 2021. John was born December 25th, 1937 in Galatia, Illinois to the late Gilbert and Ruby (Pemberton) Tate, also preceded in death by sister Betty (Tate) Hankins, in-laws James and Ruth Dixon and brother-in-law Darrel Dixon. His first wife Darla (Dixon) Tate died in 1998 after raising their four grown children. He is survived by his wife of 16 years Donna (Mills) Tate, son Mark Tate of Evansville, Kristina Miller (Brad) of Green Mountain Falls, Colorado, Jica MacLeod (Ken) of Fort Edward, New York and John D Tate (Lesley) of Santa Claus, IN. Also surviving are sister-in-law Linda Gossett (Don) and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews that he truly loved and adored. John grew up in Galatia, Illinois and graduated from Galatia Consolidated High School in 1956 where he was known for being a talented basketball player. After working several jobs after high school, he joined the Air Force in 1958 and served full time for four years and the reserves for two years. He was mainly stationed at Andersen AFB in Guam and Andrews AFB in Maryland. While stationed in Guam he traveled to Hawaii, Japan and Taiwan on the Air Force Base basketball team. He married Darla Dixon at the end of his Air Force years and they lived in Washington DC for a year before moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he took a job working as a Radio Operator for Collins Radio Company. While working at Collins Radio Company, he had multiple communications with Air Force One while JFK was in office. After having their first two children in Iowa (Mark and Kristina), the family moved closer to home to Mt. Vernon, Indiana where John lived until 2005 after Darla’s passing in 1998. John worked as an insurance agent when they moved back to Mt. Vernon, then worked as a laborer for Deig Brothers for over 20 years. John then spent another 15 years working for GE Plastics in Mt Vernon where he retired around 2001. John and Darla raised their four kids in Mt. Vernon and they attended First Baptist Church and Mt. Vernon General Baptist Church. John was a hard working man who always put his family first and loved Jesus. John never met a stranger and will be remembered for his smile and gentle spirit. In 2005, John met and married the second love of his life Donna (Mills) Tate after she had lost her first husband and they loved each other up to his last breath. John gained another family that loved him including Donna’s grown children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Donna spent several years trying to convert John to a UK fan, his son John made sure this wouldn’t happen and gave them both a hard time often. John usually wore his IU hat when he visited Santa Claus, even though he was seen many times with a UK hat on in Owensboro! John attended Owensboro Christian Church with his wife Donna and would regularly be seen shooting around in the recreation center. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s school and sports events over the years. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and let them know this often. Without a doubt “well done good and faithful servant” was spoken on August 25th . Visitation will be held at Cox Funeral Home in Ridgway, Illinois from 2:30-4:30pm on Saturday, August 28th with service beginning at 4:30pm. Burial to follow at Jackson Cemetery in Ridgway.

Lillian was always helping other people, a hard worker, and a very proud person.  She loved to Crochet, Quilt, be outdoors, especially gardening.  Lillian really enjoyed her family and always loved to be with them.  Her contagious smile and gently spirit will always be remembered. Lillian is survived by her sons, Carl (Mary) Farler of Equality, IL, George (Ina) Farler of Mt. Obituary Preview: Carroll Gene Bond, age 71, lifelong Ridgway resident passed on this life at his home on August 24, 2021.  Gene as most knew him was born in Ridgway, IL to the late O.F. & Lorene (Clark) Bond on May 26, 1950.  In 1969 he married to the love of his life the former Sandy (Heath) Bond.
Gene graduated from Ridgway High School and worked at the family business for many years, Bond Lumber and Sawmill in Ridgway.  He loved being outside.  Logging in the woods was his real love and later in life he spent many hours in his garden and taking care of his yard.  He was a member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway where he and Sandy attended faithfully before their sickness.   He was a faithful servant to his wife for over 50 years.  He will be missed by many.
Gene is survived by his wife, Sandy Bond of Ridgway, a daughter Rony Lynn Watkins (Billy Nix) of Gulf Shores, AL, a granddaughter, Sybria Dawn Durham, deceased grandson, Andrew “Andy” Heath, 2 brothers, Clark Bond and Carl (Linda) Bond, and a sister, Joyce Bond.  Many nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by his brothers, Cleve, Cletus “Doc” and Doug Bond.

Obituary Preview: Clinton James Richardson, age 18, affectionately known as “CJ” passed on this life to soon on July 31, 2021 as result from an automobile accident.  CJ was born in Newburg, IN the second child of Kevin and Tina (Fals) Richardson.
When all of us think of CJ we think of grit, work ethic, discipline, determination, success, etc.  We think of his athleticism in any sport he attempted, Baseball, Basketball, Golf in each he became one of the best.  We think of his kindness, his leadership, his concern for others, as some would say he acts like an Old Soul.   His obituary could go on for pages of accomplishments, acts of mercy, funny stories, his love for everyone especially his savior, but one of his teachers put it best.
When I think of CJ, a smile instantly begins to spread across my face.  It was a privilege to have him in class.  As a teacher, it is part of my job to inspire others, but CJ was an inspiration to me.  He was a breath of fresh air, standing out amongst his peers.  He had an infectious smile and a warmth about him.  There were times he would stay after class to visit; he was so personable.  CJ was kind, genuine, and had a way about him that made others feel special.  CJ was not one to shy away from hard work, and he was driven to succeed in his endeavors.
CJ was present in every moment, experiencing life to the utmost.  He was an unforgettable young man.  He had a life well lived, full of integrity.  CJ has left this world a brighter place and our lives were enriched by knowing him.
CJ is survived by his parents, Kevin and Tina Richardson of Norris City, IL, his grandparents, Jim & Kay Richardson of New Haven, IL, Steve & Sheila Fals of Cottonwood, IL and his great grandmother, Janice Gross of Cottonwood, IL.  Many Uncles, Aunts, Cousins and to many friends to count.  He is preceded in death by his beloved sister Brittany Richardson.
Visitation for CJ will be Thursday, August 5, 2021 at The Roads church in Norris City, IL from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.  His funeral service will immediately follow at the church at 2:00 PM.  Pastor Chad Everett will officiate the service and CJ will be laid to rest in the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven. Clifford Dale Ozee - May 19, 1934 - July 19, 2021

Obituary Preview: Clifford Dale Ozee, a long-time resident of the Gallatin County area, joined his Heavenly Father on July 19, 2021. Clifford Dale was born May 19, 1934, on the farm in the Bowlesville area, the seventh child to Alvin and Edna (Patton) Ozee. Of humble beginnings, Clifford Dale valued family and hard work to achieve his dreams. He insisted on integrity and fairness to all. His hand shake was as strong as his faith, “boulder sized Mustard seed”, as stated by a friend. He served his country proudly in the United States Army as a Sp 4 from 1957 to 1959. Upon returning from the service, this man of many talents was a meat cutter, heavy equipment operator, truckdriver, fluorspar miner, farmer, welder, logger, and a steel guitar player. Music was his passion. Over the years he played with many musicians and local bands, Sounds of Country and his final performances were with Sounds of Country Gospel. Clifford Dale was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He loved his family and was very proud of all of their accomplishments. He leaves behind the mother of his children Claudine Ozee of Elizabethtown, daughter Renee (Dale) Patton of Elizabethtown, grandchildren Brandy and Blake, and his great-grandson Bradley Wayne Patton, daughter Mechele Hall (fiancé Doug Hale) of Harrisburg, grandchildren Carley and Mason Hall. In addition, Margaret “Marg” Hendrix of Ridgway, his best friend and in his words, “the best thing that ever happen to me”. Bonus sons Charlie Hall, Beecher and Mark Williams, a bonus grandson John Langan, his baby brother Walter “Tom” (Linda) Ozee and many nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends. Clifford blessed many with his generosity throughout his 87 years. He never met a stranger and insisted on truth and honesty. Those who knew Clifford Dale knew that he was not afraid of death and strongly believed in Heaven. He would always say, “I’m too mean for the ole devil and the good Lords’ not ready for me yet.” There will be a private burial per his request, but the family would be honored if all family and friends would join them on Saturday, July 24th at 11:30 AM at the home of Dale and Renee Patton for a celebration of life to honor his memory. Obituary Preview: DOROTHY I. DRONE 92 years old of Effingham formally of Ridgway, Illinois died peacefully on Thursday evening  July 8, 2021, at 11:00 pm at Lavender Ridge Assisted Living, Effingham, Illinois where she had resided for the past few years.
Born: February 23, 1929, in Shawneetown, Illinois one of 5 siblings into the Christian family of Carney Rash. and Christina (Logsdon)-Rash-Frailey.  Dorothy married William “Bill” Drone on January 12, 1948, in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Shawneetown, Illinois Besides being a homemaker and raising a family with her late husband Bill Drone she was also employed by the Skaggs-Reeder Drug Store for over 24 years. When we think of someone who was well-known and well thought of in and around Ridgway, you only have to say one word “Dot”. Whether she was refilling coffee cups, visiting with friends at their “round table” or counting pills at the local pharmacy, she always had a big smile and kind words for everyone.
Dot was a great cook and hostess to many friends and was incredibly involved with her family from their years though grandchildren and great grandchildren. They all loved spending time with Papa and Gramm’s and her superb cooking. Holidays and Popcorn Days saw the Drone home filled to capacity.
She was kind and considerate to neighbors and always showed up with food when friends were sick or someone she knew died. Dot had an infectious laugh and enjoyed reading, parties, family sports, playing bridge, traveling, cross stitching quilt blocks for children and grandchildren and just being with those she loved.
When her eyesight failed and took away a lot of her joys she still remained upbeat and good-natured.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021, at St. Kateri Catholic Church, Ridgway, Illinois from 10:00 am until 11:30 am.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, July 17, 2021, at St. Kateri Catholic Church which will be live streamed at st.kateri facebook page for those who can not attend with Rev. Fr. Steven Beatty and Rev. Fr. Christian Iwagwu officiating. Jack was married on March 21, 1970 to the former Frances (Stennett) and she survives.  He had retired from the coal industry after many years.  Jack was an avid Chicago Cub fan, loved to fish, garden, bird watch, take care of his flowers.  His real love was his family especially going to and watching his grandchildren competing in sports.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed.
Jack is survived by his wife, Frances, a son, Keith Lane of Evansville, IN, daughters, Jackie Ramsey of Ridgway and Beverly Staten of New Haven.  His grandchildren, Hannah, Mitchell, Seth, Jazmine, cierra and Odin.  A sister, Marilyn Diver of Colorado.  Many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Pumphrey. Visitation for Jack will be on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  His funeral will immediately follow with Mike Buckman officiating.  Jack will then be laid to rest in the Jackson cemetery near Ridgway with military rites
