Peter Jacobson - May 12, 1961 - April 25, 2024

Departed: 04/25/2024 (Mashpee)
Obituary Preview: Peter L. Jacobson Jr., 62, of Mashpee, passed away peacefully at Brigham and Womens Hospital on April 25, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Cheryl Jacobson and son of Elsie Jacobson and the late Peter L. Jacobson, Sr.
Growing up in Mashpee, Peter and his siblings had an idyllic childhood, always on the water or in the woods, surrounded by friends and close family, uncles, aunts and cousins.
Peter has never been one to sit around- unless he was telling you a funny story! He loved the outdoors and appreciated the natural environment. Peter was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycles and just simply being in the woods of Maine. He was a member of the Falmouth Rod and Gun Club and attended many events such as Ducks Unlimited and The National Wild Turkey Federation fundraisers.
Anyone who knew Peter, knew what a hard worker he was- as a boy he always had some kind of job. He had a newspaper route, he mowed lawns, he raked seaweed off the beach, whatever he was able to do to earn some money to save up for something he wanted. When he was old enough, Peter followed in his father’s footsteps and began working in the family business, Peter L. Jacobson Plumbing and Heating, and eventually became a partner after earning his plumbers license. Peter was a craftman, and built many things including collaborating in the construction of the camp in Maine. Those who know Peter know his attention to detail- right down to the way he stacks his woodpile! He was a perfectionist and it showed in everything he built or maintained. He used that craftsmanship in the kitchen as well. Peter loved to cook, especially if it was something he harvested himself. You were in for a treat if you got to taste his smoked turkey or his Oysters Peterfeller!
In June 1991, he married the love of his life, Cheryl. Peter and Cheryl were inseparable. Where there was Peter and Cheryl there was laughter. Their mutual love for the outdoors led them on many adventures, from days camping in tents to cherished memories of spending time at the camp in Maine. Peter has said, “Cheryl is my rock”, they were by each other’s side through the good times and especially during the challenges. He also loved spending time with his family. He was a loving husband and brother and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his loving wife Cheryl and his mother Elsie, Peter is survived by three siblings, Lisa Higgins and husband Alexander of Mashpee, Walter Jacobson and wife Chris of Mashpee, Sylvia Smoller and husband David of East Falmouth and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Chapman Funerals and Cremations 74 Algonquin Ave (Rte 151) Mashpee, on Saturday May 4th from 9am to 11am. A funeral service will follow in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Osterville at 12PM. Burial will be private.

Michael Renaccio - January 25, 1929 - April 23, 2024

Departed: 04/23/2024 (Mashpee)
Obituary Preview: Michael N. Renaccio passed away at 95 in Falmouth Hospital April 23, 2024 with family at his side. He was born in Cambridge, Mass on January 25,1929 to Mary Civida Vaudo, an Italian immigrant, and Anthony Louis Renaccio, a resident of the Italian North End in Boston.
He graduated from Arlington High School after a year and a half tenure in the US Navy during the tail end of WWII. He was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan with the Occupation Forces and was assigned to the heavy cruiser USS Chicago. Upon returning to the States, he was involved in the decommissioning of the USS Boston, another heavy cruiser, in Bremerton, WA. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1947 to finish high school. He often reminisced how kind and gentle the Japanese citizens were. He admired the simplicity and beauty of their culture, architecture, gardens, and design and tried to incorporate those feelings into his own work and life.
After completing his final year of high school, Michael went on to attend The New England School of Art and Graphic Design. Noticed for his outstanding work, he was offered and accepted a position at Wayside Furniture Company in Milford, CT. After several years gaining experience in his field, he returned to Massachusetts with his young family to work for Hewlett Packard formerly Sanborn Company in Waltham before joining forces and working for a short time with his brother Anthony in Advertising. In the early 1970’s Michael started his own company aptly named M R Associates located in Acton, MA. With attention to detail and dealing with advertisers and designers he built an extensive client base. His son Steven joined MR a few years later and together they made the company the success it is today.
Along the way he purchased several condos for investment and two buildings; one for MR Associates and the second of which housed his other interest, Billings Realty, where office space was rented to a variety of businesses and professional individuals such as psychologists and insurance salesmen to name a few. Billings Realty was the original Billings Tavern and Inn along the ‘Route 2 Stagecoach Corridor’ which was also along the Underground Railroad where slaves escaping from the South on their way to Canada in the 1700’s could find shelter, food, and safety. Aside from Building Code updates, Michael maintained the original look and feel of the structure to the delight of his tenants.
Michael’s athletic skills shone brightly on the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont. He became an avid and proficient Black Diamond downhill skier with several of his children following in his wake. His favorite mountain quickly became Sugarbush in Vermont, and he skied as often as time would permit. But he did travel to the Rocky Mountains as well as Europe several times for even more skiing adventures with his ‘ski buddies’. His goal was to ski until he turned 72 so he could get a free years’ ski pass from Sugarbush…and he did. Mike, with his son, Steve, purchased a ski house at Sugarbush which they renovated to fit his large family and many friends.
Michael’s favorite times were family holidays and get togethers and he recently shared a recipe he learned from his Italian mother called ‘Bread Boomp’. He hoped his future generations would carry on the tradition.
Michael is predeceased by his first wife Priscilla Ann Manzo whom he met in high school. He is survived by their six children; Steven M. and his wife Janet of Littleton, MA; Michele Nicole Gaffney and her fiancé, Al Lowe of Mashpee, MA and Naples, FL; Susan [Renaccio] and her husband Jim Sukeforth of Naples, FL; Judy and her husband Larry Burak of No. Easton, MA; Marybeth Renaccio of Stoughton, MA; Priscilla and her husband Mick Vergura of Palo Alto, CA.
He leaves his six grandchildren; Neil Prentiss and his wife Jen; Nicholas Renaccio and his wife Maeve, Chris Renaccio, Alexandra Burak, Steven Burak, and Maddie Vergura. He also leaves two great-grandsons Alex Prentiss and Max Prentiss.
Michael leaves his second wife Carol Ann Hand Renaccio, of 30 years of Walpole & Bourne, MA, and her son Kevin Jason Shaw and his wife Marena Lynn of Arlington, Virginia, as well as five great step-grandchildren, Scott Brennan, Colton Walker, Shaina Joann, Justine Lara, and Jeremiah.
Michael leaves a brother and two sisters; Anthony Joseph Renaccio of Medway, MA; Mary Rose Renaccio of Boston, MA; Joan Elwood of Tyngsboro, MA.
A visitation will be held at Chapman Funerals and Cremations 74 Algonquin Ave. (Rte 151) Mashpee on Friday May 17, 2024 from 10:30am to 12:30pm. A funeral service will follow at 12:30pm. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:45pm.

Rev. Msgr. Ronald A. Tosti - November 02, 1936 - April 06, 2024

Departed: 04/06/2024 (Mashpee)
Obituary Preview: Reverend Monsignor Ronald A. Tosti, of Cotuit, MA, died April 6, 2024 following a brief illness at Charlton Memorial Hospital, in Fall River, MA. He was 87 years old.
Rev. Msgr. Tosti was born November 2, 1936 in Taunton, MA, the only child of the late Antonio M. Tosti and the late Norma (Ginesi) Tosti. He was educated at the Taunton Public Schools, graduating in 1954. At the same time, he studied piano at Boston University College of Music until he entered St. Thomas Seminary in Bloomfield, CT. In 1956, he received his Associate Degree, and then went on to St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore, MD where in 1958 he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Continuing at that same institution for four years of theological studies, Rev. Msgr. Tosti was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Fall River on May 11, 1962, by Bishop James L. Connolly, DD, Bishop of Fall River.
Rev. Msgr. Tosti’s first assignment as a Diocesan Priest was as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, in Osterville, MA. During this tenure he raised the money for, and designed the interior of what was to become Queen of All Saints Chapel in Mashpee, MA. He remained there until 1968 and then for a brief period was parochial vicar at Sacred Heart Parish, and Director of Sacred Heart School in Fall River, MA. From there, Rev. Msgr. Tosti went to Fordham University in New York where in 1970 he received a Master of Arts Degree in Religious Studies. Upon graduation, he was appointed as Diocesan Director of Religious Education, a post he held through 1973 when Bishop Cronin reorganized the education department of the diocese and subsumed religious education into Catholic School Education. Rev. Msgr. Tosti then returned to parish ministry at Saints Peter and Paul Parish in Fall River, MA. There, Tosti was present for the disastrous fire in April of 1971 which brought about the total destruction of Saints Peter and Paul Church. He oversaw the building of the new church, school, and parish center in what had been the previous parish school. In 1977, Bishop Daniel A. Cronin named Rev. Msgr. Tosti Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in New Bedford, MA. In 1984, he was sent to Cape Cod to found, develop, and build a new parish that was established as Christ the King Parish in Mashpee, MA in November of 1984, and dedicated in November of 1989. Rev. Msgr. Tosti remained as pastor there until his retirement in June of 2006 after nearly 45 years as a priest.
His 23 years as founding pastor of Christ the King Parish was clearly the happiest time in his life as a priest. There he empowered hundreds of people to ministry in the Church. He saw that empowerment as his principal task as pastor and leader of a faith community. To empower, trust, affirm, and thank; the hallmark of his ministry in a time of a changing world and particularly in a church that was undergoing not only change but at the turn of this century, a time of excruciating pain. He was ably assisted by Deacon Robert D. Lemay as a pastoral assistant and permanent Deacons, Frank Fantasia, and Gregory Beckel. Four women religious, two Sisters of Mercy, Dympna Smith, and Shirley Agnew, and two Dominican Sisters of Hope, Annette Roach, and Claire Sinotte, completed the professional staff. Mary Becker, his longtime secretary and office manager, became the kingpin of the considerable organization that serviced nearly three thousand families. As an administrator, he designed, oversaw the building of, and raised the funds to the amount of more than 7 million dollars for the completion of Christ the King Parish complex in Mashpee, MA. Before his own retirement, Rev. Msgr. Tosti joyfully retired the debt of the parish to the Diocese of Fall River, was knighted as a member of the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher and was presented with the prestigious award of the Order of the Palm.
In May of 2003, he was named as a Chaplain to the Holy Father by Pope John Paul II with the title of Reverend Monsignor and as a Prelate of Honor in October of 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI with the same title.
During these 45 years, Rev. Msgr. Tosti had many varied assignments in addition to his parochial duties including: Area Director of Religious Education, Member of the Divine Worship Committee, Defender of the Bond of the Marriage Tribunal, Area Director of Catholic Charities, Secretary to the Diocesan Synod, member of the Priests’ Personnel Board, and Member of the Priests’ Council. In 1977, he was appointed director of the Diocese’ 75th Jubilee Committee and organized a number of programs and events for the 1979 Jubilee year for the whole diocese. In 1977, Tosti was named director of Family Ministry and then formed and established the Family Life Center in North Dartmouth, MA, a retreat, and office facility that he directed for nearly a decade. Along with the marriage preparation programs and retreats, Rev. Msgr. Tosti continued the support groups for Divorced and Separated Catholics and started the Widowed Support Groups. In 1995, Bishop O’Malley appointed Rev. Msgr. Tosti as the Director of Pastoral Planning, a position he held for nearly 10 years, traveling throughout the diocese preparing parishes to merge or close. He served on numerous other committees and councils throughout these years.
Rev. Msgr. Tosti was devoted to his parents, to his uncle Gene Ginesi, his godmother Clara Baldini Hardie, family friends Sarah C. Halligan, and Albina Rogers, as well as long time parishioners Carmine and Annabelle Marchillo.
On a personal note, Rev. Msgr. Tosti was pretty much known as “Renaissance Man”. He was once called “the quintessential existentialist”. For him, life consisted of a positive and upbeat philosophy. He was frequently quoted as saying that “This is not a dress rehearsal” – a quote he had engraved on his tombstone. He played the piano all his life and later took up the harp, which he continued to play until his death. Rev. Msgr. Tosti loved to travel and over the years, brought many groups abroad, particularly to Italy. There, he had numerous relatives that he frequently visited as well as entertained at his Cotuit home “Villa Franca” named after his ancestral town in Piedmont “Francavilla”. He was a well-known cook, and in his retirement provided cooking classes in his home each October for many participants. He truly enjoyed entertaining and cooking for his family and friends. Doing needlepoint was a most pleasant and relaxing hobby for him. He loved to garden, and his gardens were twice utilized by the Cotuit Library for their annual Tour of Cotuit Homes and Gardens. He collected antiques, particularly Rose Medallion Chinese Export, and was also a licensed antique dealer during his retirement years. Rev. Msgr. Tosti enjoyed animals, he had a series of Blue Persian cats, as well as a pair of parakeets in his home, and a school of Coys in his fishpond. He enjoyed long walks, and for many years was an avid biker. He was a member of the Sons of Italy at Peter B. Gay Lodge, in Taunton, MA, was a member of all of the civic organizations of Cotuit, and for 3 years was a Trustee and Board Member of the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra and Conservatory of Music.

He was a man of his own, and a leading example in his tribal community, teaching the next generation how to fish, how to camp, and how to live off the land. In more recent years, Lincoln enjoyed gardening - veggie gardening more than flowers, though he did have some beautiful roses in his garden. More than anything, Lincoln is remembered as a loving father, son, brother, cousin, uncle, and dear friend and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Lincoln is survived by his lifelong companion, Maricela De Leon; his daughter Estrella “Star” De Leon; his son Jason Joseph; his mother Janet Hendricks; his brother Ralph Hendricks, and his wife Maureen; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's often published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the person's passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing important information to those who need to know about the funeral or memorial service. They can also help people pay their respects, share condolences, and remember the person who has passed away.

What information is typically included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and achievements. It may also include information about their surviving family members, funeral or memorial service details, and any charities or organizations where donations can be made in their memory.

Who writes an obituary?

The task of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. Funeral homes or obituary writers may also assist in writing the obituary. In some cases, the deceased person may have written their own obituary in advance.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Typically, it ranges from a few sentences to several paragraphs. Online obituaries can be longer and more detailed than those published in newspapers.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only the basic facts such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a more detailed and personalized tribute to the deceased person's life.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, you can write your own obituary in advance. This can be a therapeutic exercise that allows you to reflect on your life and legacy. It can also spare your loved ones from having to write it during a difficult time.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department or visit their website to learn about their submission guidelines and deadlines. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I publish an obituary online?

Yes, there are many online platforms where you can publish an obituary, such as Legacy.com, Tributes.com, or FuneralHomes.com. These websites often allow you to create a memorial page with photos, stories, and condolences.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some publications offer free or low-cost options, while others may charge by the word or line. Expect to pay anywhere from $50 to $500 or more for publication.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can help personalize the tribute and make it more engaging for readers.

How do I notify friends and family about an obituary?

You can share the obituary on social media, via email or messaging apps, or by word of mouth. You can also ask the funeral home or crematorium to distribute copies of the obituary to attendees at the funeral or memorial service.

What if I want to keep the funeral private?

If you prefer to keep the funeral private, you can still publish an obituary without including details about the service. This way, you can still share news of the person's passing with friends and community members while maintaining privacy around the funeral arrangements.

Can I include charitable donations in an obituary?

Yes, it's common to include information about charitable donations in lieu of flowers in an obituary. This allows friends and family to make a meaningful contribution in memory of the deceased person.

The timeframe for publishing an obituary varies depending on the publication's schedule and deadlines. Online platforms may publish immediately, while newspapers may take several days or even weeks to print.

Is it possible to write multiple versions of an obituary?

Yes! You might want to create different versions for different audiences or platforms. For example, you could write a shorter version for social media and a longer version for a newspaper or online memorial page.
