Betty Lou was born to Harold K. and Doris A. (Gaskill) Remmers on June 27, 1951 at John Warner Hospital in Clinton, IL. She grew up on the family farm where her father and grandfather were born.

She was baptized and a member of DeLand Christian Church during her youth. She currently was a member of Heyworth Christian Church.

She is survived by her son, Jeff (Angel) Terrell, Bloomington, IL; sisters, Allyne (Virgil) Dasher and Beverly Cox; nieces, Elizabeth (Tim) Halpin, and Caroline (Jerry) Hyatt and their son, Elias; nephews, Destin (Lori) Dasher and their daughters, Haylee, Amanda, and Danielle, Derek (Heather) Dasher and their two daughters, Julia and Leigha, and son, Cole.

Betty attended DeLand-Weldon Schools, graduating in 1969. She was a member of school choir, band, and Girls’ Athletic Association. She loved music and spending time with her girlfriends, especially all the great slumber parties. She also attended Illinois State University for three years.

Betty Lou worked for Country Companies for 34 years. She then worked another five years at different companies. She fully retired in December 2011.

Mike was born August 4, 1944 in Clinton, IL the son of John and Lena (Hoge) Perkins. He married Carolyn Carr October 21, 1967 in LeRoy, IL.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Perkins, Clinton, IL, children, Angie (Diann Thumser) McConkey, Madison, WI; Jill (Bill) Stewart, Walnut, IL; three grandchildren Kayla (Brian) Davenport, Michael (Lindsey) Perkins, and Dane Stewart; siblings Marcia (Howard) Owens, Sullivan, IL; Connie (Clifford) Dobbs, Sullivan, IL; John (Carol) Perkins, Springfield, IL; Jeff (Pam) Perkins, Minonk, IL and sister-in-law Paula Perkins, Sullivan, IL.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brian Perkins; and brother, Jim Perkins.

Mike was a long-time farmer and known to have the straightest and cleanest rows in DeWitt Co. He was an over-the-road semi-truck driver that drove from coast to coast. He was a member of the Clinton Eagles Lodge, the DeLand American Legion Post #102, and the DeWitt County Farm Bureau. He was a Little League coach and previous school board member at DeLand – Weldon Schools. He served his country in the US Marine Corp Reserves. He was a great storyteller and an avid sports fan who never missed his kids’ and grandkids’ games. Mike loved and was so proud of his family. He was a very generous man who would help anyone at any given time. He was small in size, yet mighty in life and will be missed by all.

The family will have a private service, and Norma will be buried with her husband at Texas Township Cemetery, Clinton, IL. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, IL has been entrusted with arrangements.

Norma is survived by her son-in-law Sam Strange of Heyworth, IL, grandchildren: Jeremy Strange (Ashley), Casey Strange (Jessica), Hillary Gordon (Justin) and five great-grandchildren: Luc, Nic, Jake, Zach Strange (Jeremy) and Myles Gordon (Hillary).

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George Wilkins, daughter Christine Strange, son George Edward Wilkins, daughter Sally Boeving (Sylmar, CA), and brothers Lellyn, Donley, Franklin and Robert.

Norma was well known and loved for her cooking. Every family member had a favorite baked good or dish, and Norma enjoyed cooking for her family. Norma was the service manager at Eisner’s in Clinton, IL from 1960 to 1977.

Survivors include her children, Russell Hickman, Clinton, IL and Bryan (Cathy) Hickman, Downs, IL; seven grandchildren: Krista (Tallon) Myers; Nolan Hickman; Josh Hickman; Chelsey (Isaac) Fabris; Clara Hickman; Matthew Hickman; Jaya Hickman; and Faith (Jayden) Thomas, four great-grandchildren: Evelynn Hickman; Quinn Myers; Finn Thomas; and Cora Ruth Thomas, and brother, Larry (Lori) Rich, Weldon, IL.

She was preceded in death by parents and granddaughter, Tori Hickman.

Linda loved working at the YMCA for over 32 years. Most off all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Bob Van Apeldoorn, a long-time resident of Clinton, Illinois, passed away at the age of 79 on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. Bob was born October 7, 1944, in Den Dolder, Netherlands to Hendrik and Anthonia Van Apeldoorn. Bob proudly served in the Royal Dutch Air Force, prior to migrating to the U.S.

Upon arrival in the U.S., Bob started working for a natural gas conversion company that traveled across the states, until he made residency in Clinton, IL.

Using his unique mechanical skills, he was later hired by the Clinton Power Plant in the 1970's to help with construction.

Being a car-aficionado and hard worker, Bob worked for Shell Downs Motors, then opened his own business, Bob’s Import Sales and Service, where he specialized in foreign cars for many years and enjoyed collecting many of his own.

Bob was the proud father of Gina (Jason) Defebaugh, Jessie (Kat) Van Apeldoorn, and Erik (Tracy) Van Apeldoorn. He was Grandpa to Taelor, Morgan, Rylee, Brently, and Great Grandpa to Hazel. Bob had one younger brother, the late Dirk Van Apeldoorn. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Gea Van Apeldoorn, a nephew, Ray Van Apeldoorn, and a cousin, Carla Van Apeldoorn, all still of the Netherlands.

Bob loved to travel and went to his share of auto races and Mississippi golf courses. Bob was a past Exalted Ruler of the Clinton Elks Club 785 and enjoyed spending time with friends there, and at the Clinton Eagles Club.

Bob left his mark in life and will be missed by all who knew him.

Memorials may be made to: The Dewitt County EMS, The Kenney Fire Department, or The PC Project (Pachyonychia Congenita).

Jeff worked in agriculture his entire life, the last seven years as manager of Randolph Ag Service in Randolph, IL. He could fix or repair anything and enjoyed family vacations on Fort Myers Beach. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and the farming community.

Gregory was a member of the Wapella Christian Church. He was a chemical dependency counselor in Bloomington, IL for over 20 years. Gregory loved to ride his Harley Davidson and tell old stories. He had recently celebrated receiving his 40 year pin from Alcoholics Anonymous. Gregory loved spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Max.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda K. Bray, Decatur, IL, children, John D. (Gail) Bray, Cerro Gordo, IL; James M. (Rhonda) Bray, Warrensburg, IL; stepdaughter, Stephanie D. Klukis, Oreana, IL, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, siblings, Sue (Mark) Smith, Eau Claire, WI; and Bruce (Sarah) Bray, Tampa, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Donald was a US Army Veteran serving during Vietnam. He retired from Caterpillar after 38 ½ years. He enjoyed yardwork and was an avid motorcyclist. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially spoiling his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen VanOrman, Clinton, IL; children: Vickie Reynolds, Bloomington, IL; Jeff (Jan) VanOrman, Union Grove, AL; Valorie (Eric) Rempe, Clinton, IL; six grandchildren: Ryan Reynolds, Seth Reynolds, Brian Rempe, Alex Rempe, Andrew Rempe, and Kathleen VanOrman; seven great-grandchildren: Scarlett Rempe, Graham Rempe, Otto Rempe, Hayden Rempe, Gage Reynolds, Grady White, and Taylor Hennessy; five great-great-grandchildren also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Rovenia M. Moles.

Russel served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years one of which in Korea obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He worked at Illinois Central Gulf for 10 years before retiring from Firestone in Decatur, IL after 30 years of service. Russel loved Blue Grass music, camping, and giving candy to his friends and family. Russel volunteered at the Clinton Christian Academy and was known as the “snackman” to the students.

Surviving are 2 sisters; Beverly (John) Reynolds, Clinton, IL, Debbie Bair, Florida, 10 nieces and nephews, 24 great-nieces and nephews and 31 great-great nieces and nephews.

Barbara graduated from Clinton High School. After graduation, Barbara worked for the telephone company before starting a long career at Revere. She eventually became the Buyer for the company before retiring after 39 years. Barbara made many special friends at Revere.

She enjoyed traveling, baking, reading, movies, crocheting, and crafting. Barbara’s friends and family benefited from the fruits of her labor. She baked fabulous pies for family gatherings, and crocheted afghans for each of her family members.

Barbara will be missed by so many who loved her dearly. She was a special lady.

Lois was born in 1938 in DeWitt County at the family’s farm home located between Lane and Weldon, IL. She was the fourth and last child of Franz A. “Pete” and Irma C. (Brennan) Roberts.

Lois was married to John “Bill” Taylor from 1955 to 1980. She married Allan Bell in 1990.

Survivors include her husband, Allan; daughter, Deanna Taylor Milanski; son, Terry Taylor; stepdaughter, Amy Bell Calhoun; stepson, Jim Bell; plus two unofficially adopted daughters: Vicky Dunaway Niles and Amanda Bruce Krodel; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren plus two step great-great-grandchildren. On the Roberts branch of the family, she had 80 living nieces and nephews (not counting the spouses or the step nieces and/or nephews). She was a great, great, great, great aunt to five of them as of 2023. She also had seven nieces and nephews on the Bell branch and 22 on the Taylor branch for a total of 109 nieces and nephews.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Debra Kay Taylor; her sister Betty (Roberts) Rau and Floy (Roberts) Harmon; her brother, Robert Roberts; and her brothers-in-law Alex Stogsdill, Gerald Rau, and David Arthur Harmon.

During her working years she worked for numerous companies and held various positions including employment Manager at Revere Copper & Brass, Inc. and Employment Specialist at Illinois Power Company’s nuclear power plant. Her favorite job was when she was 71 years old, she kept her great-grandson Dylan Taylor for two days a week from the time he was eight weeks old until he went to Kindergarten. Obituary Preview: William Wayne Lichtenberger, age 90, went home to be with his Lord on October 28, 2023 in Mesa, AZ. Wayne was born on September 25, 1933 in Carmi, Illinois to William and Gladys Lichtenberger.

He grew up in Carmi, and was in the band in high school, the start of a lifelong interest in music. He attended the University of Illinois, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, and then earned his PhD in the same field. In 1955, he married the love of his life Bonnie Arlene Hickerson and they welcomed two sons, Erik (1959) and Karl (1963). In 1963, he moved with his young family to California, working as an assistant Professor of electrical engineering at the University of California-Berkeley. In 1964, he was put in charge of Project Genie, from which modern server technology was developed, and was also involved with some of the earliest development of computer networking, which eventually led to what is now the Internet. He later helped start Berkeley Computer Corporation, and then moved to Hawaii in 1971 as a Professor of Electrical Engineering, where he continued to work in the field of networking. He returned to California in 1979 to work in private industry for Hewlett-Packard, Ungermann Bass and Cisco Corporation. In 1991, he moved to Redmond, WA where he finished his career working for XKL Systems. In the early 2000’s, Wayne moved to Gold Canyon, AZ, first as a winter visitor and later as a full-time resident. He finally retired at age 83, having worked from home for the last several years. Wayne was active in the Christian church his entire life, serving as an Elder at both Pleasant Hill Christian Church and Kaimuki Christian church. He was an active musician in the church as well and taught many to sing as leader of multiple choirs. In Hawaii, he also started a long career as a percussionist in community bands in Hawaii, California, Washington and lastly Arizona. They had two children, Marilyn Annette (Ron Craig) and Gregory Dale. She had one grandson, Miles Hunter Craig (Angela) and two great grandchildren Piper and Hunter Craig. Her parents, husband, son, sisters, Jolene (Myrle) Peacock and Donna (Merle) Weaver and brother, David Eaton (Tootie) all preceded her in death. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews.

Joyce graduated from Clinton High School in 1947. She and Dale moved to his family farm in Beason in 1952. She worked as a clerk at Werkman’s Grocery Store in Beason, a soil tester for Marquis Farm Supply in Clinton, receptionist and accountant for Western Implement Dealership in Beason, and Burwell Oil in Lincoln. She helped manage the farm on her computer and enjoyed documenting genealogy on her computer. She and her husband enjoyed being in a couple’s pinochle group with dear friends as well as a ladies pinochle group with several dear lady friends for many years. She was a member of the Beason United Methodist Church and participated in many dinners and events at the church when her kids were growing up. She was especially proud of her grandson Miles and loved being entertained by great grandchildren Piper and Hunter who called her GG.

Nancy was born December 11, 1957 in Normal to Donald and Patricia J. Reynolds. She was the older sister to her siblings Marty and Jim.

She graduated as valedictorian of Deland-Weldon High School in 1976 and went on to study nursing at Illinois Wesleyan University, graduating in 1980. Throughout her life, Nancy worked for many years as a caring nurse.

Nancy married Joe Howe on November 28, 1981 in Weldon. Together with her devoted husband, Nancy built a life she was proud of and honored God in the way she lived. She raised four daughters who loved her and cared for her. The pride of Nancy’s life were her children, the Howe girls. Her girls all grew up to be strong women who love their family like Nancy did.

Nancy was a strong believer who faced her challenges in life with grace, courage, and determination. In 1985, she had a young daughter at home and was pregnant with her second while she bravely fought brain cancer. Nancy and Joe went on to have two more daughters and many blessed years together. The couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in 2021.

Nancy especially enjoyed her summers with her family. Every August, she and Joe loaded up the Suburban for a road trip and made fond memories. The Colorado mountains had a special place in her heart, and she traveled there many times after going there for her honeymoon.

She loved living on a farm in the country. She had a passion for vegetable gardening, canning, and flowers. Her flower bed was a particular point of pride and included her favorites like petunias and chrysanthemums. She lovingly tended strawberries, apples, peaches, lilacs and peonies. She was a skilled cook known for her sticky buns, orange jello, yum yum coffee cake, and pasta shells, among many others. Nancy’s homemade applesauce and strawberry jam were big hits in the Howe house.

Nancy was a talented piano player and played for several years at Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church. She enjoyed listening to Christian music especially Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant.

Nancy appreciated her three sons-in-law and everything they did for her. Whether they were providing home maintenance or delicious foods, she sure thought a lot of them.

If her four girls were the pride of her life, her four grandsons were her prize. They made her smile every time she saw them, whether that was playing on the swing set at her house, or going to their activities which ranged from drag racing to trombone to baseball. Those boys could do no wrong in their Gram’s eyes. Nancy adored her husband and family and they will miss her every day.

She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Patricia J. Reynolds, mother-in-law, Dona Howe, and father-in-law J. Maurice “Maurie” Howe.

Survivors include Nancy’s husband Joe, her children Addie Howe, Elise (Austin) Perry, Lindsey (Jason) Pritchett, and Sarah (Tyler) Roth; grandchildren Dylan and Tanner Pritchett, Brady and Logan Roth; father Don Reynolds; sister Marty (Frank Sugent) Forrest, and brother James (Tim Acito) Reynolds.
