Obituary Preview: ONEIDA- Michael E. Ortman II, 49, East Sands Street, died Tuesday, April 23, 2024, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended illness.
Born in Oneida, on May 29, 1974, he was the son of Michael and Mary Streun Ortman I. A lifelong resident of the Oneida area, Michael was a graduate of Oneida High School and attended Mohawk Valley Community College. He married Rebecca Finley in the Amboy United Methodist Church on August 24, 1993.
Prior to his illness, Michael was employed with H. P. Hood, in Oneida and served with the United States Army. He loved his wife, daughters and grandchildren and the family gatherings, along with four wheeling and the art of jiu jitsu.
Surviving besides his wife, Rebecca and his parents, Michael and Mary, are his two daughters, Jenna Ortman of Camden and Makalia (Michael) Persons of Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Lily, Lilah, Cameron II, Mason and Micah; his brother, Lewis (partner, Crystal Havener) Ortman of Oneida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Michael Persons II in 2020.
Funeral service will be held 1 PM, Wednesday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida with the Reverend Glen Hardman, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home, 11 AM-1 PM, Wednesday, prior to the funeral service.

Born in Oneida, on September 5, 1967, he was the son of Ernest and Gloria Landry Zimmerman. A lifelong resident of Oneida, Randy was a graduate of Oneida High School.
Prior to a medical disability, Randy was employed with Ferris Industries in Sherrill. A private person, he collected Harley Davidson keepsakes and various flags and loved panda bears.
Surviving are his daughter, Kylee Anne Zimmerman; his brother, Wayne Zimmerman of Texas and family and friends. Randy is predeceased by his aunt, Geraldine Eaton.

Born in Canastota on December 19, 1942, she was the daughter of Jules and Doris Kelly James. A lifelong resident of the area, Patricia was a graduate of Oneida High School. She married Betty Johnston in Oneida on November 3, 2012.
Prior to her retirement with thirty years of service, Patricia was employed with Grey Syracuse in Chittenango as a straightener. She was of the Christian faith.
Surviving are: her wife Betty Johnston of Oneida; sister, Terri Edwards of Oneida; son, John (Lorie) Christenson; daughter, Marian Kenny; step-daughter, Theresa (Alan) Wright and her children, Jeremiah Phillips and Justin Phillips; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; three nieces and one nephew. She was predeceased by a daughter, Julie Fabin and a brother, Milton James.

Obituary Preview: SHERRILL- Christopher Fewer, 89, of Ransom Avenue, passed away on March 31, 2024, in Upstate University Hospital, where he had been admitted the day before.
Born in Brooklyn on March 30, 1935, he was the son of Christopher and Monica Hayes Fewer. A resident of this area since 1969, he was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School and then enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1952-55 during the Korean War. He married Viola Donnelly in St. Michael’s Church, Brooklyn on June 16, 1956. Mrs. Fewer died on October 30, 2021.
Prior to his retirement with over twenty-eight years of service, Chris was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture as a Federal Inspector. He was a member of the E. Bart Hanifin Knights of Columbus, Council #473, the American Legion, Sherrill Post #230 and the Veterans of Foreign War, National Chapter.
Chris enjoyed traveling and went through the United States, Canada and Europe and for the past fifteen years, has enjoyed the winters in Florida. He was a communicant of St. Helena’s Church and a former member of St. Patrick’s Church.
Surviving are: one son, John J. (Holly) Fewer of Sherrill; grandchildren, Ryan (Kara) Matt, Emily Fewer, Sean Fewer and Jonathan Fewer and two great-grandchildren, Harper Matt and Jaxon Matt and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Eileen on October 11, 1975, three sons in infancy, Matthew, Michael and Christopher, one great-grandson, Liam Matthew Fewer in December of 2014 and siblings, Ann, Jack, Loretta, Veronica, Mary and Clara.
Funeral services will be held 11AM, Saturday, April 6, 2024, from St. Helena’s Church, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Christopher Ballard, pastor. Interment, with full miliary honors will be made in St. Helena’s Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Clear Path for Veteran’s, 1223 Salt Springs Road, Chittenango, NY 13037.

Born in Oneida on March 20, 1948, she was the daughter of Raymond J. and June Mason Spinelli Sr. A lifelong resident of the area, Kathleen was a graduate of Oneida High School. She married Roland “Rollie” M. Sreca in Vernon on August 28, 1965. Mr. Sreca died on October 20, 2021.
Prior to her retirement, Kathleen was employed by Oneida Limited Silversmith’s. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Sherrill Post #230 and their honor guard. Kathy was an avid NASCAR fan, taking trips to both the Poconos and Daytona to watch the races and was a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt. A highlight of her life was meeting him.
She had a deep love for children, especially her three great-great nieces and nephews.
Surviving are: niece, Lori (Tim) Crofton; nephew, Dale (Sheila) Sreca and their son Charles; many other nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Trudy Sreca of Vernon and Darlene Nodecker of Georgia and brother-in-law, James Sreca of Verona. She was predeceased by her brother, Raymond J. Spinelli Jr. on March 12, 2015.
In keeping with Kathleen’s wishes, services will be private, for immediate family. Interment will be made in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Sherrill American Legion, 168 East Seneca Street, Sherrill, NY 13461. Born in Syracuse on October 9, 1998, he was the son of Matthew Atkinson and Christy LeRoy. A lifelong resident of Oneida, Tyler was educated in Oneida High School.
He enjoyed fishing, bicycling and his family, especially his Nana and Papa. Tyler was of the Christian faith.
Surviving are: his mother, Christy LeRoy of Oneida; his father, Matthew Atkinson of Florida; his special Papa and Nana, Art and Sandy LeRoy; his paternal grandmother, Bonnie McCormick and his maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Robinson. He was predeceased by a brother, Zachary in 2000, his paternal grandfather, Ronald Atkinson and his paternal great-grandmother, Grace McCormick.
Funeral services will be held 12PM, Friday, March 15, 2024, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, with the Reverend William Wilcox, officiating. Obituary Preview: ALTAMONT-Alma S. Reitz, 103, formerly of Oneida and Durhamville, died Monday evening, March 11, 2024, in the comfort of her home, under the loving care of her daughter and granddaughters.
Born in Fairfield, she was the daughter of Elmer and Anna Gloskey Stahl. A resident of Oneida for many years, moving there in 1948, Alma was a graduate of Little Falls High School. She married William A. Reitz, Sr. in Herkimer on January 3, 1943. Mr. Reitz died in 2011.
For over thirty years, Alma was employed with Sears and Roebuck and Company as a salesperson at the Oneida store. She was very involved with her late husband’s showing of pleasure driving ponies and was a member of the Barneveld Horsemen’s Association and the Cherry Valley Carriage Association. Alma a seventy year member of the Eastern Star, a member of AARP and was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving are: her daughter, Gail (Robert) Hartwell of Altamont; her son William (Connie) Reitz, Jr. of Massena; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her daughter, Marcia Reitz in 2023 and her sister, Reata Stahl.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Saturday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida with the Reverend Katie Yahns, officiating. Spring interment will be made in Rural Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 11AM-1 PM, Saturday, prior to the funeral service. Allan E. Smith - May 16, 1943 - March 09, 2024

Obituary Preview: ONEIDA- Allan E. Smith of Oneida, NY passed away unexpectedly on March 9th, 2024 at the age of 80.
Allan was born on May 16, 1943; growing up in Massena and Raymondville, NY he graduated from Norwood Norfolk Central High School in 1961 and Mohawk Community College in 1963 then served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1966.
Allans’ work history includes working as a Master Plumber moving onto co-owning the White Pillars Inn in Norwood, NY; redesigning and building it into a fine dining restaurant with a bowling alley, two bars and apartments. From there Allan went into the field of construction working as a mechanical foreman and moving up to project manager on multi-million dollar industrial job sites in a variety of locations including the New England states and as far as Trinidad, St. Croix and New Delhi, India.
Allan was known as a storyteller extraordinaire among his family and friends and greatly enjoyed the outdoors while fishing, and hunting. His competitive nature would always shine when playing any kind of games, winning more often than not. Trying his best to never miss the weekly poker game with his buddies.
Allan is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol Seamans-Smith and five children: Larry Smith, Lori Smith (Ralph Fraley) and Matthew Smith (Bonnie Smith), all residing in Texas. Nathan Smith (Alisha Smith) and Sarah Smith all residing in Oneida, NY.
His surviving grandchildren include Anna Smith, Zachary Smith, Ivy Smith and Mazie Smith. His surviving siblings are Robert Smith (FL), Barbara Smith (NY) and Anne Stickney (FL).
There will be no funeral services at this time but there will be a celebration of life scheduled for later this year. This quote from Theodore Roosevelt sums up Allans life: “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasm, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
Allan was not a timid soul.

Born in Rome on March 29, 1953, she was the daughter of Fred and Marguerite Draper Morris. A lifelong resident of Central New York upon relocating to North Carolina two weeks ago, Darlene was educated in Canastota High School.
Prior to her retirement, Darlene was employed with Oneida Limited, Silversmiths as a machinist. She had a great love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed playing BINGO.
Surviving are: daughter, Lindy Lagrange of Sylvan Beach; two sons, Michael (Brenda) Barriger of Blossvale and Steven Wright of Verona; several grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her companion, John Burke of Canastota; sisters, Mary Raymond of Rome, Donna Rossi of North Carolina, Rita Altman of North Carolina, Christine Smith of Oneida and Laurie Azlin of Montana; brother, Wayne “Speedy” Morris of Oneida and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Sharon Morris and a brother, Eddie Morris.

Born in Oneida on April 13, 1964, he was the son of John T. and Patricia Ward Allen Sr. Tom was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1983.
He had been employed with Onondaga County Recycle as a mechanic and in maintenance. Tom enjoyed working on trucks, enjoyed being with his friends and was a person who valued his privacy.
Surviving are: his father, John T. Allen Sr. of Oneida Castle; brother, Michael Allen of Camilla, GA; niece, Alyssa Allen of Rome and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Patricia and a sister-in-law, Sherry Allen.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with interment being made in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida.

Obituary Preview: VERONA- Genevieve W. “Gene” Hallagan, 93, of East Main Street, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, in Crouse Community Center, where she had been a resident for the past week.
Born in East Syracuse on May 16, 1930, she was the daughter of William and Ruth Clark Wilson. A lifelong resident of this area, growing up in Verona Beach, Gene was a graduate of Oneida High School. She married John I. Hallagan on July 1, 1950 in the Oneida Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hallagan died on February 21, 2008.
Prior to her retirement, Gene was a toll collector for the New York State Thruway Authority at Exit 33. She had previously been employed with the Town of Verona as a tax collector and with the former Gordon’s Flower Shop.
Gene was a member of the Three Voices Presbyterian Church, where she was a Deacon and very active in many other areas of the church. Her greatest joys in her life were her grandchildren and her church.
Surviving are: one daughter, Diane (Dan) Davis of Sherrill; two sons, Gary (Pam) Hallagan of Verona and Jeffrey (Dorrie) Hallagan of Marietta; seven grandchildren, Michelle Farnham, Stephen Davis, Lamar Hallagan, Mary Hallagan, Kristen Post, John Hallagan and Kevin Hallagan; three great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Elena and Oliver and one sister, Sharon Kawecki of Lakeworth, Florida.

Born in Utica on August 18, 1943, she was the daughter of Carl and Nina Adams Pecor. Sharon was educated in New Hartford schools. She married Jerry Lynch.
Sharon had previously been employed with Hunter House in Utica and was a member of the Prospect Fire Department Auxiliary and the Owls Club, Oneida Nest 1606. She loved camping, her animals and most of all, her family. Sharon was of the Christian faith.
Surviving are: two sons, Ronald G. (Tina) Lynch of Canastota and Mark Lynch of Utica; five grandchildren, Alyssa Mason, Thomas Lynch, Marisha Smith, Angella Dzickowski and Arielle Lanzetta; seven great-grandchildren and one brother, John (Carol) Pecor of Whitesboro. She was predeceased by her husband, Jerry; a daughter, Connie Dzickowski and grandson, Steven Dzickowski.

Born in Massena, on December 22, 1941, he was the son of Robert and Sarah L. Mason Mott. A resident of Central New York for the past fifty-four years, Larry was a graduate of Massena High School. He married Phyllis Perry, in Canastota, on June 4, 1977. Phyllis died on April 13, 2009.
Prior to his retirement, with thirty-five years of service, Larry was employed with Crouse Hinds Corporation in Syracuse. He loved spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and cooking and actively supported various charities. Larry had a unique sense of humor as a jokester.
Surviving are his three daughters, Dawn M. Musacchio and Julie (Charles) West, both of Oneida and Jennifer Mott of Altmar; his two sons, Dennis A. (fiancée, Dawna Smith) Mott of Palmyra and Erik K. (Crystal) Mott of Cazenovia; his two sisters, Betty Billingsley of California and Barbara Annabull of Connecticut; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Robert A. and Randy Omilanowicz, a sister, Fay Yakley and two brothers, Reginald and Donald Mott.
Following his wishes, the family will hold a private service at a date and time to be determined.

Christopher R. Lehner, Sr. - September 14, 1949 - February 20, 2024

Obituary Preview: Christopher R. Lehner, Sr., 74, of Farrier Avenue, Oneida, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at his residence.
Born in Oneida, on September 14, 1949, he was the son of Adolph and Virginia Russell Lehner. A lifelong resident of the area, with exception of his military service, Christopher was a graduate of Oneida High School and received his associates degree from Mohawk Valley Community College, his bachelors and two masters degrees from Cortland State College.
Christopher retired from military service in 1993, with twenty-two years of active duty, first serving with the United States Army and then with the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War and was directly involved in the Invasion of Panama. Following his military service, he was an instructor at New Mexico Military Institute for ten years. Christopher was a communicant of St. Agatha’s Church and loved his family, the military, martial arts and the cinema, since he was a big film buff.
Surviving are his two sons, Juan F. Lehner of Rome and Christopher R. (Shirley) Lehner, Jr. of Oneida; his grandchildren, Landyn and Andrew Lehner; his sister, Maryanne Lehner of Wampsville; his brother, David Lehner of Wampsville; and several cousins. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Riley Rose Lehner. Funeral services will be held 10:30AM, Saturday, March 9, 2024, from St. Patrick’s Church, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Christopher Ballard, pastor. Obituary Preview: VERONA- John W. “Jack” Carver, Sr., 91, of Old Oneida Road, passed away early Friday morning, February 16, 2024, in the Extended Care Facility of Oneida Health, where he had been a resident for the past month.
Born in Rome on April 19, 1932, he was the son of John C. and Alice Carleton Carver. A lifelong resident of the area, Jack was a graduate of Verona High School, Class of 1950. He married Mary Morris in Eddystone, Pennsylvania on May 31, 1958.
Prior to his retirement, Jack was employed with Revere Copper as a scale operator. He also helped his father run a small dairy farm in Verona. Jack was a member of the Verona Fire Department and served as past chief from 1970-72 and chaplain. He was a past member of the New London-Vienna Masonic Lodge and was active with the Daylight Friendship group. Before its closing, Jack was a member of the Verona Methodist Church, where he joined when he was twelve years old.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1956-1958. Jack had three loves in his life; his Lord, his family and the Verona Fire Department.
Surviving besides his wife Mary are: son, John W. (Linda Scholl) Carver Jr. of Verona; daughter, Christine (Stephen) Portner of Lewistown, PA; grandchildren, Nathanael (Laura) Portner, Alexander (Elizabeth) Portner and Benjamin Portner; one great-grandchild, Eli and brothers, Robert H. (Joyce) Carver of Verona and Donald (Ramona) Carver of Verona.
Private graveside services will be held in the spring in Verona Cemetery. In keeping with Jack’s wishes, there will be no prior hours of visitation. Obituary Preview: DURHAMVILLE- Marvin G. Clinch, 96, of Foster Road, passed away Thursday morning, February 15, 2024, in Bethany Gardens, Rome, where he had been a resident for the past three days.
Born in Stockbridge on July 14, 1927, he was the son of Marvin L. and Maude Proctor Clinch. A lifelong resident of Oneida, Marvin was a graduate of Oneida High School. He married Doris Wood in Oneida.
Prior to his retirement, Marvin was self-employed at Marv’s Collision and had later employed with Southfield Oldsmobile, Sullivan’s Oneida Motors and Bud’s Collision. He also taught auto body repair at Madison Oneida BOCES.
Marv was a member of the Durhamville Fire Department where he served as past commissioner. He enjoyed family gatherings and was an accomplished woodworker, making all his furniture. Marv loved coaching baseball, especially the Pony League and had coached his summer baseball league to the championships.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Oneida and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II.
Surviving besides his wife Doris are three sons, Marvin G. “Skip” (Pam) Clinch of Vernal, Utah, Thomas C. (Lisa) Clinch of Dayton, Ohio and James E. Clinch of Verona; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jean K. Franklin; a son, Robert K. Clinch and five brothers, Richard, Olin, Edward, Warren and Willard.
Funeral services will be held 6PM Thursday, February 22, 2024 with the Reverend Glen T. Hardman, officiating. Spring interment will be made in Valley View Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-6PM, Thursday, prior to the funeral service.

Obituary Preview: ONEIDA-Loretta A. Carey, 91, Union Street, died Thursday morning, February 15, 2024, in Oneida Healthcare, where she had been a medical patient for the past week. She was the last of ten children.
Born in Oneida, on June 2, 1932, she was the daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth Cafalone Maiura. A lifelong resident of Oneida, Loretta was a graduate of Oneida High School. She married Robert E. Carey in Oneida, on June 30, 1951. Mr. Carey died on January 8, 1998.
Prior to her retirement, Loretta was employed with Oneida Limited, Silversmiths. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and a member of the former Oneida Limited Retirement Club and the Community Associated Clubs. Loretta loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her two daughters, Loretta Uhlig of Oneida and Tina Carey of Syracuse; her two grandchildren, Carey Hewitt and Sarah Fogg; great-grandchildren, Avery, Hailey, Abigail, Sydney, Xander, and Layla; her niece, Carolyn; her close friend, Patty. and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Christine Fogg on February 21, 2019; her son, Robert E. Carey in December 1954; her grandson, David Brewster; her four sisters, Nancy Mathalia, Rose Tornatore, Ann Wagner and Jane Burdick; her five brothers. Sam, Anthony “Step”, John, Peter and Joseph Maiura and her cousin, Rosemary.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff on the 4th floor, especially her neighbor, Marissa.
Funeral services will be held 10AM Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida and 10:30AM from St. Joseph’s Church, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend Christopher Ballard, pastor. Obituary Preview: DURHAMVILLE- James M. “Smucker” Smoyer, 75, of Foster Street, passed away on Wednesday evening, February 14, 2024, in Upstate University Hospital, after an 8 year courageous battle against cancer. Born in Oneida on February 12, 1949, he was the son of Thomas and Rita Ginter Smoyer. A lifelong resident of the area, Smucker was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1967 and Mohawk Valley Community College. He married Deborah Hurd in Oneida on July 4, 1987 and remarried Deb on May 9, 2015.
Prior to his retirement, Smucker was employed as a mechanic with the Oneida Indian Nation. He had previously been employed by Smith Lee and Oneida Limited Silversmith’s. Smucker was a life member of the Oneida Owls, Nest 1606 and the American Legion, Oneida Post 169. He loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, was a fan of classic rock and loved to attend Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts.
Smucker enjoyed traveling, especially to Key West and the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. He was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Navy from 1968-74 and then in the Army National Guard 1983-1995.
Surviving besides his wife Deb are: three daughters, Jessica Smoyer of Durhamville, Melissa (Marc) Clinch of Vernon Center and Michele (Chad Stanhope) Riggs of Oneida; two sons, Jason (Maureen) Smoyer of Oneida and Matthew (Michelle) Smoyer of North Carolina; ten grandchildren, Lillyan Lewis, Alexis (Elvis Frazer) VanDusen, Sadie Riggs, Zane Riggs-Stanhope, Alyson Smoyer, Madison Ray, Payton Smoyer, Dylan Smoyer,  Jasmine Clinch and Drew (Breanna Grammar) Hoehn; and four great grandchildren, Hayden Frazer, Paisley Relyea, Ryder Relyea and Taya Hoehn; two sisters, Catherine Stevens and MaryEllen DeBarr, both of Sherrill; brother and best friend, John Smoyer of Sherrill; sister-in-law, Wanda (Charles) VanLuvanee; brother-in-law, Lance (Darlene) Hurd; several nieces and nephews and his loving, canine companions, Cadence and Layla.

Obituary Preview: ONEIDA- Lloyd L. “Flip” Harrington, 75, Lake Road, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, February 8, 2024, at his residence.
Born in Oneida, on June 24, 1948, he was the son of Thomas and Margaret (Lyga) Harrington. A lifelong resident of Oneida, Flip was a 1966 graduate of Oneida High School.
Raised on a farm since early childhood, Flip spent most of his life as a self-employed farmer and owner of Harrington Farms. In 2000 he started working with Ferris Industries (Briggs & Stratton) in Sherrill. Flip retired recently after twenty two years of service. While employed with Ferris, he became a “hobby farmer” in his spare time. He enjoyed planting and selling sweet corn in the summer, and pumpkins in the fall.
Flip enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Flip also loved machinery especially tractors, both his farm tractors and his toy collection. He was a twenty-five year member of the Durhamville Fire Department and held many ranks, including Asst Chief. He also belonged to various farming organizations. Surviving are his longtime companion, Ellen Beebe of Oneida; his two daughters, Jill LeWorthy of Oneida and Jennifer (Grant) Reineke of Walton, Kentucky; his son, Daniel E. (Kim) Harrington of St. Louis, Missouri; his step-daughter, Julianne (Chris) Scanlan of Schoharie; his step-son Gregg (Judy) Beebe of Houston, Texas; his ten grandchildren, Courtney, Breanna, Izaiah, Kate, Grace, Miles, Jack, Griffin, Evan and
Eli; his three sisters, Judith (Ronald) Kimball, Sara Harrington, Christine (Byran) Diamond, all of Oneida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Michael LeWorthy in February of 2023.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Saturday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida with his cousin Shaun Harrington officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home, 11 AM-1 PM, Saturday, prior to the funeral service. Obituary Preview: VERONA- Dolores A. “Bliss” Zeller Newcomb, 87, of East Main Street, died Tuesday evening, February 6, 2024, under the care of hospice.
Born in Bliss, NY on December 20, 1936, she was the daughter of Murray and Mary Elizabeth Wilcox Closser. A resident of this area since the early 1960’s, Bliss graduated from high school in Bliss. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport in 1958, beginning the Brockport collegiate tradition that would span generations. She married Oscar Zeller in Verona in 1962 and later married William Newcomb in Stockbridge in 1990.
Bliss was an in-home babysitter for many years. Prior to her retirement in the mid 1990’s, she was employed by Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School first as a physical education teacher and then as an elementary school teacher. After retirement, Bliss enjoyed working for Swistak farm in the blueberry and strawberry fields.
She enjoyed bowling in local leagues, gardening and jigsaw puzzles. Bliss was a voracious reader. Too many to name, her friend list was long. She cherished each of her friendships that formed during the various seasons of her life and flourished in the love they all gave her.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Keith Marshall for his many years of care, support and friendship.
Surviving besides her husband William are: daughters, Tracy Colucci of Canandaigua and Tammy (Kenneth) Kline of Verona; son, Gary (Deniece) Zeller of Lee Center; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Lydia) Zeller, Eric (Paige) Zeller, Nicholas (Brenna) Colucci, Alyssa Colucci, Trevor Kline, Emily Kline and Anneliese Kline; three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Zeller, Benjamin Zeller and Giovanni Colucci; sister, Pauline “Polly” Shaw of Bliss; brother, Francis “Butch” Closser of Avon and step sons, Scott (Tiffany) Newcomb of North Carolina and Sean (Shannon) Newcomb of North Carolina. She was predeceased by a brother, Murray Closser.
In keeping with Bliss’ wishes there will be no services or hours of visitation. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. Prior to her retirement, Marilyn was employed by USAirways in Reservations. She was a member of the New Hope Christian Community Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Silver Star #21, the Arthur S. Moran American Legion Auxiliary #66 and the Oneida Elks Auxiliary #767.
Surviving are: sons, Jeffrey S. (Christine) Baker of Roswell, Georgia and Thomas G. (Charmaine) Baker of Wampsville; daughters, Sheril A. Bloss of Oneida; step-son, Christopher (Susan) Miller of Utica; step-daughter, Virginia Miller of Oneida; her loving fiancé, Harry T. Young; six grandchildren, Lauren Baker, Meredith Baker, Dalton J. Marston; her daughter, Donna (Robert) Steckert of Hamilton, New Jersey; her son, Bryan Drahofsky of Ewing, New Jersey; her stepdaughters, Catherine Burleigh of Lynchburg, Virginia and Loralee (James) Bennett of Nixo, Missouri; her stepson, Robert (Shari) Marston of Glenstone, Missouri; her three grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Drahofsky, Daniel Disharoon and Robert Steckert, Jr.

Born in Oneida on November 17, 1940, he was the son of Anthony H. and Elsie Schmidtka McCormick. A lifelong resident of Oneida, Leverne was educated in St. Patrick’s School. He married Blanche Wickham Nelson in January 2001. Blanche died in 2011. Following her death, he reunited with his former wife Shirley Schmidtka.
Prior to his retirement, Leverne was employed as a truck driver for Mohawk Valley Oil Company. He had previously been employed with Oneida Limited Silversmiths and Queensboro Dairy.
Leverne was a life member of the Order of the Owls, Oneida Nest 1606 and the Newton Falls Sportsman Club. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Surviving are his children: Penny LeRoy, Roger (Kim) McCormick, Dennis (Linda) McCormick, Richard McCormick, William McCormick, Wendy (Ron) Purcell, Rose (Bob) Tubbs, Eric Schmidtka, Marjorie Schmidtka, John (Beverly) Nelson, Natalio McCormick, Jeremiah McCormick and Joe McCormick; daughters-in-law, Deanna McCormick and Kathy Nelson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Sheila Putman, Valarie Granger, Sherry Lee (Marvin) Granger and a brother, Anthony (Deborah) McCormick. He was predeceased by three sons, Douglas McCormick, James McCormick and Kenneth Nelson and a sister, Angela Granger.
