Joan Eileen Rosenow - December 05, 1936 - April 14, 2024

Departed: 04/14/2024 (West Allis)
Obituary Preview: Rosenow, Joan Eileen
(nee Zillmer) Born December 5, 1936, and passed away on Sunday April 14, 2024. Joan was raised on her family farm in Ridgeville, WI. She went on to marry Duane Rosenow in 1955 and eventually relocated to Milwaukee for better employment opportunities. She is survived by her former husband Duane, 4 children: Steve (Mel), Randy (Penny Sue), Penny (Mike)Scherbarth, and Lynn Susan Fischer; 5 Grandchildren: Karen, Robert, Nicholas Rosenow, Joshua Geier, and Eden (Brett) Wallner; 3 great grandchildren: Mellisa & Caitlin Drevs, Elizabeth Rosenow, Hadley & Everly Wallner, and Carter Daniels. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Lela Zillmer, 2 sisters Ruth and Betty, and 3 brothers Lester, Wayne and Spencer.
Her mother, Lela, passed when she was 11. Her older brothers, Spence and Wayne, were largely responsible for her upbringing from that point forward as her oldest sister Ruth had already started a family of her own. She was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ridgeville, WI.
Joan moved into town (Tomah) with her father and stepmother, Alice, once the family farm was sold to her brother, Wayne.
Joan played the oboe in the Tomah High School band. She was a perfectionist in many ways - her cursive handwriting was always beautiful and perfect. Joan was once an accomplished accordion player, which she enjoyed when she got together with her brother, Spence, who played the guitar.
Joan had been a faithful member of King of Glory Lutheran Church for over 50 years, having worked in the office, sang in the alto section of the choir, and served as a treasurer in the 1980’s.
She worked a number of administrative positions in her life, having retired from College Research Corporation (CORECO) after 32 years where they treated her as family. She loved her boss and coworkers as it was a small intimate group of employees. She previously worked for The Electric Company and Reiman Publishing as the secretary to the owner. We remember her dictating recordings into type for the magazine from her basement office at home. She also was a master of shorthand which helped greatly with her position there.
Joan participated in a number of things for fun: she bowled on a bi-weekly league for many years with the church group, and was in a round robin card club with other Tomah friends who had relocated to Milwaukee. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee and Scrabble, loved watching the Brewers, enjoyed completing the newspaper crossword and other word puzzles (she was always a great reference for answering questions-a walking encyclopedia in many ways), traveled, and spent time with family and friends.
For Joan’s 80th birthday, her family asked people to talk about what they most liked about her or most thought of when they thought of her. Some common answers were her kindness, her caring heart, baking and cooking, generosity, her smile and friendship, and treating others like family. When family members came to visit, she always prepared their favorite meals and provided their favorite beverages; she made you feel very special when you visited. If you knew Joan, you would agree that her family values were second to none and everyone she knew was always considered family in her eyes.
In recent years, she required considerable care due to the stroke she suffered in 2021. All the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital, the Lutheran Home, Harbour Village, and the rehab companies all said the same about her: they looked forward to working with her, she was always so kind and pleasant, she never complained, and they would get excited to see her on their schedules for the day. Indeed, she was always a model patient. Her family is grateful for all the care she received from them.
Visitation to be held on Sunday April 21, 2024 at CHURCH AND CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 7626 W. Greenfield Ave. from 1-3PM with a Funeral Service 3PM. Interment Monday at 12:30, Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah, WI. Lunch immediately following at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1221 La Grange Avenue, Tomah, WI 54660.

Obituary Preview: Please scroll down for English.
Extrañaremos mucho a nuestro querido padre. Acompáñanos durante este tiempo de duelo para recordarlo. Favor de ver la parte superior de esta página para el tiempo y la localidad. Rudy was born on March 12th,1940 and fell asleep in death on February 18th, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Maria Mercedes Santiago and four children: Martha Leticia Mata, Roberto, Jose, and Ricardo Santiago.
Rudy was a loving father and was always interested in his family. He called them regularly to seize the opportunities to spend time with them. He loved listening to music and had a passion for old movies. His favorite song, “De que manera te olvido” (“I could never forget you”) would provoke him in thought and made him emotional as he reminisced upon the passing of his own father. Now, that same song that provoked those thoughts and sentiments in him will provoke us in like manner.
He was proud of his children. He would often speak about them to friends and neighbors. He felt a sense of pride in knowing that he had a hand in raising four responsible adults who loved life, family and the values taught to them by means of bible principals.
