Born in Walton, NY he was a son of the late John Schreier and Mildred Ellott Schreier.
Jack proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Jack and his wife Marilyn owned and operated the Christian Book Store, The Shepherds Shoppe (Bible and Book Store) for 34 years in Greenwood, SC where he touched many lives.
Survivors include: His beloved wife of 54 years Marilyn Irene Beck Schreier of the home; a daughter Kelly Rousey (Dennis) and a son John Schreier (Andrea); grandchildren Austin Sears (Grace), Katie Slentz (Howard); Great-grandchildren Silas, Charley, Destiny, Griffin, and Maddox; great-great-grandson Floki; a sister Joan Cotten.
A Celebration of Jack’s life will be conducted Wednesday March 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends after services at the home 39 Finley Dr., Greenwood, SC.

Rayford Waters - August 29, 1925 - February 20, 2021

Obituary Preview: Rayford Carroll Waters, 95, resident of 601 Barnwell St.widower of Betty Jean Rudder Waters passed away peacefully Saturday Feb. 20, 2021 at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, SC.
Born in Abbeville, SC he was a son of the late Dewitt Waters and Roberta Hutchinson Waters McNair.
Rayford proudly serviced his country during WWII as a Navy Veteran. He was a retired textile employee/security officer at the Abbeville Sharon Plant. Rayford enjoyed gardening and keeping his yard clean and neat but, his real joy was caring for his family.
Survivors are: three daughters Linda Waters Cheek of New Smyrna, FL, Joyce Elaine Waters Hall of Lowndesville, SC and Stephanie Dawn Waters Copelan of Abbeville, SC; a son Richard Waters of Fayetteville, TN; and thirty-one grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday Feb. 24, 2021 at 2:00 PM in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Marion Argo officiating with Military Honors.
The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 until 1:30 PM at the Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home prior to graveside services.

Born in Moline, IL. He was the son of Lenora Stanphill Sanderson and the late Alton Sanderson.
Roger was a retired Sargent First Class in the United States Army with 24 years of service. He received his BA Degree in Management and his Masters Degree in Education during his 24 year career in the Army. He was an avid football fan and he loved his Alabama Crimson Tide “ROLL TIDE” and his beloved Chicago Bears. He loved animals as shown by his 6 wonderful dogs. He attended Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include: His beloved wife Sharon Page Sanderson of the home; his mother Lenora Stanphill Sanderson; a brother Richard Sanderson of Hackleburg, AL: two sisters Wendy Hamilton of Hackleburg, Al.and Deb Suess of West Allis, Wisconsin; a daughter and a son; and his 6 wonderful dogs.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday March 5, 2021 at 10:30 AM in Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC with Wade Page officiating with Full Military Honors.

Dr. Lowry Ware - September 17, 1928 - February 08, 2021

Obituary Preview: Dr. Lowry Price Ware, 92, died at Wesley Commons (Greenwood) on February 8, 2021. Born September 17, 1928, he was the 3rd child of five born to the late Charlie B. Ware and the late Ruby Price Ware. Surviving is a brother, Gene R. (Shirley) Ware of Due West. Also surviving are nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Charlie B. Ware, Jr, Allen E. Ware and a sister, Mabel Ware Baggett. He was a life-long resident of Due West.
He was a life-long member of the Due West ARP Church where he taught Sunday School for decades, served as a Deacon, served as an Elder for 29 years, and was Clerk of Session for a number of terms. He loyally supported many congregational activities for over five decades.
Lowry was a precocious child and an omnivorous reader with a remarkable memory for everything he read. He attended the public schools of Due West, graduated from Due West High School and entered Erskine College. He majored in history, graduated in 1949 and entered the graduate school of history at the University of South Carolina. He earned MA and PhD degrees submitting a dissertation on William E. Dodd’s academic career (he was a scholar and US diplomat). Lowry was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the most prestigious academic distinction in the United States and for many years an officer in the Phi Beta Kappa regional society.
Lowry returned to Erskine as a member of the history department in 1954 and served as a professor until his retirement in 1987. He was a popular teacher, especially for those students destined for graduate academic degrees, medical schools and law schools. He continued to write and edit books well into his eighties. He co-authored The Second Century: A History of the Associated Reformed Presbyterians, 1882-1982, and wrote Old Abbeville: Scenes of the Past of a town Where Old Time Things are not Forgotten, A Place Called Due West: The Home of Erskine College, Chapters in the History of Abbeville County, the “Banner County” of South Carolina, and The Daniel Legacy: The Transforming Power of Philanthropy. Most of the thirty books he produced are edited works of diaries, census records and a myriad of other topics providing historians and genealogists with incomparable resources.
A special thank you to Jim Gettys, Jenny Kelly, and Lynn Veach for their ongoing efforts to visit Lowry several times each week.
A memorial service will be held Friday Feb. 12, 2021 at 3:00 PM in the Due West ARP Church with the Revs. Calvin Draffin and Scott Moore officiating.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic mask are required and social distancing will be observed.
There will be a private family burial. The Ware family will receive friends following the service on Friday  in the front of the church sanctuary.

Obituary Preview: William “Bill” Glover Underwood, 72, resident of Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, formerly of Greenwood, SC passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021.
Born in Abbeville Co. SC he was a son of the late William “Gene” Underwood and Sarah Belle Fleming Underwood.
He was a Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a former mason, musician and worked in maintenance as his career. In the last few years he enjoyed faceting and framing his Indian artifacts he had once found and collected during his younger years.
He was a member of Lupo United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: a brother Bobby Underwood (Sharon) of Greenwood, SC and two daughters.
The family would like to THANK the caring staff of Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home where he spent his last year when he could no longer be cared for at home. Also a special thank you to Sandra Farmer Humphrey for her help in his care during his declining years.
Due to COVID-19, a private family graveside service with military honors will be conducted Sunday February. 7, 2021 at 2:00 PM in Little Mountain Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ralph Byars officiating.

Corky Koonts - March 07, 1927 - February 04, 2021

Obituary Preview: Cortlandt “Corky” Morper Koonts, 93, wife of the late J. Calvin “Cal” Koonts, died peacefully Feb. 4, 2021, at Carolina Pines Hospital in Hartsville, SC. She was the first born child of the late Milton C. Morper, Sr. and Annie Louise Walton Morper of Archer, FL. She was preceded in death by her brother, Milton C. Harper, Jr., and her sister, Charlotte Morper Hollingworth. Corky, born March 7, 1927, graduated from Archer High School. She later graduated from Florida State University where she received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. Following graduation she moved to Due West, SC where she met her husband, Cal Koonts, of 52 years. Corky was a member of the faculty at Erskine College and Lander College, where she taught both piano and organ.
Corky had a deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. She became a member of the Due West Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and served as church organist to many different churches in the Due West area. Corky was an active member of the Women’s Ministries of the Due West A.R.P. Church. She assisted and directed many church music conferences at the Bonclarken A.R.P. Church Retreat and Brevard Music Center in North Carolina.
Corky is survived by her son, Carlisle Woodson Koonts and his wife, Linda, of Hartsville, SC and her daughter, Camille Stein and her husband, John Stein, of Medford, NJ; she has seven grandchildren; Taylor Koonts, Cameron Koonts, JeNe’ New, Christopher Stein, Eric Stein, Caroline Stein, and Will Stein.
A 3:30 Graveside funeral service will be held at the Due West A.R.P. Church Cemetery on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021, with the Rev. Calvin Draffin officiating.

Steven Perry - December 07, 1955 - January 27, 2021

Steven Lindsey Perry passed away Wednesday Jan. 27, 2021 at Linley Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Anderson, SC. He was the beloved son of the late Claude Perry and Dora Wells Perry. Stevie was born Dec. 7, 1955 in Abbeville, SC and grew up in the Sharon Community.
Survivors include: a brother Billy Perry; a sister Claudette Duffy (Robert); nieces Debbie Duffy, Kristina Burnett (Jack) and their children Sophie and Ben; nephews Eddie Perry, Philip Perry and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother David Perry and nephew John David Perry.
For the past twelve years Stevie has lived at Linley Park Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Anderson, SC. Before he moved to Lindley Park he lived at Rocky River Residential Care in Belton, SC. Stevie has been on dialysis for the last 21 years, and for all he has had to endure, he never ever complained. He was always so brave and so trusting and touched many lives with his sweet and gentle nature. Stevie will be missed by all those who loved him and there were many.
His family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks, love and gratitude to everyone who has taken care of him over the past 21 years. “ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith, I learned to endure to the end.” 2 Timothy 4:7

Obituary Preview: Malinda “Linda” Tolbert Nickles, 73, resident of 108 Parker St. passed away peacefully Saturday Jan. 9, 2021 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Born in Abbeville, SC she was a daughter of the late James Darraugh Tolbert and Evelyn Ware Tolbert.
Linda was a retired Customer Service Representative with Winn Dixie Groceries. She attended Mission Baptist Church and was a member of Little Mountain Presbyterian Church. Linda was an avid Abbeville Panther and South Carolina Gamecock football fan. She was so proud of all the accomplishments her son Jamie earned while coaching Panther Football. She will be missed by her loving family and her many friends.
Survivors Include: her son Jamie Nickles (Misty) of Abbeville, SC; three sisters Rose Mary Terrell, Gail Terrell and Barbara Sprouse (Mike) all of Abbeville, SC; grandsons Connor and Addison Nickles; a special nephew Brant Anderson.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday Jan. 12, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chandler Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with Mr. Pat Hodge officiating. The burial will follow in Little Mountain Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family is at the home of her son Mr. & Mrs. Jamie Nickles 305 Wilewood Rd. Abbeville, SC.
The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 until 1:45 at the funeral home prior to services.

Obituary Preview: Scott Manley “Red Dog” Sutherland, 62, resident of 627 Milford Dairy Rd. passed away Monday Dec. 28, 2020 at his home.
He was born in Abbeville, SC Dec. 6, 1958.
Scott was a 1977 graduate of Abbeville High School. Scott was a recent retiree with the City of Abbeville after 32 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Scott was active in his community having served as a volunteer football and baseball coach with the Abbeville Youth Athletics Association. He was an avid Abbeville Panther football fan having served on the football chain crew for over 31 years. He was an assistant football coach at Wright Middle School. Scott became very active with the SC High School League of officials. He served as a baseball, basketball and softball official for over 32 years. Scott was named South Carolina Official of the Year in 2015-2016 by the SC House of Representatives. Scott was also named the NFHS Official of the year for Softball in 2015. Scott also umpired baseball and softball in the College ranks. He loved to spend time on the water doing what he loved best, fishing. He liked to quote, ”Behind every fearless player is a fearless coach who refuses to let them be anything but the best they can be.” Scott took pride in coaching his son Davis in Abbeville AYA football and baseball. He was tickled that he was recently on the 2020 Abbeville High School State Champion football team and was named a member of the 2020 South Carolina Shrine Bowl Football Team as well as a All State football selection. Scott as he was affectionately known as “Red Dog” by his many friends and family will be greatly missed in our community.
Survivors include: His parents Rachael Manley Blackburn and Bill Blackburn of Abbeville, SC; a daughter Madison Sutherland and a son Davis Sutherland both of Abbeville, SC; two brothers Steve Sutherland (Jenny) and Shannon Sutherland both of Abbeville, SC; special companion and mother of his daughter Dana Uldrick Bonds of Abbeville, SC; a grandson Tristan Sutherland; a number of special aunts and uncles as well as   nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday Dec. 30, 2020 at 3:00 PM at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jason Wilson officiating. The burial will be a private family burial at a later date. The family is at the home of his mother and father Mr. & Mrs. Bill Blackburn, 1001 N. Main St. Abbeville, SC. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 12 noon until 2:45 PM at the church prior to services.

Born in Abbeville, SC he was a son of the late Gaines and Lucille Payton Davis.
Ed was a United States Marine veteran and a retired Electrician with Milliken Textiles. He was a member of Warrenton Presbyterian Church. Ed was an avid fisherman and hunter an also enjoyed working on his cars.
Ed fought a courageous battle and was a 17  year post survivor of Double Transplant Lung Surgery.
Survivors include: His beloved wife of 40 years Dee Ann Parnell Davis of the home; a son Jonathan Davis and a daughter Kelly Davis both of Abbeville, SC; a sister Rita Blue of Abbeville, SC; sister-in-law Phyllis Davis of Abbeville, SC; brother-in-law Aubrey Parnell ( Rebecca) of Calhoun Falls, SC.
He was preceded in death by a brother Skip Davis.
A graveside service to Celebrate Ed’s life will be conducted Friday Dec. 18, 2020 at 2:00 PM in Warrenton Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic the wearing of mask is required.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM in the Social Hall at Warrenton Presbyterian Church prior to services.

Jeffrey Smith - Unknown - December 01, 2020

Obituary Preview: Jeffrey R. Smith, 61, resident of 43 Fletcher Dr. passed away Tuesday Dec. 1, 2020 at AnMed Hospital in Anderson, SC surrounded by his loved ones. He was the son of the late Billy Ralph Smith and Melva Dye Smith. Many nicknames he was known for “Jeff”, “Smitty”, “Doodie Roodie”, “Bubba Lane” and “Uncle Buddie” by his co-workers, friends and family.
Jeffrey grew up in Donalds, SC graduated from Dixie High School, and worked at Milliken plant in Belton, SC. He was a faithful member of the Masonic Lodge in Donalds, SC. Immediately upon graduation, he accepted a job in Indiana and retired from the Federal Penitentiary. After retirement to stay busy, he was employed at Wal-Mart only part-time during seasonal holidays.
Jeffrey is survived by his partner and companion, Jimmy Woods. He has one sister Regina Alewine who he had an unconditional love and relationship with. He reared a niece, Christel Bedenbaugh Parnell, who worshiped the ground he walked on and a nephew, Jonathan Gerald Bedenbaugh, who he cherished every conversation with, unconditional love and spiritual guidance. He leaves behind a great nephew, Bristol Issac Parnell, who he enjoyed shooting hoops with and playing golf with and was proud of all his accomplishments and loved him with all his heart, another great nephew , Bryce Aiden Lollis, the absolute joy of his life, his smile and caring personality on his face lit him up every visit with him. Jeffrey was so excited to move from Indiana back to South Carolina to watch both of them grow up; however, God had other plans.
His hobbies included golfing , watching the Gamecocks play and loving his fur babies Mia and Sugar. Jeffrey will always be remembered for his heart of compassion and love for his family and friends. He fought a good fight and now is in the arms of Jesus.
Services will be conducted Saturday Dec. 5, 2020 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel at Chandler-Jackson Funeral Home with the Rev. Marion Argo officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home prior to services. Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic mask will be required and social distancing observed. The family is at the home of his sister Regina Alewine, 1157 Willie Kay Rd. Donalds, SC.

Obituary Preview: Lottie Jean Ayers Guilford, 84, resident of 82 Woodhaven Lane widow of Sam Jefferson Guilford Passed away Friday Nov. 27, 2020 at the Hospice House in Greenwood, SC.
Born Nov. 7, 1936 she was a daughter of the late Earl Pelham Ayers and Qurdee Cleveland Ayers.
She grew up in Abbeville, SC where she started teaching dance at the age of 14. She studied dance in NYC and traveled around Georgia and South Carolina Teaching countless number of children to dance. Her love of dance spilled over to her 2 daughters and granddaughter and they are carrying on her legacy at The Greenwood Dance Center (formerly Lottie Jean’s School of Dance). She met her late husband Sam on a blind date and loved him everyday from that day forward. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and teacher. She loved her family, friends, our dance families and students and most of all her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She touched so many lives and impacted everyone she met in a positive way. She always remembered peoples name and cared deeply for others. She treasured her memories and friends at Abbeville First Baptist Church and New Covenant Church. She was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class.
Survivors include: a son Jeff Guilford (Felicia) of Greenwood, SC; two daughters Jeanne Ware (Clyde) of Abbeville, SC and Jill Kagley (Larry) of Greenwood, SC; five grandchildren Matthew Ware (Lauren), Haven Amiri (Nak), Cade Kagley, Samantha and Jenna Guilford; three great-grandchildren Holland, Paxton and Maya.
A Celebration of Lottie Jean’s life with family and close friends will be conducted Friday Dec. 4, 2020 at 11:00 AM at New Covenant Church with the Rev. David Harrell officiating. Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic face mask will be required to enter and social distancing will be followed. A drive by visitation will follow in the church parking lot.

Born on June 16, 1935 in Elberton, Georgia, he was the son of the late Hoke Smith Anderson and Zelma Adams Johnson.  Wilton was a U. S. Navy veteran and retired from Flexible Tubing.  He was a member of Faith Harvest Fellowship Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 63 years of the home are his children: Ronald Anderson (Nancy), Russell Anderson (Julie), Cindy Anderson Freeman (James), all from Calhoun Falls; grandchildren: Brandi Anderson, Brittany Anderson Price (Matthew) and Kylie Anderson; and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family is at the home 526 Barnwell St.

Obituary Preview: James Eugene “Gene” Copeland, 94, resident of 217 Noble Drive husband of Rosemary Hodges Copeland passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday Nov. 11, 2020.
Born Oct. 20, 1926 he was a son of the late Guy Hunter Copeland and Margaret Stewart Copeland.
Gene was a 1948 graduate of Presbyterian College with a Bachelors Degree in Education. He received his Masters Degree in English and Psychology from the University of South Carolina. He continued his education taking classes at Furman University. He served as Principal at Sharon School as well as Langley Milliken School. Gene proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Gene Co-Founded the Special Ed program at Sharon school and founded the Adult education program at Abbeville High School. He was a member of Abbeville Presbyterian Church and former Elder. He taught the Men’s Bible Class and especially loved teaching the Young People’s Class. Gene was a mason and member of The Clinton Lodge #3 AFM. He was an avid bird hunter and enjoyed gardening and working in his yard. He was active in his community having coached a number of different baseball teams. The family would like to extend a BIG THANK YOU to Dr. Keith Scott and the staff of Agape Hospice of South Carolina for their compassionate care.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 70 years Rosemary Hodges Copeland of the home; a son Johnny Copeland of Abbeville, SC; a sister Esse Ericksen of Abbeville, SC; grandchildren John Rhett Copeland and Missy Williams (Bruce) both of Abbeville, SC; great-grandchildren Seth and Brice Williams and Alayna and EmmaKate Copeland.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday Nov. 14, 2020 at 3:00 PM in Abbeville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jim Rowell and Chaplin Kevin Garrison officiating. The burial will follow in Long Cane Cemetery. Due to the COVID 19 Pandemic face mask will be required.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church in the Telford Parlor. The family is at the home 217 Noble Drive, Abbeville, SC.

Obituary Preview: Virginia Frances “Fran” Stancil McMeekin, widow of R. Tedford McMeekin, passed from this earth on Oct. 31, 2020 from complications of Alzheimer’s.
She was the daughter of the late Marvin and Lorene Brooks Stancil. She was raised in Oconee County and graduated from Seneca High School. She was a graduate of Greenville General Hospital nursing school and worked as an RN for many years. She and Ted moved to Abbeville, SC in 1966 to raise their family and stayed until Ted’s passing in 2002. She also operated several businesses over the years including a daycare and a picture frame shop. Fran also served as a Girl Scout leader, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the City Zoning Board, a member of Daughters of American Revolution and the Taylors Lion Club.
Fran loved to write and draw and paint. She loved jewelry and big, fancy pocketbooks. She was a genealogy enthusiast and was proud that she had traced her roots to the 1700's.
Fran loved her friends at Abbeville First Baptist Church and being a member of the Red Hatters.
Survivors include: a daughter Ginger Williamson (Lee) of Easley, SC; two sons Dave McMeekin (Cheryln) of Greer, SC and Dr. Stan McMeekin (Beth) of Taylors, SC; a sister Gail Stancil Harbin (Bill) of Seneca, SC; nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers Mike Stancil and Steve Stancil. Both of Westminster, SC.

He was preceded in death by a brother Edward Parnell, Jr.

Born on Abbeville, SC Aug. 26, 1966 he was the son of Ira Dean Stone and the late Eddie Clark.
Craig was a straight-shooting, simple man. Although he was small (lovingly known as nugget by his family), he overcame so much in life, including being diagnosed with Cancer at a young age. He was a fighter, with a mouth almost as big as his heart. He was generous almost to fault, always giving without asking for anything in return. Craig never met a stranger, and found a friend in everyone who knows him. He was one of the hardest working men out there, and on weekends you could find him at Lake Secession, Busch Light in hand, coasting on the pontoon with his beloved wife and his Mattie-girl. He spent many happy days at local golf courses with friends and his uncle John. He adored his wife, and would have celebrated their 22nd anniversary the day after his passing. Craig will be missed by his many family members and countless friends.
