Marlene Kuzma - November 28, 1966 - April 05, 2024

Departed: 04/05/2024 (Erie)
Obituary Preview: Marlene ‘Mar’ Kuzma, 57, departed this world peacefully on April 5th at her home after a two-year battle with glioblastoma. The impact that Mar’s presence had on those around her was unparalleled. Born in Erie, Mar’s legacy began as she grew up and made lifelong friendships from her time at St. George and Villa Maria Academy where she is fondly remembered for her humorous personality. In high school, her family moved from Erie to Summit Twp, where she fell for ‘the boy down the road’ and proclaimed she would marry him someday. After graduating with her teaching degree from Gannon University, this became true, she married her love, Jeff Kuzma. The two were married for 34 years. They created a beautiful life together and started their family including three children, Jake Kuzma (Rachel), Kaylee Troyer (Zack), and Kelsey Kuzma (Andy Heard) and of course many dogs over the years. They built their home in Waterford as Mar continued her 25 year teaching career at Union City Elementary School.
Mar is remembered by all those she’s encountered for her vibrant spirit and the joy she emanated around others. She loved experiencing life with her family and friends. While she had three biologic children, it could be argued that she actually had hundreds because as a teacher, the students were never referred to as her students, but “her kids” and she spoke of them frequently and fondly. Outside of school, her time was often spent traveling to various sunny destinations, kayaking, playing cards, going to Bristol races, watching football and hockey games, yelling at the television (without fail) every Sunday when the Steelers played, and taking daily walks to the creek with Jeff and the dogs. Over the years, she became a very successful deer hunter and was fortunate enough to share a family hunting trip to South Africa. Mar had an undeniable way of making a house into a home with seasonal decorating, and most of all bringing the Christmas spirit alive each December. Over the last year, her “best days” were spent watching her first grand-baby Della, who equally loved her grandma that was not afraid to bring out her childlike, fun personality during their time together.
While her journey was cut far too short on this earth, she was blessed with a very fulfilling and love-filled life. She will be greeted in heaven by her paternal (Buzzy and Betty Rohan) and maternal (Guy and Helen VanDamia) grandparents, her father Gerald “Jerry” Rohan, and a few four legged furry friends who loved her dearly. She will be remembered always by her remaining family including her husband, kids, and grandkids; her mother Mary Rohan (VanDamia); three sisters: Brenda Mitchell (Scott), Darlene Celline, Melissa Bianchi (Tony); her in-laws: Joe and Roberta Kuzma, Greg Kuzma (Karen), Scott Kuzma; her many nieces/nephews: Nathan and Lucas Mitchell; Josh and Jeremy Celline; Anthony and Matthew Bianchi; Kile, Cheyenne and Montana Kuzma; Tyler and Logan Kuzma; and many extended members of the VanDamia, Rohan, Kuzma and Hinz families.
