Obituary Preview: William J. Spring Sr., 67, of Erie, passed away Tuesday April 12, 2022 on his birthday at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Ridgway, PA on April 12, 1955 son of the late William E. and Mary Ann Lyons Spring. Bill was a graduate of Venango Christian High School Class of 1973, and Gannon College Class of 1977.  He began his career with Quaker State and retired from Pennzoil Co. as a Branch Manager.  He was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Harborcreek, a member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in the Cursillo Movement.  Bill spent many years coaching soccer and was a mentor to many young athletes including his four devoted sons.  Some of Bill's favorite memories with the soccer teams and his fellow coaches include traveling to tournaments in Pittsburgh, Virginia Beach and Penn State. Bill is lovingly survived by his wife Anne Marie Slomski Spring, his sons William J. Spring Jr. (Kayla), Nicholas A. Spring (Alena), Adam A. Spring (Lauren) and Daniel J. Spring  (Malory), and his grandchildren Olivia Anne, Henrik William and Nolan Francis. He is further survived  by his sisters Mary Ellen Keown, Patti Verno (Greg) and Gloria Molella (Dave) and his brother Richard "Rip" Polesky and many nieces and nephews who loved their "LB" dearly.  Also survived by his dear cousins Joyce and Dick Billingsley. Family and friends may call at Our Lady of Mercy Church  on Monday April 25, 2022 from 11a.m. until the time of the Funeral  Mass there at 1p.m  The Church is located at 837 Bartlett Road Harborcreek.. She was born in Erie on January 17, 1925, daughter of the late John and Sophie Rejniak Murzynski. Irene was a retired employee of General Electric after 37 years of service.  She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, the Rosary Society, Polish Falcons Nest 123 and  the GE Quarter Century Club.  She enjoyed bowling and playing cards.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter Krol, brother Edward Murzynski, son-in-law Tom Brewer and daughter-in-law Donna Krol. Survivors include her daughter Sandra Ann Brewer Maloney (Brad), her sons John, David and Tom Krol, grandchildren Jennifer, David, Jamie and Megan(Jose), and great grandchildren, Jeremy, Anthony, Christopher, Jasmine, Bella, Vanessa, Olivia, Aubriana, Ella and Emma. "Bud" Gonser, 95, a resident of the PA Soldiers & Sailors Home passed away there Saturday March 26, 2022   He was born in Erie on December 30, 1926 son of the late Ludwig and Vera Stuber Gonser.   Edwin's first job was at Herman's Cafe at the age of 14.  He graduated from Academy High School in 1945.  He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.  He was stationed in Croft S.C, Fort Benning GA, and Regensburg Germany,  Edwin was the owner of Gonser Garage having worked with his Dad there from 1946-1991.  He then worked at Jabe Construction from 1994-2013.  He enjoyed working on cars with his friends, having built his own car.    He served as past President, Vice -President and Captain of the Team Grandpa's Bowling League.  Bud also served as past President and was a Board member of the Sunflower Club and also was a member of the P.N.A. Club. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and bingo,   Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Katherine Pancerev Gonser, his son Gary Gonser, sister Vera Froess, brother Paul Gonser and step-mother Georgia.   Survivors include his daughter Pam Holland (Louie), daughter-in-law Kathleen Gonser, grandchildren, Heidi Albertie (Treevy), Gretchen Wolfe (Dewey), Louie Holland Jr., Philip Pinzok (Jenn), Matthew Pinzok (Beth), great grandchildren, Deej, Demi, Daxton, Gavin, Lilly, Eli and Emily, and step-daughters Sandy Gordon (Tom), Debi Dekiel (Stan) and Becky Herman (Dave).   No calling hours were observed. Obituary Preview: Pamela Sylvia Irvine Leszek, 65, of Erie passed away on Friday March 18, 2022 at home with her husband Zeke and pit bull Josie by her side.  She was born to Joyce Elaine Irvine on July 23, 1956  She was born and raised on the lower East side of Erie.  She was very proud of her Scottish heritage and the Irvines and Taylors immigrating in the 1700's.    Besides her mother, she was preceded in death by two nieces Katie Irvine and Mary Ellen Bujnoski. , brothers-in-law Les Leszek, Ed Geiza and Bill Bujnoski and in laws John and Martha Leszek.   Pam is survived by her loving husband of 41 years Stephen P. "Zeke" Leszek, her brother Terry, sister Debby (Carl), brother Rick (Laurie), John Maloney Jr. who was like a son, sisters-in-law Joyce Bujnoski, Marie Leszek, Marie Geiza, brothers-in law through much love and respect Don Plonski wife Mary AKA sister-in-law and Chuck Dunar.  Also survived by best friends Cheryl Nyberg, and Dave and Jan Inter plus fifteen nieces and nephews.   Pam worked in the bar and restaurant business most of her life. She was a member of the Society of Holy Trinity and Foresters' clubs for decades.  She also was a supporter of the Lower Eastside Fighting Eagles having attained a 4th degree Black Belt.  She loved the bands Eagles and Journey, all animals especially lions and English mastiffs, having raised four over twenty five years, Cubs, Dolphins, working in her flower beds, cooking, canning, trips with Zeke and the Plonskis to Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, and Florida and riding on the back of the Harley and in the 55 Chevy.   "My wife suffered with cancer of the larynx, lung. liver, pelvis and spine.  She was one tough gal having endured pain for three years.  Together Forever  Rick Astley our wedding song, Love Zeke."   There will be no calling hours or services.  Zeke will hold a celebration of life at a later date.   Memorials may be made to the ANNA Shelter.   The Carl A. Obituary Preview: It is with deep sorrow and unwavering love that the family of Ryan Casey "Ziggy" Rzomp announce his sudden passing on March 6th, 2022.  He was born in Erie Pennsylvania on March 13th, 1986 son of Darcie (Johnston) Rzomp and Jim Rzomp.   Ryan attended St. Luke Grade School and graduated from Cathedral Prep in 2004.  He was currently employed at Accuride Erie.   The entertainer at family gatherings and dare-devil at parties, everyone knew Ryan as the "life of the party".  He had a huge heart, kind soul, wild spirit and always let you know how much he loved you.  He was incredibly generous and outstretched his hands to all.  He was always a phone call away when you needed him.   Ryan appreciated the simple things and loved going to camp.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and doing firework displays.  Above all, Ryan loved spending time with his family and friends.  Especially his fiance' Cindy and their daughter Nora, who he was completely smitten with.  They had a beautiful father/daughter bond, and it pains us greatly how much he will miss.   Ryan loved with all of his heart.  He was a loving fiance', father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, cousin, friend and will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.  We mourn his daily presence in our lives and will miss his contagious smile and seeing the twinkle of mischief in his beautiful green eyes. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ruth and Dick Johnston and Casey Rzomp.   Ryan is survived by his fiance' Cindy Kuerner, daughter Nora Rzomp, parents Darcie and Jim Rzomp, sister Sara McCormick and husband Kevin, nephew Colin McCormick, nieces Lauren and Abby McCormick, grandmother Vera Rzomp and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  Also survived by Cindy's loving family Ted Kuerner, Angela Kuerner, Joe Scott, Harriett Scott and Michael Kuerner.   Family and friends may attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday March 19, 2022 at St. Luke Church 421 East 38th St. Erie PA. at 10AM   Also a celebration of life is being planned for our memorial of love  for Ryan to be held at a later date.   Memorials may be made to Ryan's daughter Nora Rzomp in care of Cindy Kuerner.   The Carl A. Richard W. Miller - June 16, 1939 - February 21, 2022

Obituary Preview: Richard William Miller, "Dick", 82, died peacefully at home on February 21, 2022.  Dick was born in Erie on June 16. 1939, the only child of Martha (Sheehan) and Ralph Miller.                 Dick attended St. John the Baptist grade school and was a 1957 graduate of Cathedral Prep.  He received his bachelor's degree from Gannon College and his master's degree from Edinboro College.  Dick was also a veteran of the US Army, having been stationed in Korea from 1962-1964.                      Dick so loved being a teacher in the Erie Public Schools, where he taught for over 30 years.  He taught English and German, primarily at Academy High.  He retired in 1995.  He was dedicated to his students and his profession, and influenced many young lives in a positive way.               Dick loved reading and was always up on current events.  He enjoyed genealogy, having thoroughly traced his German and Irish roots, of which he was very proud.               Dick was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Church and was proud to say the Miller family has attended the parish for over 100 years.  Dick was an altar boy in his youth and in retirement at daily mass.  Dick also loved singing in the St. John-Holy Rosary Resurrection Choir.            In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his son-in-law, Daniel Elliott.            Dick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Deanna (Nikolishen) Miller.  He was a wonderful dad to Monica, Anna Marie, Gregory, Paula, and Gerard, all of Erie.  He was known as Opa to his loving grandchildren, Bridget, Joseph, and Caroline Fessler,  Matthew Elliott,  Gianna and Alivia.  Dick is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.  Additionally, he is survived by many special friends, including his childhood schoolmates, Sr. Phyllis Hilbert, Trudy Barnhart, and Fr. Chuck Roland.            Friends and family are invited to call at St. John the Baptist Church on Thursday, February 24 at 10a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11a.m.  The family requests that all mourners please wear a mask.  Private burial will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery at a later date.           Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.           The Carl. Obituary Preview: John P. “Jack” Rippy, 60, of the Pennsylvania Soldier’s and Sailors’ Home, Erie, PA and formerly of Johnsonburg, died Monday January 24, 2022 at the Home in Erie following a lengthy illness. He was born on October 27, 1961 in St. Marys, PA a son to the late Francis “Jude” and Rosemary Uhl Rippy.  Jack had lived most of his life in Johnsonburg and was a 1980 graduate of Johnsonburg Area High School.
He had been a member of Holy Rosary Church, the American Legion and VFW all in Johnsonburg.
Jack was a Desert Storm Navy Vet serving at sea aboard the USS Independence CV-62 Aircraft Carrier as a Damage Controlman 3rd Class and served in the US Navy from July 1987 to July 1991. For his service, he received the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Good Conduct Award, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal and National Defense Medal. Jack is survived by his sisters and brother; Marilyn Rippy of Walnutport, PA, Francis “Frank” Rippy, Jr. of Johnsonburg, Mark Rippy of Pittsburgh and Mary Ann, Mrs. Randy Carbone of New Castle. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Michelle and Daniel Morcombe and Shannon, Mrs. Steve Neureiter and Scott Wright and many great-nieces and great-nephews,
He is predeceased by his parents.
Private funeral services and Interment for John P. “Jack” Rippy were held at the Pennsylvania Soldier’s and Sailors’ Home, Erie, PA on Thursday January 27, 2022.

Anna Mae Anaya - July 21, 1932 - January 03, 2022

Obituary Preview: On Monday January 3, 2022, Anna Mae Vogt Anaya, loving wife, and mother of 4 children, passed away at the age of 89.   Anna was born on July 21, 1932 in Erie, PA, daughter of the late Fred and Mary Koper Vogt.  She was a lifelong resident of Erie where she attended St. John the Baptist Grade School and graduated from Academy High School.  She retired from Pulakos Chocolates after many years of working there.   Anna had a passion for gardening and local politics.  She loved to travel and has been known to visit a few casinos. Anna embraced her Polish heritage and looked forward to Zabawa festival every year enjoying Polkas and food from the region.  She was known for her outgoing and fun-loving spirit; always ready to go.   Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Louis M. Anaya, a son Alan Anaya, sister Mary Sullivan, her brother Raymond Vogt and her son-in-law Jon Sorenson.   She is survived by her children, David (Sylvia), Kathy Sorenson (Chet Mikolajczak), Robert (Linda), and Louis (Denise).  She will be tremendously missed by her grandchildren, Dennis Sorenson, Michael Anaya, Brent Sorenson, Briana Anaya, Robert (Bobbie) Anaya, Meghan Anaya, Jeffrey Anaya, Jennifer Anaya, Abby Anaya and Joseph Anaya, her 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews..   Friends may call at St. John the Baptist Church 509 East 26th St. on Tuesday January 11, 2022 from 10 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Mass there at 11 A.M.  Everyone attending must wear a mask regardless of vaccination status.   Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.   The Carl A. Obituary Preview: Helen Robie Godzwa, 98, of Erie passed away on Saturday December 11, 2021 at  Sarah Reed Senior Living.   She was born in Erie on January 26, 1923 daughter of the late Michael and Julia Zwolak Robaskiewicz   Helen  attended East High School before going to work at Hammermill Paper Company.  In later years, she was a nurse's aide at St. Mary's Home (East).   Helen married Edwin Godzwa on June 21, 1948 at St. Casimir Church.  She and her husband were proprietors of the Warsaw Cafe for many years.  She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, she was strong in her faith and love of family.   Helen was happiest when entertaining family and friends.  She loved to cook and everyone loved her Golabki.  Always known as Busia, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of her world!   Mercy Terrace Apartments was her home for the last 12 years.  While living there she made many dear friends.   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Edwin, infant son Thomas, sisters, Theresa and Catherine, twin brother Henry, brothers, Raymond, Steve, Edward, Leo, and John.   Helen is survived by her daughters Carol (Allan) Sassman and Susan Godzwa McPherson, grandchildren Eric (Marie) Sassman, Laura (Johnathan) Pabellon, Caroline and Anna McPherson, great-grandchildren Evan and Fiona Sassman.  She is also survived by a brother, Dr. Richard Robie and his wife Gertrude (Trudy), sister-in-law Norma Robie and many nieces and nephews.   The family would like to thank the staff of Sarah Reed Senior living for their compassionate care of Helen during these past few months.   A Memorial Mass at Holy Trinity Church will be announced in the spring of 2022.   Private burial was in Calvary Cemetery.   Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church or Mercy Terrace Apartments.   The Carl A. He was born in Columbus, Ohio May 30, 1942, son of the late George and Pauline Jones Hendricks Bob served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Independence Aircraft Carrier during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from the City of Erie Fire Department after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, Polish Falcons Nest 610 and Nest 123. Bob enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, bowling and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary A. Majczyk Hendricks, a son Robert R. Hendricks, grandson Gregory John Hendricks, and his step-father Charles Winters. Survivors include his daughters Michelle Pochatko (Roger Peters). and Christine Watkins and husband Charles, sons Gregory Hendricks and wife Renae and Jeffrey Hendricks and wife Karen, brothers George Hendricks and wife Charlotte and Charles Winters, sisters Charlene Winters Wade and Beverly Roberts and husband Pete, 20 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.. Obituary Preview: Edward T. Reszkowski, 80 of Greene Twp., passed away on Monday October 25, 2021 at Pleasant Ridge Manor.   He was born Erie on October 13, 1941 son of the late Edward and Wanda Dylewski Reszkowski.   Ed served in the U.S. Navy.  He retired from the PA Soldiers & Sailors Home working in the maintenance department for over 20 years.   He was an accomplished musician playing the saxophone and the clarinet.   In his earlier career he played in Las Vegas for opening acts for Elvis Presley and also Ann Margaret.  Locally he played in several polka bands, mainly the Hilites and the Bob Uleck Band.   He was a Lifetime member of the Polish Falcons Nest 123 where he received the Legion of Honor Medal.  Ed enjoyed bowling and attending many Falcons' bowling tournaments out of town, golfing, hunting, and gambling at various casinos.   Survivors include his wife Cynthia Jaworowicz Reszkowski, daughter Lisa Walter (Jeff), granddaughter Alesha, sister Dorothy Wassel (Lance) and  brother Jerry Reszkowski (Barbara).  He is also survived by two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.   The family wishes to thank the staff on unit K at Pleasant Ridge Manor for the excellent care Ed received.   Friends may call at Holy Trinity Church East 22nd & Reed Streets on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of the Funeral Mass there at 11am.  Everyone attending must wear a mask regardless of vaccination status. Obituary Preview: Joshua Ryan Long age 34, passed away unexpectedly Thursday October 15, 2021.   He was born in Erie PA on February 28, 1987 to Tina Marie Kurtic.   He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick John Pieri Sr. and brother Steven Craig Long Jr.,   Besides his mother and her significant other, Kevin Drayer he is survived by son Bryson Patrick, girlfriend Victoria Czigler and their daughter Annabelle Nicole, his sister Ashley Korytowski (Jeff), their children Samantha (God-daughter) and Cameron, brothers Kinkade and Kenttin Kurtic and many aunts, uncles and cousins.   After graduation he went on to proudly serve in the United States Army, where he served one tour in Kuwait and the second tour in Iraq.  He enjoyed his time spent stationed in Fort Jackson South Carolina, Fort Hood Texas, and Fort Carson Colorado where he met many life long friends.   He was always the first to give a smile and a hug, and loved sharing a good joke.  He loved to play cards, meet new people, sing, write music and spend time with family, friends, and his beloved dog Halo.   Although his  life was short, he was loved by many and will be remembered always.   Friends may at the Carl A. Kenton, age 79, passed away peacefully Thursday October 14th, 2021, following a lengthy illness.   He was a native of Erie, PA, but had been residing near Miami, FL to be close to his daughter,  Amy.  He was born June 10, 1942, son of the late Louis and Helen Kwiatkowski.   Don was a 1960 graduate of East High School where he was a varsity wrestler, football and water polo player.  He received his B.S. in Elementary Education from Edinboro State University where he also played football.  Later, he completed his master's degree and his Principal's Administration Certificate from the State University of New York at Fredonia.   He retired as principal from Lincoln Elementary School in 1996 after 36 years with the Erie School District.  He started his career as a teacher and moved into administration at Diehl, Emerson, Harding, Gridley, Wayne, Burton, Garfield and the old Marshall Schools.   Don loved working and kept busy with his boat at Presque Isle Yacht Club where he was a member.  You could find him in the summer fishing for perch and walleye.   Don is survived by his loving wife, Alice, with whom he was married for 54 years and two daughters, Alison Samuels, and Amy Perez, a grandson, Andrew Samuels and two granddaughters, Tatiana and Eva Perez.  Additionally he is survived by his brother Louis Kwiatkowski and his wife Kathleen, nieces Marikae Chrzanowski and husband John and sons, Lynn Pruckner and husband Dr. Scott Pruckner and daughters, Kris Timpano and husband Frank and their children and nephew Louis J. Kwiatkowski and wife Cheryl and family.

Obituary Preview: Harry Robert (Bob) Jagodzinski   Harry Robert (Bob) Jagodzinski, 97, loving husband and father, died peacefully at Nightingale Nursing Center in Erie on Sept. 29, 2021, after a brief illness.   Harry is reunited in heaven with the love of his life, Dolores, his wife of 70 years.   Harry was a man of deep and humble faith and was an active, longtime member of St. Joseph Church.   Harry always had a song on his lips and in his heart for everyone, especially Dolores. Friends and family have fond memories of his warm sense of humor and his charitable spirit. He always expressed his deep appreciation for kindness shown to him, and reflected it back tenfold.   He was a commercial artist/ graphic designer by profession, and in his free time created many works in oil paints and other mediums. His artwork won many awards. He also had a lifelong love for carpentry, gardening, bowling and the World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers.   Harry was born Sept. 21, 1924 in Erie, Pa., son of Frank E. and Sophia (Symanowicz) Jagodzinski.   He was baptized at Holy Trinity Church, and attended grade school at St. John the Baptist, and Wilson Jr. High. He graduated from Erie Technical High School where he majored in art under the instruction of Joseph Plavcan.   In 1943, Harry enlisted in the Army, and trained in the air defense artillery. He was deployed to Europe and served in four major World War II campaigns in Gen. Patton’s Third Army: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was promoted to staff sergeant, and served as a gunnery crew chief.   In later years, Harry recounted his experiences on the Normandy beachhead in the wake of the D-Day landings, witnessing the liberation of Paris, and seeing action in the Battle of the Bulge. Harry also recalled watching as American engineers destroyed the giant swastika on top of the Nazi rally grounds outside Nuremberg, Germany, at the end of the war.   After his honorable discharge following World War II, Harry earned a diploma from The Art Institute at Pittsburgh in 1948. He worked at National Service Engraving company as an advertising artist, then joined the American Sterilizer Co. in the graphics department, retiring in 1985.   He married Dolores (Kostek) on Aug. 6, 1949, and they raised a family of six children. They were lifelong members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Erie.   Harry is survived by children James (Mary K), Christine Anderson, Rosanne (John) Jaworski, Thomas (Darlene), and Robert (Kristin).   Preceded in death by wife Dolores, son John, brothers Frank and Joseph Jagodzinski and son-in-law Larry Anderson.   Harry was the loving and caring grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.   He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.   Harry's family offers deep thanks to Nightingale (formerly St. Mary's East) for the devoted care he received.   Friends may call at the Carl A. Erie - Randolph Joseph Lightner, 74, passed away Sept 20, 2021 at the Soldiers & Sailors Home in Erie, after a brief illness.
He was born October 12, 1946, in Indiana Pa. and was the son of the late Lisle (Pete), and Winona Lightner. Randy was a 1964 Graduate of Academy High School where he was in the Band and was a three-sport athlete. He attended Edinboro State College until enlisting in the US Army and served his Country in Seoul Korea. He returned to Edinboro and received a Degree in Biology. He was a Past President and loyal Brother of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Randy was well read with Sports and World History and in particular the Civil War. He loved to tell stories and loved his assignment as the Librarian at the Soldiers & Sailors Home where he resided.
Randy worked for the United State Postal Service until his retirement in 2009. His first love was playing Fastpitch Softball where he excelled as a Pitcher at several State Level Tournament Teams winning a State Championship in 1980. He later found his Second love in Pickleball and was instrumental in establishing the game at the East Side YMCA. He loved teaching newcomers the game. He partnered with his Brother Scott in the Pennsylvania State Pickleball Tournament in Pittsburgh in 2012 where they competed with the States finest.
He is survived by his son Kyle Lightner of Columbus, Ohio. Stepson Derek Zack of Columbus, Ohio. Brothers Scott (Jane), Gerry (Patty), and Todd. Sister Cindy Shields (Todd) all of Erie. Many cousins, nieces, and nephews as he is the Oldest Grandchild of the McAdoo, Glenn, and Lightner clans from Indiana County, and Erie.
The Slomski Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Due to Covid requirements there will not be any visitation to a Private Burial at the Soldiers and Sailors Home. There will be a Military Ceremony and a Celebration of Life on a date to be determined in the Spring. Our thanks to the Staff and Nurses at the St Vincent Cancer Center and their excellent care and comfort.
