Obituary Preview: Olive Perry White, age 105, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at AHC-Humboldt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of the Brownsville Funeral Home, with Rev. Sammy Tillman officiating. Burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at the Brownsville Funeral Home from 12:00 P.M. until the service hour at 2:00 P.M.
Mrs. White was born May 14, 1917, to the late John Turner Perry and Mattie Sarah Joyner Perry in Madison County, TN, near the Providence Community. She was named after her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Olive Dougan Joyner. She was a beautician all her life, starting at the age of 16, except during World War II when she worked at Milan Arsenal. Mrs. White was married to the late Richard Austin White in 1971. She was not blessed with children but had 20 nieces and nephews who love and respect her. She was saved at a Billy Graham crusade in Nashville and was a member of the Brownsville FUMC and Choir for many years. She enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. When asked what her secret to life is, she always said “Drink lots of water, eat lots of vegetables and don’t ever give up!”
She was also preceded in death by four brothers: George Perry, Malcom Perry, John Turner Perry, Carrol Perry; and two sisters: Mabel Parker Booth and Mildred Greene. Serving as pallbearers for the service are Mark Stanley, Parker Benton, Joe Benton, Marty Perry, Jeff Perry and David Perry. The family wishes to personally thank Mrs. Stacy Mikkelson for her loving care and attention.
Memorials may be made to the Donor’s Choice in her loving memory. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Brownsville Funeral Home.

Mrs. Joy was born on December 27, 1935, to the late William Bryant Booth and Lottie Stanley Booth. She was a member of the Cairo Church of Christ in Alamo, TN and was know as the “Candy Lady”. She loved making candy and sour dough bread. She also enjoyed playing Bridge. She was also preceded in death by her first husband of over 28 years: William J. Lee; and a half sister: Marion Warren.
She is survived by her husband of over 33 years: Dwayne Curtis of Jackson, TN; one son: Larry Lee (Diane) of Memphis, TN; three step daughters: Lisa Smith (Larry Scott) of Friendship, TN, Sandra Curtis of Sarasota, FL, Sheri Escobar (Jose) of Midlothian, TX. She leaves a legacy of seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her Bridge partner: Linda Kerr of Jackson, TN.

Mrs. Love was born in Franklin, TN, on July 19, 1968, to the late Judy Gail Burns Farmer and Stepfather: Billy Ray Stutts. She was also preceded in death by her husband: Bobby Love and one brother: Tony Stutts and one sister: Linda Farmer.
She is survived by her son: James Taylor Burns of Lewisburg, TN; two brothers: Steven Stutts of Lewisburg, TN, Bobby Stutts of Spring Hill, TN.

The burial will take place at Zion Methodist Cemetery, 1732 Rudolph Rd, Brownsville, TN.
Gene was born on May 15, 1933, in Haywood County to Henry Cecil McCage and Mary Diggs McCage. He worked as a mechanic. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by two sons, Roy McCage (Barbara) of Brownsville, TN and Mark McCage of Humboldt, TN; two daughters, Debra Dawson (Michael) of Jackson, TN and Lisa McCage of Jackson, TN; four brothers, Harold McCage, Bobby McCage, William McCage and Otha McCage; one sister Faye Anderson; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Marie McCage; his parents, Henry Cecil and Mary McCage; four brothers, Ray McCage, Russell McCage, Harvey McCage, and James Diggs; one grandchild, Keith McCuan; one great-grandchild, Nathan Holcomb; one brother-in-law, Charlie Anderson; one daughter-in-law, Connie McCage.

She loved to travel and toured Europe, Eastern and Western Canada and Many points of interest in the States after retirement. She loved flowers, music, reading and crocheting. She was a member of the Whiteville Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 50 years: Toy Percer Crawford, Sr; and one daughter: Marcia Diane Crawford Walton; four brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by one son: Toy Percer Crawford, Jr. (Betty) of Sequin, TX; one daughter: Nancy Crawford Tucker (Bill) of Mt. Ida, AR; She leaves a legacy of six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: Ronnie O’Neal Buckner was born on April 3, 1950 in Brownsville, Tennessee. He graduated from Haywood High School and furthered his education by obtaining his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Memphis, formerly Memphis State University. Following his education, he began his career for Williams Investments before working for Carty and Company Inc. where he applied his tireless work ethic as a bond broker. He enjoyed a career of excellence, but also had an appetite for sports, which he enjoyed watching and playing in his leisure time to include basketball, tennis, and golf. As a native Tennessean, he enjoyed taking advantage of the wildlife and scenery around him as an avid huntsman and fisherman. In addition, he was a philanthropic man who regularly committed his time and resources to several charities, especially St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.Ronnie passed away on Saturday, June 25th, 2022 at the age of 72. He is proceeded in death by his grandparents John and Minnie Buckner and Buddy and Mattie Rogers, his parents Junior and Evelyn Buckner, his sister Barbara Eubanks, and his brother Rodger Buckner. He is survived by his daughter Beth Buckner, his brothers David and Rickey Buckner, and his sister Rosemary Unger along with his many nieces and nephews. Ronnie is remembered by his family as a smart and determined person who cared deeply for his family.Funeral services will be held in Brownsville, Tennessee. The viewing will be held at Brownsville Funeral Home on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and the funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 11:00 AM also at Brownsville Funeral Home located at 107 South Lafayette Ave., Brownsville, TN 38012. John Randolph Haywood - January 26, 1934 - June 22, 2022

Obituary Preview: John R. Haywood Haywood County native John Randolph Haywood, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on June 22, 2022. Born to the late Robert W. and Hazel F. Haywood on January 26, 1934, “Jack” was one of four children and grew up in Brownsville. He attended Anderson Grammar School and graduated from Haywood High School in 1952 where he played varsity basketball and earned an academic scholarship for college. He then studied engineering at Vanderbilt University and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. Jack also served nine years in the Army National Guard of Tennessee with occupational specialties as aradio mechanic and rifleman between 1952 to 1961. In 1955, he began his career at Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company where he met the love of his life, Peggy Parr Haywood, from Covington, who also worked for Southern Bell. They married on April 23, 1960 at St.Alphonsus Catholic Church in Covington, TN and made their home in Brownsville, TN. Work took them to Memphis for seven years and then to Jackson, TN where they focused oncreating a loving and supportive home for their four children. Fiercely loyal to friends andfamily, they raised their children surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles and a loving churchcommunity. They were blessed by a close group of friends with whom they traveledthroughout the United States, with a bevy of children in tow, on many memorable camping adventures. Visiting Italy, Hawaii and the Caribbean Islands, Jack and Peggy, also traveled overseas with friends on several special occasions. Jack spent his working life as part of the “telephone company” from 1955 to retirement in 1989 and then several years afterward as Project Engineer with RK Weir & Associates. While in the Jackson, TN office of South Central Bell, he served as a Manager in Engineering where he created long-time friends and cherished memories. Jack was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, a non-profit charitable and fraternal organization. He volunteered on many projects, served as chapter president, progressed to state council level and served as council president. Once retired, he remained active in the Pioneers Life MembersClub and continued to serve his community. He actively supported Camp Bluebird, a camp for cancer patients. Jack and Peggy also traveled and spent many happy, week-long trips to Gatlinburg, TN, Florida beachfront locations, and river destinations with an engaging group of Pioneer friends they dearly loved. Music was a large part of Jack’s life. He studied classical guitar while living in Memphis. As a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Jackson, TN, he joined the choir and then served as a church musician, particularly for Saturday night Mass, playing guitar and leading music as cantor/song leader. For many years, Jack was asked and lovingly shared his talent to play and sing in numerous weddings, first communions, funerals, feast days and special events. Jack playing his guitar and singing in his clear, tenor voice was welcomed and remembered. When Jack retired, the couple returned to Covington, TN in 2002 where they enjoyed golfing, gardening, and spending time with extended family and friends. Jack and Peggy were members of The Links Homeowners’ Association in Covington where he continued to share his leadership abilities as a member of the board from 2009-2016 and as President from 2010-2012. Jack was also known for sporting one of the greenest and well-kept lawns at both his Jackson and Covington, TN homes. He enjoyed his golf-course quality yard and spent many happy hours tending to his hobby. When they moved back to Covington, Jack and Peggy returned to thechurch where they were married and were active parishioners of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Jack worked with Peggy as a dedicated member of the church’s “Friends of the Poor” food pantry. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal service order, and he served for numerous years as both a server and Sacristan at daily Mass and on Knights’ Sundays. Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Peggy Parr Haywood, his brother, “Bobby” Robert W. Haywood, his brother, “Seymour” James S. Haywood, his sister, “Betty” Elizabeth Haywood Owen, and a grandson, Luke Paschall. He is survived by three daughters: Leslie Haywood-Moore (Tim) of Paducah, KY, Tracy Williams (Steve) of Pinson, TN; Beth McNeill (Bo) of Mt. Olive, NC; one son: John Haywood, Jr. of Pinson, TN; and two sisters-in-law: Clara Parr and Shirley Roe, both of Covington. He was proud of all eleven grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren along with his nieces and nephews who will treasure their memories of his love and devotion. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022, with the rosary at 6:30 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Visitation will also be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2022 and a funeral mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church. The interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Oakwood Historic Cemetery in Brownsville, TN. Burial services are under the direction of Brownsville-Bells FuneralHome.

Born to the late Egbert Parr and Leona Cooper Parr on November 13, 1939, Peggy was the youngest of six children and grew up in Western Valley. She attended Garland Elementary School and graduated from Byars Hall High School in 1958. She was a stellar guard on the school’s Lady Wildcats basketball team, and she continued to be a basketball fan throughout her life. After graduating high school, she worked for Southern Bell in Covington as a telephone operator where she met the love of her life, John (Jack) Haywood, from Brownsville, who also worked for Southern Bell. They were married on April 23, 1960 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Covington, TN and made their home in Brownsville, TN.Work took them to Memphis for seven years and then to Jackson, TN where they raised their four children, Leslie, Tracy, Beth and John. With a servant heart, Peggy nurtured her family as a devoted wife and mother. She faithfully shared her time at St. Mary’s Catholic School and Church, Jackson, TN as a parent volunteer and as a member of that loving parish community. As her children grew up, Peggy used her organizational and customer service talents for over 17 years at the Old Country Store-Casey Jones Village as a party planner and reservationist where she made long-time friends and cherished memories.When Jack retired, the couple returned to Covington, TN in 2002 where they enjoyed golfing, gardening and spending time with Peggy’s sisters, Shirley and Clara, and extended family and friends. An active parishioner of St. Alphonsus, Peggy was a dedicated member of the church’s “Friends of the Poor” food pantry.She is survived by her husband of 62 years: John (Jack) Haywood of Covington, TN; three daughters: Leslie Haywood-Moore (Tim) of Paducah, KY, Tracy Williams (Steve) of Pinson, TN; Beth McNeill (Bo) of Mt. Olive, NC; one son: John Haywood, Jr. of Pinson, TN; two sisters: Clara Parr and Shirley Roe, both of Covington. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Donald Parr and Wayne Parr; one sister, Catherine Parr; and a grandson, Luke Paschall.
