Obituary Preview: Richard P. Wassell, 80, lifelong Windsor resident, husband for over 46 years of Elsie (Mitchell) Wassell, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2021.

Richard was born in Hartford, son of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Brooks) Wassell. He attended Windsor High School, worked on his family’s farm, and a variety of other jobs, before joining Combustion Engineering in the Maintenance Department, retiring after 32 years of service.

Richard was a loving husband, father, and Poppy. His family will fondly remember him as a private man who was extremely hardworking and had a good sense of humor, that some might say was "dry." He was very meticulous about his vegetable garden and spent a lot of time in the summer canning his vegetables and sharing with his neighbors and friends. Richard was known to have made the best pickles. He loved to work around the house and take care of his Dodge Ram truck. He also loved to fish, especially ice fishing, and would go most every weekend. He was an avid Daily Numbers player, enjoyed going to the casinos and playing the slot machines, and loved a glass or two of "terrible" Port Wine.

Richard was a member of the Windsor Senior Center and volunteered his time with the Meals on Wheels Program in Windsor.

In addition to his wife, Elsie, he is survived by his children, Richard E. Wassell of Springfield, MA, and Darlene D. Bonyeau of Westfield, MA; his step-daughters, Jean Wheeler and her husband Pat of Ft. Worth, TX, and Barbara Snyder and her husband Mike of West Hartford; his step-grandchildren, Benjamin Snyder, Ariella Snyder, and Aaron Snyder; his brothers, Stanley Wassell and Donald Wassell; his sisters, Judy Olson and Barbara Wassell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Steven Richard Bonyeau; his brothers, Joseph, Edward, Francis, Jackie, David, Robert, Freddy, and Michael Wassell; and his sisters, Margaret Blajda and Shirley Wassell.

His family will receive friends on Monday, April 5, 10 a.m.-12 Noon, at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, with a Prayer Service, 12 Noon. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Poquonock.

Veronica was born and raised in Manchester, Jamaica, and was the daughter of Rue Gordon and Amy (Bennett) Williams. She attended Mizpah Primary School and Excelsior High School in Manchester, Jamaica, and immigrated to the United States in 1969. She graduated from Hartford High School, received her Associates Degree from Greater Hartford Community College, and earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Central Connecticut State University. While attending school, she was employed at the Hartford Insurance Group for many years. After graduation, Veronica accepted a position with the State of Connecticut, Department of Labor, as an Office Assistant and worked her way up to a Senior Customer Service Representative, retiring after over 40 years of service.

Veronica was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and dear friend. She will truly be missed by all who knew her. Her family will lovingly remember her as a very generous, kind-hearted, and loving spirit who loved her family more than anything. She made sure she called her family every day, always had kind and caring words to say about everyone, and thought about others before herself. Veronica was selfless and whatever she owned, she would give freely without asking for anything in return. She would always say, "Half of mine is half of yours." Veronica would light up a room simply by walking into it, had a beautiful smile, and an infectious laugh that just made you want to laugh as well. She had a presence about her and to know her was to love her. You literally could not help yourself.

Veronica was a member of St. Joseph Church and Trinity Episcopal Church, both in Hartford. She loved the Lord and was truly a gift to her family and church family. Veronica was one of those people that just knew everyone and could tell where you were from just by your accent. She was the family historian and could tell you all about everyone in her family. She also made sure she wrote everything down about her family so that they would remember and celebrate their past.

Veronica was very feisty and loved to dance, ice skate, roller skate, and have fun. She had a passion for collecting antiques and had a very large and eclectic doll collection. Veronica loved jewelry, had very high end taste in clothing and shoes, and was always dressed "to the nines." She also enjoyed listening to Old School Reggae and R&B, especially in the car.

In addition to her father, Rue Gordon and his wife Daphne of Jamaica; and her mother, Amy Williams of Hartford, Veronica is survived by her daughter, Karen L. Gordon and her grandson, Ethan K. Gordon, both of New Britain; her siblings, Beryl Tomlinson and her husband Derval of Hartford, Aulvin Bennett and his wife Viviene of Hartford, Selvin Williams of England, Ruby Gordon of England, Cynthia Gordon of England, Tony Gordon and family of Jamaica, Winston Gordon of England, Jennifer Bennett of Jamaica, Paul Williams of Hartford, Olive Tronchin and her husband Irwin of Windsor, and David Williams and his wife Deann of Chantilly, VA, nieces, Portia Gray, Amanda Tronchin, and SharonShay Hudson; nephew, Albert Haynes, great nephews, ElijahSamuel Warner, Jaden Veal, and Brandon Williams; great-nieces, AmyElizabeth Dicks and Breanna Williams; a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends; and other families from England, Canada, and Germany.

She was predeceased by her brother, Errol Gordon.

Sinai Hospital. She then transitioned into long-term care at Mountain View Nursing Home, Windsor CT and later as Director of Nursing, Silver Lane Pavilion, East Hartford, CT. Her career took her to Aetna Inc. as a Medicare Supervisor and then Regional Medicare Director for Vencor Inc. coming back to where she started at Mountain View Nursing Home she retired in 1998. She will be remembered for her dedication to the elderly, devoted love of her friends and family and her sassy yet loving sense of humor. All who knew her will truly miss her.

Predeceased by her first husband, Jack Leonard and her second husband Charles Townsend Sr., MaryAnn is survived by daughters, Laura Leonard Estan and Brenda L. Leonard; granddaughters, Heather Nugent and her husband Daniel and Sara K. Estan; and her great-grandson, Jack Nugent. Stepson, Charles Townsend Jr. and his wife Laura, stepdaughter, Evelyn Casanelli and her husband Michael, and several nieces and nephews. Her twelve siblings predeceased her. The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation to MaryAnn's caregivers for the compassion and care they provided, especially Virginia, Kim, and Amaryllis.
