Dorothy Jean Hartman - Unknown - December 24, 2023

Departed: 12/24/2023 (Sanford)
Obituary Preview: Dorothy Jean Hartman age 90, of Deltona, Florida, passed away on December 24, 2023. She was born April 27, 1933 in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of the late John Lee and Myrtle Lucille (Throckmorton) McPhail. Along with her parents she was predeceased by her beloved spouse Bruce Weldon Hartman August 17, 2023, and one sister Lois Ingram. Dorothy is survived by her children Michael (Diane) Hartman, Daniel (Cindy) Hartman, Joel (Gwen) Hartman, Lowell Hartman, and Linda (John) Kislewski, and one brother Jonathan McPhail. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. From an early childhood, our mother, Dorothy Jean Hartman, was taught the Word of God and of His great love. She recognized that she was a sinner saved by grace, and accepted Jesus’s death on the cross as payment for her sin at an early age. In her early teens she recommitted her life to the Lord at a Billy Graham crusade. She had a simple but profound love for Jesus. As a teenager, she taught Sunday school and encouraged the younger girls to read God's Word and memorize scripture. One of those younger girls from that time wrote these words about her. “Your mom, Dorothy, is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She may have naturally been that way— but I suspect it was because she walked with the Lord, and the fruit of the Spirit was that of joy to those around her.” When she was 16, her family went to Japan as missionaries. Her father never grasped the language, but Dorothy did, and she became his translator as he preached the gospel. Upon returning from Japan, she met and married her one and only sweetheart, Bruce Hartman. Together they served their Lord for the next 40 years in Brazil, along with raising 5 children. They were married for 66 years. Their children do rise up and call them Blessed! Dorothy is known for her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ, and her love for her family. She was a prayer warrior for so many, and up until her last breath, she wanted to know how God was working things out in her children and grandchildren’s lives. So much more could be written about her life, but one thing is for sure, she was welcomed into Heaven with the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant!” She is face to face with her Savior, Jesus Christ. Oh what eternal, Heavenly Bliss is hers! We love you, mom! Services are being held privately.

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, an obituary is written by the family of the deceased or a close friend. Funeral homes or mortuaries may also offer assistance in writing an obituary as part of their services.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral services, memorial donations, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a short paragraph.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

Check with the specific publication or platform for their submission guidelines. Some may accept submissions online, while others may require email or phone submissions. Be sure to follow their formatting and content guidelines carefully.
