Obituary Preview: OAKVILLE – Alice A. (Elgines) Stemm age 91, died peacefully on Thursday, January 15, 2015 surrounded by the love and comfort of her family at the Watertown Convalarium. She was the widow of Carl J. Stemm.
Alice was born January 30, 1923 in Bayonne NJ, the daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Gedraitis) Elgines. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and was employed for many years as an Administrative Assistant at Waterbury Plating Co. She has lived in Oakville for the past 20 years and was a parishioner of St Mary Magdalen Church where she was also a member of the Catholic Womens Organization. Alice’s family would like to extend their personal gratitude to the staff at the Watertown Convalarium for the kind and compassionate care they shared with Alice during her stay.
Alice is survived by her sister, Gladys R. Tamberino and her husband Edward of Oakville, her brother, Kenneth Mussa and his wife Jo-Ann of Inverness FL as well as her sister in-laws Bernice Proe, and Ruth Mussa, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Richard and Raymond Mussa and her sister, Victoria Lawson. Funeral services for Mrs. Stemm will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. from the O’Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street, to Saint Mary Magdalen Church to celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Mr. Robert Joseph Sheehan, age 64 of Sebastian, Florida died on Sunday, December 23, 2012 in Leesburg, Virginia while visiting family for the holidays. He was the husband of Sandra (Marano) Sheehan.
Robert was born July 6th, 1948 in Waterbury, CT the son of Patricia (Blum) Sheehan of Connecticut; and the late Edward Sheehan. Robert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He attended Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, Connecticut and continued his education at the University of Portland, graduating in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in business. He also received his MBA from Suffolk University in Boston and attended an executive program at Harvard University. For 33 years, he worked in the United States Postal Service, retiring as a senior executive in 2004, and most recently, as Vice President of Postal Relations at Neopost Corporation. During his retirement he split his time between his homes in Sebastian, Florida and Newport, Rhode Island. He enjoyed golfing, home renovating, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians of Newport, RI, Newport Yacht Club, RI, and The Knights of Columbus, St. John of the Cross Catholic Church of Vero Beach, Florida, Council 13153, and Assembly 3297 where he was a 4th degree knight. He was an active member of the St. Sebastian where he served as a Eucharist Minister.
Besides his wife Sandra of 42 years, Robert is survived by, his daughter, Colleen O’Neill and her husband Keith of Virginia, two sons, Christopher Sheehan and his wife Heather of Massachusetts, Brian Sheehan and his wife Erin of New Jersey; his brothers, Richard of Rhode Island, Patrick and Martin of Connecticut, and Timothy of Massachusetts; and his six grandchildren.

CHESHIRE Eleanor J. O’Connor age 74, of Cheshire formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday December 7, 2012 at Saint Mary’s Hospital Vitas Innovative Care Unit.
Eleanor was born June 28th 1938 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Francis E. O'Connor Sr. and Margaret (McIlroy) O’Connor. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High and Saint Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing and received her BA degree from Post University. Eleanor worked as a Registered Nurse at St Mary’s Hospital and Yale New Haven Hospital where she was a Nurse Manager of the GYN Oncology Unit for many years. Eleanor retired from Yale New Haven Hospital in 2007, while assigned to the Express Admissions Unit. Eleanor enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with her family.
Among her survivors are her sister, Rosemary Lawlor of Waterbury and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers Francis E. O’Connor, Jr. and Robert J. O’Connor, her four sisters Marguerite Klein, Elizabeth Lesnikoski, Kathleen Trota, and Eileen Murphy, as well as, her niece and godchild Shannon Rollins and nephew Joseph (Jeff) Trota.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by her cousin, the Rev. James Archambault will be held at Saints Peter and Paul church 67 Southmayd Rd Waterbury on Wednesday December 12th 2012 at 10:30a.m. Those planning on attending are asked to meet directly at the church. She was a graduate of Crosby High School and worked as a secretary for Prospect Limousine for many years. Denise was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who was committed to caring for her family and was always happiest when she was surrounded by them, especially her grandchildren.
Among her survivors are her daughters, Sabrina Aubrie of Clarksville, TN, Jacklyn Dugan of Waterbury, with whom she shared her home, her brothers: John of Prospect, Robert, Dennis, and Gerald of Waterbury, and David of Prospect, her sisters, Sheila Patrick, of Waterbury, Diane DeVit of Prospect and Virginia Feliciano of Waterbury, as well as her grandchildren Camrin John, Madison Aubrie, and Cobe Dugan. She is predeceased by her brother, Donald Dugan.

Michael "Bernie" Thompson - February 09, 1922 - November 26, 2012

Waterbury – Mr. Michael B. “Bernie” Thompson, age 90, of Windy Dr, Waterbury, died Monday, November 26, 2012, at Saint Mary’s Hospital after an extended illness. He was the devoted widower of Arlene (Humiston) Thompson to whom he shared 60 years of marriage with, until her passing in April of 2004.
Mr. Thompson was born February 9th 1922 in Waterbury CT, the son of the late Michael and Honora “Nora” (Dowling) Thompson. He was educated in local schools before enlisting with the US Army where he proudly served his country during WWII. After his discharge from the service, he worked as a foreman at Mattatuck Manufacturing for many years before his retirement in 1985. As a young man, Bernie enjoyed playing baseball in Hamilton Park and was offered a draft position with the former New York Dodger’s but his commitment to his family and the families strong work ethic left him with an easy decision to turn down the offer. He was a member of the Waterbury Knights of Columbus, Sheridan Council #24 and enjoyed playing golf with the organization. He also served as an usher at Saints Peter and Paul Church for over 45 years where he was a parishioner and member of the Parish Council. Bernie also loved to spend time with his family especially his granddaughter whom he enjoyed coaching at little league baseball.
Among his survivors are his two sons, Dennis M. Thompson of Waterbury and Kevin E. Thompson of Forest Hills, NY and his former wife Barbara and his granddaughter Mandy of Wolcott, CT. He is predeceased by his two brothers, William F., and John J. (Jack) Thompson, and his sister, Margaret “Peg” Greggis. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews spread throughout the country.
The Thompson family would like to acknowledge the VNA Health Care of Waterbury for all the assistance and support they provided to Bernie and his family during his illness. In addition, they would like to offer special thanks to Bernie’s aides Kenia Vasquez, and Christina Gil-DosSantos for all the care they provided. Middlebury - Mrs. Patricia (McLaughlin) Devino, age 70, of Middlebury, died unexpectedly on Sunday November, 25 2012 at Saint Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of Ralph Devino. Mrs. Devino was born August 7, 1942 in Waterbury CT, the daughter of the late William B. and Margaret (Leary) McLaughlin. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Sacred Heart High School prior to receiving her Bachelors of Arts from the University of Connecticut. She spent many years as a teacher at Saint Margaret’s School and Trinity School, in Waterbury. Patricia was passionate about teaching and helping children and loved to mentor them. She also served on the Waterbury Board of Education for 11 years during the Bergin administration. Later she became a secretary and treasurer for her husband’s realty businesses; A&R Realty of Middlebury as well as RJ Devino Inc, and Waterbury Petroleum. She was an avid animal lover and enjoyed reading, and watching television, as well as taking family trips especially when the family would travel together to Disney World in Florida. She was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and the fact that she had obtained dual citizenship in Ireland. What always made Patricia the happiest was spending time with her family, making sure that everyone would laugh, have fun, and enjoy one another’s company. Pat also looked forward to her many “girls dinner night” when she would gather with her friends and enjoy a meal, friendship, and laughter. She was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church
Besides her husband Ralph of 51years Patricia is survived by her sons; Michael Devino, and William Devino of Middlebury, her daughters, Monica Devino-Donofrio and her husband Steven of Shelton, Susan Devino-Moriarty and her husband Michael of Waterbury, Kathryn Harnish and her husband George of Middlebury and Patricia Hall and her husband David of Orange. Her brothers James McLaughlin, of Kansas, Kevin McLaughlin, of Bethlehem, her sister Sheila Post, of Atlanta, GA and her six grandchildren and great granddaughter as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son, Paul Devino, and her brothers William J. and Timothy McLaughlin, as well as her sister Catherine McKenna, and her uncle, Monsignor James Leary.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Devino will be held on Friday, November 30th 2012 at 10:00a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church,182 Robbins Street Waterbury to Celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial. George was born June 22nd 1985 in Lebanon, the beloved son of Nicholas and Hayat (Antoun) Abouanni of Waterbury. George emigrated to the United States with his family at the age of three and was a graduate of Crosby High School class of 2004. He worked in the shipping and receiving department for G.I.& J Produce in New Haven for the past several years and was looking forward to the anticipated birth of his son. He was a member of the EHDEN Lebanese American Club and a parishioner of Our Lady of Lebanon Church. George was a devoted Dallas Cowboy fan and enjoyed playing and watching football, he also enjoyed being the family handy man and was always willing to help friends or family members with projects of any size.
Besides his parents, George is survived by his sister, Jessica Abouanni of Waterbury, and his fiancé Yvelisse Echevarria., as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. .
Funeral services for Mr. Abouanni will held Saturday, December 1st, 2012 at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church, 8 East Mountain Rd. at 10:00am to celebrate a Service of the Holy Mysteries of Christian Burial. Mrs. Daniels was born December 3rd 1926 in Waterbury, CT the daughter of the late John J. and Estelle (Miller) Fahy. She was a graduate of Wilby High School Class of 1943 and attended Post Junior College. She worked as a Payroll Clerk at Timex Corporation for many years before her retirement and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Among her survivors are her sons, Paul A. Daniels of Billings MT; Thomas and Mark Daniels, both of Waterbury, her daughter, Joan Wordell of Hudson MA., twelve grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Susan K. Martin, her brothers, John Fahy Jr and Francis M. Fahy, and her sisters, Lillian Viola, and Marjorie Pierce.

Mrs. Derry was born February 23rd 1922 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late John F. & Margaret (Conway) Murphy. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School and received her associate’s degree in business management from Post College. She worked as a secretary for CL&P for approximately five years before getting married and becoming a loving and dedicated homemaker. She enjoyed reading, and traveling, especially throughout the United States and Canada.
Among her survivors are several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband of 46 years she is also predeceased by her son, David Derry and her sister in-law Arline Brennan.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Derry will be held on Friday, October 19th 2012 at 10:30am at Saints Peter and Paul Church 67 Southmayd Rd. Waterbury Mrs. Nora T. O’Toole - age 92, of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday October 9th 2012 at the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville Florida while vacationing with her family. She was the widow of Leo F. O’Toole.
Mrs. O’Toole was born April 11th 1920 in Waterbury, CT the daughter of the late James J. and Mary Anne (O’Sullivan) O’Connor. She attended local schools and moved to Angola, Indiana where her husband Leo, was a student of Mechanical Engineering at Tri-State University. Nora worked at Tri-State as a Library Assistant. She returned to Waterbury with her husband and was employed as the Credit Manager of the former Waterbury Buckle Company until her retirement. She volunteered her time as a pianist for local nursing homes and was a member of the Waterbury Naturalist Club and the Association of Mancan Helpers. She was a longtime parishioner of Saint Anthony Church in Prospect.
Among her survivors are a niece, Marianne T. Klein, of Bolton, her nephews Randy Klein and his wife Linda of Clinton, CT John Klein and his wife France of Montreal Canada, Clayton Klein of Manchester, Robert Cipriano and his wife Nancy and Richard Cipriano and his wife Cynthia both of Prospect, and a sister-in-law, Loretta Accetura of Bristol, and numerous grand nieces, nephews and great grand nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by two sisters, Helen M. Cipriano and Kathleen Klein, her sister in-law, Dorothy O’Keefe as well as three brothers; Joseph, Patrick, and Daniel P. O’Connor. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. O’Toole may be made to the charity of the donors’ choice.

Andrea was born March 6th 1951 in Waterbury Ct the daughter of the late Charles W. Vaughan Jr. and Stephanie (Rinaldi) Vaughan. She was raised in Waterbury and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and received her bachelors in nursing from Salve Regina University in Rhode Island and worked as a neonatal nurse at the Women’s and Infants hospital in Providence where she served as the union steward for several years. She also worked at John Dempsey Hospital University of Connecticut in Farmington Neonatal unit before her retirement.
Andrea was very active in politics and social affairs and was a staunch democrat. She enjoyed golfing and was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Ft. Myers FL and also attended The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury.
Among her survivors are her brothers Charles W. Vaughan III and Douglas S. Vaughan of Waterbury and several beloved nieces and a nephew, Lauren, Alexa, Katherine, Scott, Rachael, and Mackenzie Vaughan as well as many friends in the Fort Myers area.

James was born in Waterbury, CT on January 23rd, 1945, the son of the late Homer O. and Kathleen (Reilly) LeBeau. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, class of 1962, and graduated from Post College in 1964 before entering the Connecticut Army National Guard. He was discharged in 1982, with the rank of Staff Sgt and was decorated with many ribbons and awards. He was employed by the Department of Defense for forty years retiring from the US Naval Submarine Base Hospital in Groton, CT in 2005.
For over 40 years he served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and religious ed teacher. He also served as a 3rd Degree Knight, with the White Cross Council #13 Knights of Columbus in Norwich, CT. and was a member of the Wolcott VFW post 1979. Jim lived life to the fullest. His sense of humor and hearty laugh always lit up a room. He cherished time spent with his family and friends and celebrated life every day,
In addition to his wife, of 44 years he is survived by one daughter, Kathleen LeBeau and her fiancé Thomas McGrath of Norwich, twin sons, Christopher and his wife Wendy, of Wolcott, Gregory and his wife Anastasia, of Bridgeport, three grandchildren, Christopher, Alyssa, and Alexandria. His sister Mary Ellen LeBeau, of Woodbury, his brother in-law Thomas Hedman and his wife Patricia; as well as two special nieces, Kara Reynolds, and Maureen Buono. He is predeceased by his niece Marie Hedman.

Eleanor was born March 23rd 1924 in Waterbury CT, the daughter of the late Chester and Janina (Bobinski) Zembroski. She was a graduate of Wilby High School and worked as a secretary for Teamsters Local 677 for many years before her retirement. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, which she visited on many occasions and also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a dedicated parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church.
Among her survivors are her daughter, Nanda Pannone and her husband Gary Akerman of Wolcott, her brother, Dr. Chester Zembroski of Stamford, her three grandchildren Lenore Bruno, and Craig & Scott Pannone, as well as two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

WATERBURY Mr. Harold “Hal” George Andrew, age 78, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday August 30th at Saint Mary’s Hospital after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Gail (Cogswell) Andrew.
Hal was born January 10th 1934 in Waterbury, CT., the son of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Beech) Andrew. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and attended the Scovill Manufacturing Toolmaker Apprentice program prior to proudly serving his country in the US Army. After being honorably discharged from the service, Hal worked as a toolmaker for various manufacturing companies in the Greater Waterbury area including Timex, Scovill Manufacturing, Winchester Electronics, as well as Sikorsky Aircraft and retired in 1999. Hal was an avid sports fan and a die hard New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed golfing and skiing and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was always happiest while surrounded by his loving family.
Besides his wife Gail of 57 years, Hal is survived by his two children, David Andrew of Waterbury, and Catherine Savarese and her husband Jeffrey of Prospect, his two grandchildren Lucas and Maryn Savarese, many nieces and nephews and his faithful and beloved Boston Terrier “Terri”. He is predeceased by his sister Florence McGovern. She worked for many years as the Accounts Payable Manager and Worths Dept Store and later in her career she worked for Dr. and Mrs. Claire Whalley in their many endeavors. Marion was a lover of the arts, particularly opera and was an avid traveler however her most cherished time was when surrounded by her loving family, especially her grandchildren. She was a parishioner of SS Peter & Paul Church.
Besides her devoted husband of 58 years, Marion leaves her two sons, John Moriarty and his wife Theodora of San Diego CA and Jeffrey Moriarty and his wife Pamela of Branford and her two beloved grandchildren, Leah and Connor John Moriarty. She also leaves her sister, Mrs. Geraldine Reardon of Waterbury and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Gloria Campbell. Dennis enjoyed playing cribbage, camping, weekend trips with Janice that had no particular destination, crossword puzzles with his son Daniel and was an avid Red Sox fan.
Besides his wife of 28 years, he leaves six sons, Kevin Hayes and his wife Donna of Bristol, Christopher Hayes of West Haven, Dan Collins of Waterbury, Michael Collins and his wife Tina of Waterbury, Stephen Collins of Waterbury, Kevin Collins and his wife Kristin of Southington, a daughter Carolyn Smith and her husband Mike of Waterbury, nine grandchildren, one great grand son, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Lucky.
