James Edward Whistler - August 15, 1947 - August 15, 2023

Departed: 08/15/2023 (Corsicana)
Obituary Preview: On his 76th birthday Jimmy took leave of his earthly body and went with the angels to the bosom of Abraham.
Jimmy was born in Corsicana, Texas to AJ and Metha Edith Wigley Whistler. He was the 5th child of 6 born to the couple. He attended Bowie Elementary, Sam Houston Elementary, Drane Jr. High and graduated from Corsicana High School in 1965. After graduation he attended Navarro Jr. College on a well-earned scholarship.
At the age of 12 Jimmy took his first job as a paper boy. He diligently pursued education and employment from then on, working for a fence company, as a car hop at KN Root Beer Stand, on the loading dock and then as a men’s wear clerk at K. Wolens where he most likely developed his meticulous sense of style, learned the valuable lesson and began to employ the mindset that “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” He began his transportation career at Southwest Transportation then Yellow Freight. Always good with people and finance, he went from dock to sales to middle management. To say Jimmy was a “people person” is an understatement. He flourished happily in sales and the company recognized his many talents resulting in a transfer to DeSoto. Another transfer returned him to his beloved hometown of Corsicana to become a terminal manager and was always active in the community. He attended Faith Lutheran Church and chaired the building committee for their new church building which he was proud to see through to completion. Due to health issues from an early age, Jimmy was medically required to retire at age 55 and relocated to Hubbard, TX at that time.
Jimmy will be remembered as one who could bring people together. Before retirement he helped his dear friend, Lynn Sanders, with the Class of 1965 reunion planning. Later it fell to him to carry the lead when the Class lost Lynn. Retirement allowed him to throw himself, heart and soul, into that role. It gave him great joy and he was very successful at finding and encouraging folks to reconnect for over 30 years. He will be greatly missed.
Jimmy loved his family, his friends, the Corsicana High School Class of 1965 (Go Tigers!), football, baseball and sports of every kind. He loved to travel and enjoyed any spirited competition, including Black Jack, board games and even game shows. He collected and cherished his friends as if they were rare and precious coins. But the greatest love he had was for the Lord.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Betty Jo, brother Gary, brother Bobby, brother Alvie, sister Judy Sykes and most recently his cousin Linda Wigley Pickle and nephew Jeffrey Whistler, as well as numerous aunts and uncles he was close to and his faithful four legged buddy, Scooter Whistler.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Mary Deisher Whistler, his daughter Shannon Foster Couch, his stepchildren Joseph Howington and Gina Howington-Mantsch, his step grandson Stephen Mantsch, his granddaughter Samantha Couch Wright and grandson Tyler Wright and their sons Grayson Knox Wright and Cameron Hayes Wright, and his sister Peggy Brown. Also surviving are his sisters in-law Betty and Willie; his brothers in-law Troy Sykes and Robert (Bob) Deisher; his former wife Sina Hodde Whistler, her sister and brother in-law Charlene and Thomas Walker; cousin Shirley Wigley Powell and many other cousins, nieces and nephews and special family members, including sweet little Ginger Snap Whistler.
Jimmy’s legacy is his love of God, his family, his friends and his fellow man. This he leaves to his great grandsons Grayson Knox Wright and Cameron Hayes Wright, may they follow in his footsteps as it is written in scripture Galatians 6:7-10 .
A Celebration of Life will be held toward the end of September, date, time and location to be announced closer to that time. Jimmy wished to have his family and friends gather, not to mourn but first to Honor God for giving him life and then for fellowship with one another to celebrate their presence in his life and his in theirs, sharing together fond memories and stories in remembrance of him and the many ways and times they were together in the circle of his life. https://give.classy.org/jimmywhistler

The family wishes to thank Jimmy’s many doctors, in particular: Dr. Bruce Kinney, Well Med at Redbird; Dr. David Levine, Dr. Jay Wright and staff of Methodist Dallas Cardiovascular Consultants for their many years of deep concern and caring dedication; the ER Dept., Dr. Khan & Nephrology Team, Dr. Christine Liu, the Nutrition Team and the 12th Floor Nurses and Techs at UTSW Clements University Hospital in Dallas for their compassion and care during Jimmy’s short stay just prior to his passing.
The family also thanks all of our family and steadfast friends for their support and prayers over the years and especially this past very difficult year with special mention of Marvin and Kathryn Matthys, Jim and Sue Hagle, Curtis and Kay Ivie, Martha Long Tally, Cassie Kloecker Stein, Rosemary Dosser Ross, Rhey and Marsha Nolan, Scott and Jodi Tekell, Jerry Sheets, Pat and Richard Kelly, Hollis Owens and Troy Sykes.
It is time to rest, be at peace. You carry our love and respect with you.
You are already deeply missed. We will reunite with you again.

Nedom Conway Muns - May 11, 1939 - August 06, 2023

Departed: 08/06/2023 (Corsicana)
Obituary Preview: Dr. Nedom Conway Muns, III, 84, of Huntsville, Texas passed from his earthly body into an eternal life in heaven on August 6, 2023. Nedom was born to Nedom Conway Jr. and Lillian Aleen Muns on May 11, 1939, in Corsicana, Texas.
Nedom’s life abruptly changed when at the age of 9, he learned of the sudden death of his father. He went on to become a distinguished professor, motivational speaker, husband, and father. This moment was the beginning of his fulfilling his destiny.
Nedom graduated from Corsicana High School, where he played baseball, that started in the sandlots around Navarro County. He went on to receive a full scholarship to play baseball at Navarro Junior College. Baseball allowed him to continue his education, again receiving a full athletic scholarship to Abilene Christian University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. While teaching in Pasadena, Texas he earned his master’s degree from Sam Houston State University. He earned his doctorate from the University of North Texas. From a long teaching career that began in 1962 and spanned 57 years, Dr. Muns served on the faculty in numerous positions at Pasadena High School, University of North Texas, Northwestern State University and Sam Houston State University. He was also a motivational speaker, providing uplifting messages for several major corporations. Dr. Muns received an appointment from President Ronald Reagan to serve as National Education Coordinator on the National Board of Cosmetology to help enact several rules that cosmetologists and cosmetology schools still abide by today. Governor George W. Bush appointed him to serve on the Texas State Board of Cosmetology in a similar role.
He traveled extensively both nationally and internationally with these commissions, making many lifetime friendships and creating numerous memories with his family. He also enjoyed helping many people in his career with A.L Williams, a financial services company, which is now Primerica. During his time with them, he was named the National Salesman of the Year which was unheard of for a part-time salesman. He loved being a son of Corsicana and was thrilled when Navarro College recognized him as one of their distinguished alumni in 1989. While pursuing these educational and career accomplishments, he also found love with Sandra Lee Small, whom he married in 1962. They had three precious daughters.
Nedom will be remembered for his love of teaching and dedication to his students, many of whom became lifelong friends. He will always be remembered by his students for his “Munsology 101”. These were Nedom’s special nuggets of wisdom for his students to help them get through life. They include: 1) Those who watch the clock will always be one of the hands, 2) The only true rule in life is there is always an exception to the rule, 3) A rut is a grave with the ends kicked out, 4) If you’re the second dog in a sled race, the view never changes, 5) As you travel down the highway of life and focus on your goal, keep your eyes on the do-nut and not on the hole, 6) Set yourself on fire, and others will come to watch you burn, 7) Live to work-not work to live, 8) Plan your work, work your plan, and your plan will work, 9) It is your attitude not your aptitude that determines your altitude and finally, 10) Always be careful, otherwise you could get Pungidias of the gizzard. He believed a great teacher is always a little bit crazy.
His legacy includes his crazy ties, his love of old cars and his many baseball achievements including several back-to-back no hitters, as well as playing in the Junior College World Series. He loved enjoying a good meal with his friends and family. His memory will live on in the lives of everyone he touched.
Nedom was preceded in death by his father, mother and numerous aunts and uncles who were close to him. He was also preceded in death by his in-laws Bob and Helen Small, who loved him as their own son. Nedom is survived by his daughters Amanda Kay Muns (Kevin) Brown, Mary Allene Muns (Rob) Hill, and Kelly LeeAn Muns. Also surviving him is his only sister Jeanice “Bunny” Muns (Keith) Golden and his nephew Todd Miller, as well as great niece Jessica LaFlamme, and great nephew, John Miller and a great-great nephew, Bruce LaFlamme, and other special family members. He leaves a legacy of love and family to his only grandson James Michael Muns Hill, whom he adored, and that adoration was multiplied and returned.
Nedom loved his family, his friends, his students, the Corsicana High School Class of 1957 (Go Tigers!), baseball, wrestling, golf, old westerns, Billy the Kid and most of all, the Lord.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are best friends, Jimmy Noble and Dr. Ronnie Deskin. Additional honorary pallbearers are precious family members Kevin Brown, Rob Hill, Michael Hill and Todd Miller.
Rest in peace Daddy. You lived a good life and were loved deeply. We will see you again on the other side.
Visitation will be held at Huntsville Church of Christ on Monday August 14, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with the funeral starting at 11:00 am. He will then travel into “God’s Country” and stop at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana where a funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm. He was always a true and loyal friend to many.
James was an avid deer hunter; he secured a deer lease after he returned from the service and hunted each consecutive year until the age of 99. Opening day was always an exciting, anticipated time for him, although the company of his long-time hunting friends was equally enjoyable.

How do I ensure accuracy when writing an obituary?

How do I preserve an online obituary for future generations?

You can save a copy of the online obituary as a PDF or screenshot it for posterity. Additionally, consider printing out physical copies for family members or creating a scrapbook with memorabilia.

Are there any specific guidelines for writing an obituary for someone who was young or died unexpectedly?
