Rachele Frances Zito - June 21, 1945 - March 23, 2024

Departed: 03/23/2024 (Bloomingdale)
Obituary Preview: Rachele Frances (Zamboni) Zito, age 78, of Carol Stream, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024.
Rachele's life can best be encapsulated by five words: Family, Faith, Friends, Food, and Fun. In her 78 years here with us, she experienced an abundance of each.
Family: Rachele was born to Candido and Mildred (latarola) Zamboni. She had a humble and loving homelife, the daughter of a grave digger and an incredibly talented homemaker. She was raised in Melrose Park, IL with her older brother John Zamboni (deceased), twin brother, Jim (Jan) Zamboni, and younger sister Rubina (Jack, deceased) Oremus, who lovingly cared for her and prepared her favorite meals while she was ill. She attended Our Lady of Mt Carmel Grammar School, Nazareth Academy High School, and also studied fashion and design at the Ray-Vogue College of Design in Chicago.
Rae married Fred Zito in 1966 and soon after welcomed her daughter Candice (Jack) Gilhooly and Mia (deceased) (Steve) Koslow. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren, Meghan, Jack, and Claire Gilhooly and Maddie and Tyler Koslow. "Nani" was a frequent spectator and the biggest fan at their performances and sporting events. Auntie Rae also adored her nephew John Oremus, nieces, Gina Brinckerhoff and Lisa Pawelczyk, and her great-nieces and great-nephew, Emily and Audrey Brinckerhoff and Ella and Jacob Pawelczyk.
Rae was blessed to be cared for by the most loving caregiver, Lourdes Caybot, over the past few months.
Faith: Rae's devotion to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel continued well beyond her days as a student at the school. Following in her mother's footsteps, she made countless candle houses that were carried during the procession on Our Lady of Mount Carmel's Feast Day. She was also a parishioner at Sacred Heart Parish in Melrose Park and was very active with the Womens' Club, served as the PTO President, and played a vital role organizing the annual St. Joseph's Table. When she moved to Carol Stream, she joined Corpus Christi parish and became a Eurcharistic Minister.
Friends: Rae was a people person and enjoyed being in the company of others. She never hesitated to make conversation with neighbors (or even complete strangers) and was genuinely interested in their lives and their families' lives. She shared many laughs and good times with her best friend, Grace Guarisco and cousin, Rochelle Roja. When an organization was seeking volunteers, Rae was often the first to raise her hand. In addition to church ministries, she was very involved with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer serving as both a walker and rest stop coordinator, she volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Winfield, and was both a baby cuddler in the NICU and made thousands of hats for newborn babies at Central DuPage Hospital. Rae was also extremely generous with her time and talent, and gifted many family members and
friends with her crocheted creations and sewing abilities. Food: Food was an integral part of Rae's life. There was never a shortage of delicacies that came out of her tiny kitchen and a "wedding was only as good as the food that was served at the event". She was famous for her mashed potatoes, Christmas cookies, and homemade pasta. She lived for Christmas Eve, and prepped for days to bring specialties that made a once-a-year appearance at the family's meatless Christmas Eve celebration. Her fried shrimp, fish salad, fried calamari, and cuddrurieddri (Italian potato donuts) were always featured in the center of the table. She also had a sweet tooth and loved all things dessert, especially turtle sundaes and
chocolate sodas (the Cock Robin version with the square vanilla ice cream from her days in Melrose Park were her favorite).
Fun: Rae’s motto in life was, "Live, Love, Laugh". She lived hard - always moving, working on a new project, and looking for the next adventure. She loved generously by sharing her many talents with her family and many friends. And, she laughed often because sometimes laughter helped to overshadow the hardships she had in life. She was the life of the party and lived to celebrate anything worth celebrating.
While Rae will be tremendously missed, she truly lived her life as a servant of God always giving generously to others.
Rae's visitation will be on Saturday, March 30 from 3-8 p.m. at Bucaro Funeral Home, 485 Army Trail Rd, Bloomingdale. Her life will be celebrated on Monday, April 1 at Corpus Christi Church with interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
