Departed: 02/17/2022 (Wake Forest)
Obituary Preview: Craig Allan Pelletier, 46, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, was truly one of the good ones.  A remarkable son, father, husband, brother, and friend who passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 17th, 2022.  Craig was born in Bay City, Michigan on October 21, 1975 and graduated from Michigan Tech University with an electrical engineering degree.  He relocated to North Carolina for a job with Alcatel (currently Nokia), the company he continued to work for the past 22 years.

His illness took his life too soon but it never took his sense of humor, unwavering selflessness, or heart of gold.
Craig Pelletier was the true standard of grace and integrity and he will be missed beyond words.

Daniel Robert Zahnow - April 21, 1951 - February 13, 2022

Departed: 02/13/2022 (Wake Forest)
Obituary Preview: Dan Zahnow was born and raised in Butler, WI. He moved several times before landing in North Carolina. After meeting his future wife Carolyn, he settled into southern life in north Raleigh. The two dated for five years until he asked her to marry him on Christmas Day, 1992.
They married in June 1997. Dan became the stepfather to Carolyn’s son, Cameron Stephenson. That’s quite a commitment for a man who never had children. They moved to the Dallas area shortly after their marriage due to work commitments. They lived there for seven years, losing Cameron to suicide in 2005. They returned to the Raleigh area and built a house in Youngsville. They continued to live there with Dan enjoying his dream shop built on the property.
Dan was a “motorhead”, no doubt about that. He loved to enhance, modify, and drive the wheels off of cars. He loved street rods and big engine muscle cars. He has a timeline of his life and all the cars he’s owned over the years. There are 41 (probably more) cars and trucks in his lifetime. Dan and Carolyn (and Cameron when he was younger) would attend car shows as well as show his current car at national car shows. Dan also loved the big car auctions and in recent years bought and sold cars in Florida. But his dream car was a Bentley. Carolyn did not want to have to mortgage the house in order for him to own a Bentley. She prays that he gets to drive a Bentley in heaven or at least in his next life!
Dan was an electrical engineer by trade. He worked for many large corporations designing computer monitors. He retired when he turned 67 so he could “play” in his garage/shop on a regular basis. That’s where he was the happiest.
In the year of COVID-19 (2020), Dan was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a vicious form of the disease. Not being able to see a doctor for several months no doubt set him back. When he was able to see his doctor, the diagnosis was a shock for Carolyn and Dan.
He endured many rounds of chemo (oral and intravenous) and treatments from the wonderful oncology staff at Duke University Hospital in Durham. Unfortunately, Dan’s leukemia was stronger than all the meds and treatments they provided him.
Dan is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carolyn, his older brothers Ken (wife Joan) and their children Julie and Tim, Dick (wife Laverne) and their children Amy and Lori, all residing in Wisconsin; sisters-in-law Kristie Rhodes and her husband, Kelly; Angela Benka and Joe, brother-in-law Tony Sweeney. Preceding Dan in death were his parents Edith and Walter Zahnow of Butler, WI; stepson Jace Cameron Stephenson; and sister-in-law Jacque Sweeney Horner.
Carolyn sends her gratitude to the many friends and family who supported them on this journey called Cancer.

The eldest of four children, Sarah was born in Mars Hill, NC, where she spent her youth on her family’s dairy farm.
With a great mind and tenacious determination, she graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1953 with a master’s degree in mathematics.  In 1970, her love for math brought her to Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, NC, where she steadfastly taught for 20 years.  Upon her retirement in 1990, the mountains beckoned, and she returned to her childhood home in Mars Hill.  In 2012, Sarah relocated to Raleigh to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

Richard George Koch - May 03, 1945 - January 18, 2022

Departed: 01/18/2022 (Wake Forest)
Obituary Preview: Richard George Koch, 76, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 18, at his home. He was born in Cambria County, New York to the late Adam Koch and Lillian Crislip Koch.
Dick made a difference in many lives as a Financial Planner for over 35 years. He often told me he would give advice to his clients based on what he would do for his own family. That is truly what he did. Dick would do anything possible to help a friend, which may explain why so many mourn his loss.
He loved his family without reservation or expectation. He added something special to every day of our 19-year marriage which I will always treasure and be grateful for.
He was my best friend and partner in everything, and I loved him so very much.  He will be sorely missed forever.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date.

Marc Aaron Gura - March 07, 1970 - December 29, 2021

Departed: 12/29/2021 (Wake Forest)
Obituary Preview: “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Psalm 30:4
Marc Aaron Gura was welcomed into the joy of heaven in the early morning hours of December 29, 2021.
Born on March 7, 1970, Marc was raised as the youngest of three children in Braddock Hills, PA, by his parents Lillian Gura (Wargo) and William Peter Gura. He was a member of the inaugural graduating class at Woodland Hills High School where he proudly performed as the school’s very first wolverine mascot. After graduating, Marc attended the University of South Carolina at Coastal Carolina College, where he brought to life the school’s Chanticleer mascot, earning numerous accolades, including being named one of the Top 20 Mascots in 1991 by the Universal Cheerleading Association. In recognition of his many contributions to Coastal Carolina sports, a scholarship has been established in his honor, the Marc Gura Coastal Carolina University Spirit Scholarship, which will benefit students who demonstrate the joyous school spirit for which Marc was so well-known.
After graduating from Coastal Carolina, Mark enjoyed a 27-year marketing career in the utilities and smart grid industry. He was widely recognized for his abilities in the areas of design, education, and trade show marketing, as well as his hard work, forward-thinking, and a people-first approach to all his contributions. Marc adored musicals, loved all things car/automobile-related, and enjoyed listening to and participating in choral singing. He was a strong supporter of small businesses and worked closely with a number of small business owners as a freelance designer/marketer. In his free time, Marc volunteered with Boy Scout Troop #500 and Venturing Crew 500. The Gura family attends Maple Springs Baptist Church in Louisburg, NC.
After being diagnosed with a Glioblastoma brain tumor in June of 2020, Marc faced one of his greatest obstacles with strong faith, a positive attitude, and his trademark joyous spirit. While recovering from brain surgery, Marc found a new purpose by writing and designing a children’s book entitled “Thoughtful’s Unfriendly Guest Must Go.” The book shares a child’s journey from discovery to the removal of a brain tumor. Marc’s intention is for proceeds from the sale of the book to be donated to pediatric brain tumor research.
Marc’s greatest joy in life was the family that he and his wife Janet (Nagel) built in their 23 years of marriage. He dearly loved and was immensely proud of his children, Jack and Carolyn. Marc leaves behind, brothers-in-law, Robert, Kenneth and Bill(Lois) Nagel; friends, Norm Solomon (Terri), Steve Dombrowski (Mary Alice), Marty Dombrowski (Lynne), Annie Johnson (Chris) and Don Emery and his beloved “cuz”, Jennifer Wasco (Michael). Marc is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and William. Marc will be remembered by everyone who knew him as a joyous, spirit-filled, motivational, and loving father, husband, and friend.
Friends may visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening January 3, 2022 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home and also 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at Wake Forest United Methodist Church, 905 South Main Street, Wake Forest followed by the funeral service at 3:00 p.m.

Departed: 12/25/2021 (Wake Forest)
Obituary Preview: John “Jay” Mesko was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather.  He left this world unexpectedly on Christmas Day, 2021.  He was born in Prince William County, Virginia to the late John Mesko and Loretta Lynch Mesko.  Growing up in a military family, he moved many times and was a true patriot with an immense love for his country.
Anyone who knew him could tell you that he had a special glow about him in the presence of children.  He was frequently just a “big kid” himself which lead him to a 40-year career as both an elementary and middle school teacher at Fraser Public Schools in Michigan.  During that time, he obtained his Master's Degree and also ran his own business in the summers called Playground Games.
He married Patricia “Pat” McDonald Mesko almost half a century ago.  For over 48 years, he was a loving husband who still adored her.  They enjoyed traveling together, camping trips, gardening, and raising their three children, which along with his now eight grandchildren, were the pride and joy of Jay’s life.
Jay was a man full of life.  He was selfless in every way, kind to every person he ever met, and filled a room with his radiance.  His laughter was contagious and this world will truly be a little dimmer without him.
Mr. Mesko is survived by his wife, Patricia “Pat” McDonald Mesko; children, Amy Pelletier & husband Craig of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Lt. Col. Matthew Mesko & wife Caroline of Germany and Jeffrey Mesko & wife Lisa of Manchester, Michigan; grandchildren, Ava, Evelyn, & Violet Pelletier, Asher, Benjamin, & Jude Mesko and Franklin & Rutherford Mesko; siblings, Eric Mesko of Ferndale, MI, Emil Mesko & wife Andrea of Paso Robles, CA and Frank Mesko & wife Evelyn of San Antonio TX; sister-in-law, Paula Gilbert of Austin, TX; extended family and friends. Margaret Ellen Moore - February 20, 1937 - December 09, 2021

Departed: 12/09/2021 (Wake Forest)
Obituary Preview: Margaret Ellen Moore, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend has entered the life eternal promised by her Lord and Savior. Her earthly being passed away early Thursday morning on December 9, 2021, in Rolesville, NC at the age of 84 after several years living with dementia.
Margaret was born on February 20, 1937, in Corvallis Oregon. Margaret, known as Peg to family and friends, graduated from Elkton High School in Elkton, OR in 1955 and received her BS in Education from Oregon College of Education in 1959. She married the late Reuben (Ben) Moore on August 22, 1959, and they lived in Oregon, Alaska, and California, before settling in Riverview, MI in 1968. While living in Michigan, Peg was active at First Presbyterian Church of Trenton, served the City of Riverview as a commissioner, and was a Girl Scout leader. In her life, she held several jobs, but Peg was particularly proud of a couple of unique jobs she had as a young adult: telephone operator and fire lookout. Early in her marriage, Peg taught elementary school which helped Ben finish college. She took several years off to raise her three children but later worked as a substitute teacher primarily in special education. She also sold Avon for several years, but since she sold primarily to family and friends at her cost, she never made any money!
Peg was a very nurturing, caring person and was the caregiver for her husband during his illness, as well as for several friends. She was a great, hands-on mother and thoroughly enjoyed being a grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and loved watching them on the soccer field, making pizzelles with them, or simply spending time with them. She loved a bargain and never bought anything at full price. It was always exciting to open her care packages because they were filled with random, but always thoughtful gifts. Peg loved animals. She always had a pet cat and eventually became a dog person when she got a Jack Russel puppy. Quite a menagerie of other animals passed through her home including ducks, rabbits, gerbils, mice, quails, a parakeet, and a guinea pig.
In her free time, Peg enjoyed baking, reading, going to garage sales, gardening, and sewing (she made great Halloween costumes!). Every summer she looked forward to driving from Michigan to the west coast with her family, and later with her dog Megan, to visit extended family in Oregon and California. Even though she spent most of her life living in Michigan, she always considered herself an Oregonian.
Peg was a beautiful and loving woman who didn’t take life too seriously. She never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with just about anyone. All who loved her dearly will never forget her smile, tenacity, wit, and undying love for them.
Margaret is predeceased by her husband, Reuben Moore; her parents, Louis and Frances Price; her birth mother, Mamie Caviness; and half-sister, Sandra Sanders. Peg is survived by her three children: Janice (Randy) Chatfield of Philomath, OR; Elizabeth (Andres) Esguerra of Wake Forest, NC; and Michael Moore of Philomath, OR. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren: Paige (Colden) Beert, Benjamin Chatfield, Adam Esguerra, Andrew Chatfield, Josephine Moore, and Danielle Moore. In addition, she is survived by her three sisters: Joan Larson, Ruth (George) Stellmon, and Penny Lucas; and several nieces and nephews.
