Jerry Allen Kahle - May 22, 1948 - March 11, 2024

Departed: 03/11/2024 (Wellington)
Obituary Preview: Jerry Allen Kahle passed away on March 11, 2024 at the age of 75. Born on May 22, 1948, Jerry's journey began in Newkirk, Oklahoma, where he resided through childhood and on into his forties. It was here where he learned to work hard on the family farm while also developing his witty charm that he would come to be known for.
Jerry was a loving husband to Patricia Gleason, whom he wooed, wed and made a life with for over 27 years. The pair quickly turned Wellington from a mere pin on the map into a home filled with laughter and love. Jerry was as smart as he was funny, and his tales of trucking adventures from coast to coast often left listeners in stitches. He loved his work, the open road, and the countless people he met along the way. His stories were so good, and long, you'd be forgiven for thinking he must have been pulling your leg or for sneaking away from a long visit at the store. No worries- Jerry loved people and was always ready with a not-so-quick quip and a helping hand. Being on the road allowed him to listen to lots of music and he loved sharing songs with his family and getting Pat to dance a few with him. In his freetime, Jerry loved gardening, fishing and occasionally mistaking a common carp for a world record bass.
While Jerry loved his family, this was only surpassed by his adoration of being a grandpa and his devotion to the First Christian Church. It was at church where he honed his amateur auctioneer skills at many pie auctions over the years. Proverbs 17:22 says, "A cheerful heart is good medicine," and Jerry was always ready with a dose of laughter for those around him. Those lucky enough to have known Jerry are left with memories of a man who never knew a stranger and lived life with joyous abandon.
Surviving Jerry is his loving wife, Pat Gleason of the home; his son, Jaquess Kahle and wife Lisa of Blackwell, Oklahoma; three daughters; step-son, Trampas Gleason and wife Pam of Wellington; step-daughter, Christi Keller and husband Neal of Wichita; step-daughter, Katie Trunnell and husband Tyler of Cedar Falls, Iowa and his beloved grandchildren and step-grandchildren: Jaquen Kahle, Jaeger Kahle, Laken Kahle, Grant Sandell and wife Rachel, Hunter Sandell and wife Morgan, Ava Keller, Isabel Gleason, Chase Keller, Piper Trunnell and great-grandchildren: Oakley and Harvey Sandell. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hazel Kahle and a brother, Ray Kahle.

Vera Adell Parker - December 16, 1927 - February 19, 2024

Departed: 02/19/2024 (Wellington)
Obituary Preview: Vera Adell (Simpson) Parker, 96, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, and Sister passed away Monday, February 19, 2024.
Born December 16, 1927, in Waynoka, Oklahoma, Vera was the second youngest of six children born to Edna (Ross) and Floyd Simpson. Vera quickly learned to enjoy the simple things in life being raised during the 1930’s dust bowl. Her Christmas list one year consisted of a store-bought loaf of white bread. She found it under the decorated cedar tree Christmas morning. Vera also became an excellent horseback rider at an early age. She had many tales of rounding up cattle, dodging rattlesnakes and all-around farm life experiences.
Vera’s sister set up a blind date which she refused. After much persuasion Vera agreed to go but, (and this was according to Vera), she did not look at her date the entire evening. A few days later she noticed a handsome man in town and her sister was surprised when Vera didn’t recognize him. He was her date she refused to look at. Soon after, a romance bloomed. After this man returned from the Navy, during World War II, they got engaged. She married Raymond Conway Parker on October 30, 1946, in Alva, Oklahoma.
After getting married Vera and Raymond (Ray) Parker moved to Medicine Lodge with Ray taking a job as a station employee for the Santa Fe railroad. Vera took a job at the local IGA grocery store. In their spare time they folded egg cartons for five cents a carton for extra money. Ray and Vera moved to Wellington four years later. Ray continued working for the Santa Fe. They were active members of the First Christian Church.
Ray and Vera had one son, Ronald Gene Parker, born December 19,1953 and one daughter, Dana Rae Parker, born June 27, 1955. Ray worked many part-time jobs while Vera raised the children. When Dana reached second grade Vera got a job as an employee at the Wellington First National Bank. Both Ray and Vera retired from these jobs. Ray retired in 1983 and Vera retired nine years later in 1992. They both enjoyed traveling, collecting carnival glass and spending time at their cabin just outside Medicine Lodge. The cabin, next to a small lake became a favorite gathering place for family. Family was everything to Ray and Vera.
Later, Ray and Vera purchased a home in Weslaco, Texas and spent winters there from 1997 to 2002. Vera continued to winter in Weslaco for two years after Ray passed away in 2000.
Vera never sold their original house in Wellington. She sold her Weslaco, Texas home and moved back to Wellington permanently in 2002. She became an active bridge and pitch player, sometimes belonging to three or more groups. Vera never met a stranger and kindness was her nature. She continued being active in the First Christian Church until she was no longer mobile enough to attend. Vera was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Vera eventually sold her home and moved into a smaller apartment and managed to move all her carnival glass and stay in her bridge and pitch clubs. Finally, she moved into Homestead Assisted Living. She remained there, easily making more friends, until her death.
Vera leaves behind brother, Franklin Simpson, son, Ronald Parker and wife Robyn Parker, daughter, Dana Norris and husband Bill Norris, grandsons, Nathaniel Parker and wife Nao Parker, Matthew Parker and wife Rani O’Brien, Brady Norris, granddaughter, Abbey Clark and her husband Jordy, great granddaughters, Lilia and Aika Parker, Ellie and Rory Clark, great grandsons, Hayden and Wyatt Norris, and many nieces and nephews.
Vera will be missed by anyone who knew her. She was gentle, kind, loving and full of grace.
A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday evening, February 23, 2024, with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services for Vera will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the First Christian Church, 123 W. 9th St., Wellington, Kansas. Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens, Wellington, Kansas.
Memorial contributions can be given in her name and loving memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 3 International Drive, Suite 200, Rye Brook, NY 10573. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
