Marion Rutae Lochbihler - August 05, 1922 - March 22, 2024

Departed: 03/22/2024 (Milwaukee)
Obituary Preview: Marion Rutae Lochbihler, known affectionally as “Mare,” was gifted life on August 5, 1922.
After a rich and full life — living over 101 years — she passed peacefully from this Earth, received by our Lord and Savior, on March 22, 2024.
Born and raised in Chicago, Marion was the only child of Vincent and Marie Rutkauskas. Her father, a self-made Who’s Who lawyer who had immigrated from Lithuania with only 19 cents in his pockets, was 54 years old at the time of Marion’s birth: her mother 34 years old.
She was homeschooled early in life, her parents hoping to provide her a “jump start” in education. Their efforts rewarded, at the age of six Marion entered grade school and was immediately placed into third grade. Her parents also encouraged her musical training. Playing violin and piano with various musical ensembles would feature prominently throughout her life.
Her father purchased a violin for her before school age, and a grand piano at age eight. During high school, Marion played in the All-State Orchestra in Urbana, Illinois. She attended summer camp at the International Music Camp at Interlochen, Michigan, playing Sunday concerts on the radio. At age 15, she formed an all-girls nine-piece swing band. They joined with the Chicago Musician’s Union and played at weekend dances and clubs throughout Chicago. Marion also graduated high school at age fifteen. She then enrolled with and graduated from the University of Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago at age 19 with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She continued her education, pursuing graduate studies in Journalism.
Upon completion of her degrees, Marion began work as an assistant buyer for Chicago’s Marshall Fields. At Fields, Marion met Frederick L. Lochbihler, then Field’s divisional manager. Frederick and Marion were wed on December 31, 1948.
Marion and Fred started their life together by purchasing a Frank Lloyd Wright house (known as the Armstrong House) in Ogden Dunes, Indiana. Mare loved the home and would reminisce about it fondly in later years. After the birth of four children - Fred, Lyn, Vince, and David - the couple moved from Ogden Dunes to nearby Chesterton, and finally took up residence in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Marion’s parents would reside with her, Fred, and their children until Vincent and Marie passed at 96 and 103, respectively.
Once all her children were school age, Marion gleefully went to work! She first worked as a sales director and news editor for Wolf and Dessauer retail store. But she was on the move. Perhaps Mare’s favorite job was at Parkview Memorial Hospital, the largest health center in the Fort Wayne area. At Parkview, she was Public Relations Director and Publications Editor for two hospital magazines. Here, she also met and became fast friends with Bill Werner and Daisy Strong. The three would remain dearest of friends for life.
Once Fred (eleven years Mare’s senior) reached 60, the two retired to Sun City Center, Florida to live the good life. In Florida, Marion continued to work. Her most interesting job was for the Sun City developer, shepherding 32 volunteers who showed the development homes to retirees as Sun City grew and matured. She also played violin in Sun City’s thirty-piece chamber orchestra.
Upon her husband Fred’s passing, Mare became a snowbird, moving to Glenview, Illinois where her son Fred had purchased her a condo. Mare loved summering in Glenview and wintering in Sun City, traveling with cats Max and Bif in tow. Always full of energy, she had friends in both locations with whom she enjoyed playing music, cards, and golf.
Finally, Marion moved to the Milwaukee area, where son Fred and his family had a second home. From Fox Point to Luther Haven, she then took up residence at Luther Manor. Well-known at Luther Manor, she made many friends and won many a card games, her favorites being sheepshead, cribbage, and gin rummy. To the end, Marion remained ‘sharp as a tack,’ a truly impressive and bright personality.
Marion is survived by her four children, Fred (Whitney) Lochbihler of Chicago, IL and Milwaukee, WI, Vince (Judy) Lochbihler of Fort Wayne, IN, Lyn Stadish of Fort Wayne, IN, and David Lochbihler of Warrenton, VA. She is survived by four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Marion was preceded in death, and joins with her father, Vincent Rutkauskas, mother, Marie Rutkauskas, husband, Frederick L. Lochbihler, and many close friends. Her remains will be laid to rest both near her beloved cats Max and Bif, and with her husband Fred, interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
Gathering will be held at Krause Funeral Home, 9000 West Capitol Drive, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, 3:00 - 4:00 PM.

Ted G. Koconis - December 13, 1924 - March 20, 2024

Departed: 03/20/2024 (Milwaukee)
Obituary Preview: Ted (Trifonas) G. Koconis of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024, at the age of 99.
Beloved husband for 69 years of Barbara (nee Bratcher). Dear father of Deborah L. Koconis (Mark Unak), Thomas T. Koconis, and Julie A. Koconis (Todd Pruess). Further survived by brother-in-law Spiros Siaggas (widower of sister Joni “Cookie” Siaggas), and many Koconis and Bratcher Family nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents George T. Koconis and Sophie P. Koconis (nee Konstadopulou); sister Diana Kalyvas and brother-in-law Frank “Gelly” Kalyvas; brother James Koconis; brother Thomas Koconis and sister-in-law Bernadine “Bea” Koconis; sister Joni “Cookie” Siaggas; parents-in-law Frank T. Bratcher and Marguerite E. Bratcher (nee Shoot); sister-in-law Jacqueline Parker and brother-in-law Elmer Parker; and brother-in-law Frank “Buddy” Bratcher.
Ted grew up between Milwaukee and Green Bay, Wisconsin, and in 1943 he graduated with honors from Lincoln High School in Milwaukee, where he was class president and captain of the Service Club. Following his high school graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he attended Wisconsin State Teachers College-Milwaukee (later known as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee). He left college after his junior year to accept a job offer he said he could not refuse.
After leaving college, Ted started work in the point-of-purchase display advertising industry. He worked first for the newly-founded Display Corporation in Milwaukee, then moved to a similar firm in Chicago. Finally,  in 1955, he moved to another Chicago firm, Arvey Corporation, where he was a long-term employee serving in its display division as Arvey’s sole Milwaukee-area representative. When Arvey decided to close its entire display division in 1983, the Milwaukee branch under Ted was its only profitable branch. In 1968, while still with Arvey, Ted founded a small manufacturing company called Koconis Corporation to handle orders that were too small for Arvey. It was a true family business, with his brother, Tom, serving in a long-standing executive role; his brother, Jim, as legal counsel; and his wife, Barbara, in-laws, children, and many of his nieces and nephews working in the business at one time or another. Over time, Ted grew Koconis Corporation to take over Arvey’s Wisconsin-area business when Arvey closed its display division. After 35 years, Ted sold Koconis Corporation in 2003 and then worked for the buyer for 3 years to help assure a smooth transition. He retired in 2006 at the age of 82 and said he would never wear a tie again.
Ted was a born leader in all aspects of his life. A natural athlete, in his school years he played football, softball, and tennis when his family did not need the additional income he could provide by selling newspapers on Wisconsin Avenue. He continued to play softball into middle age. He and Barbara played both singles and doubles tennis as members of Highlander Elite Racquet Club. He was a regular bowler in the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) men’s and couples’ leagues. He also bowled in Bowlero’s senior leagues, including for a time with his sister Diana. In 1998, Ted became a Wisconsin Senior Olympian in bowling with gold medals in men’s singles and mixed doubles. In 2018, he and his family celebrated Father’s Day with a bowling outing at his request, where he proceeded to whup everyone (as he knew he would). He and Barbara were long-time members first of West Bend Country Club and then of North Hills Country Club, where in 1991 he had a hole in one on the second hole while golfing with Barbara.
Ted was also an artist throughout high school, and he majored in art in college. He signed his art using his baptismal name, Trifonas.  He continued to draw and paint throughout his life, often giving away his pieces to admiring family members and friends.
Ted was an avid card player -- poker and gin rummy in particular – and played with church and other friends, business clients, and family. He was a soft-hearted animal lover and particularly enjoyed the many cats that claimed ownership of Barbara and him over time. He had a green thumb, and his neighbors would recognize him as a master of the snowblower and the riding lawn mower.
Ted was a life-long member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Throughout his life, Ted remained devoted to his parents and siblings and maintained many close friendships from his childhood and school years.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped care for Ted in his final years, including Dr. John Sanidas; the staff of the Wellness Center, rehab floor, and physical therapy department at Saint John’s on the Lake; Legacy Hospice Cares; and Aurora Zilber Family Hospice. Additionally, the family would like to thank Father Ciprian Sas of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church for his many kindnesses.
He will always be loved, missed, and held in our hearts.

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and other biographical information. It may also include details about their life, accomplishments, and surviving family members.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased and can be a valuable resource for genealogical research.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or mortuary may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template for the family to use.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include details about their life, accomplishments, and any notable achievements.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs at most.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

The process for submitting an obituary varies depending on the publication or platform. Typically, you will need to contact the obituary department directly or use an online submission form. Be sure to check their guidelines and deadlines before submitting.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication or platform. Some may charge by the word or line, while others may offer package deals or discounts for longer notices.

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to control how they are remembered and to spare their loved ones from having to do it during a difficult time.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is typically a brief announcement of someone's passing, often including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is usually longer and provides more detailed information about the person's life.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Including humorous stories or anecdotes can help capture the personality and spirit of the deceased and make the obituary more engaging and memorable.

How do I handle sensitive or private information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive or private details about the deceased that you do not want to share publicly, it's best to omit them from the obituary or discuss them with immediate family members before including them.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and support a good cause.

How long after someone passes away should I wait before publishing an obituary?

The timing of publishing an obituary varies depending on cultural and personal preferences. Typically, it's best to wait until after the funeral or memorial service has taken place to ensure that all necessary arrangements have been made.

Can I republish an obituary at a later date?

In some cases, yes. If you want to republish an obituary on a special anniversary or occasion, you may be able to do so through the original publication or platform. Check their policies beforehand.

What if I need to make corrections to an already published obituary?

How do I find old obituaries?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or genealogy websites, visiting local libraries or historical societies, or contacting funeral homes or mortuaries where the person was laid to rest.

Can I use social media to share an obituary?

Absolutely! Social media can be a powerful tool for sharing news of someone's passing and connecting with friends and family who may not have otherwise seen the traditional print notice.

What is the etiquette for responding to an online obituary?

When responding to an online obituary, it's generally considered appropriate to express condolences, share a fond memory or anecdote, or offer words of comfort and support.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Yes! Including meaningful quotes or song lyrics can add depth and personality to an obituary and help capture the essence of the deceased.

How do I handle multiple marriages or complex family relationships in an obituary?

This can be a delicate situation. It's best to prioritize sensitivity and tact when navigating complex family relationships in an obituary. Consider consulting with immediate family members before finalizing the notice.

What if I'm unsure about certain details in an obituary?

If you're unsure about specific details such as dates, places, or names, it's better to err on the side of caution and omit them rather than risk publishing inaccurate information.

Can I create a digital archive of old family obituaries?

Absolutely! Creating a digital archive can be a wonderful way to preserve family history and make it easily accessible for future generations.
