Obituary Preview: Luella Ann Rieger, age 84, entered Heaven’s gates peacefully on November 6, 2021. She was born in Deer River, Minnesota, on December 29, 1936, to Edwin and Lena (Adams) Cleveland. Luella graduated from Deer River High School. After graduation, she moved to St. Paul, at which time she worked for Fanny Farmer Candy. After returning to northern Minnesota, Luella married the love of her life, Hugh Rieger, in 1959 in Northome, Minnesota. Together they built a beautiful family and successful farming, logging, and trucking business. She is a devoted wife, loving mother, and caring grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, most especially over the holidays. Luella will be remembered for her remarkable caramel roles, her generosity, her kindness, her warmth, her deep love for her family & anyone that was blessed to know her. To describe Luella would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colors of a rainbow. Mighty and magnificent.
Luella was predeceased in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Hugh Rieger; her parents Edwin (Burney) and Lena Cleveland; her sister Bertha; and brothers, Donald and Edwin. Luella is survived by her sons Mike (Jerelyn) Rieger and Brian Rieger, both of Northome, MN; daughters, Debra (Steve) Meek; Jeannette (Tony) Rieger-Borer; Christine (Gene) Weimer; and Susan (Mike) Peterson; She is also survived by her ten grandchildren, Eric, Adam (Abby), Mark (Kendra Janorschke), Bailey (Chris Bigalk), Christopher, Kaitlyn, Emma, Ben, Tyler, and Nathan. She also has two great-grandchildren, Skyler and Alec, and her brother, Rodney (Shirley) Cleveland.   A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Squaw Lake, MN. A visitation will be held at the church at 10:00 a.m. before the services. Burial will be held at Kinghurst Township cemetery, followed by a gathering at Grattan Town Hall.
We truly never learned what the words “I miss you” were until we reached for your hand, and it wasn’t there. Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and very dear.

Obituary Preview: Viola “PeeWee” Marie (Mayo) Cook, age 88, of Bigfork, MN passed away Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the Aspen Circle Unit at Bigfork Valley Hospital.  A graveside service will be held in the Lakeview Cemetery in Bigfork at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2021 with Pastor Ben Buchanan officiating.
Viola Mayo was born January 7, 1933 in Deer River, MN the daughter of Thomas and Bertha (Nolette) Mayo.  She graduated from Deer River High School in 1951.  PeeWee married the love of her life, Howard Cook, Jr. on January 27, 1951.  PeeWee was the oldest of 10 children and together PeeWee and Howards raised four children.
PeeWee loved being with family especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed being a caretaker to anyone who needed her.  Her life revolved around family and she thrived around family events.  She loved to cook, bake and usher with Howard in the Bigfork Lutheran Church.  She also enjoyed planting trees in the spring and cutting boughs in the fall.  PeeWee was a member of the Women’s Veteran Auxiliary and loved being the top seller of poppies.
PeeWee is survived by her four children, Gwen (Matt) Ballard, Gale (Chuck) Pearson, Gerri (Greg) Bertram and Howard (Tari) Cook III; her brother, Don (Peg) Mayo;  sisters, Carol (Howard) Thompson and Cathy Parks; eleven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by parents; her husband, Howard; six siblings, James, Vernon, Bill, Tom and Dick. Mayo and Evelyn Lee; two great-grandsons, Logan Pearson and Caleb Flateland; and one great-granddaughter, Haley Flateland.
Memorials are preferred to the Bigfork Community Church.

Obituary Preview: Alan Bruce Cleveland, age 65, passed away on November 8, 2019, at Grand Village in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
Al was born on January 26, 1954, in Minneapolis MN.  He grew up in Richfield, the middle child of Bill and Evelyn Cleveland. He served in the US Army from 1972 to 1975. He and Diane, his wife of 34 years, lived many years in the Elk River area until Diane passed away in 2007.  Al then moved to the Effie area.  In 2013, he married Linda Jacobson and together they had many friends in the Effie area.
Al loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and wrenching on small engines.  He enjoyed nature and birdwatching and fulfilled his dream to live in the north country during retirement. He was a member of the American Legion in Effie and served on the Color Guard in the Bigfork/Effie area.
Al was preceded in death by his father Bill, his wife Diane, and granddaughter Elyce.  He is survived by his wife Linda Jacobson; children, Nicole Ose (Keven) and Adam Cleveland; step-children, Jason Riggs and Holly McMan; five granddaughters and six step-grandchildren; his mother, Evelyn Cleveland of Minneapolis; siblings Dave (Kathy) Cleveland, Rena (Frank) Cleveland, Martha (Tom) Venema, and Tom (Kim) Cleveland, all of the Minneapolis area.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 16, at 11:00 am at Carroll Funeral Home in Bigfork, MN.  Full military honors accorded by the Effie American Legion. Arrangements made by Carroll Funeral Home of Bigfork, MN.
A second Memorial Service in Minneapolis will be held at a later date.  Details forthcoming.

He also owned and operated Ole’s Car Wash. Donald enjoyed watching his Minnesota sports teams, He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play as they grew up.

Deloria loved her bingo, tri-domino’s, gardening, hummingbirds, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, also the loving staff at Bigfork Valley Nursing Home.
