Obituary Preview: Patricia Ann Wilcox (nee Knowles) "Patty", aged 74, of Corning, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 25, 2024. She was born May 29, 1949 in Corning, NY to Clarence and Dorothy Knowles (nee Finch). Patricia married the love of her life, David Richard Wilcox, on July 28, 1984 in Corning, NY. They were married for 39 wonderful years and would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this July.
Patricia dedicated 36 years of her life as a nurses' aide at Corning Hospital before an injury led her into retirement in 2006.
Patricia's interests extended beyond her career as she enjoyed hobbies such as Plastic Canvas, Arts and Crafts, and Puzzles. Her creativity and attention to detail were evident in these pastimes, reflecting her gentle and meticulous nature.
Patricia will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her husband, David Wilcox, her daughters Wanda Brouneus and Ellen Wilcox, her grandsons DJ Brouneus, Daniel Brouneus, Cody Brouneus, and Nikolas Hazelwood, her great-grandchildren Riot Brouneus and Charlotte Brouneus, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Richard "Dickie," Clark, Robert "Bobby" Andrews, Shirley Fox, Floyd "Skip" Knowles, Clarence Knowles, and Leroy Knowles, and her daughter Beth Ann Knowles.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 East Pulteney Street on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. A graveside service will follow at West Hill Cemetery at 1:00 pm.

Obituary Preview: Parker Lee Sammons, 4 months, of Addison, NY passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Born on December 15, 2023 in Elmira, NY, he was the son of Brittany N. Wagner and Jared L. Sammons.
Parker may have been tiny, but he had a big personality. He was the happiest baby whose many nicknames included “the best boy.” He was a momma's boy who loved to snuggle. He loved baths, watching the dancing fruit, and momma’s kisses. Parker was loved by everyone he met. His smile was contagious and his snuggles were therapeutic. His older siblings adored everything about him. His absence leaves a giant hole in so many lives. 4 months was not enough time with our Punker Butt.
Parker is remembered by his mother, Brittany Wagner of Addison; his father, Jared Sammons of Gilbert, WV; sister, Riley McCaig; brothers: Easton and Greyson McCaig; maternal grandmother, Tina Tompkins of Addison, NY; paternal grandparents: Betty (Arthur) Sammons of Gilbert, WV; great grandmother, Joy McChesney of Addison, NY; aunts and uncles: Breanna Tompkins, Brandon (Cynthia) Tompkins, Jeremy (Elisabeth) Newell, Chelsea Sammons; many great aunts, great uncles, cousins; and his special childcare giver, Sheena Mayo.
Parker was predeceased by his great grandfather, Dan Mortimer; great grandmother, Kathleen Sammons, and great great grandmother, Phyllis Belcher.

Inas Ruby Hall - March 17, 1929 - April 17, 2024

Obituary Preview: Inas Ruby Hall, age 95 went home into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 17, 2024. She was born March 17,1929, in Dansville, NY, the daughter of Earnest and Inas (Hartman) Babcock.
Growing up in the country, she thrived on fresh air and the company of animals. The family goats and hunting dogs became more than just pets; they were her cherished playmates. In 1946, at the age of 17 with her mother's consent, she married Lloyd Byran Hall Jr. Together they built their home on Clark St. Ext. in Painted Post, NY, where they lived until 1975 when they moved to Beaver Dams, NY.
She was a homemaker for most of her life. Enjoying her time gardening and canning, especially those things that she grew herself. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed baking, where she would experiment with making new things.
For a time, she worked a couple of jobs outside the home, including at Lewis Laundry in Riverside and Westinghouse in Bath. This was during a challenging time when her husband faced winter layoffs, and she stepped up to support the family, ensuring they kept their home. She loved her family wholeheartedly and was always there for her children and treated them all equally.
She loved the Lord Jesus and will be lovingly remembered as a soul winner and prayer warrior. Ruby was a dedicated member of Grace Baptist Church in Beaver Valley, NY for many years, where she felt the calling to pray for and correspond with missionaries. She was a Sunday School teacher, Nursery worker, sang in the choir and made cookies for the church bus and special occasions for the children. She enjoyed spending time in church worshiping the Lord and with her church family.
She was truly a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
Special friends Charlotte Rarrick, Juda Rhode, Leah Trank and Mary Solomon.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Byran Hall Jr. of 53 years, son Lloyd Byran Hall III; brothers: Celon, Leonard; sisters: Leona, Roselia, Adaline, Marie, along with several step-brothers and step-sisters, all from Dansville, NY.
She is survived by her four children: Daniel Hall (Gloria) of Canaseraga, NY, Lois Scott (David) of Corning, NY, Randy Hall (Terry) of Friendship, NY, Penny Sherwood (Gary) of Addison, NY. Also considered family, Tracy Singh, significant other of her predeceased son Lloyd Hall.
She has 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She will be profoundly missed by her family and the countless other lives she touched with her radiant smile. We are eternally blessed for the years we have had with her.
Family and friends are invited to call at Grace Baptist Church, 2032 Chambers Rd, Beaver Dams, NY 14812 on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 11:00am-1:00pm. A funeral service will follow with Rev. David Maulucci officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Coopers Plains Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Inas Ruby Hall on August 10, 2024 starting at 3:00pm at the residence of Gary and Penny Sherwood.
Memorial donations can be directed to Grace Baptist Church in memory of Inas.

Obituary Preview: Edward Clarence Bassett Jr, age 74, of Hornby, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Bath VA Medical Center. He was born on November 3, 1949 in Corning, the son of the late Edward and Mildred (Lane) Bassett Sr.
Ed was a graduate of Corning Painted Post West High school class of 1968. He worked at Agway in Big Flats before getting drafted in the US Army to serve in Vietnam. He served as a combat engineer with the 1st CAV Division. After his service he returned to Agway for a number of years. Ed then was the owner and operator of E & E Trucking. He served as Town of Hornby court clerk for over 20 years.
Ed took great pride in being a veteran and the bond service members shared. He volunteered countless hours to numerous organizations.
He loved his family and his pets. Ed enjoyed cooking, the outdoors, and The New York Yankees.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Donna Lynn Wexell, son, Edward E. (Audrey) Bassett of Addison, daughter, Bridgett Conlin of Watertown, and grandchildren, Kayla, Brandon, Dakota, and Chris.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service service at Hillside Cemetery in Dundee on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:00 am. Military honors will be accorded. Raymond loved fishing, hunting, the New York Yankees and NASCAR. He was employed by the Local 112 in Elmira.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Lori, children, Michelle (Roger) Freas, Amanda Markell, and Janelle (Andrew Harper) Allington, grandsons, Kyler and Drake Freas, whom he was extremely proud of, and many friends that he considered to be family.
It was Raymond's wish that there be no formal services. A private celebration of Raymond's life will take place at the convenience of the family.

In his free time, Robert will be remembered for his love of deer and turkey hunting. Robert loved swinging on his porch and waving at the cars driving by. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family and numerous friends.

She was born to Edward and Mary (Grier) Davis in Corning, NY on November 21, 1942, spending her entire life in Corning and the surrounding areas. She worked as a registered nurse at the Bath VA. After several years of being a single mom, she met and married her Prince Charming, Bruce D. Davis on January 22, 1982. Together they had five children, Lloyd "Ron" Ruggles, (predeceased) (Theresa) of Corning, NY, Raymond "Scott" Ruggles (Stacey) of Estill Springs, TN, Karen Ruggles-Stamp of Rochester, NY, Susan Davis of Lindley, NY, and Brian Davis (Sara) of Lindley, NY. There are ten grandchildren, Joshua, Heather, Rian, Kilee, Jonathan, Derek, Erica, Jeffrey, Nicholas, and Isaac, five great grandchildren, Caleb, Ashlynn, Nateleigh, Karlee, and Ezra. Tressa has two brothers, Edward Davis (Sylvia) of Painted Post, NY and Steven Davis of Bradford, NY, three sisters, Joan Fleming of Bath, NY, Beverly Soper of Corning, NY, and infant sister, Marylynn Davis (predeceased)
For more than 35 years Tressa attended the Assembly of God Church where she was a member and served on the board. She was very involved with Royal Rangers which is equivalent to the Boy Scouts. Later in years she began attending Victory Highway Wesleyan Church. Tressa can easily be described as a Proverbs 31 woman. She cared, prayed, loved, she laughed, all the days of her life.
A private celebration of life will take place at the convenience of the family.

Theodore Ray Davis - August 06, 1949 - April 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: Theodore R. 'Ted' Davis, age 74 of Corning, NY passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Robert Packer Hospital. Born on August 6, 1949 in Corning, NY, he was the son of the late Bernard and Betty (Tongue) Davis.
Ted was a graduate of Corning Painted Post West High School, class of 1967. He began working for the A&P Plant as a line maintenance repairman before getting drafted into the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972. During his service, Ted worked as a 'tunnel rat' and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery. After his service he returned to Corning where he began working as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Hornby, retiring in 1992. After retiring from the town, Ted utilized his skills as a mechanic to work on various jobs.
Ted was passionate about all things military. He was a lifelong member of both the Corning VFW and the Campbell American Legion. Ted will be remembered as someone who was quiet, very independent and someone who never complained. His quiet nature made it hard to know what he was thinking, but his family knew that his love for his children was un-ending. He also had a love for nature and animals. He could be found outside, feeding the wildlife or tending to his garden. Friends and family will miss his willingness to help anyone in need.
Ted is survived by his daughter, Jodi (Ronny Thomas) Davis of Avoca, NY; son, John (Faith) Davis of Savona, NY; grandchildren: Brittney (Ryan) Morelock of Oklahoma, John (Amanda) Davis, Jr. of Arkansas, Rachelle and Emily Cieplik of Painted Post and Ryan Davis of Avoca; great grandchildren: Luna, Jasmen; sisters: Sandy Davis of Texas, Cheryl Skelly of Florida, Carol (Larry) Gillette of Campbell; brother, Ronald (Georgia-Ann) Davis of Hornby; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by his daughter, April Lynn Davis; grandson, Andrew Scott Davis; niece, Maria Gillette; and brother-in-law, Tom Skelly.

Born on December 13, 1949 in Corning, NY, he was the son of the late Gerald and Mary (Panyard) Murphy. Paul was a graduate of Corning East High School, and later earned his Bachelors Degree from Cornell University.
Paul was self employed as both a surrealist artist and exterior painter/colorist of Victorian homes (Painted Ladies). He gained national recognition when several of his painted ladies (most notably the Christmas House in Elmira NY) were featured in the book publication: America’s Painted Ladies, The Ultimate Celebration of our Victorians.
Paul is survived by long time partner, Diane Kelly; their son, Mitchell Murphy (Bethany White); step-daughter, Emily (Joseph) Donlon; step-grandchildren: John and Ella Donlon; and his brother, Timothy (Monica) Murphy. As well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by two brothers: Dennis Murphy and Gerald Murphy Jr.; his sisters: Judith White, and Sallie Dowd and his nephew, Lucas Murphy.

Obituary Preview: Andrea R. Coccho, age 93 of Painted Post, NY passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024 at home with her family by her side. She was born on November 22, 1930 in Tuscaloosa, AL to Rufus and Rebecca (Perdue) Baker.
She married Anthony Coccho in San Antonio, TX on September 30, 1955.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed flower gardening, along with cooking and baking for her family. Her greatest pride and joy after her children and grandson was her four legged friends.
Andrea is survived by her son: Anthony "Tony" (Rebecca) Coccho of Corning; grandson: Anthony "TJ" (Erin Kercher) Coccho III of Corning; great-grandchildren: Seth and Gracie, her four legged companions: Bo and Hope.
In addition to her parents, Andrea was predeceased by Anthony "Tony" Cochcho on August 20, 2011; and granddaughter Angel; siblings: Laventrice, Rufus "Buddy" Jr., and Philip.
Andrea will be laid to rest along side her husband in Bath National Cemetery in a private service. Carpenter's Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Thomas J. Daw - April 08, 1952 - March 24, 2024

Obituary Preview: Thomas J. Daw Jr., age 71 of Campbell, passed away on March 24, 2024, at Corning Hospital. He was born on April 8, 1952, in Rochester, NY, the son of Thomas J. and Esther Daw.
Tom is survived by his children: Tracy (Chris) Austin of Campbell, Thomas J. Daw III (Cheryl) of Corning, Chad (Patricia) Speicher of Campbell and Joshua Daw (Vicky) of Florida, as well as several grandchildren and sister Susan Eccleston of Campbell. Also, very special friends, Keith and Sandy Austin, Suzy and Shane Stacy, Pam and Danny Drum.
He was a graduate of Campbell High School. Tom had a love for all kinds of racing from his favorite drag racing to local dirt tracks and go cart races, he was always up to go to a car show, and music was a true passion whether listening, singing, or playing the drums. He played in the bands Country Feeling and The High Performance Band which was something he took great pride in.
Love him or hate him, Tom always beat to his own drum.
He retired from Philips Lighting in Bath. He was a proud member of the Campbell American Legion SAL.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 30 from 2:00pm-6:00pm at the Campbell American Legion. Those wishing to remember Tom may do so with a donation in his name to Meals on Wheels.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at The Corning Hospital Emergency Department for their outstanding care for both Tom and his family while he was a patient.

Obituary Preview: Cheryl Townsend, at the age of 62, of Corning, NY, passed from this life into the next on the 24th of March, 2024. She was surrounded by her family, who loved her dearly, as she peacefully concluded her earthly journey.
She is survived by her loving sons: Greg (Sarah) Townsend and Timothy (Toshia) Townsend; her brothers: Steve Pratt, Mike (Gloria) Pratt, Doug (Linda) Pratt, and Matt Pratt; her sisters: Melissa (Scott) Odell and Bonnie Quick. She also leaves behind her nieces: Hallie (Robbie), April, and Cynthia; nephews: Landyn, Benny, and Christopher; and her beloved grandchildren: Dalton (Deja), Robert, Alex, Shane, Kaleb, and Brylynn. Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, Jean and Robert O'Dell.
A graduate of Corning West High School, Cheryl's life was marked by a love for the simple joys—bingo nights, board games, and the shared laughter over card and dice games. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the daily challenge of crossword puzzles. Her generosity of spirit and readiness to assist others in any way she could will be remembered by all who We’re lucky enough to know her.
The family will forego a public memorial service and will instead gather for a private celebration of her life at a later date. They wish to express their gratitude for the sympathy and support extended to them during this time and suggest that those wishing to honor Cheryl's memory may make a charitable donation in her name, To anywhere of their choice.
Cheryl's gentle spirit and loving nature will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known her. As we reflect upon her passing, we are comforted by the thought that she is now at peace and reunited with her beloved parents. May we all find happiness in the memories we hold dear and strive to live with the same kindness that Cheryl exemplified throughout her life.

Terrie had a kind demeanor and beautiful soul, which led her to a passion for teaching and helping others. She graduated from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania with her teaching degree, dedicating her life to enriching her students’ lives. She taught for 30 years at the Addison Central School District where she retired in 2023.
Terrie always made time for the people in her life, both personal and professional. She would stay late at school for students and colleagues, and yet she still always found time to spend with loved ones. Terrie’s primary focus in life was her family and friends. She was very proud to be a grandma and loved her grandchildren dearly. Terrie adored watching her children become parents. She embraced the times when everyone was together and cherished the long-lasting memories they made. Terrie always had a soft spot for animals, particularly stray cats that wandered into her life. Her dogs would always come to love their new friends. If Terrie was not home, her and Pete would travel to see family out of town, go camping, attend concerts such as Gary Allan and Little Big Town, or simply explore the world together. An avid follower of Christ, Terrie was a communicant of St. Catherine’s Church.
She is survived by her husband, Peter Hynes; siblings: Mary Kathryn Mutchler, Carol (Mark) Miraglia, Thomas (Katherine) Nikirk, Christine (Earl) Sowell. Terrie’s loving children are Michael Martini, and Beckie (Michael) Wooldridge; and stepchildren: Michele (Raymond) Banach, Allison Hynes, Emily Hynes. Her grandchildren: Dakota Coughlin, Blaze Martini, Lucy Martini, Vivienne Banach, Tatum Banach, and Phoebe Wooldridge; and her loving pets: Golden Retriever Mollie, and cats Roxie and Angel. Terrie was predeceased by her father, Richard Beck; mother, Annabelle Beck; brother, Charles “Chuckie” Nikirk; and sister Diane Beck.
Family and friends are invited to call at Carpenter’s Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney Street, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm and again from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 9:00 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 155 State Street Corning, Fr. Patrick Connor officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place following the burial ceremony, at the VFW Post 524, 281 Baker Street Corning from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.

In her free time, Sharon will be remembered for her ability to make wonderful cakes. She enjoyed baking cakes; this was a hobby that will never be forgotten. Sharon enjoyed spending time with her cousin Donna mostly in the summertime traveling to watch Donna’s son Jay play at local establishments. Sharon was always offering to help in any type of situation to help raise money for friends or family, cook for benefits or just be there for support. She was an artist and had drawn wonderful pictures.
Sharon spent a lot of her life across the states. She was a bit of a gypsy you might say, But in the end she landed back in the same area she started in Corning, NY. Sharon battled breast cancer several years ago but unfortunately the cancer came back and took over.
Sharon is survived by daughter: Tammy Hivley of Elmira, grandson: Jacob Miller of Elmira; sister: Deborah (Rick) Ferguson of Grand Junction, CO, along with several nieces and nephews: Heath, Herby, and Brad Clark, Christina Levey, Brian Willett, and several great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sharon was predeceased by brothers Tom and Robert Clark.

He married Vera Marie Wetmore on July 15, 1950 at Grace Methodist Church in Corning. He was predeceased by Vera Marie on August 3, 2017.
He was employed by Corning Glass Works for 42 years. Dick worked in various departments and retired in 1986, from the Steuben Factory. He supervised gatherers, gaffers, polishers, and engravers in the Steuben blowing room and he signed finished Steuben pieces or rejected them if flawed. In addition to working for Corning Glass, he had an excavating/contracting business, BeGell & Wilson, General Contractors. He also enjoyed hunting deer and rabbits.
Richard is survived by his three daughters: Janice (Thomas) Wolff of Orchard Park, Nancy (Kenneth) VanEtten of Corning, Priscilla (Michael) McLane of Sewell, NJ; brother: Ronald (Kathy) BeGell; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was predeceased by his son, Richard LaClair BeGell III, and
his sister, Janet BeGell Wilson.

Obituary Preview: Timothy Allen “Tim” Retterer, known affectionately as Grandpa Tim, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on January 7, 1955, in Jamestown, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Craig and Rebecca (Hayes) Retterer.
Tim grew up in Beaver Dams, New York, and attended Corning West High School, graduating in 1973. He was a member of the West High basketball team and earned the nickname “Timbo” from his teammates as he would foul out 10 minutes into every game. During high school, Tim worked for Pete Hatch at the Circle H Golf Course, where he quickly developed a lifelong love for the game of golf.
Following graduation, Tim furthered his education at trade school and then went on to work as a welder for Ward LaFrance and Prudential Insurance Co., before opening his own business. He proudly owned and operated Retterer and Sons Janitorial for 46 years and was well known for a meticulous dedication to his craft and service to the community. Tim was a mentor to many and found joy in seeing his friends and family succeed in life and celebrating their achievements.
Tim was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and witty sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and kind. He will be remembered for all the heart he shared with his family and friends. He truly loved each of them, and those who knew him, knew it.
Tim’s granddaughters were the light of his life, and he cherished their close relationship. There was never a day that went by he didn't brag about how unendingly proud he was of them. As a doting grandpa, he was a fixture at Delaney’s golf tournaments – sometimes as her official caddy – and in the front row of Harper’s dance recitals. He loved to spend time with them on the golf course, swimming in their pool, and having sleepovers.
Tim is survived by his daughter, Kelly Abel, and her mother, Deborah Retterer; granddaughters, Delaney and Harper Abel; sister, Patricia (Paul) Rose; brother, Stephen (Cindy) Retterer; and several nieces and nephews. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and brother, and his family was the cornerstone of his life.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Retterer; sister, Carol Conklin; nephew, Curtis Schmidt; and dear family friend, Kimberly Trank.
Visitation will be held for family and friends to pay their respects and share memories of Tim on Friday, March 22, from 4-6 p.m. at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney Street, Corning. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Beaver Dams Cemetery, Beaver Dams Road, Beaver Dams, New York.

Linda had a great sense of humor, warm heart and kind nature. If someone needed help, she helped. In retirement she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed many trips to Myrtle Beach and Disney World when the children were younger. She was very proud of her grandchildren. Linda also loved her dogs and cats and talked often of missing them after they passed. She supported many pet rescues. Linda loved meeting up with her friends for cards. Many good and fun times were had. Linda will be greatly missed by those of us still in this world, but will rejoice with her parents and sisters and loved ones already in Heaven.
Linda is survived by her loving husband, Maynard K. Cornell of Campbell; children: Lynette (Maggie Higgin) Cornell and Michael (Donald Natale) Cornell; grandchildren: James, Katherine and Brian Cornell; and several nieces and nephews.
