Obituary Preview: Bonnie S. Stewart, 70, of Saybrook, passed away at home surrounded by her family Tuesday, December 5, 2023.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2023, at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook, IL.
Memorial donations may be made to ASPCA or Autism Society.
Bonnie was born a daughter of Earl and Betty (Withers) Bradd. She married Randall Stewart on August 11, 1972. He survives.
Also surviving are her children, Danielle (Conley) Wright and Bradd (Heather) Stewart; grandchildren, Jericha Roberson, Tyler Hawkins, Joseph (Jasmin) Wright, Clint Wright, Devon Fenton, Clayton Smith, and Meadow Stewart; three great-grandchildren; brother, Jim (Angela) Bradd; fur babies, Sterling and Lucy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, in-laws and cousins whom she loved as her own.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Bonnie was born to be a grandma. She loved to be in the kitchen cooking and baking, and took great pride in family gatherings. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Illini Basketball fan. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Throughout her life she worked as a CNA for many years, a massage therapist, and owned the Four Seasons Cafe in Saybrook. Bonnie loved getting up every morning to meet her friends for coffee and catch up on the news of the town. Above all, she loved fiercely, and was a great protector of those she loved. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.

Leonard was born June 15,1943, in Bellflower, a son of Timothy and Myrl (Harlan) Sandage and was raised by his beloved uncle and aunt Walter and Nellie Sandage.
He married Karen Mathews on January 31, 1964, in Downs, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife, Karen of Saybrook; children, Rodney (Susan) of Bloomington and Lori Ann (Joe) Bradbury of Terre Haute, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Katlyn (Connor) Garth, Corissa Knecht, Elaina Knecht, Joseph Knecht, Dawson Bradbury, Owen Bradbury, and Mason Bradbury; several nieces and nephews; sisters, Minnie Thorndyke of Saybrook, Helen Roth of Medford, Wisconsin, Linda Moody of Melvin, and Marsha (Keith) Perry of Cooksville; and his beloved dogs, Biscuit and Gravy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence; daughter, Shirley Knecht; infant granddaughter, Ashley Knecht; brothers-in-law, Daryl Thorndyke, Ronald Roth, Michael Moody, and Jerry Mathews.
Leonard was a livestock grain farmer, raising registered Simmental cattle.
He loved to watch his children participate in sports and cattle shows.
Leonard was an avid antique tractor collector and enjoyed going to tractor shows and farm sales. He enjoyed decorating outside for every holiday and planting thousands of flowers in the fall for all to enjoy.

Darrell L. Cozad - October 15, 1929 - September 30, 2023

Obituary Preview: Darrell L. Cozad was born on October 15, 1929, to Henry and Nora (nee Eaglin) Cozad. He died on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at his home in Arlington Heights surrounded by his loving family.
Darrell was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. Darrell taught as a high school teacher for 31 years at East Alton Wood River High School. Over that time, he continued his own education and obtained a master’s degree in education.
He was a member of the East Alton Methodist Church where he served the church’s many missions through his involvement in United Methodist Men, lay leader, food share program, volunteering for the Habitat for Humanity by acting as the local chapter’s treasurer, and lead an adult Sunday school discussion group for over 20 years.
Darrell generously gave his time to the church and its members by helping with mowing of lawns, driving to doctor appointments, visiting members in the hospital, and many other needed tasks. As a young person, Darrell enjoyed photography and set up his own dark room for photo development. Another passion in Darrell’s life was baseball and his favorite team, St. Louis Cardinals.
Darrell is survived by his children, Leah (George) Augustyniak and Brian (Linda) Cozad; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Cozad; his grandchildren Lauren Cozad, Breean (Bill) Anderson, Thomas Cozad and Anna Cozad as well as his great-grandchild Gwendolyn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his spouse of 59 years, Faye Elaine Cozad (nee Brown); his son Craig Cozad as well as his parents. Darrell also preceded in death by his six siblings. Two brothers, Wilbur Cozad and Gerald Cozad; four sisters; Bonnie Vaughn, Jesse Belcher, Wanda Hale and Shirley Carter.
Visitation Friday, October 6, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 North Arlington Heights Road (4 blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, IL 60004. Visitation will also be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, 302 East Lincoln Street, Saybrook, IL 61770 with Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. followed by a Graveside Committal Service at Riverside Cemetery in Saybrook.

Obituary Preview: Jean Marie Williamson, 94, of Saybrook, passed away on 9-28-2023. She was born May 20, 1929, in Sparta, Tennessee to James H. Shubert and Elizabeth Shubert, Saybrook, Il. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Richard Lewis Williamson, three sons, Gerald L. Williamson,and Thomas L. Williamson (Candy), a baby, John, son-in-law Verl Jr. Jamison, Brothers James Shubert, Tom Shubert, Abe Shubert, Carl Shubert; and sisters Aline Hittle and Rose Mounts.
She leaves two daughters, Peggy Clark (Mark) and Barbara Nunamaker (Delmar), both of Saybrook, Grandchildren, Jerry Williamson, Jr. (Liz), Carlisle, South Carolina, Jason Williamson (Janet) LeRoy, Bryon Williamson (Becca), Brandon Jamison (Leah), Ryan Jamison (Dusty), Casey Williamson, all of Saybrook, Heather Steidinger (Chad), Sibley and 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and grand dog Oliver.
Jean came to Indiana with her family from Tennessee and helped her grade school teacher grade papers. She taught her sister to ride a bike and drive a car. The family later moved to the country west of Gibson City, where she worked at the Delco and met her husband, Lewis. Later mom worked as a maid for an attorney in Bloomington. Mom and Dad were married on Feb 13, 1948, and moved to Saybrook. Lewis died in 2003.
While raising her four children, she also babysat for years, hung wallpaper for her home and family and friends, permed other ladies hair, and volunteered at fundraisers for the school making doll cakes, which were also a favorite of her daughters. She made our Barbie Doll clothes, and sock monkey dolls for her family and other children. She was also a great cook. Mom loved her church (Wesbein United Methodist Church in Saybrook) where she was a member for over 70 years, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and arranged luncheons and dinners and attended evening circle.
She loved children, and liked being called Grandma Jean to all of them. She was also a member of the Womens Auxiliary many for years, and Red Hat Club.
A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 11:00 am. with Rev. Wayne Giermann officiating. Memorials can be to the WUMC, Saybrook. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce, Saybrook is in charge.
We loved her with all our hearts. She is in the arms of Angels now.

Ronald was born on April 2, 1941, in Saybrook, IL, a son of Calvin and Lillian (Hammel) Stauffer.
Surviving are two daughters, Denise (Shaun) Foutch of Reynolds, IN, and Stacie (Brad) Talley of Saybrook, IL; one brother, Rex (Jan) Stauffer of Bloomington, IL; one sister, Nelda Jordan of Gibson City, IL; grandchildren, Michael (Jamie) Studholme of Greenfield, IN, and Cole (Nicole) Foutch of Buffalo, IN; and three great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers.
Ronald was a US Army veteran. He was a member of the Wesbein United Methodist Church and Saybrook American Legion. Ronald was Mayor of Saybrook for over 20 years. He retired from ISU after 40 plus years. Ronald loved to fish, taking yearly trips to Michigan, but most of all he loved his family. He was always known for throwing the biggest cookouts in town for all family and friends.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Wesbein United Methodist Church, Saybrook, IL, from 10a.m. – 12 Noon. Her memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at the church with Pastor Wayne Giermann celebrating. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook, IL, following the service. Memorials may be made to the Wesbein United Methodist Church, or to the Indian Springs Golf Association in her memory. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook, IL, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Della was born on January 3, 1927, a daughter of Frank Douglas and Nellie Irene Teager Campbell. She married Emery Edwin Tipsord on April 19, 1947, in Saybrook, IL; he preceded her in death on December 5, 1980.
Surviving are her children, Martin (Diane Pick) Tipsord, Saybrook, IL; Christine “Teena” Weidner, Bloomington, IL; Barbara (Rodney) Todd, Crossville, TN, and Danvers, IL. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Lilo (Tom Ealy) Tipsord, Mahomet, IL; sister, Twyla Terven, Tucson, AZ; two grandchildren, Emiley (Jason) Steffes, and Connor (Ashton) Todd; as well as three great-grandchildren, Gracie and Ruthie Steffes and Ezra Todd.
Della was preceded in death by both of her parents; son, Stanley Tipsord; sister, Louise Peterson; son-in-law, Joe Weidner; daughter-in-law, Linda Tipsord; and grandson, Daniel Tipsord Weidner.
She was a longtime member of the Wesbein United Methodist Church; Indian Springs Recreation Association (Life-Time member); American Legion Auxiliary; The 1934 Club; and Red Hat Society.
Della spent her entire life in the Saybrook area except for a few years when she worked in Chicago during World War II. She graduated from Saybrook High School, class of 1944. She enjoyed her work as the Editor of the Saybrook Gazette, and a stringer for The Pantagraph.

Kerry was born on July 26, 1959, in Gibson City, to Truman Philip and Bonnie Mae (Johnson) Pfoff. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Theresa (nee. Benjamin) Pfoff on May 14, 1982. She survives.
He is also survived by his sons, Danny (Darby) of Mahomet and Kory Pfoff of Normal; grandchildren, Margo and Quincy Pfoff; siblings, Kevin (Carol) Pfoff and Kathy (Dennis) Apgar; brothers and sisters-in-law, Janey Hansen, Richard (Kellie) Benjamin, Kevin (Jan) Benjamin, Greg (Susan) Benjamin, Bob (Debbie) Benjamin, Molly (Wally) Weppler, Amy (Jeff) Teske; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Kendall; his parents, Phil and Bonnie Pfoff; in-laws, Robert and Barbara Benjamin; sister-in-law, Jeralyn Benjamin; brothers-in-law, Don Hansen and Robin Genzel; and nephew, Jeff Hansen.
He was a jack of all trades and DIYer extraordinaire. He was previously employed as a carpenter as well as at Mitsubishi car plant and Ironwood Golf Course. He loved fishing, hunting, and coaching his son’s youth sports teams. Near to his heart were Ridgeview sports, the Fighting Illini and the Sons of the American Legion.
Everyone who knew and loved Kerry is invited to celebrate his life with his family and friends on Wednesday, April 19, 2023. Dixie was born February 13, 1932, in Saybrook, IL, a daughter of Earl and Maude (Hyre) Crotinger. She married Timothy Messick in 1950. He passed away in 1980. She later married Marland Riblet in 1990. He passed away in 2009.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Coile of Saybrook, IL; grandchildren, Brandie Burleson, Brady Coile, Josh Messick, Nichole McKnight, Charles Taylor, Kevin Heideman, and Kyle Heideman; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was also preceded in death by two children, Chris Messick and Robin Heideman; and two brothers, Ralph and Bill Crotinger.
Dixie was a member of the Wesbein United Methodist Church. She worked as a cook at the Saybrook/Arrowsmith School for many years. She enjoyed having her morning coffee with her friends and listening to the Statler Brothers. Most of all she loved cooking family meals. Dixie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother; great-great-grandmother; and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.

David D. "Dave" Johnson - June 30, 1937 - February 12, 2023

Obituary Preview: On Sunday, February 12, 2023, at 5pm David (Dave) D. Johnson went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was born June 30th, 1937, in Saybrook, IL to John Wilbur and Minnie Tressie Avonell Johnson. He was a graduate of Saybrook High School in 1955. Dave joined the US Marine Corps and served four years. Dave married Ruby L. Thacker on January 18th, 1959. Together they raised two daughters Lee Ann (Annie) and Carol (Carrie).
Dave had a passion for family and traveling. He loved music and was known by many for his quick wit, smile, singing and compassionate spirit. He retired from Humko in Champaign, IL where he worked as an Engineer Service Tech. At that time, he also served as a union steward for the Local IBEW. He was a member of the American Legion and attended church at Gibson City Bible Church in Gibson City IL.
Dave is survived by his loving wife Ruby and two daughters Lee Ann & John Barnett, and Carol Durham, along with 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. His brother Rodney Johnson & family, sisters-in-law Lavern Johnson & daughters, Carol/ Mike Townsend & family, Donna Thacker & family, brother-in-law Gerald/Shirley Thacker & son, along with many other family and friends.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson Ross Whitson and 4 brothers James (Jim), Larry, Robert (Bob), Jean Johnson as well as many other family members.
Services will be held February 27th at the Gibson City Bible Church with visitation starting at 10am and service at 11am. Graveside service will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Saybrook. Memorials may be made to the Gibson City Bible Church.

Ozz was born on August 28, 1938, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Floyd and Lois Trimble Gosnell. He married Judith Childers on October 16, 1981, in Bloomington, Illinois.
Ozz was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather of a large, blended family.
He leaves his wife, Judy of 41 years; daughter, Deena Meyer; two grandchildren, Bryson and Breann; stepchildren, Keith (Monica) Reynolds; Darla (Bill Douglas) Stegar; Cheryl Waltz; Cathy (Doug) Gosnell; Jim (Dee Rolson) Waltz; Bill (Nancy) Reddick, and Lisa Lewis; 20 step grandchildren; 19 step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dee (Lee) Wendell and Linda Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Edward Waltz; son-in-law, Matt Meyer; two brothers, Dewey and Woodrow Gosnell; and sister, Irene Clow.
Ozz was a retired automobile body repair man. He served in the United States Army.

Butch was born on January 25, 1940, in LaPorte, Indiana, a son of Ralph V. and Ethel M. Wright Thorndyke. He married Minnie M. Sandage on August 31, 1958, in Saybrook, Illinois.
Butch is survived by his wife, Minnie M. Thorndyke of Saybrook, Illinois; his children, Cheryl (Terry) Lange of Saybrook, Illinois; Randall (Heidi) Thorndyke of Carlock, Illinois; Daniel (Kimberly) Thorndyke of Colfax, Illinois; and Troy (Lisa) Thorndyke of Saybrook, Illinois; 11 grandchildren, Kristina Thomas; Mark (Amanda) Streenz; Bethany Quick; Tiffany (Zach) Kirkpatrick; Tiaunna Thorndyke; Amanda (Ray) Henderson; Benjamin (Kate) Thorndyke; Miranda (Michael) Morefield; Jacob (Jessica) Thorndyke; Courtney Thorndyke; and Zachary Thorndyke; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Merlin Thorndyke of Eureka, Illinois; twin sister, Darlene Maxwell of Bloomington, Illinois; and brother William (Nancy) Thorndyke of Monroe City, Missouri. Butch had many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin grandsons, Nicholas and Nathaniel Thorndyke; son-in-law, Thomas Streenz; and three brothers.
Butch was a diesel mechanic at Coile’s Diesel Garage in Saybrook for 40 years. He later worked at Central Illinois Arborist Eureka, Illinois. He was a sexton at Riverside Cemetery, Saybrook, Illinois for many years.
He was a member of the Wesbein United Methodist Church, Saybrook, Illinois; Central States Threshermen’s Reunion, Pontiac, Illinois, and the I & I Antique Tractor Club in Penfield, Illinois, and a former volunteer fireman for the Saybrook Fire Department.
Butch loved to travel, go to tractor shows, loved old iron, enjoyed Christmas, spending time with family and he never knew a stranger.

Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
Robert was born on March 3, 1932, in Gibson City, a son of John Wilbur and Avonelle M. Roberts Johnson. He married Laverne on February 21, 1960, in Saybrook.
He is survived by his wife, Laverne Jane Johnson of Saybrook; two daughters, Melissa (Shane) Halcomb of Mansfield, and Stephanie (Andrew) Hoffman of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Emily and Paige Halcomb and Delaney Johnson; two brothers, David (Ruby) Johnson of Saybrook, and Rodney Johnson of Saybrook. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jerald, James and Larry Johnson.
Robert was a Navy Veteran and was in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He retired from the Navy after 25 years, and also retired from Illinois State University as a service worker. Following retirement, he drove cars for Sam Leman in Bloomington.
He was a member of the Wesbein United Methodist Church, Saybrook; David Humphrey Daniel American Legion Post 421, Saybrook; and Gibson City Masonic Lodge 733.

Obituary Preview: Joann (Hayes) Pearson, 90, passed away at 1:17 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born in Jacksonville, IL on January 10, 1932; the third of six children born to Louis and Ruth (Howerton) Hayes.
Joann grew up on the family farm near Butler, IL and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1949. She and Robert Pearson, son of John and Eula (Crites) Pearson, were married on November 4, 1950. In 1958 the couple settled in Saybrook, IL, where they lived until moving to Decatur, IL in 2021.
Joann is survived by her husband of almost 72 years, son Terry (Sharon) Pearson of Forsyth, IL, and daughter Jody (Larry) Retter of Normal, IL. She was “Grandma” to grandsons, Michael (Dr. Matt Hale) Retter of Ft Worth, TX; Ryan (Neda) Retter of Bloomington, IL; Bobby (Katy) Pearson of Decatur, IL; and Jeremy Retter of Normal, IL. She was “Grandma Jo” to her three great-grandsons, who were all very special to her. In addition, Joann was a step-grandma to Paula Retter, Chris Retter, and their families. Also surviving Joann are her sisters Georgia Eller of Nokomis, IL and Joy Lemon of Irving, IL; sisters-in-law Sharol Hayes of Butler, IL and Janice (John) Pearson of Hillsboro, IL; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents and three siblings: Louise (Hayes) Westcott, Earl Hayes, and Jerry Hayes.
In 1965, Joann began working in the office at Central Soya in Gibson City, IL. After 11 years in the office, she moved to the position of laboratory clerk, from which she retired in December 1992. She was a member of the Saybrook Wesbein United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society, and the Saybrook American Legion Auxiliary.
Joann loved to travel and spend time with her family and friends. She was lovingly referred to as “Mums” by the Pearson Racing Team, with whom she shared many road trips and adventures throughout the years. She enjoyed playing card games (especially double pinochle), completing crossword puzzles, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She was an avid birdwatcher, always keeping the birdfeeders full for all her feathered friends.
A public visitation will be held at Saybrook Christian Church in Saybrook on Thursday, September 15th from 5–7 pm. A graveside service will be held at Ware’s Grove Cemetery in rural Butler at 12:00 pm on Friday, September 16th. Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home Saybrook is in charge of arrangements.
