Mr. John Willie Hines, Jr. - March 03, 1945 - January 17, 2022

Departed: 01/17/2022 (Savannah)
Obituary Preview: "He will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people's disgrace from all the earth. The LORD has spoken." Isaiah 25:8 The Legacy of Love A Time to be Born
On March 3, 1945, in Swainsboro, GA, God blessed John Willie Hines and Carrie Lee Johnson Hines with a son. They named him John Willie Hines, Jr. A Time to Live
John attended the local schools in the Screven County area and participated in the athletic program. He excelled in Football as the wide receiver which earned him recognition and trophies that remain in the school’s display cabinets today.  John graduated from Central High School in Sylvania, GA in 1965 and immediately enlisted in the United States Army.  He served three years active duty and close to 30 years in the U.S. Army National Guard Reserve. He was proud to become the first black 1st Sergeant in the Georgia National Army Guard. John believed in education, therefore, while in the Army National Guard, he continued his quest by enrolling in Continuing Education courses.  John studied at the University of Florida, Georgia Military College, and Savannah State University, studying mathematics. His love for sports offered him the opportunity to serve the youth in the Savannah Chatham County Community as a little league basketball and football coach. John also loved the Food Service Industry and he worked in that area at St. Joseph-Candler Hospital for more than 50 years. A Time to Serve
John accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and  joined Jordan Baptist Church in Oliver, GA. He later joined Savannah Deliverance Center under the leadership of Apostle Charles Wilkerson, Sr. He faithfully served on the planning committee for the Chief Apostle’s Anniversary Dinner and later co-hosted the Pastor’s Anniversary. He and his wife, Phyllis were a team, working together in harmony serving God’s people. John also was an Ordained Deacon, President of the Businessmen’s Group, Finance Committee and a board member on The Supreme Council for Deliverance Evangelistic Centers of GA., Inc. A Time to Love At the age twenty-four, John met and married the love of his life, Phyllis Beaufort, on March 28, 1970. To this union, they gave birth to five children, one of which, Natasha, proceeded him in death as an infant. Deacon John Hines was a caring and supportive father and grandfather who loved his family dearly. He was a man of few words but when he spoke, his words were very impactful. One life lesson he consistently shared with his family was no matter where you go or what you accomplish “always remain humble.”
