Departed: 04/10/2022 (Macomb)
Obituary Preview: Lennis “Lennie” Burdette Swedell, age 83, of Adair, Illinois passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022, at his home.      He was born on October 19, 1938, in Macomb, Illinois, to Burdette Holmes and Margaret Louise (Skien) Swedell. He married Bonnie VenHuizen on June 27, 1965 in Albany, Illinois. She survives.     He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Doris Battin; and brother-in-law Louis Battin.      He is survived by his wife Bonnie Swedell, two sons David Swedell of Adair and Steve and his wife Ashley Swedell of Macomb; one granddaughter Audrey Swedell of Macomb; one grandson Blaine Swedell of Macomb; one brother-in-law Al Venhuizen of Mesa AZ; one sister-in-law Chris Wilson of Albany IL; two nieces Susan (John) Gamage of Macomb and Ellen (Tim) Pederson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one nephew Brian (Viola) Battin of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; two great-nieces Jennifer (Mitch) Houch of Macomb and Sarah (Scott) Agee of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and one great-nephew Eric Gamage of Glendale, Arizona.     Lennie was a graduate of Macomb High School in 1956. Upon graduating high school, he began working on his family farm with his dad. He served in the Army from 1961 to 1963 and was stationed in France and Germany. The two most important things in Lennie’s life were family and farming, and lucky enough for him they went hand in hand. He farmed with his father, two sons, and his grandson over the course of his life. He lived on the farm his whole life, except for when he was serving his country. His favorite thing to do on the farm was run the combine and to go on parts runs. Other things that Lennie enjoyed were going out to get coffee in the morning (especially at the Adair Cafe), reading, eating sweets and other good food, and defending the Constitution, which was an interest he shared with his granddaughter. Lennie was also a volunteer firefighter for New Salem township in Adair and on the board for Pennington Point cemetery. He also enjoyed racing go-karts and watching races. He never got worked up over the material things in life and knew what was truly important. Let Lennie serve as an example that a simple life is a great life. Private graveside services will be held for the family at a later date.  Memorials can be made to New Salem Fire and Rescue or Pennington Point Cemetery.
