Fred was born on the 25th of November 1940 in Broadview, Saskatchewan. He passed away in the early morning of April 29th, 2024, in Trail, BC after a long and complicated series of health issues. Regardless of what the hurdle was, he was a good, spirited fighter and a source of strength right up to the end of his life.
He was predeceased by parents, Frederick and Evelyn Rody, sister Marjorie (nee Rody) Zamonsky, brother Wayne Rody and granddaughter, Joanne Rody.
Fred is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Jo Anne (nee Nicol) Rody and children; Shane (Colleen) Rody, Karen Rody, Dorothy Rody, Claudette (and family) Rody, Mayrita (Bob) Castle, Amy Dawn (Scott) McKay & fishing buddy nephew, Shawn (Thea) Mihalus. He leaves his much-loved brood of grandchildren: Charismah Rody, Tyrone Rody, Tia & Taneesha Cheesequay, Elizabeth (Jerry) & Danny Castle, River McKay & next generation fishers Tessa, Gemma & Lila Mihalus. Uncle Freddie will also be deeply missed by a number of nieces and nephews across the country as well as his remaining sibling Morley (Cathy) Rody.
Always counted on to be the life of the party, a cracker of bad jokes… his loud voice booming above all others… Fred was a union guy who was always ready to stand up for what he believed in. A lover of reading, golfing, pool, darts, baseball and football, his greatest times were spent offshore or in a canoe with a fishing-rod in hand.
Thank you to the staff of Poplar Ridge for their long-term care, but especially Dr. Michael Scully for his ongoing patience, compassion and concern.

Departed: 04/29/2024 (Trail)
Obituary Preview: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Antonio DePellegrin (Dad to us).
Bob was born in Trail on March 19, 1937, and lived there his entire life. The youngest of four children, Bob lived in West Trail during his early years.
In 1965 Bob married the love of his life, Lydia. A few years later the couple moved to the neighborhood of Glenmerry, living in the same house for 56 years.
Always a hard worker, Bob found employment with Cominco (Teck Resources). Dad worked at Cominco for 38 years before retiring at 55 years of age, in 1992.
In retirement, Dad always had a home improvement or maintenance project to complete. Dad enjoyed cross country skiing, camping, photography, cooking, reading history books, and biking. Being very social and outgoing by nature, Dad enjoyed visiting his relatives and friends. Bob looked forward to seeing his “coffee buddies” most mornings, to catchup and discuss current events. Dad was also a member of the Trail Legion (Branch 11) and an avid Trail Smoke Eaters fan.
Dad’s lifelong passion was fishing, and many fish in the Columbia River are breathing a sigh of relief now that Dad is gone.
As Dad’s health was declining, his devoted wife of 59 years stepped up and cared for him at home. In his last few days Mom and Dad continued to display their love devotion to each other, which they maintained throughout their marriage.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bob’s thoughtful and caring nature, his humor, and love will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bob was the last of the DePellegrin family to pass. Dad is reunited with his father Giovanni; mother Maria; brother Angelo (Jean); and sisters Gina (Eligio) and Olympia (Peter) and his granddaughter Sarah.
Bob is survived by wife Lydia; children Dean and Laurie; daughter-in-law Twyla, as well as grandchildren Ryan, Amy and Emily.
Bob passed away peacefully on April 29th surrounded by his family who would like to thank Dr. Andrew Hamilton and Social Worker, Jim Maniago, together with the nursing staff at Kootenay Boundary Hospital for their compassion and care of Bob.
A private gathering of family will take place at a later date as requested by Bob. Sarah Stevens of Clark’s Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Health Foundation, 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca

Elizabeth Margaret Vanelli - Unknown - April 02, 2024

Departed: 04/02/2024 (Trail)
Obituary Preview: Elizabeth (Betty) Margaret Vanelli (née Clarke), beloved wife, mother and nana, dedicated teacher, party hostess and community organizer, passed away on April 2, 2024, at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital. She was days shy of her 91st birthday.
Born in Trail on April 21, 1933, to James and Violet Clarke, Betty’s family moved back to England for a few years before her father decided to return to Canada in 1938 due to storm clouds over Europe. She enjoyed a fun, if somewhat mischievous, upbringing in East Trail, along with her older brother Reginald. They were a tight-knit family, with Betty active in Girl Guides, Sunday School and teen dances.
After graduating high school, Betty attended Senior Matric and went on to Normal School in Victoria to earn her teacher’s certificate. During this time, she met Elsio, her life partner, and they married in 1954. Together for 64 years, they raised their children Lorne, Dale and Carol Ann. Living in the Gyro Park neighbourhood, much fun and good laughs were shared with the Nelson, Haas, LeFort, Gariepy, Mondin, Roblin and Pasqualotto families to name a few. Betty loved to entertain, and cooking meals for large gatherings of family and friends was her passion.
She started her teaching career at the Tadanac elementary school until her marriage and children. She then taught as a substitute teacher in the Trail public school system for many years, causing her son Dale profound embarrassment by subbing in his class too. Betty also served as a full-time teacher at St. Michael's School for many years.
An avid seamstress and fashion plate, Betty made many of her dresses for formals at the Colombo and Italiano Canadese lodges. She gave hand-me-downs new meaning as she repurposed almost every article of clothing her kids had for the next one in line and created special outfits for every major occasion in their lives. She was a worldclass knitter, as her handiwork received compliments from across Canada, Europe, New Zealand and Australia as well as other locales where knitting is revered as a high art.
Betty was an inaugural board member of the Trail Home Support organization for care of seniors in their homes. As an avid lover of the water, Betty greatly helped spearhead the realization of the Trail Aquatic Centre after years of organizing and lobbying. Her love of physical fitness, and her love of cooking marvelous, nutritional food, helped her live for over 90 years.
Nana’s greatest joy in her later years was caring for, and spending time, with her Sweetheart, her granddaughter Grace. Many happy days were spent at outings at Gyro Park and in play groups, as well as baking cookies and making pasta and pizza. She delighted in watching Grace move on to university to start a career in fashion.
Betty is survived by her sons Lorne and Dale, daughter Carol Ann and husband Rob Worosz, granddaughter Grace, cousins Ron and Audrey Akroyd, Lynne and Walter Worosz, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Elsio, her parents and brother, and in-laws Agnesse and Guido Vannelli.
A service will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church (1347 Pine Ave.) on Thursday, May 2, at 1 pm, officiated by Martha Fish, Priest. A tea will follow in the Church reception hall. Gwen Ziprick of Clark’s Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Health Foundation (Greatest Need) at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca
And lastly, Mum had a ritual with family when saying goodbye at her door. So, we give you a hug, blow you a kiss and say, “See you soon” – and from Grace, “See you soonday, Nana”. We love you, Mum.

Allan was born on March 11, 1957 and passed away peacefully at home with his loving family by his side on March 21, 2024. Allan was predeceased by his mother Irene Martin, father “Spud” Martin, brother David Martin, father-in-law Les Schultz, 'GG' Edie Brown and many aunts and uncles.
Al fought courageously against cancer with such hope, determination and the best sense of humor throughout the past 6 months. Al's inspiration and will to stay here with us through it all will be forever engrained in us.
Allan will be forever missed by his wife and best friend Melissa Martin and the light of his life and little girl Calli Martin. Also left to mourn the loss of Allan are his sister Arlene (Dave), brother Terry (Patti), sister-in-law Myrna, brother-in-law Stephen, mother-in-law Bonnie, father-in-law Kevin, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
All those that knew Al knew of his quiet nature, gentle soul and quick wit. He had the greatest sense of humor and most amazing laugh that was nothing short of contagious. Al worked so hard for his family and protected and loved them fiercely. He gave them the greatest life and the best hugs you could ever imagine.
Allan grew up in Rossland, spent many years living with his parents, then met Melissa, the love of his life. They bought their home together in Trail and then 16 years ago they were thrilled to welcome their daughter Calli into their world, and have cherished her each and every day since.
Al loved watching Nascar races and wrestling while cuddled up with his little buddy, DiVito. He loved summer drives with his girls, and camping at Christina Lake. Al took pride in his vehicles and enjoyed keeping them pristine. Al loved great food and would give anything a try at least once, he loved grilling on the BBQ and just simply enjoyed relaxing out in the yard and being home with his family.
Melissa, Calli and Allan were Smoke Eater fans and hardly missed a game. Al also enjoyed an occasional golf game. One thing Allan looked forward to each year was hunting with his brother Terry and brother-in-law Dave. Seemed like the deer were safe when they were out hunting, as their outings were often referred to as a nice walk in the forest with a loaded firearm.
Melissa would like to extend a special thank-you to Allan’s homecare team that supported her to keep Allan at home throughout his final months. Melissa would also like to thank the staff and Physicians on the 3rd floor Medical Unit and Oncology department at KBRH. Melissa and Calli especially want to thank their Mom/Grammie for welcoming them all with loving arms to stay at her home where Al could be comfortably cared for and they could all be together.
There will be no service at Allan’s request. Andreas Schmitz of Clark’s Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the KBRH Health Foundation (Oncology Department) at 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC V1R 4M1 or online at www.kbrhhealthfoundation.ca
We toast to you babe, with our raised shots of your favorite fireball, to the most wonderful man and the great love you left us with. Our memories we forever cherish, until we see you again.

She is predeceased by her husband Peter, her parents Albert and Nellie, her brother Robert, and many beloved brothers and sisters-in-law.
Lydia and Peter embarked on a new chapter when they immigrated to Canada in 1965 with their four children. Settling in Warfield, BC, they enjoyed gardening, being close to nature and playing in their big yard with her many grandchildren and family dogs. For many years, Lydia worked at McLeod's Hardware store, where her friendly demeanor and unwavering work ethic left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Later, Lydia transitioned to manage the clothing store Mariposa, where her innate sense of style and flair for fashion shone brightly.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Lydia was a passionate sports enthusiast, particularly fond of cheering on the Vancouver Canucks, the Toronto Blue Jays and watching PGA golf tournaments. In her retirement years, Lydia's daily walks with Maureen became a cherished ritual, a time to share each other's company. She also enjoyed her trips back to England where she would visit family and friends, most especially her sister-in-law Ede.
In recent years, Lydia faced mobility challenges, but instead of letting her limitations hold her back, Lydia enthusiastically pursued new hobbies, finding joy in cooking and baking. She even joined a social media group to learn new ways of cooking and to try out new recipes. Those close to her were lucky enough to receive her muffins as treats.
Despite her petite stature, Lydia radiated strength and tenacity, refusing to let anything stand in the way of her goals. Her determination served as a beacon of inspiration to all who knew her, a testament to the power of unwavering perseverance and boundless resilience.
Lydia is survived by her children: Tricia (Rick), Martin (Christine), Julie, and Neil; her grandchildren: Drew, Deven, Ashley (Jay), Cailen (Lyndon), and Brianna (Briggs); and numerous nieces and nephews. Sadly, she was widowed at the age of 23, and left to raise two daughters on her own, which she did with tremendous courage and determination. Charlotte started her career as a secretary at the Gaum Clinic in Sydney, where she quickly rose to the position of Office Manager. After 20 years she decided to retire and fill her time with volunteer work for various organizations in the community. One such position at the Red Cross led to a new job offer, where she was once again promoted to Office Manager. At the urging of her family, Charlotte moved to Rossland, BC to be closer to her grandchildren. For the next 22 years she lived in Rossland and Trail, helping to launch the family business, and spending as much time as possible with the grandchildren in Rossland and Nanaimo.
Charlotte loved to paint, read, and spend time at the lake with the family. She also volunteered for many local causes. She was funny, kind and deeply caring of everyone she met. Most of all she loved her family with all her heart and was greatly loved in return. Her love was dependable, unfailing, and the cornerstone of our lives.

The primary purpose of an obituary is to inform others of a person's passing, providing essential details such as the funeral or memorial service arrangements. It also serves as a tribute to the deceased, celebrating their life and accomplishments.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, a family member or close friend writes the obituary, although it can also be written by a funeral home or other professionals. The writer should be someone who knew the deceased well and can provide an accurate and meaningful account of their life.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include funeral or memorial service details and any charitable donations in lieu of flowers.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and personal preference. Generally, it should be concise yet informative, ranging from 100 to 500 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary, on the other hand, provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

Can I write my own obituary?

What is the best way to submit an obituary?

Check with the publication or platform where you want to publish the obituary for their specific submission guidelines. Many funeral homes also offer assistance with writing and submitting obituaries.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The publication timeline varies depending on the platform or newspaper. Online obituaries may be published immediately, while print publications may take several days or weeks to appear.

What if I want to keep my loved one's obituary private?

If you prefer not to publicly announce your loved one's passing, you can opt for a private or limited-circulation obituary. This might be shared only with close friends and family or posted on a private online memorial page.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

How do I ensure accuracy when writing an obituary?

What if I want to create a digital memorial page in addition to publishing an obituary?

This is a wonderful idea! Digital memorial pages can serve as a permanent online tribute where friends and family can share memories, photos, and condolences. Many online platforms offer tools for creating these types of pages.]
