She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Willie D.
Allen. Willie was employed many years as a healthcare worker. She was a faithful member of St. Matthew the Faithful Church, where she served as the church Mother and president of the
Hospitality Committee. On June 19, 2017 God called and Willie answered and was led by His hand into the place in which He prepared for her. God granted her the time to seek, trust and believe there is

Reverend George “Bubba” Homes, Sr. was born on February 20, 1930 to the parentage of the late Mr. Gibson Holmes, Sr. and Mrs. Beatrice George Walker. He departed this life on June 12, 2017.
He joined Rachel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was a faithful member until his health declined. He was licensed and ordained as a minister at Rachel Missionary Baptist Church by the late Reverend D. E. Kelly. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Mrs. Carolyn Holmes for 35 years.
George was a dedicated truck driver for Hazlehurst Mills for many years. He also worked with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department and Road Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Standford Isom and March Jeremiah (Chap) Holmes; and brother, Gibson (T. T.) Holmes, Jr.

born on May 31, 1974 to the late Alvin and Dr.
Vivian Williams Chance. He attended the public schools in Baxley, Georgia and graduated from Appling County Comprehensive High School in 1992. After High School Alvin attended Fort Valley State University and Armstrong University. Early in life, he was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and was affiliated with Crusaders for Christ and Pentecostal
Holiness Church. On June 14, 2008, he was united in holy matrimony to Ida Hines. He was a dedicated husband who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His favorite pastime was watching and attending college football games, especially Florida State University Seminoles “GO NOLES!” Alvin spent many years as a professional truck driver. This profession afforded him the opportunity to travel across the United States. Later in life, he became a subcontractor with Infinite Possibilities Counseling Services where he served many at-risk youth. This job transition came as no surprise to many because Alvin “Champ” never failed to impart knowledge, encouragement, and reassurance to the younger
generation and whomever had an ear to hear. Alvin “Champ” was full of life. To know him or to be around him was to never know a dull moment. His enduring love and concern for others pushed him into an all familiar trail, blazed by his mother, of becoming a Licensed Insurance Agent for Primerica Financial Services. He was preceded in death by his parents,
Alvin and Dr. Vivian W. Chance. He graduated from Appling County Comprehensive High School in 1987 . Marlon spent many years in Gainesville, GA working at Johnson & Johnson and Makita after graduating from high school. Marlon moved back to Baxley to be closer to his family where he was a jailer and a machinist at a cabinet company. Lillie Mae Williams was born Lillie Mae Drake in Sweetwater Community, GA, Pierce County to the late Jim and Maggie Drake on February 5, 1919. Her parents migrated from the Carolinas in the early 1900’s. She was the second to the youngest of five siblings ( Willie James, Calvin, David, and Minnie and half-brother Sammy Barney.
She attended school in Southeast Georgia. In her early years she worked and lived an adventurous life in Jacksonville, Pompano Beach, Fort Myers and Miami, Florida. She was a traveling woman and eventually moved back to Georgia where she worked at American Cafe and in the community as a professional cook, housekeeper and nanny. She enjoyed cooking, traveling , reading, gardening and sharing wisdom.
She was an active member at First African Baptist Church and an active member of the community. Ms. Lillie made a lasting impression on anyone she came in contact with. There are a host of memories that were made over her 98 years of life.
Ms. Lillie leaves to cherish her memory : Three children, one son and two daughters: Johnny L. and served faithfully on the Usher’s Board until her health failed. She loved her children and grandchildren and she never upheld her
sons in any wrongdoing. Her sons stated “she was a mom that was not scared of her children…when she talked everyone listened.” After she gave you a spanking, she would say “run by me” so she

Mr. Roland Hayward Rooks - December 29, 1934 - March 19, 2017

Obituary Preview: Sunday morning, March 19, 2017, Mr. Roland Hayward Rooks was called to be with his Heavenly Father. Mr. Rooks was born December 29, 1934 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Althia and Henrietta C. Rooks of Appling County, Georgia.
Mr. Rooks attended and graduated from Baxley Training School in Baxley. He married his beloved wife of 60 years, Annie Bea, in December 1956. To this union four children were born, Bettye, Alla Jean, Kenneth and Terry.
He joined Harper Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age, where he served “faithfully and humbly.” He was a Trustee, member of the United Methodist Men, Sunday School, church custodian and served wherever needed. He “loved” the Lord and singing. He was also a member of a gospel singing group.
He loved people and his favorite saying to all was “Beautiful.” Mr. Rooks was employed at Cromer Chevrolet Dealership, Georgia Power Company and First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his nine siblings – Donald Rooks, Harold Rooks, Carzell Rooks, Thirkield Rooks, Reverend David Rooks, Pernell Rooks, Wilmatene Rooks, Elizabeth Tillman and Althia Cray.
Mr. Roland Rooks loved his family. He leaves to celebrate his legacy of love and devotion to his beloved wife, Annie Bea (who he affectionately called “Mama”); four children: Bettye Rooks-Waters, Alla “Puny” Graves, Kenneth Rooks and Terry “Old Man” Rooks; Sharee, Valencia and Chandra – who he loved as daughters; eight grandchildren: Austin (Chania) Waters, Victor Waters, Marcus (Samantha) Rooks, Victoria (Dexter) Kearney, Kyle Wynn, Malcolm Cray, Myles “Brother” Graves and Kenya “Suddah” Rooks; three great-grandchildren: Aniyla, Caleb and Savannah; one brother: Norman (JoAnn) Rooks; three sisters: Evelyn Isom, Alretta Wooten and Zelene (Reverend Columbus) Burns; three sisters-in-law: Ruby Lee Rooks, Eva Jean Johnson and Willie Mae Rooks. Mother Drissie Mae Howard Williams, affectionately known as “Mu” was born on November 6, 1921 to the late Stonewall Jackson Howard and Camilla Floyd Howard in Appling County, GA. On August 8, 1939, she married the late David “Bubba” Williams, Jr. who departed this life on September 2, 1985. She was saved at an early age and became a faithful member of the St. John Church of God In Christ in Baxley, GA. She served as an usher, member of the Kitchen Committee, and was appointed to serve as the Church Mother by the late Elder William Henry Solomon. Her life work was in service with hands and heart to All of God’s Children!
Her hobbies were sewing, quilting, gardening, fishing, canning, baby-sitting, traveling, spending time with family, and of course going to the flea market and giving Godly advice. She also loved baking- especially sweet potato pies and cornbread. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, Nathan Williams (son), LaShonda Williams (granddaughter), and a great-great-great granddaughter. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving children:
Two sons, Donald Williams of Baxley, GA and Dwight (Melissa) Williams of Dothan, AL. Five daughters: Johnola (late Wilbert) Robinson and Earline Collins of Daytona Beach, FL; Christine (Bart) Robinson of Baxley, GA; Margaret Williams of Locust Grove, GA; Sharon (Wilfred) Pace of Orangeburg, SC;
daughter in law, Avis Williams of Kinston, NC; a devoted sister, Mrs. Addie Hunter of Baxley, GA. and a God-daughter, Barbara Jackson of Columbus, GA. Obituary Preview: Shellie Eugene Cash, Sr. was born on July 2, 1929. At an early age, he married the late Margaret E. (James) Cash in 1948 and to this union were born eight children. After Margaret’s untimely death, he married Lora E. (Crosby) Cash in 1964, which added two children to that union.
As a young man, he was ordained as a deacon under the late Rev. D.E. Kelley at Rachel Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health failed him. He was an upstanding citizen in the community. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He joined the Baxley Police Department and dedicated 21 years of service. He was later deputized as the first black deputy with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department.
He had a love for his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, talking with his friends on his CB Radio, fishing and hunting and was blessed with one more opportunity to go fishing two weeks before his passing.
God unveiled His master plan and called Shellie home on October 29, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his parents—Ike Cash, Sr. and Blanche Dunham Dixon, son—Stanley Cash, daughter—Sarah Elaine Sharpe, great-grandson—Corey King, Jr., siblings—Idella Miller, Theola Allen, Mildred Climpson, and Ike Cash, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife: Lora E.
