Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries play a significant role in honoring the life of the deceased, providing closure for those grieving, and serving as a historical record of the person's life. They also help inform others about the passing and allow them to pay their respects.

What information is typically included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the deceased person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, achievements, surviving family members, and funeral or memorial service details.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. Funeral homes or online obituary platforms may also offer assistance in writing and publishing the obituary.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's usually between 100-500 words. The goal is to provide a concise yet meaningful summary of the person's life.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or more photos of the deceased. This can help make the obituary more personal and memorable.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?
