Obituary Preview: Marian (Story) McKeown, 75, of Fennville, Michigan passed away Saturday, November 19, 2022 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born August 3, 1947 in Hazard, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Maynard Story and Naomi Spencer.
Marian had a wonderful life with her husband, Kenneth. She enjoyed playing bingo and watching game shows, especially Wheel of Fortune and Storage Wars. Baking for her family and all her grandkids and great-grandkids brought Marian a lot of joy over the years. Her big heart and caring ways are already missed by her family.
Marian was proceeded in death by her parents; two siblings, Lillian and Frank; and her son, Shane Allen.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Kenneth; her three children, Karen Carrizales, Kelly Washegesic, and April Burns; six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Cremation has taken place and in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the family c/o Kenneth McKeown, 1553 64th Street, Fennville, MI 49408.
A memorial service for Marian will be held at the Ganges Baptist Church, located at 6577 122nd Avenue, Fennville, MI. Sunday, November 27, at 11:00 am. Zoom link for the service is available by emailing the church at GangesBaptist@gmail.com. Refreshments will be served in the church fellowship hall following the service.

Obituary Preview: Charles Fredrick Neldon, 88 of Holland, Michigan, passed away Friday, November 11, 2022. Born July 8, 1934 in Crabtree, Arkansas, he was the son of the late William and Mollie (Williams) Neldon and the husband of the late Arlie Ree (Jackson) Neldon. Charles was a charming and extremely funny man who was loved by everyone. He had a great disposition and people just seemed to gravitate to him because he was so much fun to be around. Being an excellent horticulturalist, Charles took great pride in his garden. He also enjoyed fishing whenever given the chance. Spending time with his family meant the most to him. Charles was very family oriented and watching his family grow and enjoy being around each other, made his life truly full. He was a wonderful father, grandpa and great-grandpa and he is greatly missed by all.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Melinda (Dave) McNeal; three sisters; two grandchildren, Janeen (Saudy) Cale and Joe (Hayley) Philippus; and three great grandchildren, Sterling, Cameron and Liv.
Along with his parents, William and Mollie; and his wife of 68 years, Arlie Ree, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Patricia Ann Nichols - October 31, 1942 - November 05, 2022

Obituary Preview: Patricia Ann Nichols, 80, of Pullman, MI passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Douglas Cove. Born October 31, 1942 in Detroit, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Elsie Antoinette (Musgrove) Beamer. On November 29, 1974 Patricia married Douglas Rowland Nichols and they were looking forward to celebrating their forty-eighth anniversary later this month. She was a very loving person and her sensitive nature allowed her to always be the peacemaker of the family. She was a talented painter who specialized in painting ceramics and also an accomplished writer. Patricia was also a very good cook which she enjoyed doing for her family. She loved to laugh and have a good time. Patricia also enjoyed the outdoors. She liked to watch birds and the sunsets. Anytime she could be outside she was happy, whether that was on the beach in the summer, or having picnics in the back of the van in the winter. Patricia will be remembered for her always soft hands and her warm heart.
In addition to her husband, Douglas, she is survived by her children, Dawn Marie (Jim) Putnam, Joseph Carl Letellier, Cory Douglas (Tonya Jo) Nichols and Crystal Ann (Josh) Chavez; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Memorial donations may be made to the family in care of Cory Nichols, 18050 Mt. Zion Road, Galien, MI 49113.

Obituary Preview: Deana Sue Hicks, 63 of Fennville, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022 in Fennville, Michigan. Born March 11, 1959 in Oran, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Carl Dalton and Nelly (Carr) O’Kane and the wife of the late Harold Jay Hicks. The Lord has called Deana up to be reunited with her loving husband of 48 years so he can continue to pick on and harass for forever in eternity. Deana was a devoted member of the Riverside Chapel. She had a strong faith and that faith came in handy while dealing with many health issues over the years and still surviving until this past week. She continually proved the doctors wrong. Even though she fought her health, that didn’t stop her from living a full and wonderful life. Being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Deana loved being around her family and spending time making cherished memories together. She left them a beautiful legacy and showed them that inner strength and determination, along with trust and faith in God, can allow you to overcome many obstacles. They will carry her in their heart in the days and years ahead.
Deana is survived by her family, Jayson (Christine) Hicks and their two children, Katelyn and Jordan Hicks; Clifton Hicks and his two children, Christopher and Makayla Hicks; Danielle Hicks and her daughter, Mya Hicks; her siblings, David (Crystal) Dalton, Stephanie O’Kane and Jeremy O’Kane; her stepfather, Doug O’Kane; and her chosen sister and best friend, Reva Holtsclaw.
Along with her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Hicks; her granddaughter, Myra Hicks; and her brother, Dan Dalton.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fennville United Methodist Church (5849 124th Ave, Fennville, MI 49408) on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 3:00 PM with dinner to follow, Pastors Rick Jones and Robert Lynch officiating. Chappell Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Obituary Preview: Alan Roerig, Sr. of Fennville, Michigan passed away peacefully on November 2, 2022. At his side were his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth “Jill” (Shanahan) and son, Christopher Roerig. Alan was born in Berwyn, Illinois in 1938.
He is survived by his sister, Caryl Levita; his children, Christopher (Monica Polancic) Roerig, Kathaleen (Sean) O’Brien, Timothy (Cynthia) Roerig and Alan (Heather) Roerig; and grandchildren, Jack (Amy), Blake (Bri), Annie (Lou Boschelli) and Evan O’Brien; Maria, Emily, Aaron and Luke Roerig; James (Rosa), Marcus and Douglas Robinson; and great-granddaughter, Sophia. He has many nieces and nephews. Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Gertrude; brother, Phillip; sister, Joan DeRose; his daughter-in-law, Linda (Putnam) Roerig; niece Phyllis Gonzales; and great-nephew, Jonathon Qualtier.
Alan was proud of his service with the 7th U.S. Army stationed in Munich, Germany, as a PFC. This well-loved man spent his working days as a truck driver and retired to spend time on his property. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and taking care of his pond of fish and turtles. He will be missed but his stories will live on in the hearts of all who heard them. Some ears will not know what to do without his wonderous ways of sharing a tale.
The celebration of life mass will be at St. Peter Catholic Church, Douglas, Michigan, on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation is made to The Legacy on the Rock at St. Peter’s Church, Douglas, Michigan.

Obituary Preview: Gary Squire, 81 of Fennville, Michigan, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 at the home he built, surrounded by his family. Gary was an Army Veteran. He owned the Standard Station in Fennville from 1966 to 1979 and then went on to work at Pfizer where he eventually retired from. Gary was an avid outdoorsman who loved to go hunting, fishing, and camping with this family. He loved golfing and bowling and was on many leagues throughout the years where he made numerous good friends and fabulous memories. He also used to race dirt bikes in the mid-60’s to early 70’s. Gary was affectionately known as “Junk” to his family and friends because he enjoyed the challenge of fixing things with items on hand and A LOT of duct tape!
Gary is survived by his brothers, Greg (Val), Bob (Diane), Mike (Elaine); his sisters, Pat (Al) and Mary (Ron); his daughters, Marcia, Angie (Craig), Lisa (Aaron); his grandchildren, Nicole, Cassidy, Megan, Cody, and Samantha; his great-grandchildren, Maisie and Eli. ALL who will miss him greatly.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Marie (Bushee) Squire; his son, John; his father, Roland; his mother, Florence; and his sister, Joan (Bob).

Born December 8, 1950 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late James and Ruth (Hennick) Weaver. John was a strong, funny, and loving family man. In his spare time, he enjoyed flying and cabinet making. John was an extremely smart, level-headed man who accomplished many things in his life, like earning his MBA and PhD in Food Science. To many, John was known as the “Go to Guy.” His departure from this world has left a hole in the hearts of many.
John is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Weaver; his three children, Jaime (Ash) Hays, Lindsay (Geoff) Betts, and Matthew Weaver; his younger brother, Gary Weaver; and his two adoring grandchildren, Amelia Betts, 7 and Audrey Betts, 5.
Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, James Weaver.

Obituary Preview: Lester Allen Bell, 87 of Fennville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Addington Place in Holland, Michigan. Born January 25, 1935, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, he was the son of the late Luther and Florence (Heckard) Bell and the husband of the late Sally J. (Hutchins) Bell. Lester and his wife enjoyed their life together and were very busy raising their six children and trying to keep up with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A mechanic by trade, Lester retired from Michigan Fruit Canners and was known around the Fennville area for his expertise in fixing small engines. He was the owner and operator of Les’s Small Engine Repair service and enjoyed the satisfaction it brought him. Spending time with his family though, is what brought him the most joy. He loved their times together and the fun they created just being around one another. Lester also enjoyed sitting on his front porch with Sally and waiving or visiting with anyone that would walk or drive by their home.
Lester is survived by his children, Judi Thompson, Pam Bell, Daniel (Julie) Bell, Julie (Brian) Evans, Tom Bell and Becky (Tony) Lungaro; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, David Thompson.

Obituary Preview: Eleanor Marie (Arnt) Kruger, 84, of Pullman, MI passed away Friday, October 7, 2022 at Golden Orchards in Fennville. Born March 19, 1938 in Eau Claire, MI, she was the daughter of the late Rolla and Esther (Johnson) Arnt and was the wife of Richard Gustav Kruger. Eleanor and Richard were members of Douglas Community Church. During their marriage of more than sixty years, they loved to travel together and had visited locations all over the United States. Eleanor was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking as well. She had quite a green thumb and was fond of spending time in her garden and watching the hummingbirds.
In addition to her husband, Richard, Eleanor is survived by her children, Steve Kruger, Diane Kruger and David Kruger; and her grandchild, Shyloh Kruger. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Clifford Arnt and Edith Bishop; and her grandchild, Paige Kruger.
The family will receive friends at Chappell Funeral Home on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with interment following at Fennville City Cemetery.

Merchant Henry Brown - August 07, 1925 - October 07, 2022

Obituary Preview: Merchant Henry Brown, Jr. was born to the union of Merchant Brown And Winnie Roane on August 7, 1925 in King William, Virginia. He was the youngest child and only boy.
As a child, Merchant attended school in King William, Virginia. He attended King William High School for two to three years and then began working on his family's farm as this was custom during this time. Merchant and his family attended the Third Union Baptist Church where he was also baptized as a child.
In 1943, just two days after his 18th birthday, Merchant enlisted in the United States Navy. He served two years, six months, and 21 days in the United States Navy.
Merchant’s time in the military led him to the city of Chicago. In 1945, he met the lovely Olivia Vernoy and married her on June 5th, 1945 in Waukegan, Illinois. The Browns had two sons and four daughters. They raised their children in Chicago, Illinois before moving to Maywood, Illinois.
Merchant was an amazing provider for his family, he drove for Fritz Carrier and Checker Cab Company. Merchant worked as a courier for Puralator Inc. for over 20 years before retiring and moving to his home in Pullman, Michigan.
Merchant was a member of the Rooster Channel Jumpers CB Club where his handle was Turningpoint. He was also an avid fisherman and prior to retiring could be found traveling in his RV with boat in tow to one of his many fishing spots across the Midwest. Merchant was a skilled handyman - repairing lawnmowers, cars, and appliances.
Merchant passed away peacefully on October 7, 2022 at his home in Pullman, Michigan with his daughters and other family members by his side.
Merchant leaves to carry on his legacy: three daughters, Judy Brown of Wheaton, Illinois, Diane Fareed of Lithonia, Georgia, and Brenda Long of Pullman, Michigan, 19 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, and a host of other family and close friends including William King. Merchant was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sisters, Dinah Washington and Theresa Jefferson; two sons, Meredith Brown and Merchant Brown, III; and one daughter, Tandalaya Brown.
There will be a funeral service on October 22, 2022, at Chappell Funeral Home at 1:00pm with an hour of public visitation beforehand. Immediately after the service, internment will be at Lee Cemetery with Military Honors.

Obituary Preview: Randolph Scott Thompson passed away pain free at his home in Zeeland October 6, 2022. Randy was born on September 4, 1958 in Allegan, Michigan, to his parents Robert and Barbara (Fosdick) Thompson. After graduating high school from Fennville class of ’76 he would go on to meet Debora Schreiber, the love of his life, at a Halloween party. Their instant connection and perfect chemistry would start a relationship of 38 years. They would share 27 of those years in marriage together. Randy was a strong, faithful, and dedicated husband to his wife Deb. Another love they shared were for their cats, Makita and Tyson. Their love for animals and care for others is contagious, sharing kindness and love to anyone they knew. Randy could be a real sarcastic SOB at times, but this made him unique in a special way. He was friendly and could relate to anyone over anything. Randy breathed and lived sports daily, he could recall statistics and plays for many favorite sports teams dating back years. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and was a dedicated fan for life. He loved his wife, cats and family through and through.
He is survived by his mother, Barbara (Fosdick) and Leo Birkholz; wife, Debora (Schreiber) Thompson; and siblings, Kathy (Scott) Kelch, Jeff (Sara) Thompson, Alice (Richard) Cornelissen, and Christie (Allen) Martin.
There will be a graveside service Friday, October 14, 2022, at 2:00pm in the Fennville City Cemetery. Immediately following the graveside there will be a celebration of life at the Fennville VFW located on 2373 53rd Street, in Fennville, MI 49408.

David Earl Hutchins - June 04, 1944 - September 29, 2022

Obituary Preview: David Earl Hutchins, 78 of Fennville, Michigan, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Holland Hospital. Born June 4, 1944 in Douglas, Michigan, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Helen (Bale) Hutchins and the husband of Debra (Hapke) Hutchins. David and Debra were proud to be the first Hobo King and Queen at the City of Fennville Hobo Days Celebration 1988. As a career, David was a barber by trade. Being very patriotic, he served honorably for 21 years in the United States Navy achieving rank of an E-7 Chief Petty Officer. Along the lines of serving others, he was also a volunteer Fire Fighter for over 20 years. His commitment to mankind was strong and he did his best to provide safety for those in need. David was a true family man and he and his wife of 36 years, Debra, loved raising their daughters together. He was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Dutcher #193 Lodge, a passionate golfer and was known as a big prankster. His nickname was even “Trub,” so that may speak volumes for those close to him!
Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Debra; his daughters, Alicia (Jessica Starrett) Hutchins and Tammy (Duncan) Mouw; five grandchildren; and six siblings, Marilyn Nye, Connie Giles, Jim Hutchins, Dale Hutchins, Joann McElyia, and Richard Hutchins.
Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by three siblings, Keith Hutchins, Sally Bell, and Max Hutchins.
The family will meet with friends on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the Chappell Funeral Home from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at which time the Memorial Service will begin, Pastor Ronnie Ewing officiating. Obituary Preview: Raymond Gonzales, 74 of Fennville, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born April 18, 1948, in La Font, Missouri, he was the son of the late Solomon and Josefina (Vallejo) Gonzales. Raymond possessed wonderful qualities that allowed him to be friends with many people that crossed his path in life. He had a great knack of helping others in need and was known as a jokester who loved to laugh and make others laugh. He enjoyed magic tricks and loved dogs, especially his pup, J-Lo. Raymond was very kind to others and had a special bond with his brother, Frank. He loved his family and some of his friends even became like family. His strength and outlook while battling cancer was an inspiration to others and he is already missed greatly.
Ray is survived by his son, Raymond Gonzales, Jr.; his daughter, Cecilia Gonzales; two grandchildren; three siblings, Frank Gonzales, Tony Gonzales and Isabelle Gonzales; and special friend, Jennifer Frost.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his five siblings, Amille, Annette, Anita, Santiago, and Ramona.

Obituary Preview: Stella Francine North, 75 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at her home. Born June 25, 1947, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Joel and Lois (Hill) Ledford and the wife of the late Bobby North. Stella was a truly amazing woman. She had such a heart for her Savior and His love and compassion poured out of her to touch every person she came in contact with. She loved her family and her greatest joy was spending time with them. She created a loving, nurturing home for her husband and children and later for her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing and camping. Stella loved flowers and being out in God’s beautiful nature. Being around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought Stella great joy and many smiles. She found a church home within the Grand Rapids First Church in Wyoming, Michigan and truly embraced being a member and enjoyed the special relationships formed within the church.
Those left to remember Stella are her children, Victoria (Clyde) Hendrickson and Robert (Eva) North; five grandchildren, Jesse, Katherine, Charlotte, T.J., and Isabell; two great-grandchildren, Tabitha Jo and Davina; and her four siblings, Alicia (Ed) Clark, Kay (Butch) Gibson, Joel (Karen) Ledford, and Terry (David) Neuman.

Born August 14, 1931 in Holland, she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Bertha (Vander Zwaag) Zwiers and was the wife of the late Robert John Berens. Alice loved elephants and enjoyed collecting different elephant items over the years. More than anything, though, she loved her family. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandson brought her the greatest joy. She will be remembered for her sweet, kind and caring nature and will be missed by all who knew her.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Vicky (John) Drapak; brother, Donald (Arloa) Zwiers; grandchildren, Mathew (Chelsa) Brandsen, Andrew (Katie) Brandsen and Bailey (Sean) Locke; and great-grandson, Tyler Brandsen. In addition to her parents, Harry and Bertha, and her dear husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jim (Joyce) Zwiers.

Obituary Preview: Lawrence William Babinski, 82, passed quietly on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. Larry loved his wife of 62 years, Phyllis, more than anything. They loved their many trips to Memphis, and in their later years they enjoyed summers in Michigan and winters in Florida. Family was the most important part of his life. He was a very proud father to his kids, Kim, Larry, Tami and Pam and granddaughters, number 1 Lisa, number 2 Sarah, number 3 Ashley, number 4 Krystal and number 5 Lauren as he called them. Larry fought so hard to stay around so he could watch a new generation of great grandchildren grow up. He loved many nieces and nephews as if they were his own. He will be remembered for his humor and his ability to talk to anyone, and we mean talk!
Larry was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Caroline Babinski; his father, Anthony Babinski Sr.; and brother, Anthony Babinski Jr.

Born March 3, 1941, in Holland, Michigan, he was the son of the late Albert and Alyda (Grotenhuis) VanDerHulst. Leo worked as a mechanic most of his life, though, since he loved it so much and was very talented at it, it never seemed like work. He was able to help out friends and family alike with his mechanical abilities. If he wasn’t tinkering with tools, he enjoyed fishing, especially in the Gulf of Mexico. His enthusiasm for life made Leo a great person to be around.
Leo is survived by his three brothers, Wayne (Kathy) VanDerHulst, Paul (Bonnie) VanDerHulst and Randy (Barb) VanDerHulst; his sister, Joan (Mike) VanderKooi; and his best friend for over 60 years, John Denuyl.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. The family wishes to thank Kindred Hospice of Grand Rapids for their compassion and care shown to Leo during his last days here on earth and a big thank you to Appledorn Assisted Living South for their constant attention and care while Leo was with them. JoAnna was a kind and caring person, who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her spare time was spent working on her crafts and fishing. JoAnna battled illnesses for many years but did her best not to let it get her down. She never wanted her illnesses to intrude on precious time spent with her family. Her memory will stay alive through the retelling of special moments spent together.Those left to cherish her memories are her three children, Angi (Andy) Pena, Rafael (Cindy) Moreno, and Raymond (Katrina) Moreno; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five siblings.Along with her parents, JoAnna was preceded in death by her other five siblings.The family will meet with friends at Chappell Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at which time the funeral service will begin, Pastor Rick Jones officiating. Burial will take place in East Saugatuck Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following interment at the VFW in Fennville, Michigan (2373 53rd St, Fennville, MI 49408). He could make you laugh about the little or hard things in life.He is survived by his nine children, Patricia, Circilda, Amalia, Victor, Luis, Pedro, Maria, Rosa and Samuel; six siblings, Jacinta, Daria, Adriano, Fidel, Antonia and Carmela; 26 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.The family will meet with friends at San Felipe de Jesus Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at which time the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 AM, Father Fabio Garzon officiating. Jane progressed through the County Normal teaching system and eventually studied at Western Michigan University where she earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees. She taught three years in rural schools, four years in Saugatuck-Douglas and 23 years in Fennville. Jane served many years as a 4-H leader, member of the Grange and Fennville Library Board and belonged to the Michigan Education Association, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs and Allegan County Retired School Personnel. Her husband of 38 years, Gene, died in 1989 leaving Jane to live out the remainder of her life surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was blessed with a caring and wonderful family and together they shared many loving and lasting memories. She leaves behind her four children, Daniel Nally, Michael Nally, Mary (Dennis) Squires, and Russ (Vicky) Nally; her numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.The family will meet with friends on Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Chappell Funeral Home in Fennville from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. A funeral service, including Rebekah honors, will be held directly after the viewing. A reception will be held post service at the Fennville Rebekah Lodge. Phil was a hard worker who owned and operated his own plumbing company, Wightman Service Plumbing along with working for the State Department of Corrections as their plumber. He spent many years opening and closing cottages along the lakeshore, finally retiring (for real) at the age of 79. Phil was very involved in his community and was a member of the Fennville Rod and Gun Club and the SNO-Gooders, serving several years on both of their boards. He was also a charter member of Douglas Community Church and the North Point Motor Lodge (DBA the Deer Shack). Phil was a loving and caring father and thoroughly enjoyed being involved in his children’s lives. He was a wonderful role model who instilled ethical and moral values into their lives. Another of his greatest joys was spending time in the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, Phil was always happy when able to spend time afield or afloat. It was often in these places that he galvanized his most meaningful relationships with friends and family members. He especially loved the many opportunities he had to share his love of nature with youth, teaching and mentoring the next generation about the stewardship of nature.Phil is survived by his children, Rondi Wightman and husband, Greg Stinson, Jodi (Loren) Curtis, and Wendi Wightman and husband, Brian Newton; one granddaughter, Sierra Newton; two great-grandchildren, Harper and Allrianne Goodale-Newton; two sisters, Carolyn Gilman and Doris (George) Peltier; one sister-in-law, Judith Wightman; his best buddy, Barney; nieces and nephews and many, many close friends.Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Lucile (Keith) VanKoevering, Francis (Milton) Strand; and Dale Wightman; and his brother-in-law, James Gilman.A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at A-Cut Above Event Center located at 6080 Blue Star Highway, Saugatuck, MI 49453. Phillip desired to further his career, so he went back to school and earned his associates degree from Lake Michigan College in 2019. While he was generally a quiet man, he could also be quite the prankster and was quick with a good joke. Phillip will be remembered as a fierce and loyal father and friend.In addition to his mother, Nancy, and his wife of twenty-one years, Jeanette, he is survived by his children, Kendra Cross, Kayla Cross, Morgan Cross and Dakota Cross; sisters, Melinda (Rick) Bruechert, Michelle (Scott) August and Patricia Cross (Paulo Pena); grandchildren, Kaiden, Elijah and Xander; and many nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends at Chappell Funeral Home on Thursday, July 21, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
